  1. I'm still having trouble keeping everyone straight. I wish they'd show the winning and losing displays along side the teams when they announce who won and who is leaving. Five minutes after the show ended, I couldn't remember which display was which. ???
  2. Me too. I've watched most of the episodes but I can't get into it either. I'm sure that part of it is that I can't stand Brooke. She's clearly very good at what she does and she seems to be well-respected for her abilities but I think she's a poor sport. She's smug when she wins and indignant or tearful when she doesn't. My other problem with it is the judging and scoring. One judge has all the power and IMO can manipulate the scores if he/she chooses. I think most of them have a pretty good idea whose dish they are tasting based on knowledge and experience. I don't like catfish either Bastet. I'm not a fussy eater but I grew up back east on haddock and halibut and catfish just seems mushy and tastes of dirt. I've lived in the Midwest for decades where it's very popular and I still don't care for it. But I LOVE lima beans.
  3. Ray has been on a number of shows over the years. I think he was on the one that Duff hosted where the teams went back to their homes for three days and brought back large and complex displays. Not sure. I think he was also on the Halloween shows where teams did giant lawn-size displays with pumpkins. Again, not sure. I know I've seen him quite a few times but I don't remember ever seeing him on any of the baking shows that eliminate someone every week. Could be wrong. Hmmmmm..............maybe Cake Wars?
  4. I have to go with smashing a cake (or anything) on a floor for more stupid but I don't understand the point of doing either. I think the producers must lie awake nights thinking up gimmicks. I was very happy for Josh. I hope he and Kevin both make it to the finale.
  5. I've never seen it either so the references were lost on me but that didn't really affect my opinion of the cookies. I wish they'd give them more time or let them make their doughs the night before so they can use show time to decorate. That's a lot more interesting to viewers I think. Most of the bakers make beautiful cookies at home or in their shops when they're not rushed so I blame the less impressive results on the show on lack of time and, probably, nerves.
  6. I'm enjoying the Julia Child challenge so far. I thought the right chef won both episodes. The Chopped set has needed an overhaul for years. The blue paint and decorations along the walls and passageway behind the cooking stations look good. I wish they'd leave them there after the tournament.
  7. I love Carson. I enjoyed the show but I wondered how long ago it was filmed. Justin suffered some serious injuries from his boating accident and I didn't see any sign of scars or anything. I know they film these episodes months in advance but that accident was two or three years ago I think.
  8. I would have sent Justine home instead of Jennifer. It seems to me that undercooked pastry is worse than a few spots of burned crust. Jennifer wasn't going to make it much longer though so I guess it doesn't matter in the long run.
  9. I'm sure I've watched every episode of this show but I didn't recognize any of those people. I watched several of the reruns too and only one looked familiar. I think I must pay a lot more attention to the cookies than the bakers. The blue quilt was very nicely done and I liked two of the three stadiums. I was impresed by how much detail the bakers were able to add in a short time period.
  10. I really iked the teachers and was sorry to see them go but I can't argue with the decision. Their build failed on several levels. As above, I thought Paul and Nealita should have won. Their car looked great and stayed together. The shark was zippy but it fell part. I guess I didn't completely understand the judging criteria.
  11. I wasn't at all impressed with Gordon's little talks with the contestants. He said basically the same things to every one of them. It was all theater for the viewers. That chaotic challenege was ridiculous. It was maybe OK with a person or two short but HK is not a diner. Making one person try to keep track of what they and everyone else was doing was just mean. Dahmere looks like a winner.
  12. I liked Lorraine a lot and I'd be very happy if she returned but I've read that she's involved in other pursuits back home in England so I don't think there's any danger of her returning.
  13. I've always thought that he did that mainly to keep frosting and crumbs out of his whiskers then started playing it up a bit when viewers mentioned it. It doesn't annoy me like Nancy's nonsense does.
  14. I really enjoy this show. The thing I like best is that most of the time is devoted to letting us watch what the bakers are doing. Most of them are amazingly talented at things like sculpting. I often wish the judges would tone down some of the goofiness but they don't waste much show time on it so I don't really mind. On the last show, I couldn't decide between the one with all the cute and beautifully done mice and the one with elves messing up the tree. I would have been happy with either winning. I've already forgotten what the third display was but I knew they were out of the running.
  15. I'm enjoying this too. I was dismayed to see Tiffani sitting there as I usually can't stand her but even she was fun in this show. I love Marc and Amanda and I know they're good friends in real life so I got a kick out of their carrying on. Scott is nice to look at but he's so impressed with himself that I was glad he didn't win for his sandwich.
  16. I like her and I think she has the skills but not the temperament for competition and things like twists. I don't think she should have been bottom two though. Her decorations were lamentable but her cake was fine. The woman who made red velvet cake didn't meet the challenge which was opera cake. She should have been in the bottom even if her cake was good. In any event, Alex was the right one to go so it didn't matter in the long run. I enjoyed the episode. There were a lot of laughs. Bert presenting his "dead" turkey cracked me up. It looked just like that. I'm not sure that Josh has the skill set to make it to the end but I love his personality and great smile. I hope he lasts a long time.
  17. I was worried that they were going to keep them for the drama instead of the other team that did far better work. They didn't even mention the poor quality of the horse. Parker was an immature PIA but the other two weren't much better. I feel like I should know the big guy on the other team, the one who was helping the woman who shouldn't have needed all that help, but I can't place him.
  18. I like Eddie but I've never understood how he somehow became a baking expert when that was never his area of expertise. At least on The Big Bake he's working with two pastry experts and his role seems to lean more to be entertaining. When it's just Eddie and Ree (who isn't a baking expert either), I have a lot less confidence in his judgment. And hers for that matter.
  19. Thanks for the link. I hadn't thought about it before but putting that show together is really complex.
  20. LOL!!! That summed the scheduling up nicely and made me laugh. I felt sorry for Ali. She seemed like someone I would like a lot in real life. She's probably still embarrassed, especially now that people are watching her implode. I have no problem with Justine's accent. I just find her way too perky, maybe deliberately so.
  21. I think that was my problem with it. I'm certainly familiar with the Rudolph/Christmas connection. In fact, my older daughter (who is now 57 y/o) has collected abominable snowmen for years. A few years ago, I bought one for her that winds up and walks around on the floor singing. Her dog is afraid of it. LOL Anyhow, I didn't like them in settings where they didn't belong.
  22. I was going to say the same thing. I think he won but I'm not 100% sure. I really like him. So far I like all the bakers. I find Justine annoying but I don't actually dislike her. I was sorry to see Ali go. She was one of my early favorites but I can't argue with her elimination. I've been trying to remember the name of a one-off show a couple years ago that followed several people making creations for some huge cake competition somewhere on the east coast - maybe Virginia. One of the people was the "glamorous" woman with an English accent from a couple years ago and another was, I think, Sharrad. I might be mixing him up with someone else but he looked familiar to me right away.
  23. The characters displayed by the team that lost in the first hour were the worst I can remember seeing since this show began. I was surprised the judges weren't more critical. Maybe they felt that sending them home was criticism enough. I'm not sure what an abominable snowman riding a bull has to do with the holidays but it did turn out a lot better than I expected it would. There seemed to be friction on all the teams in the second hour. I hope that stops.
  24. I remembered him as soon as I saw him. I think he won that season but I wouldn't swear to it. He deserved to win last night. Those curtains he made were sort of fascinating. I remember the very first cookie show. It was quite different. The room they were in was much smaller. I don't recall who the judges were right now but they definitely weren't Ree and Eddie. I do remember that one of the losing contestants was a smug woman who had worked for Martha Stewart and the winner made cookies that didn't exactly meet the challenge but got away with it and I was annoyed.
