  1. OMGosh, that was my second choice! Hello, sis!
  2. I have to comment on Katy's interview story Thursday, that she has a painting done by a vulture. I about fell out of my chair at that story, I was so stunned. I have turkey vultures here, I've been watching them all year. They like to roost on the top of my corn crib, which is VERY high, and the roof of my kennel building. At one time there were six of them. Now there are two every once in a while, but a solitary one has been spending the night on top of my corn crib about every other night. I like to watch him when I am feeding the horse and he is silhouetted against the setting sun. Big body with a peanut head on a stick neck! I was kidding with a friend that the vulture is my spirit animal. I notice them when I am driving and one sails overhead, miles from home so it's not "my" vulture. Then two nights ago this happened. My horse comes up to the backyard fence and puts her head over to eat her grain as I stand inside the yard and hold the grain tub for the half hour it takes for her to eat. That early evening, the lone vulture sailed clear across my property without flapping once. He circled back and made a smaller circle, then he lined up directly behind my horse and sailed just a few feet high, in a straight line, directly over the horse and me. I tiled my head and leaned back to follow him as he went over. As soon as he cleared us, he circled around and flew up to the top of the corn crib. I waved at him as he went by. I told my friend about it and said he's either my spirit animal or a harbinger of my impending death. She said I should put out some paper and paints in the backyard to see if he would land and paint up a canvas. I said we could get rich, vulture and me, selling his paintings. Still, I would LOVE to have painting done by a vulture, for oh so many reasons. ETA: I thought maybe the vulture was checking out the horse's dinner, but my friend said, "Don't they eat carrion and rotten meat?" which reminded me maybe it was time for me to take a bath. True story!
  3. Hey, Happy Thanksgiving our friend from the Great White North. I'm bringing a medley of roasted vegetables to add to your feast, they are a favorite of mine, and the house warms up nicely when they are roasting in the oven. That's a win-win. I got a seat at the T41 this week. I could not parse Friday's FJ so thought of a country totally surrounded by water. Feel free to laugh and point at my answer of Greenland.
  4. Week 4 • Oct. 3, 2022 — ONE asterisk 11. 20th Century Poem Endings. These 5 words that end a poem are also a proverb; one citation across the centuries includes a reminder not to make the wall too high. * 12. Asian Country Names. Like the T-U-V in Tuvalu, this landlocked country has 3 consecutive letters in its English name in alphabetic sequence. * 13. Travel. The 1948 edition of this publication said, “There will be a day…in the near future when this guide will not have to be published.” 14. Nobel Peace Prize Winners. He served as Bishop of Lesotho from 1976 to 1978. Desmond Tutu 15. Countries of the World. It has the most water area of any country, nearly 350,000 square miles, about 9% of its total area.
  5. I watched because of Max, I like him on SEAL Team. I didn't get to see past the part when Max saves the guy by putting him into his fire-shield bag so thanks guys for posting what I missed. Side note: When I was a magazine journalist, I did a story on a company in southern Indiana that makes those fire bags, it was a side part of their tent-making business and a government contract. Theirs were silver reflective material, like space bags. The ones on this show looked like they would burn up. Two things that got me. NO ONE would mistake an all-white goat for a bear. What, they couldn't find a black or brown goat? Plus goats are herd animals, they don't wander off to graze independently. Those brush-browsing goats come in herds of multiple animals, not one single goat. The other thing that bothered me was Body never put on his helmet, or waited as long as he could so we could see his full face. I noticed he was one of the show's creators so yeah, give the star and show owner all the "face time" he can get!
  6. Thanks for thinking of me @Mindthinkr, I will do my best. Hi @SunnyBeBe, I just "met" you today on the Alaska Daily thread! Your niece's Shih Tzu is adorable and lucky you being able to share him. I've been involved with show dogs for more years than I care to count (more than 40 ... YIKES!). I've bred more than 100 AKC champions and have shown dogs professionally (including Shih Tzus!) and have worked for many professional handlers, showing dogs all around the United States. All those dogs had to eat, and we "dog people" love discussing dog food. The first thing to know about dog food is that it's for dogs, not for people. So many of the newer foods, "gourmet" and "boutique" brands, are aimed at the owners, making them feel they are not good people if they don't feed THEIR food. The bottom line, so to speak, is what the dog's stools look like. You want to feed a food that produces a very small, solid, dark stool. If a dog is pooping out a big, huge mushy pile, the food is crummy, which is why he's pooping most of it out. You should be able to pick up a Shih Tzu stool easily with one hand ... safely inside a plastic bag of course! And it should be quite small, dark and solid. I tend to like the chicken and rice, and lamb and rice foods, for my younger show dogs, although I also feed beef and corn kibble to my older retired dogs. (Note that grain-free foods are being linked to heart problems in dogs, avoid them!) I like a higher protein for active dogs, and even for my older dogs. Dogs on the show circuit I worked with professional handlers, most were fed Purina. Purina Pro Plan really is of the highest caliber, I've been to the Purina kennels outside of St. Louis, they are top notch in knowing nutrition. I also like Purina One. My dogs get kibble with warm water for their meals, and everyone chows down. If I have a dog that needs some encouragement to eat, I mix in a tablespoon of canned food. I really like Pedigree canned. (I also fed Pedigree kibble for many years.) Remember, dog food is for dogs, not people, to eat, and a good quality food from a respected manufacturer contains what a dog needs to grow and be healthy. Hopefully, your pup does not have allergies or sensitive skin or tummy. Those problems require a specialized food. This is just a Cliff Notes answer. Every show-dog person will tell you they feed something different. This is just what has worked for me and my dogs through the decades. I get the creeps when I see Rachel Ray dog food (hate it!), and for personal reasons I hate Blue Buffalo. I also don't like the foods that make you feel like you are feeding a wilderness wolf. Please, we are talking companion dog here, not Cujo. Feel free to message me if you like. I'm here most every day. And oh, this morning I stopped at the feed store and bought 100 pounds of dog food and 100 pounds of horse food. You could get by with a five-pound bag for your darling pup! And if it makes you feel better, mix in a bit of canned with that kibble. It can make all the difference!
  7. I am hoping that as well. I first became aware of this some years ago, happening to indigenous women and girls in the tribal nations of the southwestern United States. And, of course, all tribal nations. So I'm wanting this show to put some real truth and a big spotlight on the problem. That's my hope anyway, and the big reason why the pilot pulled me in.
  8. I am 100-percent all in on this show. Best pilot in a long time, realistic, well written and acted. Plus it entails my interests as a journalist, I've worked for and with newspaper reporters my whole life, and native Americans are a strong interest of mine. I'm especially sensitive to all of their ongoing ... let's say abuse ... by "the system." Can't wait for next week. Other shows I watch, like Big Sky, are so full of bogus holes, it's almost hate watching. This show, amazingly, appears it is going to be a good, solid drama of the highest class. Yeay!
  9. Yes, they've had a couple quark clues/answers recently and if I remember correctly, they have all been TSs. Maybe one day they will ask for the name of the person who runs the bar on Star Trek DS9. Score!
  10. Fenrir is a Savannah cat, a crossbreed of a domestic cat with an African Serval. It's a recognized breed by the ITCA. Here's a bit of info from Purina. Savannah cat Fenrir's owner is a doctor who had his house burn down while he was trying to save the lives of his cats. He lost nearly all of them in this tragic event, and nearly died himself. Then his marriage broke up. He obtained another cat eventually, and that one plus more he credits with saving his life as he suffered from extreme depression after the brutal fire and aftermath. Fenrir and other of his cats are therapy animals in his clinic. They go from room to room and eventually end up asleep in a chair in one room or another. Except Fenrir never missed lunch, he always wakes up for that. His is a fantastic story, and good on Dr. William John Powers of Farmington Hills, Michigan for sharing his home with Fenrir and the other cats. Cat power!
  11. LOL! No comment. I loved Lost. It came on Wednesday nights when I had dog-training classes so I missed some. But Desmond is on Big Sky right now, and Hurley was a regular on the last four seasons of the Hawaii Five-O reboot. You know, in case any of those characters show upon Jeopardy. Oh, Desmond was also a bad guy on one H5O episode and Star Trek's Sulu, George Takei, shows up on a few episodes.
  12. Guinness came out with its 2023 World's Record Holders Friday, Sept. 30. Behold, the world's tallest living cat, Fenrir, who tops out at 18.83 inches. Fenrir lives in Michigan and shares a house with Altair, the cat with the world's longest tail.
  13. Especially watchers of Celebrity Jeopardy. I see "mists." Not even close.
  14. I did a double, no, make that a triple take when this clue was revealed: "If you attend JDMS in the agricultural equipment-making town of Moline, Illinois, that's short for this middle school." Moline is my hometown, born and raised, and lived there 25 years until I was able to get my own house in a nearby town. Back when though, it was John Deere Junior High, on the west side of town. I went to Coolidge Junior High, in the center of Moline. The third junior high was Wilson, on the east side. We all met in the middle four years later, at Moline High. I looked and now they are middle schools. Eh, progress.
  15. Three cheers and three toots of a unicorn's horn for @ProudMary, winner of Week 3. Old-timey players know I like patterns, and ProudMary was the only one who created a countdown pattern over the three weeks of this contest. For this, she deserves recognition of the highest measure. CONGRATS ProudMary!
  16. As soon as that answer was revealed, I went, oh, DUH. Green Book was a really good 2018 movie with Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. I should have easily known that answer. *V8 head slap*
  17. To clarify, I'd known Kory since he was a junior handler. His mom bought a show dog from me, and when he started handling professionally, I traveled with him and helped him show dogs. I went to his wedding. One of his clients bought the Krispys and Kory didn't want them as he told me when I passed through his grooming area earlier and noticed the box. It was much later when I snuck back and stole them, still untouched because Kory didn't eat doughnuts. That's the whole story, not very exciting but I'm also not the horrible monster some posters think I am. Apologies will be accepted.
  18. I am not one to think some players look like famous people, until today's game. When Sean came on my screen, I shouted out "Ned Flanders!"
  19. Five seconds in the micro and your life will be changed.
  20. Austin posted on Twitter that he was getting some shade on this episode and he was loving it, and he loved being a category. Good time was had by all involved, including Austin. But yeah, that first clue was weird but I'm glad it was -- it made for some hilarious follow-up comments.
  21. His open-mouthed surprise was a highlight of this episode for me. He's just the best host ever.
  22. You can borrow mine, it's on the back porch. Oh, but no it's not for a HOT NOW Krispy!
  23. Iliza Shlesinger is on Kimmel tonight, all you Iliza Shlesinger fans!
