  1. I adore this show and it's one I watch without glancing at my phone or laptop. I don't want to miss a look at the camera or touches like Janine turning the "hello" sign on Ava's desk to face to guest and Ava turning it back to face herself. It's just packed with humor and wit. (I have a lot of teacher friends so have donated books to classroom libraries and sent wishlist items and it still makes me mad they're a thing, especially because of how and why and where they are).
  2. Or it doesn't work for some people and while I've never had it done, friends with my kind of muscle atrophy have reported good results, because it helps increase bloodflow, and sometimes pain relief isn't the goal or only goal (and, believe it or not, for some of us Ben Gay and even pure lidocaine don't work for pain). This is not an endorsement of cupping. Altman almost made me dump this show his first seasons (maybe his love for his dogs and their love for him told me there was more to him), but I enjoy this show much better when I don't have to grit through his scenes and like everyone. This was fun!
  3. Oh, interesting. Thank you. I looked what else is at that address and there's a Bertucci's but when I did a search for Buca di Beppo in that city, I got job opening for Bertucci's at Buca di Beppo. Looks like the Google pic is outdated, but it looks like you figured it out! That's interesting. Guy does seems to have good ideas for creating TV shows and business opportunities. One time I saw him and Hunter watching one of their shows and talking about how Guy had conceived it. I figured he could be taking credit for a bit more than he'd done, but I think he really is a pretty good at coming up with ideas and being clever at pivoting. Thank you again! I liked finding out about this.
  4. Yeah, Hunter seems nice enough and I've always thought it was nice that guy has such good relationships with his kids (I know we don't see the younger son much but when we do it seems they get on well). And if I had a business empire, I'd groom my kids if they wanted to be part of it. But right now, even after being on TV a lot, he's just not good at it. Maybe on his own, he could do well cooking or hosting with his own calmer, softer persona, but for now, he just flattens the mood. I haven't been investing enough in this to keep everyone straight. I did enjoy the creation of new sauces since for me, with chicken, they can make or break my meal. We got a Popeyes a year or so ago, and they have a 100% record of giving us the wrong sauces for my tenders and I've liked all of them. But I have preferences and they seem determined to deny me those. I'm more interested in this now because I noticed on GrubHub that was have a Guy Fieri's Flavortown Kitchen not far away (delivery only, but I don't know if that's because of the pandemic). They have some of the items they talk about on this show (super melty cheese and The Chicken Guy classic sandwich) but also entrees and such. The ratings aren't great and I tend to try to avoid ordering from GrubHub or other delivery services unless the local business I'm trying to support only uses those. But Guy has so many different kinds of restaurants and endeavors that if Hunter isn't good at TV, there should still be some job for him. But then, those places probably get more business because Guy is on TV and if he doesn't have a successor once he's done with the public part, will his business suffer. https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/guy-fieris-flavortown-kitchen-412-franklin-st-braintree/2364877
  5. In the thread for that episode, I posted that I went back and watched them find the stuff from the bag. I was looking for a clue as to who the blackmailer was, not sure if it was significant whether the bag was left behind or not. But Shauna had mentioned earlier that her daughter had made it for Jeff and he kept it with his special things (which, not nice Shauna, though she did think he was cheating and I still think he can be condescending). I figured if the bag was left and just the money taken, it might not be Jeff, because the bag meant something to him, but if it was taken, maybe it was Jeff. Seems like a blackmailer wouldn't risk there being a second tracker sewn in or something. It wouldn't be definitive, but I was curious, so I rewatched. Shauna says the blackmailer dumped out the stuff they'd put in to hide the tracker. I couldn't see the bag, but I also couldn't tell if it wasn't there for sure. From what I could see, I didn't think it was. I know time has passed and even if Van healed quite a bit, and I am so glad Van and Tai got the moment with everyone happy for them, that much face-touching and kissing would hurt (that was pre shroomfest.
  6. I remember in episode one, at the party when Jackie pulls to the team aside and makes them all say nice things about each other, she's wearing a pale yellow jacket. I thought at the time that it was a "yellow jacket" and wondered if wearing yellow was a thing among the team. I think I noticed it a time or two, but I can't be sure, but yellow is one of the school colors, and Jeff seems like the guy who seems to be stuck on his high school glory days, telling her (jackass) that she "married into homecoming royalty." My eyes may never stop rolling. Which reminded me of that pic on the magazine Shauna had in her bag when the "reporter" showed up. It looked from the brief flash like high school Jackie's hair and I thought it could be from later in life and she could be alive, but it also could be a homecoming pic or something similar. But who knows? I have no idea who Adam is and he could be lying about his age and when he was in school, etc. But even though I think they did a good job of casting the adult and teen versions I see a lot of posts criticizing how unalike they look. I'd chuckle if the same people who make them think Adam can't be Javi because they don't look enough alike, but it could be different people. Either way, Adam could be just some guy who sparked with Shauna immediately; it does happen. Or his intentions could be nefarious. Either way, I'm not much influenced by how much he does or doesn't look like teen Javi. And yes to those who say there would have been chaperones. Teachers, parents, something. I went to high school in the 1970s, when things were even looser and any trip we took, whether it was overnight, weekend, or just a day trip, there were chaperones, male and female. I remember being glad my mom wasn't the chaperoning type.
  7. Since this is streaming and has been out awhile, I figure I don't need to spoiler-tag anything about what one of the chefs has been up to since the show. If you're behind you could take it as a sign that the person won the money and used it for this, though they also might not have. So stop reading or not. I posted on my FB page about this show and a local friend said Thiago is opening a patisserie in her downtown area. It's a good place for him, I think, and I'm thrilled for him and the friend who gets to go there (I'm homebound and she offered doorstop delivery, so I might, too). In case anyone reads more, I found an article.
  8. You reminded me that I wanted to nutpunch Jeff not just for picking the dress and a yellow one at that, but mostly for "you married into homecoming royalty." He may have been joking but he really does seem to be one of those people who will never let go of their high school glory days, no matter that part of his wife's high school senior year was spent in horrific situations. And he really does seem to want her to never forget (in his eyes; in mine it's the reverse) she married up.
  9. This isn't exactly media but I've had the Shameless marathon on and between episodes they've shown the actors playing Shauna, Tai, and Misty, and Natalie as adults and teens. They're full of mutual praise, of course, but some process notes. One I loved was that the actor playing adult Tai said one day she got a text from teen Tai actor, as she was shooting, asking, "Do we say eee-ther or eye-ther?" I found that kind of adorable. The adults and teens may not match physically as closely as some might find acceptable, but I've thought they've nailed the gestures, speech, etc. I'm sure they're on the Showtime website it anyone wants to see them.
  10. Seeing Van's teeth through her cheek was rough. As to whether her injuries were survivable or not, it's fiction, but also working in an ER made me realize people can survive some things they just logically, medically shouldn't be able to, even with a staff of experts working on them, and sometimes after not being found for awhile. So, I can let it go, even though it might not make sense. I like Van, so I want her to live (though it's still a very, very long shot). And I also hope someone checked her pulse, but even when I was an RN, it took awhile before I felt comfortable knowing someone was dead. You get better at it, but at first, I was only calling the physician to get them to come officially pronounce the patient, but you did not want to get it wrong, because some docs would take it out on your for a long time. It got easier, and as a hospice RN, I did the pronouncing, then called the funeral home. Thankfully, none of my patients even woke up in the funeral home or morgue but that's happened. Glitter truly is the herpes of the craft world, but it may help Shauna, so for once, go glitter! Not saying who left it there, but at least she's aware of one person it could be. If I'd been on that plane, I don't know if I'd ever be able to fly or go into the woods, even with people I trust. But I also might want to keep up the survival skills I learned so I could see killing the occasional bunny just to stay good at it (not that we know that's why Shauna did it, and I spend every day of bunny season enjoying seeing them eat our plants and lawn) and maybe she tests herself in other ways. Others might, too.
  11. In the early MDLNY days, I loved Frederik, but he managed to erode that And though I know he's probably there for drama and not going anywhere, if he did leak the story and it can be proved, I wish Bravo would dump him. Getting a fellow agent and castmate fired is a step too far. Maybe it's a storyline, but it also something that seems like Frederik would do. But to focus on the positive, which is everything else, this show is gold. Seeing two happy marriages, getting to see the spouses with them and interact, and the whole vibe. Years ago, if Altman had made the "you're a professional bull rider," I feel like it would be have with his whole former chest-thumping attitude but this was funny and goofy and made me happy for them being so happy together. And Bobby doing his thing and being so supportive of Flagg. I know it's only four episodes, but I hope the network is getting lots of positive feedback and gives us more. Should I/we hit them on social media or what? I want more!
  12. I am definitely not encouraging you to buy more books or otherwise questioning or judging your choice. But for anyone who finds themselves with books on the shelf they'll never touch again, there are a lot of places that would love them as donations. My closest library has a dedicated book store attached to it, but many have shelves or carts or periodic sales, and mostly sell donated books. Libraries in lower-income areas especially can use them. I live near Boston and there's a bookstore there that exists to empower and help adults and children who were/are in the foster care system, who also run it and staff it. They sell new and used books, vinyl, and a few other things, but rely most on book donations. I'm hoping to enter hospice soon and I've got boxes of books and the other things they accept basically taking up all the space in my sparely furnished spare bedroom. They even make porch picks, which we might do since it would be a lot of trips for my husband. Wherever people live, if they need to do book purges, there are a wealth of places that want and need book donations.
  13. I started watching this and didn't care if I got spoiled. Read some reviews that were negative because there was so little drama because there were no eliminations each week and all this other stuff that I did not miss at all. I love seeing people do what they're good at and when you have a true master completely invested in helping everyone there get better at their craft, and each person there wanting to win, but also there to improve and learn. Well, I love it. I'm only two episodes in (watching one a night to savor it) so my comments are premature, maybe, but I'm just enjoying it so much. I'd love to see a few more shows with this format, which would lend itself to all kinds of disciplines.
  14. I was somewhat into it for the first three episodes but the last didn't work for me at all. Probably what I enjoyed most was seeing Dipo Ola from We Hunt Together as Susan's lawyer. I mean, Colman and Thewlis were excellent as usual, and the supporting staff was good, but glad it's over.
  15. In his early seasons, Altman was almost a dealbreaker for me on this show. But I always at least thought he was good at his job (something I never seem to think about the Brits, only one of whose name I can even remember. They're nice enough, but I lose interest when they're on screen) and he loved his dogs and they loved him. That is always endearing to me. And when he met Heather, their dating could have been a storyline, because it's reality TV but it didn't feel like it. I was rooting for them, even as I still couldn't stand Altman. But he's pretty likable now, and I still think he's good at his job. It was also interesting seeing show some self-awareness and vulnerability in talking about his feelings (even if it was to Pinsky, blech), which shows more strength than his past swagger (he still has that but it's at a bearable, to me, level now). I'd also like to see Heather featured more. She seems to be doing her job and I get she's got skills. Like seeing her sitting typing a counter feels like she's really doing it, not liked it's for show. I could lose Frederk, who I used to love, or the Brits, and get some new people. Heather would be a good choice. Always got a kick of out Flagg. He's still a character and just odd but also seems good at what he does. All in all, the four of them together are fun to watch. I don't care if the situation is or isn't contrived. It's fun!
  16. Jeff as blackmailer is an interesting idea. I don't think he is, but decided to look at whether the blackmailer took the bag that Shauna's daughter made for Jeff, which could have some sentimental value. He "dumped out all their stuff," which made it sound like he took the bag and money but nothing else. I couldn't tell for sure when I looked, but I think the bag was gone. Would it be quicker to just grab the money and leave everything else? With one tracker, why take the chance there wasn't another in a pocket? Would Jeff care enough about the bag/his daughter to take it out of sentimentality, or would the blackmailer take it to conceal the money? Could also be Adam, who could also be Javi. No idea, I'm not good at this, which is why I usually just read the speculation of all of you who are, but I am enjoying trying to figure it all out and while I'd binge this in a heartbeat, I'm glad to be frustrated by having to wait. Aw, Van. She was (and I guess could still be alive, but I doubt it) one of the best characters.
  17. Saving Single All the Way for our Christmas Eve cuddle-watch was one of my better life decisions. That was charming and funny and real (well, for one of these movies) with a terrific cast. I had to look up Philemon Chambers, who played Nick, because he was so good, and was shocked to see that this is his second acting credit, at least according to IMDB, and the first one was a short. I want to see what he does next.
  18. Oh, my gosh. I want to bake you cookies! Thank you so much. I've searched and searched and never been able to find which episode it was. I am so grateful!
  19. I have done it and will always do it in Starbucks only, because that's how it is on the menu and I cannot take the chance of a single sip of Starbucks coffee passing through my lips. Love a lot of their drinks, but their coffee is vile to me. What a gem. Loved all four bakers, as I did in their seasons, and was glad they all did pretty well. I was delighted that Noel was there with Helena again and she's just so herself. They all had fun and Rahul's speech at the end got me all emotional. Love Henry's gold blazers, loved the showstoppers, everything. And, ffs, Rahul wasn't that long-winded when Paul sniped. Plus, I find his thought processes interesting and always want to hear from competitors on any talent/skill-based competition about the why and how, etc. But the episode was still a nice, warm hug.
  20. I loved this show when it aired initially. I don't have Hulu and won't be getting it, and used up my free trial (I'm about to transfer to hospice, which is a good thing, so I don't think I can do a full-rewatch anyway). So asking a favor if anyone knows or as you watch, you see it. I've read every episode description and can't figure out what episode Kimberly makes a speech about when some man hugs you "accidentally" brushes you in a way you know is wrong...it's basically a monologue on unwanted touching (I could be remembering the few specifics I'm mentioning wrong, but at the age I was, those words resonated and I've never forgotten the feeling of getting something so deeply) . If anyone comes across that episode and wants to share the title, can you let me know. Post or DM. Thanks. And whether or not anyone responds, enjoy having this show back!
  21. I have e-book accounts with eight different library systems. Covers a lot of the state. I already had two physical cards from different systems (one in my city just outside Boston, which is a different system from Boston's, where I worked and attended grad school) when e-readers first came out and thanks to neuromuscular and visual issues, I, an avid reader who taught myself to read before I turned three, could barely read anymore, but e-readers (not tablets or phones, too much glare) gave me back reading. I was a very early adopter. So early, there wasn't a huge selection yet, so I got two more system's cards. And then after about a decade, eight systems started opening accounts up to card holders from the other libraries so I have eight accounts. Now, it's rare I can't find a book I want. I still give books as gifts (even more since a friend bought an indie bookstore and I found a local bookstore that exists to empower and help kids who are/were in the foster care system, who work there and run it, and they both ship!), buy them for schools and programs looking for donations, etc, but for me, it's all e-book borrowing. I've been in the hospital twice for month-long stretches. Wow, did it help to be able to check books out from my hospital bed, especially since between the meds and the chaos of the hospital, it took a lot of tries to find a book to hold my interest. So both.
  22. I certainly do, though I am, according to you, not a real woman. I've always been skinny, no curves, and you quoted someone who said, "Traditional models one week, plus size the next." and changed it to "Traditional models one week, plus size real women the next." So, maybe we could all do better about not letting the pendulum swing back between which groups we're allowed to stigmatize (I'm old enough to have seen at least one or two swings, but historically it just keeps swinging) and stop body-shaming altogether. I am very happy to slap back against fat phobia, and always will, even when told to eat a sandwich ;). Sorry you felt harmed, genuinely. I think it was a very good unconventional challenges week and am glad popcorn didn't oust Chasity. I want to see more from her. Aaron's design was gorgeous, but wow, can he not be sour and superior for two seconds? It was a nice, light moment when the designers were singing to Christian, who really does want them all to succeed and he was . Can't argue with who went home, but overall, it was one of the better unconventional challenge.
  23. That reminded me of an SNL bit, which (to me, anyway) made it ever more fun.
  24. I remember when Adrienne was murdered. I'd always liked her and felt terrible. When they first said she was murdered, I swear the first story the killer told was that she had come and yelled and him for making noise and basically tried to claim she provoked him (I looked up some old articles he did). I have a terrible memory so I can't remember if they addressed that in the doc. I don't think I knew until I watched this that he'd been robbing apartments. Her daughter knows that her mother's last work was a love story to her. So heartbreaking.
  25. Oh, yeah. Aaron should not only have given a real, heartfelt apology, but he also should have initiated the peace-making, which Bones did and graciously. I have no doubt that Bones wanted to calm the waters partly to get the damn garment made, but he was effective, calm, and, to repeat myself, gracious. Plus he gave Aaron a free lesson I hope Aaron takes to heart about the privilege that let him act the way he did, while Bones can't. I've liked Bones all along, even when I get others' criticisms. He really is an excellent team player and leader. And if wigs make him happy, I like 'em. Oh, my gosh, the last time I had a concussion, which was mild, I lost my lifelong addiction to coffee (because that happened, my husband and I mused about else in my brain might have changed, and I pulled an elaborate prank to make him think I stopped loathing and started loving football). But it really did change my brain and you don't mess around with concussions. I'm horrified.
