  1. Don't tell anyone but the same thing happened to me. Oops.
  2. Everyone here should have gotten the Carpathia TS given our frequent discussions of those ocean liners.
  3. To give everyone a good laugh, I thought Checkers couldn't be correct, Nixon picking him up by his ears didn't make him famous and he caught all kinds of flak for that. Yes people, I got Nixon mixed up with LBJ. And I knew that Checkers speech. I post these things to make y'all feel better that you aren't me.
  4. So far there are four of us at the Big Fat Zero table so you are welcome to share our bench. But you have been in disguise these last few days, I no longer recognize you @Welshman in Ca! So it will be easy for you to sneak in and out without anyone knowing. @30 Helens, I'm all in with your Hay and Straw Pasta. Being Swedish, I've never heard of that dish but it contains everything I love. So yes, you and your Paglia e Fieno are sitting right next to me, I insist. My horse will also enjoy knowing she'll be eating Paglia e Fieno for dinner tonight. Might make her extra highfalutin, and that's okay! @Grundoon59, a cruise has been my dream vacation for more years than I can count. Being on a big ship in the ocean with no chores, nothing to do but lounge on the deck and eat, then sleep when I feel like it ... that's heaven! So far the closest I've come is riding a casino paddlewheeler between the locks on the Mississippi for a couple hours. Have a great time and tell us about it when you get back. Bon voyage, my friend!
  5. I'll save you a seat next to me @30 Helens. But you need to explain the Hay and Straw Pasta. Your photo looks nothing like the hay and straw in my barn! And thanks @Driad for making me google baba ganoush!
  6. @shapeshifter, I love clementines and it will be easy to share since I am sitting next to you at the Big Fat Zero table. I am bringing the most delicious huge black grapes, they are 1-1/4 long and while not QUITE round, they will be a good balance to the citrus theme. I confidently yelled out MENDEL'S PEAS! before Ken was done reading that FJ clue about the apple tree. I was so proud of myself for being so smart. That was a great feeling ... for about two minutes.
  7. @M. Darcy, I'm missing your Week 5 score. If you posted, would you repost for me please? And thank you. @OperaLover1229, I'm missing scores for your weeks 3 and 4. Help? And thanks!
  8. Thank goodness posters here are keeping track of me and helping me do better. This week's clues have been corrected and yes, asterisk today. THANKS @Driad!
  9. WEEK 6 • Oct. 17, 2022 — TWO asterisk 21. Famous Animals. In September 1964 the New York Times announced the passing of this pet, a gift, “used as a symbol of honesty in 1952.” * 22. Landmarks of Science. Clones of an original one of these grow outside the math faculty at Cambridge University & in the President’s garden at M.I.T. * 23. American History. Ben Franklin, John Adams & John Jay succeeded as a trio in this city, though Adams wrote of fearing the other 2 would gang up on him. 24. International Borders. 2 of the 3 countries that share land borders with Russia & China. * 25. 19th Century Literary Characters. This character from an 1859 novel symbolizes the fates, who in mythology spin the web of life, measure it & cut it off. *
  10. Dropping in to say I've been gone so much the past two weeks, I'm way behind on keeping up with the contest. Planning on doing that now, before I'm gone again tomorrow. And yes, the contest takes no breaks regardless of what's on the daily Jeopardy, tournament or regular play, we count all of them thar FJs in this contest. I like to be a nice guy but sorry @shapeshifter, no half points. Although half a point would be better than half a brain. Or would it? Like an old friend used to say, half a loaf is better than no rest at all. ETA: That picture of Current Champion Cris on TJF home page ... he looks an awful lot like Misha Collins. YOWZA!
  11. I surprised myself by liking this episode. It kept my attention through the entire hour, which is saying something. I have grown to seriously dislike Jenny though. Girl, get some shoes suitable for running and sneaking up on people. You know, like what REAL COPS wear. I'm liking Cormac and Cassie. I'm all for that to progress onward. Things I didn't like ... why in EVERY show where the bad guy has a good-guy hostage and the good cop confronts bad guy, both holding guns, the bad guy ALWAYS says "Drop your gun or I'll shoot your buddy." And the good guy ALWAYS drops his/her gun. Why not reply, "You put down your gun and give up. You'll get maybe a few months in jail, and that's all. But you shoot him and, when he drops, I shoot you. I either kill you or not, but if not, you are getting life (or death penalty depending on state) for killing that hostage. YOU decide which you want. Freedom or death. Make your choice." I also get a big kick out of bad guys always observing safety first when escaping on a motorcycle, like gotta obey the law while making off with this bank-heist money, gotta put on my helmet. And Jensen chose safety first too in his pursuit. I know, I know, the helmets are to disguise the stunt riders who take the real actors' places. But still ... so hokey. Jenny plus Jensen gets a big NO from me. And yes, LOL at Cassie out there in the pitch dark searching for some carving on some rando tree. I would have taken Cormac with me to show me where the heart is. (So to speak.)
  12. I second your post @PBnJay 100 percent. Poor antenna-tv person here too. But I kick butt in all the animal and farming categories so back at you, premium cable viewers! Plus I'm fine with everyone getting a second chance, whether they know what I do or not. I think this tournament is fun, I'm enjoying it.
  13. Week 5 • Oct. 10, 2022 — ONE asterisk which was also a C* 16. Brand Names. A neighbor’s charcoal drawing of Ann Turner Cook at age 4 or 5 months won a 1928 contest to appear in ads for this brand. 17. Famous Ships. Its wreck was discovered in 1989, 48 years after it had been sunk & 91 years after the man it was named for had died. 18. 20th Century Leaders. In a Sept. 3, 1939, speech, he said, “Everything that I have worked for…has crashed into ruins.” 19. Documentaries. In this 1970 film, Max Yasgur says, “I’m a farmer…I don’t know how to speak to 20 people…let alone a crowd like this.” *C* 20. Authors. Featuring a statue of a man escaping his grave, his tomb in Amiens contrasts with the title of his 1864 adventure novel. *C ETA: Contest will continue as usual through the tournaments. FYI! I'm giving credit for Gerbers. So 2/5 for you, my friend.
  14. Thanks @Dowel Jones. You will make this show much more interesting. Looking forward to your posts.
  15. Me too! that's why I said Herbert Hoover with great confidence. That's so funny because I saw 1939 and thought, "Oh, 1939, the start of the Depression!" Feel free to point fingers and laugh, because I did.
  16. As has been posted here many times, go with your first thought for FJ, which was Chamberlain for me. Then, of course, I switched to Hoover. Who knows who I would have ended up with if there were more time to think of more people.
  17. I've been with this show since the pilot, but half way through this episode I switched stations during the commercial and did not come back. I might try it again next week, but really, it's just too much ... what everyone above said.
  18. Ack! Way to make it more complex! Ha ha, just kidding. Let's see how this week goes for Cris, then this week I'll start the C* like we did for the M* for Matt Amodio. And since you did the hard part of getting the first three C*s ... well, I don't know, except to say thanks! I am hoping Cris stays around a long time, I am enjoying his play and his brilliant brain/smarts. I would go back and list the C* clues here if we go with that, so everyone can catch up if desired. Thanks Driad!
  19. The interview segment: First interview/Mayim: Awesome! Second interview/Mayim: Awesome! Third interview: I lost interest. I would be all for an Ike vs. Andy final. Too bad it's not going to happen.
  20. I say if you haven't seen the day's episode and don't want to take the chance of being spoiled, stay away. No rules here about when to post and no hand slapping is allowed. If the ep has aired in your area, feel free to enter and post. If it has not, enter at your own risk. This is a No Finger Pointing zone! I think the earliest episode for posters here is about 3:30 p.m. CT. It's on at 4:30 p.m. CT in my market, but I get the FJ from TJF around 1 p.m. CT and I don't care about "regular" clue spoilers so I pop in and out through the day. It seems most action here takes place on Friday and over the weekend when players post their scores. I love hearing how everyone did ... or didn't!
  21. Thanks @shapeshifter. I had forgotten I was so strict in previous contests! I say all discussions of all FJ clues and all discussions of regular Jeopardy and everything not even related to FJ or Jeopardy are welcome here. If someone hasn't seen that day's episode, stay away. Like me ... I only got home a bit ago after being gone all day and went to TJF to get today's FJ before I entered any of the J threads. As for you @EtheltoTillie, I keep weekly scores for this FJ contest that will run the entire season. Report your week's FJ correct answers (and a FJ TS means you get an asterisk, highly desirable!) and I record them, then award a winner each week. Winner is based on whatever whim I'm feeling at the time. Final totals are posted at the end of the season, when "real" winners are drawn by number from my magic cottage cheese tub, and those lucky players will receive real actual tangible prizes in the mail, courtesy of the Contest Host. High totals, low totals, doesn't matter. Winners are based on the luck of the draw. But bragging rights are FREE! If you wish to play, I post the week's FJ clues at the end of each week. We are four weeks in so far, so if you give me your totals for weeks 1-4, I'll add you to the Master List of Players. Bringing cyberfood for our weekly get-together meals is optional. But fun!
  22. Did anyone else catch Dan's answer Friday of "Who is Smokey The Bear?" and Ken's response, "Yes, Smokey Bear." It reminded me of several discussions here on just that topic.
  23. Not if I get to it first, so I will be polite and stand at the end of the line. I've never heard of Tuvalu but it sounded like a place McHale's Navy would have visited. So I looked it up and indeed, it's full of WWII sites and is near the Solomons and New Caledonia. I also found out it is in critical danger of disappearing due to rising ocean levels. Its highest point is just 4.6 meters above sea level. It's expected to no longer exist by the end of this century. So very sad. Presently, it's the fourth smallest country in the world.
  24. I'm loving Cris and got a stressed a few days ago when it looked like the fellow on the end was going to top him. I really don't like watching a fav if I don't know the outcome, so thank you TFJ.
