  1. I joined late and didn't catch what the challenge was -- they were already making the clothes. I happened to tune in when they were showing Katie's dress and my reaction was why is she creating a circus clown outfit -- what is the challenge? That was ridiculous. And even after I knew what the challenge was, when I saw the shoes designed to go with her outfit, they looked like circus clown shoes. I truly do not understand how anything she did was FAS-SHUN enough to get on this show. All in all, this is a pretty underwhelming season. There's not a lot of originality or creativity. For the flower challenge, as an example, I can think of several other designers from previous seasons (Christian first among them) who would have not only created a beautiful fabric but then styled the outfit to resemble the flower -- like a lily with a tapered piece coming off the shoulder or from behind her head or something so that not only the fabric was floral but the outfit design itself reflected elements of the flowers. No seasons recently have held a candle to previous seasons for the avant garde challenge and I have to say my expectations for next week are low. I'm probably out after next week. And this whole designers being matchy-matchy with their designs is just stupid. it seems like every week this season the judges reference what the designers are wearing as better than what they present. Most designers who come out after their runway shows are typically wearing black and white or some other neutral color (the Betsey Johnsons of the world excluded). Stop worrying so much about matching your model and focus on the design that's supposed to win you this contest! I've always felt like top Chef, PR, and the like were different from other reality shows because they require actual skill and talent. I will never not love Christian but I feel like this season of PR especially has devolved into just another reality show. Sad. On a more positive note, Elaine is hitting it out of the park as a judge. She was amazing last night -- I don't know if it is intentional or not, but she is emerging as the lead judge, and I am loving it!
  2. One element I thought was very well-done last night was how they showed that, even though she was the cause of the drama, Linda was still essentially on the outside and dimissed as soon as she was no longer useful. Her desperate quest to be seen as SOMEONE triggered all of this. Yet, as soon as they had Monica in the room, it was, okay, thanks, there's the door. You are no longer a factor here. Buh-Bye. Same with the Jones lawyers who came to her house late that evening -- she was all about, "oh look at all these things that show you how important I am" and they were just all about -- what gifts did Clinton give to Monica, what was the book title. And what I thought was the most well-done aspect of it all was Linda's hubris in a single comment (which we don't know for sure she said but does sum up this character so well): "its only a matter of time before the President knows what I've done," as though there's some twisted sense of pride in that -- that its about her and that the president will finally know that LINDA TRIPP is SOMEBODY. I found her "I am you" press conference online. Man, she was a piece of work. "Imagine how you'd feel if . . . " yeah, Linda, really? Talk about victim mentality! She made it seem like it was all about her. . . "imagine how you'd feel if THIS happened to YOU." "What I did was never politically motivated." She makes it sound like she was just minding her own business and all of these things just fell in front of her. https://www.c-span.org/video/?109489-1/presidential-investigation The reporter at the very end is a hero. He knew she was full of shit.
  3. True, but at least she knew someone on her side was coming -- that had to be some mental relief for her. I'm sure Monica wanted her there as soon as possible, but rich white ladies gonna rich white lady, even when it involves the Feds.
  4. Pretty much all I can say is wow. Even just a tv re-telling of what happened that day was surreal. The way those scumbag agents backtracked -- no, she wasn't detained; no we never told her she couldn't call her lawyer, etc. . . disgusting doesn't even begin to describe it. I have to say . . . I kind of love that her mother made them all wait because she had to take the train rather than fly. They deserved every second of that wait. For someone so "young and naive," she managed to hold her own that day. I'm sure she didn't see it that way, and it wasn't intentional, but she really did. From the interviews I've read and her HBO doc, this seems to be a pretty good reenactment of what happened that day. Here's a fact-check on the episode: https://slate.com/culture/2021/10/impeachment-accuracy-episode-6-monica-lewinsky-interrogation.html
  5. I realized that its the height and body style that aren't working for me, because I do think Beanie is really nailing Monica's giggly upbeat personality and flirty tone. Monica is at least 2-3 inches taller than Beanie, and Beanie has a short torso with her breasts seemingly taking up her entire torso. Monica has a torso, Beanie doesn't. The high-waisted skirts, while true to the time and Monica's style, only cut off Beanie's torso even more. And that has nothing to do with size -- you can be a size 2 and have no torso!

  7. Linda's encouragement of Monica to wear a peach colored outfit over a navy dress should have been the tip-off -- most women who struggle with their weight know that dark colors are more slimming than light colors -- especially peach! 🤣 I think this conversation on the show (about Monica not wearing the dress to an interview) was creative license, because the tape excerpts played during Monica's HBO documentary had Linda saying that Monica should keep the stained dress because (I'm paraphrasing) "you don't know what's going to happen and you might need it in the future" and that the dress is Monica's only insurance policy "down the road." As well, the "someone has told them something" comment was on tape too, so the show definitely converted some of the recorded conversations to in-person conversations. THAT should have been a tip-off, but 22-year-olds haven't experienced enough life to be jaded to the point where that kind of comment would raise a red flag like it would to someone older and more mature.
  8. Still on season 1 -- I love that it became a running joke through each episode -- "claw your fingers so you don't cut yourself" and her still not learning how or applying the advice. (of course this is funny only because she doesn't actually injure herself). I am pleasantly surprised about how much I am enjoying this show. And Ludo was absolutely the best chef to start the series -- he is just so damn French!! I loved how subsequent chefs gave him a hard time and commiserated about him with Selena -- in a way that clearly indicates they all love him. Antonia's story of him yelling at her on a plane was highly entertaining!
  9. With each episode, I gain even more respect for Monica Lewinsky. I've always been in her corner, but this episode highlights how much she's been able to get some perspective on the entire situation, including her manic and extreme emotional behavior. It had to be tough for her to agree to the scenes where "Monica's mentally unstable" comes across. As well, it takes someone who has done a lot of work on herself to be okay with accepting the portrayal of the person who betrayed her as having a bit of humanity. Apparently Linda did struggle a bit with what she was doing to Monica, which I never knew. As we well know, however, Linda's desperate need to be not only seen but seen as "SOMEBODY," quickly shut down any guilty conscience feelings. This episode reflects the honesty we've seen in and heard from Monica in interviews and the HBO documentary. And that she is able to have a quick wit and sense of humor about it all? #TeamMonica all. the. way. She is proof that willingness to do the work and good therapy pays off. Of course now I can't find the article that talks about this specifically. It did say that many of the show conversations were taken verbatim from the tapes. I'll post it if/when I find it again.
  10. Vulture's fact-check for episode 2. https://www.vulture.com/article/impeachment-fact-check-what-episode-two-gets-right.html
  11. Fact-checking the premiere episode. Apparently the meeting where Tripp pitched herself and Kathleen Willey as a team did happen. https://www.vulture.com/article/impeachment-episode-1-exiles-fact-check.html MOD -- should we start/do we need an "in the media" thread?
  12. You hit the nail on the head! Okay, so he had an affair in the White House. Not the first, not going to be the last. Its not like she was a spy manipulating him, or trying to get a cushy job in the White House, or anything like that. She was just having fun. The HORROR. If he wasn't going to fling with her, there would have been (and were) several someone else's. The lying about it under oath? Yeah, not so good. But men lie about affairs. They just do. Its not like he was lying about back-door channels to Russia or trying to get foreign countries to interfere in elections, or other actual traitorous behavior worthy of impeachment. It was JUST SEX. For me, I have always been able to separate Clinton the man and Clinton the president. Cheaters gonna cheat -- regardless of whether its the president, Hugh Grant, or some rando nobody. It happens. And being really truthful here, my feeling is that someone who feels like they "need" to get laid is going to be focusing more on that than their actual job until they get their physical needs sated. If he was getting laid, he was able to check that box and then focus on presidential matters. Maybe I've just been around way too many cheating horn dogs, but that's how I look at it.
  13. But comparatively, Monica was innocent. She was 22 and she naively believed that what she and Clinton had was real, regardless of his office. She has been honest about it. And she made the cardinal sin of being a woman who enjoyed sex and didn't apologize for it. She legitimately thought they were in love. And I do believe from her perspective and lack of life experience at that time, that she really believed he was in love with her. Based on what she's said, I believe he had feelings for her but there was no way he was ever going to give everything up for her. So in that respect, yes she was naive. You may want to check out the documentary Monica in Black and White -- its from 2017, I think, and its essentially an Ask Me Anything. Its a roller coaster for her, but she does it. Its on Youtube in four parts. It will give you a lot of insight in her side of things. She doesn't make excuses for her behavior and she does own up to her parts in it. But it is also clear that she never stood a chance. You may also want to watch her Barbara Walters interview. Here's the link to the first part of the "Black and White" documentary. The rest will show up in the queue as you watch them.
  14. She really was just a horrible, hateful, jealous person. I remember when all this was happening and she was just repulsive from day one. It was so obvious she was manipulating herself into everything to get her 15 minutes of fame. I have to agree Beanie is taking me out of a bit because she is so much shorter and is carrying a bit more weight than the "portly pepperpot," as Monica was called at one point during all of this, but she is capturing her giggly, girlish, naivete quite well. I can suspend the physical differences and think Beanie is going to do a good job. Did I mention how absolutely awful Linda Tripp was?? I don't see Paulson at all here, just Tripp, which means she is nailing this. I'm so glad Monica Lewinsky has finally been able to come into her own with a sense of humor and grace. Her tweets often win the Internet. What she was put through was absolutely horrible. I never understood why she was the one getting all of the vitriol and everyone else was let off the hook because of who they were. She was the perfect scapegoat and worse yet, was unapologetic about not only her feelings about him but that she enjoyed the sex. How DARE she! Fuckin' patriarchy. . . . She's done some great interviews for Vanity Fair, a Ted talk, and she was involved in the production of this show. I've been a fan of hers for a long while, and even if this show isn't the best, its another way for her to continue taking back her life. After how many years? #TeamMonica
  15. Basically, she got paid to promote a crypto that hasn't been around long enough to have any stability (for as much stability as any crypto has) and all she had to say was that it was an ad. Its the same as them promoting those stupid weight loss shakes that they don't use. Its irresponsible -- she isn't qualified to give financial advice or recommend investments but that's basically what she did for an especially risky and speculative product. Just because she has money doesn't mean she knows anything about growing it or managing it, but this tweet implies she does. Bitcoin and Ethereum are well-established, and the name association would imply that Ethereum Max is well established and will see the same massive growth as Ethereum. But they are two very different things, and there are so many other small cryptos like Max that are more established. Its also possible its a scam crypto, which means as soon as they make the money they want, poof goes the coin.
  16. I don't have issue with them eating the horse, just like I didn't have an issue with them eating the dogs. But with the dogs, it wasn't so graphic -- we saw Sasha take the shots and then heard the whimper. There was no need to show the gory details of slicing the horse's neck (and yes, wimp that I am, I covered my eyes and ears but peeked out too soon and saw the blood gushing into the pan, so that's how I know).
  17. I don't think so. I think there was significant mutual attraction between them but because he was married they didn't cross the line. It was either Holland Taylor or Yaz who made a comment along the lines of the "barrier no longer being there." Meaning the wife is deceased so now they can pursue the chemistry between them. Plus, Ji-Yoon kept stopping things when it started to get too close because she knew he was still grieving, and said as much. I think it would be out-of-character for them to have cheated.
  18. Thanks. I figured spoilers since it hasn't aired on "regular" AMC, only on plus. In the words of one Abraham Ford..."'Preciate it Pal!"
  19. Question, and it may need to be a spoiler response: How bad is/are the animal murder/kill/death/dying scenes? Even though I know its fake I am a total wuss about it and can't watch it. The humans? Not so much--take 'em out! 😄 If its bad, I'll skip it live and DVR it so I can FF through those parts. This animal-lovin' wimp thanks you in advance!
  20. I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I know firsthand several men who are not where they want to be but aren't willing to deal with everything involved in actually changing their situation. One of them described it to me as "comfortable misery." Men are simple creatures -- food, sex, sleep. If they are getting food and sleep in a familiar comfortable environment that isn't actively hostile or regularly argumentative, and they know they can get sex elsewhere, why upset the apple cart? Comfortable misery. Please know, this is not a "men will be men" kind of statement. I am NOT forgiving or sweeping off their behavior. They are just generally lazy assholes who, so long as they can have their cake and eat it too, are going to stay in the same place. I do wish more women would not forgive this behavior -- its disturbing how many women accept cheating as part of the larger package. If these men know their wives are going to ultimately forgive the cheating, there's no consequence to doing it over and over again. And so they do. p.s. -- for what its worth, I did give the guy who told me he was living in "comfortable misery" an earful . . . the word coward was used multiple times, among many other, more colorful, words. . .
  21. eh, I wouldn't read too much into this -- a lot of the elementary and junior high school kids seem to be doing it -- I know of at least three who went pink, purple, and blue, respectively. This is actually pretty normal!
  22. I thought the mocking of Candiace and her mother's house is because Candiace first tried to pass it off as hers and hers alone, then it came out that it was her mother's but Candiace was paying the whole mortgage, then it came out that in fact her mother was helping them pay the mortgage so in essence Candiace and Chris were really nothing more than her mother's tenants. As has been pointed out, even in Ho-wive world, parents often help with finances (such as Robyn's mother helping out with her home flipping attempt). The issue with Candiace was not that her mother helped out, or owned the house, or shared the expenses with them, but that Candiace tried to bullshit the situation and then the truth came out. Absolutely mock-worthy!
  23. Not a fan of Mia overall but that didn't bother me. Kids go down like that all the time. You let go of their hands for a second and they can go smash. I did feel for the little girl, because I've been with kids (and specifically my nephew who could manage to exhaust and elude THREE adults to get into trouble or get hurt!) when they hit the sidewalk like that, and it does break your heart a little because you know how much it hurts. I spent more time trying to figure out what part of Annapolis she was likely from than paying attention to her storyline. And did anyone notice . . . she seems to have landed on 36 as her age.
  24. I don't know if you can get a Pan Am retro flight bag, but you can get a TWA one -- they turned the old TWA terminal at JFK Airport into a retro hotel. Its really cool . . . https://shop.twahotel.com/collections/featured/products/vintage-flight-bag
