  1. One of my uncles received an official looking certificate that declared he had won $50,000. He told me about it and I looked it up on the Internet and sure enough it was from a recent group of scammers. I printed out the information and discussed it with him. Then I left it there so he could read it for himself. I know he read it because he he always read everything. My family was alerted after I found out he had sent the scammers some money and started looking for a new car, etc. I tried to stop it but nothing worked until Western Union refused to send the money. Only then did he stop and we never discussed it again. I wasn't so worried about him selling off his house or anything like that but that beautiful certificate was actually kind of awesome. I wanted to keep it to use as a template for my graphic design business. Because he grew up in an era where snail mail was king that piece of paper had believability for him. I can think of several instances where someone had tried to take advantage of him because he was older. All those times his common sense would lead him to ask questions that stopped all of that right in its tracks. Not because he was all that confident but because of experience. He had no checking account, no debit card, two credit cards and he paid his bills in person or by money order on the first of the each and every month. So, sometimes it is not mental deficiency that leads a person to do those things. I felt so badly for the lady because the pain of being that lonely was overwhelming just for me to think about it. There is no telling but she may have been an abused spouse proned to being a doormat for her late husband. We can see that it didn't take much to get her to do the things she did. Since people do not change I think what we saw of her was who she wad. Period.
  2. If they would keep all contestants throughout I think it would be more appealing. The nfl has a large female fan base. It has grown so much it is kind of passe to say women are generally not football fans.
  3. One of the best sauces I've eaten did that exactly. The veggies were roasted with the rib roast and then drained and pureed with nothing else added. Tasted like it had a ton of calories and like it was lot more work!
  4. PeeWee Herman was a throwback of some of the fifties campy stuff we grew up with. I remember thinking how square tv was in those days but when Peewee came along I grew to appreciate it.
  5. I am going to have to watch the finale because it didn't seem to show her weight loss as a concern, imho. I lost 30 pounds in three months. It surprised even me but I was very happy. Two years before I'd quit smoking and, without changing how much I ate, I gained a lot of weight. While I was a smoker, I could eat hot fudge sundaes and hamburgers with fries for dinner and there wouldn't be any weight gain. No sleeping issues and digestive problems. (only once did I lose weight and that was when I stopped drinking sodas and lost a dress size. Now when I want a soda I drink either fruit infused water or Kombucha). Then I started walking every morning, going farther and farther and incorporating inclines. Changed diet so there was less fat, more water, less dessert. No weight loss but feeling a lot better. Shortly afterwards I joined a gym and had to track what I ate. Bam! The intense workout, diet change detoxed my body and the weight just dropped seemingly overnight. Diet was organic which meant no bread unless it was either gluten free or organic. Only healthy oils that are certified organic which includes olive, avocado, coconut oils. I work out everyday and mostly do cardio. Hopefully will do my first 5K in June. So I wrote all this (and probably too much, lol) to show that a rapid weightless is not always because someone did something wrong. The Biggest Loser does not promote the healthiest route to weight loss and Rachel took charge of her own goals. I cringe at some of the things and products the show promotes.
  6. Loved the video. I was ethalfrida at twop and am the same here ...
  7. BizBuzz, so you do not use tahini in your hummus? Just asking because I love hummus and always looking for new ones to try.
  8. I don't know where this question goes but ... does anyone know how those tweets show up on his shows that are recorded? How do they do that?
  9. Since changing my lifestyle that included not smoking, eating organic foods and getting a lot more exercise (used to be a bookworm, lol) I've done a lot of research into nutrition, organics, paleo etc... A few of things I found out that I will share: 1. Canola oil is not a healthy oil. It is from the rapeseed which was created in a lab as in GMO. I have opted for coconut oil, certified organic olive oil, avocado oil and other organic and cold pressed oils like sunflower and sesame. Another great oil to use is Ghee, clarified butter. It can sit on your counter for months without in depletion of quality. The best butter to use is from grass-fed cows. To make Ghee, simply put a pound in a proper sized pot, turn fire to lowest setting and let it melt. Skim off foam and let it continue to cook until only brown scraps remain and butter is clear. Pour into jar and let it sit on counter it sit on counter. Refrigeration is not needed. Same with coconut oil. 2. I love chocolate but the caffeine is a no-no for me because I overdid it earlier in life. However, carob is the finest substitute ever! The only difference is carob is naturally sweet so you have to use less sugar when baking. I think the ratio is to take out two tablespoons of sugar per cup but please Google that. I am not sure right now. And it depends on your particular taste. One cake I spent a lot of time on only to forget this rule was "fixed" by adding strong black coffee (decaf for me) and brushing a lot of it all over the cake. The result was stunning and delicious and super moist. It comes in powder and chips. 3. Organic products have a produce number beginning with 9 and it is usually four digits. Some items, according to trusted sources, are okay to consume that have been produced conventionally like bananas and avocados. Those product number begin with 4 and are usually four digits. 4. If you garden be careful which types of seeds/plants you use. Same with soil nutrients. 5. Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup are horrible for the body. It is better to use sugar and limit consumption. Here is one of my favorite recipes that has been modified to make it vegetarian: Okra, Sausage and Tomatoes Note: You can easily use frozen or vegetables in cans as a substitute. In fact, although there is a difference in flavors and intensity, you will love them both equally. I use organic in both products... 6 medium to large tomatoes 1 package of frozen okra (chopped) 1 green bell pepper 3 cloves peeled garlic 1/2 medium brown onion 1 small can tomato paste 1 package of organic soy sausage of your choice Pam 3 tablespoons olive oil Boiling water Pepper, a little salt or use Slap Ya Mama Louisiana Seasoning or Andy Roo's That Stuff with No Salt Optional: 1 can or package of corn (not cream style)Wash all your ingredients. Use an appropriate sized skillet whether it be cast iron (my favorite) or stainless. Spray with Pam and then put in the three tablespoons of oil. Do not apply heat just yet. Wait until all your veggies are added. Chop your tomatoes and add to the skillet. Chop or slice the garlic, depending on your preference. Chop onion. Slice and then cut bell pepper into preferred sized pieces. Along with okra, add these ingredients to the skillet and turn heat on medium. While waiting, slice sausage into bite sized pieces. Set aside. When the veggies begin to sizzle, start stirring with wooden spoon. Pay close attention to prevent sticking. If you want corn ( a very good extra ingredient to add) put it in now. Add sausage when the onions have softened. Continue stirring until the sausage is browned. Add the tomato paste. Add enough water to a level that is near top of skillet. Add seasoning to taste. It will not be necessary to add too much salt. The tomatoes and sausage are well seasoned and contain enough sodium to get away with no extra salt. Cook until sauce is thick and not runny. Serve this dish over hot rice. (see earlier recipe on Cooking Perfect Rice). How to Cook Perfect Rice: Pour some rice into a bowl. Measuring is not necessary but you can if you need a specific amount. Wash a few times until water is clear. Drain. Put rice into pot. Add 1 inch of water. Add salt to taste or none. Make sure rice is distributed evenly in pot. To measure an inch, place index finger into pot having it barely touching the surface of the rice. You should use the tip of the finger as the marker and not your fingernail. Boil the rice until most of the water has cooked out and only large bubbles are forming. Immediately cover with a proper lid and turn the fire down to the lowest setting. Allow the rice to cook and steam until it is done. Do not stir. It is okay to occasionally check it by raising the top. You can cook rice like this in any sized pot. I've made it in a huge soup pot to serve 30 to 50 people.
  10. Not to take attention off Kass but remember Sandra? She won twice without doing any work at all. But she talked her way into the finals and then won both times. Now that is playing your own game AND without really having much of an alliance with ANYONE, lol.
  11. The real Debra was on a talk show once and she said the family was just like that and she was thought actress Debra did a pretty good job of everything.
  12. Yes, the fight the power episode was the one where Deacon wore the baby holder thing. But the one where they won the $$ was a different one. Although all of them were funny, those two really made us laugh out loud!
  13. I don't understand how they promote health but advise the contestants to eat unhealthy food. Processed meats, even turkey, is loaded with chemicals and salt. Studies show that artificial sweetners cause disruption with insulin... etc. I know it is product placement that drives that so I lost faith in the show a couple years back. Bob and Jillian really need to stop climbing on the participants' backs. I cringe every time They do that. It seems so humiliating. And those off to the side comments are so unnecessary. "We walked into the room and there was Bob." Seriously ...
  14. Does anyone wonder why only Spencer had the piece of paper in his napkin?
  15. Woo made me chuckle when he was talking about getting all Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't think he should have run off with the clue, but I think reading it and then giving it back would have been fair game. I think he is on borrowed time. He is too much of a threat to keep in the game. Love that strategy! It makes more sense and wouldn't have been so in the face!
  16. I love Carrie! She a tough chick while still being girly to a point. My favorite episode is the one where Doug and Deacon were off work because of the strike and they hooked up with Arthur and started betting on the spin and say toy. And then the music "Fight the Power" when they were walking down the street and Arthur's tough guy look. Hilarious! I liked all the episodes except the sad one about the baby...
  17. This is a great thread. I am not vegan but definitely into certified organic. And saving up for a Vitamix.
  18. All4mom, I was just going to point out, what her daughter actually said.
  19. I think Debra was just right for Ray. To me, she is neither shrill harpy nor saint.
  20. When Ray did that dance to Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi ...
