  1. I really think Chaminda should carve something in a permanent material (not on this show). He is immensely talented. I've seen things in galleries not as good as what he can do in pumpkin in a few hours. That lion head and his Batman figures were marvelous.
  2. I thought maybe I just wasn't paying attention but I didn't recall hearing a word about lava during the assignment so I was surprised as well. It became obvious that they all had to use it. I don't begin to understand why the losing team opted to ignore the very clear requirement to make a volcano. They seemed like nice guys but they deserved to lose for not fulfilling the assignment. I hope those singing women go soon. They obviously see themselves as cute and quirky but I can't stand either of them.
  3. I was surprised by the tie for first. I thought the tree was good and I like the guy who made it (can't think of his name) but I thought the hot air balloon was the winner hands down.
  4. I've never heard of any of those "celebrities." I am old. :)
  5. The right team went home. I'm sorry to lose the French guy but I haven't liked the woman since the "Road to....." show when she interviewed. I'm rooting for Dean's team all the way.
  6. I wanted Mike to win but his 4th dessert seemed simple and less than impressive. The others had flaws too so I don't know how the judges made their decision. In the end, I don't feel too bad for Mike because he's a doctor and probably needed 50K a lot less than Ashlee. I suspect he wasn't doing it for the money in the first place. I was shocked when I noticed that Ashlee is only 33 y/o. All this time, I thought she was in her 50s based on looks. Her daughter looked mostly grown too. This show was new to me so I had no idea that it was on season 4. I'll have to see if I can find the previous seasons.
  7. Oh, me too! Then the one sang her description of their project. Gag. Can't stand them. The woman with the "Karen" haircut (which looks great on her) reminds me of Erin from HGTV. I keep doing a double-take when I see her.
  8. I wouldn't be at all surprised. Or maybe he worked for years as a line cook and the reason he worked at so many places is that he kept getting fired. He's obnoxious. She was practically in his lap. Who sits that close to someone when they're trying to eat? I wonder if he rented her for the occasion.
  9. I was astonished when the guys who made the carousel horse didn't win. As far as I could see, their only flaw was that the one head didn't spin as planned. I thought the winners' display, while ambitious, was a mess. The centaurs on the carousel were awful. I usually understand the judges' decisions but I sure didn't this time.
  10. I'm still watching but I didn't get to the semi-finals tape until last night. I too have been rooting for Mike so I was happy he made it to the finale. I was sorry to see Tim leave though. I get the decision but I preferred him to the two women left. I'd really really like to know how a police detective got into baking. I wonder if he takes a lot of teasing at work.
  11. I kinda thought the same thing. I understood the criticism about cutouts but the turtle was my favorite of all of them. I was surprised the moray eel won because I never would have figured out that it was supposed to be an eel. I think the judges gave her extra credit for having pumpkins inside of pumpkins. I liked the man with the hatchet that moved better.
  12. I'm really reaching here but I wondered if the announcement that a whole team had left the competition and no small scare were somehow related. Something happened that they couldn't/wouldn't televise?
  13. When James speaks, I hear Dueling Banjos in my head but Mandi's high-pitched voice just makes me cringe.
  14. Yes, that's the one I meant. I associated it with Halloween because of the decorations I guess.
  15. Whoops. You're right. I don't know why I typed Duff instead of Buddy. I knew that. I think I was thinking of Geoff from Charm City Cakes.
  16. I don't remember that one. Are different episodes shown in Canada and the U.S.? The one I saw last night was Halloween-themed with returning teams of bakers. I really miss Harry also. The new gal is OK. She seems nice but she's a little much. Ron Ben-Israel is campy without being so loud. I'll never understand why so many teams design creations that they can't finish on time. You'd think they'd practice at home and time themselves. The competitors on the old FN Challenge always did and, as I recall, were expected to. Anyway, I love this show. They keep the goofiness to a minimum and spend most of the time letting us watch how the bakers are creating instead of focusing on the judges. I am constantly amazed by some of the artistic talent and clever use of baking materials.
  17. I thought most of those pavlovas looked pretty bad. Black meringue doesn't whet my appetite at all. The Charlotte Royals didn't look good either. I suspect the judges have to work to keep from giving Ryan most of the wins. Both of the people in the bottom deserved to be there. I think they sent the right person home.
  18. I had no idea who the female judge was either but she was fine for this particular show. I hope Valerie comes back for the regular show though. She and Duff are great together. Jason didn't look much different but the others have all grown since their season. I liked all of them. It's always interesting to me what they covet from the display table. Usually they mention the blast chiller but this year Naiel wanted the stand mixer and piping tips. He's really serious about his baking.
  19. That was my opinion exactly. Ralph was always Duff's right hand man. I wonder what he's doing now. Based just on the first episode plus the shots of previous works, I think the Indian guy is a winner.
  20. Seriously though................ I was very happy that Grant won. I thought for several episodes that they were setting Kennedy up but I guess not because they could have called her cake wonderful and viewers wouldn't have known better. She was trying too hard to be cute and edgy. I worried when she had one plate decorated all around with green moss or something and none of the judges told her not to put things on plates that can't be eaten. I wondered why they ignored that. Anyway, I liked Grant and he won fair and square.
  21. LOL I never knew that corn would exacerbate lobster. Good grief.
  22. I liked Phoebe. I didn't expect she'd win but I thought she'd last longer than she did. The other woman's cake looked worse to me but Phoebe sort of nodded when her name was called so maybe she knew something we didn't. I had a feeling she wasn't surprised. My first thought when Chad started coughing was Covid but the show went on so I guess not. Maybe they'll let him come back for another season. He must have been very disappointed to have to drop out. John's hair has gone so grey that his signature white streak barely shows up any more. Love him.
  23. I also love this show but I liked it even better when Harry was a judge. Last night, I was hoping the giant frog would win. I'd like to know what tipped the scales toward the winner, also a good display. Just curious.
  24. I was very relieved to see Jonathan hosting again and I got a huge kick out of him saying, "I'm baaaaack!" That told me that FN realized people weren't happy with Zac and wanted the show back the way it was. Small Scare too. I've always liked Dean Murray so I was happy to see him there. The grey in his hair made me wonder how long this show has been on. Years and years apparently. I've watched it since the beginning but I can't remember how long ago that terrific first season was. I was happy to see Froggy too. I missed the ho-ho-ho pumpkin at the beginning. I always had to say that out loud along with him. :)
