  1. Having worked in Plain communities, genetic anomalies are very common. Too small a pool.
  2. I was fascinated by the fines discussion. I worked in driver's licensing for my state for 10 years...people would lose their driver's license due to library fines or restitution for crimes their underage kids committed! Truancy! My state started tacking on all kinds of things to the driver's license (child support, student loans, etc). the license was never meant to be a lever to pry small amounts of money from someone.
  3. I'm new to the series, read book# 1 and thought it was excellent. I an not liking book #2 at all. Too much political intrigue which I find dull. And I don't care about the 1960's parts of the book at all. I'm trying gut gut my way through this one as I hear the following books are more focused on Scotland.
  4. Bobby's leap over the desk as Riblet = best move of the night.
  5. Late to the party but : Loved Gaga and am not a fan. Thought she brought a gravitas to the show and committed 100%. Tim McGraw was excellent and again, I am not a fan. Thought Boyhood was hosed but it remains my favorite movie of the year so I've got that. NPH follows a long list of people who have tried to host this show and not quite succeed (the lockbox and underwear bits were complete duds). Thank you to Patricia Arquette for the performance and the speech.
  6. Just caught up and watched last night. I adored the Johnny Karate send off. I thought it was pitch perfect. I grew up on live kids variety shows and something was always going wrong or seat-of-the-pants awkward. Pratt rose to it and it was a lovely send off.
  7. I never get enough of the Mitchell/Claire dynamic. Those wounds and experiences have such a rich history, it makes their chemistry really good.
  8. There goes my childhood! ARRRGH!
  9. I bought the Spatty. I use them too! They are handy and solve a problem. My most memorable Shark Tank item was the guy trying to sell this weather machine that he'd build in the ocean. It was so far out there I barely grasped the concept. Still think about it though.
  10. I really like Janelle a lot but never more than when she just outright said about Sister Wives Closet: "It is a HOBBY".
  11. OMG the yoga outfit..."you're stretching it out!".
  12. Loved Stefon. Kills every time. I was watching for the Jan Hooks tribute. I liked the piece they chose but I wish they had gone with something funny, like the Sweeney Sisters with Shatner. Jan was very funny and deserved to be remembered that way. When they did Gilda's memorial, it was a dance piece with Steve Martin that was sweet and funny. I'll never forget Martin's introduction to it: "We were so young and she was so good".
  13. Absolutely adored this episode and the entire short run series. I'll be really pissed if we don't get more. I loved the loser animated bit.
  14. I was unmoved by the feudal era "She can't marry me until I get a deal" story. 21st century called, left message. However, I was delighted when the white colleague pulled out his seemingly fluent Japanese at the negotiation point. Nice touch.
  15. When I was working as an acute care nurse in pediatrics, I found out that Make A Wish really isn't for dying children any more....any old chronic illness will do. And it gets kind of creepy/avarice sometimes. I wasn't really sure that he was supposed to be that sick in the story, maybe just physically impaired. I love this episode. Sprinkle! Peter Pan treatment+the worlds worst gynecological care center. Just funny.
  16. This is my favorite episode so far. The not talking, the resolution of both dating couples was inspired. The rant about AIDS musicals was hilarious. I find the humor edgy and clever.
  17. Just saw the pilot. Absolutely loved it. Brave and funny.
  18. Too bad about the cancellation. I didn't really like season 3 but I was hoping for more anyway. I always felt the actors gave 100% even if the writing took odd directions.
  19. Just saw the finale after getting home from vacation. I'm no Charlaine Harris fan because she crapped all over her own canon in the last few books ....but this was atrocious. I was just happy for any snippet of Eric and Pam. The mystery guy/baby daddy for Sookie flies in the face of the entire story line. An why did they spend so much time in the prior episode dying Sarah Newlin's hair? Still made no sense to me. More sense than Endlessly Listless Bill but not much.
  20. Bruce a father? I doubt he can make change.
  21. Please send Rudy home. Please.
  22. I think Paquin has done a terrific job with the character. I read all the books, even the last few awful ones and she IS Sookie as written. I thought the digging in the ground bit for the gun was incredibly lame but that the actors did their very best to give it some dignity.
  23. Just more awful and squirm inducing every week. The "negotiating" over the foot massage was embarrassing, as it would be anywhere in the US outside of NY. The exterior shots of Sweden were lovely. No Claes Mansson this week :( . I also missed the ending as Obama couldn't wait another minute. I did like the Ace of Base riff...Ace of Base!... And how you need to be proud of hometown heroes despite the actual worth of their accomplishments.
  24. At this point the show is a bad car accident with pretty scenery. There is so much to dislike...a supposedly competent accountant who has no idea he has no money in his account? He moves to another country and has done zero research into their culture and laws? Even I know about the driving laws in Sweden and the zero death objective. There was a huge article on it in the NY Times. I don't even like the key relationship. There is zero chemistry between these 2 actors. Not sure if I can go on with this show, hoping for more Lena Olin and Claes Mansson. (Sorry, I have no umlauts or knowledge of how to make them appear.)
