  1. WEEK 33 • April 26, 2021 — NO asterisk 161. City Origin Stories. The mythical founder Byzas consulted the Oracle of Delphi before establishing what’s now known as this city. 162. U.S. National Parks. This subtropical region is a biosphere reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site &, as of 1947, a National Park. 163. Hollywood Legends. This director was quoted as saying, “I believe I can take any 60 pages of the Bible and make a great picture.” 164. Odd Words. A homophone of a letter in the alphabet, this 5-letter word sounds the same if you remove its last 4 vowels. 165. Books & Authors. In books by him, the Kingdom of Noland, ruled by an orphan named Bud, borders a country called Ix, where Queen Zixi reigns.
  2. I'm a quick keys person in the software I use constantly, Photoshop and QuarkXPress. When I was hired at the magazine, I took over teaching everyone in that Mac-based wing. I remember helping one of the editors with her layout. I told her to go ahead and print that page, and she moused up to Menu, File, then scrolled down to Print. I clued her that those symbols on the right side of the command were the quick keys and all she had to do was press Option P for print. Everyone was all amazed at my brilliance! Heh. Cheap thrills. The only problem with using the HOME and END keys are, I have to either take my right hand off the mouse or use my left one that's propping up my head, elbow on the table. I could really use an Alien third arm/hand there in my middle.
  3. I owe @Clanstarling a huge THANK YOU for pointing out the END and HOME keys on an extended keyboard. Now that they are dusted off and I can read them, I am teaching myself to use them as a habit now instead of scrolling. They even work in my DTP software (QuarkXPress), which amazes me. I can be down 15 pages and HOME takes me instantly to page one. Plus I'm using them on browser windows too, like this. Time saver, and I'm all for saving time. Goes to show, even really old dogs can learn a new trick once in a while..
  4. I hear ya. I only got in A B C D ... before I said eh, let's see what's in the fridge to eat.
  5. Friday's FJ was an example of it's-so-EIYKI for me. I grew up looking at, and reading as I got older, my mom's Baum books. I was fascinated by the wonderful illustrations by John R. Neill and W.W. Denslow. No doubt that helped fuel my future, with a college major in decorative illustration and career as a children's book illustrator. The names listed in the clue I didn't recognize, but they were so L. Frank Baum-esque, the answer could have been no other. Those books are now on my bookshelf, although they are timeworn and tired. As am I.
  6. I just gave you one so you can check it out. You're welcome.
  7. Or Hubert Humphrey Or, that man "who should have been president, Hubert Horatio Hornblower" --Jimmy Carter, 1980. "All right Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close up." --saber5055, 2021.
  8. Hey, I told you guys he wanted the J hosting gig full time! While he probably wouldn't be making Trebek's $10M annual salary, after being paid almost $70M/year with the Packers, what's money.
  9. Tell that to the Three Percenters. You can find them via a Google search, something Jeopardy watchers who like to learn things should do. You'll find photos of how they can recognize each other!
  10. Hopefully you stayed long enough to see this week's cereal eating.
  11. Several years ago there was a grooming show on Animal Planet, but it was regular grooming so the same but different if you know what I mean. Anyway, a good friend of mine, a professional and competition groomer, was on it. I learned a lot from her about how some of these reality shows are done. 'Nuf said!
  12. @Katy M, I suggest you look at the Vice link @dcalleyposted in the quote above. Scroll down to the photo of the Three Percenters, then compare that hand signal to Kelly's. If you have doubts after that, then abandon all hope ye who enter here.
  13. At least not on a reality teevee show! LOL!
  14. How many people have an empty freezer going full blast cold with a paddock attached. i can barely squeeze in a tub of ice cream in my freezer much less a full-grown dead body. The body-in-a-freezer is used on every tv show ever and I think that every time. I thought the dead freezer body was the sister and Ronald stashed her there (and put on the padlock). Didn't even think about the missing father of Ronald's girlfriend's kid. I wondered how all the blood could go flying when Ronald started slashing up Sis given she was wrapped up pretty snug in a blanket. And what does one use to get soaked-in blood out of a tan couch so easily. Jenny grabbed the police office worker and they jumped out of the way as the truck hit whatever building they were in, so they are totally okay. But yeah, cool the truck went straight through and kept going. Not sure if that was Ronald in his new ride or one of the ranch cowboys. The doll riding shotgun with Ronald was gold, gold I tell you. The ranch sister needs to put all she knows in some bank vault or safe somewhere for safe keeping, and let the bros know she did that because I can't think of any reason why she's not dead already. Kicking brother in the crotch doesn't stand up to being hit in the head full force with a shovel. I completely tuned out when the marshal guy was telling his sob story. I have no idea if it relates to or will relate to any story on this show. When taking the selfie and Ronald said the middle person dies first, I right away would have made him take the center spot for that pic. I read all the posts above but have never heard of the actors everyone is talking about and don't know what characters they are playing on the show. Some people don't have all those streaming services, just meager antenna teevee. I actually thought this was a pretty good ep.
  15. For the assistant-grooming, I thought the mom and son was far and away the best groom of all of them. That dog came out looking lovely. Obviously, having a sob story is what is expected of every reality competition show these days. They get contestants an extra week on The Bachelor. Here, not so much. Except it did work tonight. Just not for the boyfriend team. I did not like the groom on the dog of the two guys. Blond/ginger guy is a self-proclaimed Best EVAH so geesh man, maybe you shoulda given your boyfriend/husband a bit more constructive help. I about had a heart attack seeing what was being done to that Afghan, not only clipping it but leaving HUGE gross clipper marks all over so it looked like a bad sheep-shearing job. Wow, if that were my dog I'd make the show pay for a real groomer to fix that mess. The Airedale was another poor groom, the dog was already in a pet pattern so all that person had to do was follow that and not use any skill whatsoever. Then throw in a sob story on top of it. The end groom was HORRIBLE and absolutely DID NOT deserve to win immunity. I'm a terrier person and that face could have been done in a lovely manner by blowing out and straight brushing the eyebrows and beard to make the dog actually resemble an Airedale. Plus the beard pattern was in absolutely the wrong place for any terrier, much less the King of Terriers. I guess the sob story won that challenge because they made that dog look like crap. Ruined a dog that could have been made to look like a real terrier, at least in expression/face, the most important part of a dog since the face is the first thing you see when you open your eyes in the morning. The Disney challenge was fun. I really liked the Bug's Life purple face. The Hercules dog got an "Eh" from me. The Brave dog's face was fabulous. I loved it. The Lilo dog was pretty cool but not my winner. I didn't know about hidden Mickey heads, even when I went to Disneyland/World, never heard about that. So it was good the groomer explained it so it got her extra points. The flowers were also good, well done. The Little Mermaid ... eh, just okay. I laughed that the Frozen groomer had a blue right hand. I loved the big braid down the one side. Wish that dog could have been shown more. I actually forgot who won. I wish they would show the winning dog again, or have the dogs come out with the groomers when the decision is made. I was okay with the I'm The Best Big Attitude dude went home though. I'm liking the mom and son team best. No sob stories, just good grooming.
  16. I watch after all these seasons because of the great posters here. Makes a dreck show worth suffering through.
  17. Next full moon, May 26, bigger and brighter than last night's Pink Moon. For those who like launches, this Twitter account belonging to Wapo's Christian Davenport has some great photos of the Falcon 9 launch.
  18. Finally, an episode I watched all the way through without multi-tasking during, even with no laundry to fold. I liked this one and could actually follow it, odd as that may seem, unlike all previous episodes that had me thinking WTH was THAT. It only took eight hours wasted to find an interesting episode. Thanks show writers.
  19. Is there such a thing as vanilla rocky road ice cream?
  20. Hey @Moose135, do you know about the Kelby Photo Walk, or have you been on one? I've been on several and finally won the last one I was on. The shot was a chance one, right place at the right time. A woman and her daughter were walking on the dock when all of a sudden they did this and I got the shot. ETA: Photo is looking upstream on the Mississippi.
  21. Thanks @Moose135. Spectacular photo, but I expected no less from you. Moose, what camera gear/lens/settings do you use for these night shots? I'm was a film Pentax person but now have several Nikons, just to be different from everyone else who has Canon. My first boyfriend was a government photographer, plus shot for the local newspaper. He had Nikon and made fun of my "toy Pentax" cameras. I'm pretty sure that's why I went Nikon during the switch to digital. And yeah, that old boyfriend is still around! Just FYI @Prevailing Wind, in June we will see the Strawberry Moon. Let us know how your weather person describes that one.
  22. Harsh toward viewers like me who kept thinking "That has more than three consonants" when every answer was given. So no, I did not get SPRuce ... it has FOUR consonants. As always, it pays to know exactly what the category is and its phrasing. Doesn't mean I always do, and obviously some players don't either, which allows them to buzz in with answers to be made fun of here. There hasn't been a band of gypsys traveling through here in their horse-drawn caravans for decades. Not since Larry Talbot went to get his fortune told.
  23. Yet here you are, eight seasons later!
