  1. Just waiting for @OperaLover1229, then the lucky Week Three Winner will be announced!
  2. Absolutely spot on description. Coming from northern Illinois, I always stopped in southern Illinois for a dozen on my way to dog shows in St. Louis. Once at a dog show in Indiana, a handler had a box full in his grooming area. I snuck in and stole the entire dozen to take to my set up. We hit the original store and others in NC when I was there to eval several litters of show pups. Try being the one tasked with holding the warm box for the drive back to home base without stuffing a half dozen in your face on the drive. When the Krispy opened here, cars were lined up for miles waiting for their dozen, it was a continuing story on the news. Unfortunately, when all the bookkeeping mess happened and KK Corporate got busted, our store closed. They sell packages of them in Chicago-based Jewel groceries but I've never bought them, although if you nuke one for just five seconds, it comes close to HOT NOW goodness. And yes, sitting and watching the donuts travel the rollers through the ovens and glaze is indeed high entertainment.
  3. Krispy Kreme yes, but the HOT sign has to be on. They are the BEST. Side note: I've been to the original Krispy Kreme, bought two dozen HOT glazed! I was with you with Robert Frost but I picked the wrong poem/line. ETA: Ken's Junior Genius Guide to Greek Mythology was a huge help with THE TITANS category and a few others. Thanks Pandora for not letting HOPE out of the box.
  4. You'll especially like my post there @bankerchick.
  5. Well, there's always someone who stands alone outside the crowd. Today it's me. Here's what I emailed to a friend after the show: "I watched Celebrity Jeopardy at 7 and laughed so hard and so loud. It was funnier than any sitcom or any show EVER anywhere, and I did LOL several times, and I mean LOUD. I didn't know any of the celebrity players and I don't like Mayim Bialik but I tell you, it all came together into the biggest laugh fest of my life. The bar category was given by a former Jeopardy multi-show winner, one who was kind of controversial (you liked him or you did not) during his run, and he got some shade thrown on him that about made me fall on the floor, it was so funny." That episode ranks 10 thumbs up from me, best thing I've seen on tv EVER. And while I might smile at something funny, I NEVER LOL. Until last night.
  6. I was going to watch because of Kevin McKidd's accent but went to check something during the first game and never came back. I at least got to hear Kevin speak in the opening segment so I was good. I was a fan WAY before he was on GA.
  7. That would have been a hoot, although I could see people then believing that Ken really is a heavy drinker and not a tee-totaling Mormon. So I guess it's good the show played it safe, or safer. Some people just can't take a joke. Thanks for all the descriptions of that episode everyone. It's like I really watched it, so I'm good now!
  8. Get out of my brain! That was exactly my thinking about Cairo and Jo-Berg first, then I saved myself. And I knew the Ian Fleming answer even w/o the extra clues. Sometimes I do feel smart. Sometimes.
  9. I'm not really up on the galley/galleon discussion, but didn't Ken also say "galleon" was a correct answer? Berry/Barry!
  10. And I want mine just that big. That photo is life-sized, right? I hope so!
  11. I know. The debate here is about galley vs. galleon.
  12. The pic showed a ship with a bunch of oars, like 10 or more on each side. I concentrated on the oars (and the poor people rowing with them!) and paid no attention to the masts.
  13. I totally forgot about Ken being on Call Me Kat Thursday night, even though I posted in the Media thread about it. I actually was going to watch since I like Ken more than I dislike Mayim. Karma got me back by Mayim being on a Saving Grace rerun later that night, she played the wife of a Hasidic Jew. She wore a total head covering and I wouldn't have recognized her if I hadn't seen her name in the credits.
  14. I didn't have a clue what day it is today until I went to schedule next week's FJ contest and saw today is 1001. Holy cow, @ams1001, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Here is my contribution to this week's fiesta. Because I prefer pie to cake, and it's all about me, right? so here is a confetti birthday PIE to celebrate ams1001's special day. Party on, my fellow dudes!
  15. Week 3 • Sept. 26, 2022 — THREE asterisk * 6. Magazines. A now annual issue of this magazine was inspired by the high-society parties of Caroline Astor, whose ballroom fit about 400 people. * 7. World Airports. Africa’s 2 busiest passenger airports are in these 2 countries; it’s an 8-hour flight between them. * 8. World Rivers. These 2 rivers share the names of countries, end with the same 4 letters & both join up with the Parana River. * * 9. Innovations. Seen by a worldwide audience in 1970, black pentagons were added to these to help viewers follow them better on TV. * 10. Before They Were Authors. While working for British intelligence during World War II, he was codenamed 17F.
  16. He just got his ass kicked on the buzzer by both contestants. Happens to the best of 'em. I'd love to get Brad Pitt. I've never heard of them as anything but roll ups so was stumped on this clue.
  17. Thanks @ams1001 for explaining Ryan Fenster so I don't have to. He's The Puppy Killer in my lexicon. David deserves Lilly's Two Thumbs Up Best Dressed Contestant EVER for his gorgeous tie today. So handsome. And I guess now I wave goodbye to you. It was fun watching you.
  18. I had to go to Davenport, Iowa this morning and drove past a cemetery with a big BIX BIEDERBECKE sign, yes, it's his last resting place. Made me think of you guys.
  19. My tv schedule shows tonight is the season 3 premiere of Call Me Kat, the one where Mayim on a plane (like Snakes on a Plane!) sits next to Ken Jennings. 8:30 Central, Fox.
  20. Hello, born and raised Episcopalian here. We call ourselves Catholic Light since we celebrate much of the same hoopla as Catholics such as Stations of the Cross, communion (with wine) and so forth, and Catholics who were kicked out of that church when they got divorced became members and felt comfortable and welcome with us. Absolutely no prejudice and hate going on in that church. And shame on people/posters who think otherwise. Those people need to study up before they speak and make stupid judgements. I still love air-balloon David. Long may he wave.
  21. Hello folks. Everyone did super great this week. Here are the score totals to see how you fit into the bigger scheme of things: 0 = 3 1 = 3 2 = 4 3 = 10 4 = 5 5 = 3 Because this is Thursday, I decree it ShapeShifter Day, the official Winner of Week 2. Congrats!
  22. I said "Oh, it's that guy, you know ..." for Mr. Gould and said Marlena Dietrich for Mae West so I might be older than you.
  23. My friend wrote this in part II of her book about her father who played with Bix and was best friends with him outside of band gigs. She was a little girl when she remembered this in reference to her father: "I knew he had an acquaintance with a famous jazz great by the name of “Bick Spiderback,” because I’d heard the name in many conversations, but had no idea who he was or why he was so great. It took me years to find out they were talking about Bix Beiderbecke!" My mom, on the other hand, was of the Bix era and when I would mention him she discounted him with a disgusted hand wave: "He was nothing but a big drunk." It took me a long time working with my friend on her book before I could accept he really was a jazz great, one of the best ever. And well, yeah, he was a drunk too. Anyone else catch Ken's Sam and Dave reference in Wednesday's show? This made me laugh so hard because I LOVE those air balloon floppy guys. In fact, that's what I see now when I see David so I hope he lasts a long time. Brightens my day. Wish I had one for my back yard.
  24. I am ass-u-ming you missed Bix Beiderbecke. The Bix Fest is a HUGE summer festival here, jazz musicians come from all over to play, and the Bix Road Race draws world-class/olympic runners. Interesting side note, my best friend is writing a book about her father, a journalist, photographer and muscian who was best friends with Bix and played with his band as well as hung out with him outside of playing music. I'm editing the book for her so this was an ultra-exciting TS for me. If you did get Bix, you deserve a personal coronet solo of Singin The Blues. And kudos from me!
