  1. Why yes, yes you are. And now I feel the need to run around the house with a pickle in my mouth . . .
  2. And he would likely "do his duty" and sleep with her at least once or twice to ensure an heir, but then pay her no physical attention otherwise. She would be left to lament the lack of a physical relationship, with everyone around her telling her it must be her, that she must find ways to make herself more attractive/appealing to him, etc., thus all-but-guaranteeing a life of low self esteem and no sense of self worth for Gladys and further solidifying the foundation of the white male patriarchy we all know and love so much (WHEN is someone going to come up with a sarcasm font???) :-D
  3. She said $30 or $40 . . . so assume that was the average for each booth. Mr. Russell offered $100 on the spot to each booth, surpassing in five minutes anything they could have realistically raised over three days by at least double. Thus, the slam dunk/peacocking/lion roaring of Mr. Russell making it both the most successful charity event for those who actually benefitted from the charity and simultaneously putting in their place the women who dismissed his wife and whose standing relied on the act of putting on the charity event. The indigent mothers and children mattered little to the matrons, so long as they could self-congratulate on a "most successful event for the poor and downtrodden. How wonderful we all are, and especially Mrs. X for all her hard work and effort putting it all together!" And Mrs. Astor showed up to declare the event "well and truly open"? One could not ask for more!! The "old money" had to just sit back and let it happen--to do otherwise would be to admit it wasn't actually about the charity recipients. It was masterful manipulation of the accepted, "proper" norms. As Mrs. Astor privately acknowledged. But not publicly . . . "yet."
  4. I listened to the HBO podcast last night about this episode with Morgan Spector and he talked about the Russell's relationship. Essentially the answer is yes -- they are a "different" type of couple for this era in that they do love each other and aren't together because it was a "suitable" marriage. If he truly is an "upstart" and they were together before he really started making serious cash, then that's all the more likely they married for love and like rather than status ala "Old New York"--see Agnes vanRijhn. Typing this, I just realized, that is likely going to be another facet of Agnes' character and her distaste for Bertha -- from everything we've heard, Agnes had to marry for money and it was apparently a very bad marriage, but Bertha is not only an upstart with wealth and security, she also has a husband who clearly loves her and will stand up for her.
  5. Meryl's daughter is definitely the weakest of the cast but still an enjoyable episode -- I giggled quite a bit, especially in the first part, because the absurdity of the classism and "old NY" versus "new NY" is on full display in this episode -- to the point I wonder how the cast was able to keep straight faces long enough to film! Oscar wins this episode for the best retorts to Agnes, and the dress porn is next level this week. Carrie Coon's peacock dress in the end . . . just . . . WOW. In a good way. And yeah, Morgan Spector. Any where . . . any time! Yowsa!!
  6. I'd never heard of him so I googled. Holy. Sha-mole. How is it possible to be this beautiful, x2???
  7. Let's add Dolly Parton to this list. Freddie Mercury. And the inimitable Ms. Betty White (RIP).
  8. This was on Sepinwall's twitter -- too good not to share. And one of the comments was "Che Diaz is the non-binary Jar Jar Binks of the Sex and The City Universe!"
  9. Or not -- Gilded Age got me re-interested in watching Million Dollar American Princesses about the "new money" New Yorkers. No matter what they did, the knickerbockers wouldn't accept the new money families, so the daughters were sent to London to meet and marry titled Englishmen, which forced the issue of societal acceptance when they returned to New York. The Old New Yorkers are the original knickerbockers -- I had completely forgotten about that term. Its where the Knicks (the basketball team) got their name -- something of which I'm sure the Gilded Age knickerbockers would NOT have approved! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knickerbocker_Club Its making me wonder if/when we'll be seeing Bertha take her daughter to London . . . . or if they're going to tweak history to make the knickerbockers more accepting of the new money. If they do go to London, then it really will become Downton redux.
  10. This is how I shall forever refer to someone who cheats -- someone who is "always going to community his peen." Seriously. Best thing I've read all. day.
  11. It looked to me at first glance like the Brooklyn house living room -- when couples break up, selling the marital home is often part of the break up. Since they've thrown everything else in there, may as well throw in the crazy housing market and that they are getting some obscene amount of money for the house. And then pull some more crap like Miranda is going to let Steve have most of the money because she can't not put herself in the position of being "better" than Steve and able to afford a nicer lifestyle -- at least that would be one consistent element of her character -- hello corduroy suit . . . If they are selling the Brooklyn house, because of the way this whole thing has gone, they are likely going to stick Steve in some back room or upstairs apartment of the bar. I don't recall from the series or movies whether Miranda ever sold her "just me" "single person" condo/apartment in the city, but if not, they'll probably stick her back in there; if not, we know she's going to find someplace close to wherever Che is (barf) in the city.
  12. I don't know about the effects of psoriasis, but don't a lot of skin conditions benefit from the skin being allowed to "breathe"? I would think its a significant part of skin cell regeneration and healing. I do wonder if all those BDSM clothes she lives in aren't contributing to or exacerbating any psoriasis symptoms. I know she (and the fam) do a lot of good work behind the scenes and they do attempt to bring awareness to issues, but she (and the entire fam) get in their own way with this "LOOK AT ME and oh by the way here's this awesome coffee shop addressing a significant need for marginalized citizens but hey LOOK AT ME WALKING INTO IT--AREN'T YOU SO AMAZED BY ME patronizing this coffee shop" etc. Going beyond all the sheer vapidity around it all, its also just a shame because the work they are doing could have so much more value for those they are trying to help (and I do believe that they do have a sense of philanthropy). This self-aggrandizing shit is why so many people dislike them. And they just laugh all the way to the bank.
  13. I enjoyed it -- snarky Christine Baranski is never bad, and she's clearly got a kind heart once you get past the "we are OLD New York" attitude. I like the way Cynthia Nixon is playing the spinster sister/aunt -- especially after the butchering of Miranda on And Just Like That. She's clearly going to be the unexpected voice of reason/go-between of the general clashes. And as Brn2bwild says, the clothes and scenery porn are clearly not going to disappoint!
  14. Here's the problem for me. This is the first thing I've seen Sara Ramirez in, so I have no barometer for whether this is good or bad acting by them. However, because I loathe the character, its going to be hard for me to like anything they're in because they're emblazoned in my mind as the Che character and will be forever tainted with that.
  15. To a degree -- Tiger King 2 comes to mind -- everyone couldn't get enough of the first season and at least from what I've seen and heard, or more accurately, NOT seen and heard, no one is the least bit interested in season 2. We're all desperate but not THAT desperate! 🤣 Perfect example of what should have been a one-and-done. Hopefully AJLT/HBOMax will get the clue and just let the dumpster fire finish burning out and leave it as an ash heap.
  16. I will say, reading here before watching and finding out there were Che and bad Che/Miranda Miranda/Steve sex scenes made this a much better episode as I knew when to hit the 15-second advance button. I thought the intro was showing the passage of at least a couple of seasons as she was writing, not a few months. Having worked in publishing (humanities and scholarly texts, but still publishing), I can tell you that three months from first draft to publication roll-out and promotion is unrealistic. Just the editorial review and production process typically takes longer than three months, let alone artwork and marketing.
  17. It was hard to watch but I think they did a really good job of it. I also appreciated that they Still loving my girl Morgan!!
  18. Its not as reduced as those pants make it look. Look at the waist line. They are too big around her waist but fit her butt. If she had truly reduced her ass, those jeans would be skin tight. it definitely looks smaller but is by no means back to "normal" or in line with her normal body type and frame.
  19. To be clear, this wasn't my idea or thought of how they should have done it . . . this was in an interview with MPK - the showrunner -- about why the only option for Big was for him to die. Take it up with MPK! 🤣 And as I said, if they'd done the show properly, it wouldn't be just the depression over his death. It would have been the fun we had in the past (beyond her mooning over her breakups with Big -- the show was a lot more than that).
  20. One of the articles I read with Michael Patrick King said that for Carrie to truly move into this age on her own, Big's dying was the only option, as he was always her "person." He moved away, married Natasha, dated other women, Carrie dated other men, etc., but Carrie and Big would always be the end game and somehow or another find their way back to each other in some manner. Until he was dead, he would always be a factor in her life in some regard. With Big dead, she has to finally and fully close that part of her psyche/life/etc. That makes a lot of sense and is in line with the entire canon of the original series. If they'd given us the show they should have -- and the one we were hoping for -- that would have come through.
  21. For what its worth, I'm 54 and had spinal stenosis surgery (microdiscetomy/lumbar laminectomy) about 8-10 years ago (so, 40-ish, resulting from extreme sports for the foregoing 10 or so years) --for me, the surgery was a non-issue and nowhere NEAR as dramatic, painful, or impairing as what Carrie was shown going through for her hip -- other than being driven to and home from the hospital, I was on my own and had no problems. I couldn't work out for six weeks and had to phase back into sports, but otherwise, it was the best decision I ever made -- I don't recall even having to go to PT -- I just had to make sure I walked every day, a little longer each day. Prior to the surgery, I was at a point where I was in pain if I was sitting on the couch or being super physically active, and I was carrying around probably $30K street value in painkillers. Post-recovery, I haven't had a problem since -- just occasional stiffness that I would probably experience regardless of surgery. If you have to have a fusion, that's a whole other story. But if its a microdiscetomy/laminectomy, so long as you have a good surgeon, you should be rock star afterward. I know we all handle medical stuff differently, but speaking as someone who's gone through it, my experience was a positive one.
  22. I was coming to say the exact same thing. I've been trying to give the reboot a chance despite all the criticism but this episode was just bad. There is no other word for it. Bad.
  23. Roman looked really slimy this episode . . . just sayin' Kendall looked really bald this episode . . . just sayin' Logan looked really old this episode . . . just sayin' Tom looked really blond this episode . . . just sayin' Greg looked really tall this episode . . . just sayin' So she wasn't wearing the most flattering dress that showed she wasn't a waif thin, stomach flat-as-a-board, completely unrealistic image of what some people think a woman should look like versus a real, live, living, breathing, intelligent actor. Whoop-di-friggin'-do. . . how are we STILL here???
  24. Hana Chan -- this is not a personal attack against you but a comment on an all-too-familiar narrative that has got to change. Carrie did NOT ruin Big's marriage. The one who "ruined Natasha's marriage" was Big, by pursuing and acting on his unresolved feelings for someone else, not the other person who was not betraying vows to another person. Carrie still had feelings for Big but remember her Hubble moment -- she left it alone until Big came after her and told her it was over with Natasha, that it wasn't working, etc. Carrie cheated on Aiden, yes, but she did NOT ruin someone else's marriage. Only the married person can do that. This narrative that somehow married men who cheat have no responsibility and that it is somehow always the woman's fault -- "homewrecker" -- is so misogynistic and really, really needs to change. The person who cheats is responsible if a cheating is part of why a marriage or relationship breaks up, not the person they cheat with.
  25. I read an interview with Darren Star Michael Patrick King and he said they are portraying how people started drinking more during the pandemic, earlier in the day, and that the traditional norms around "appropriate" drinking times went out the window during lockdowns. I personally dont think the drinking is THAT big of a deal. A shot of liquid courage before having to speak at the funeral of one of her chosen family's funeral? Knowing you have to try to hold it together for that person when you're heartbroken over how heartbroken they are and you know you have to do your best for them? I get it! The bottle might have been overkill at the recital but I'm willing to bet there were a lot of flasks going around that recital. You can buy a glass of wine or cocktail at just about every concert and performance venue --big or small--anymore, and yes I know this is a kid's recital but it's not like the idea would be completely foreign. Especially to those privileged upper class NY kids whose parents have likely been dragging them to concerts and performances their whole lives. The glass of wine before class--well, you gotta do something to kill the time and a lot of people still havent adjusted back to, oh yeah, I can go shopping beforehand or do something else other than sit around and wait for a zoom meeting, online class, etc to start. Not saying it's not a "thing" they're highlighting with Miranda, I am saying I don't think they're turning her into a full-blown alcoholic. Remember when Sam gained weight in LA? She didnt become a food addict, she was boredom eating. Same thing with Miranda. And for anyone who says you cant become addicted to food in the same way you can alcohol, trust me. You can. Remember this is a comedy. I think they had to get the heavy stuff with Big out of the way to really get things moving. In the original show yes they occasionally had life stuff but they focused on the funny. You cant really breeze by Big's death. If they'd done that people would flip out the same way they are about how Samantha's departure is being treated.
