  1. I noticed the same things but had a completely different reaction. My take on it was that she was behaving like a lady and not carrying on like she was on Worst Cooks or something. I liked her.
  2. I was very happy with Ryan's win. Sammi may be a good cook but she was only 25 y/o and burst into tears too often. Johnathon also seemed less mature than Ryan even though they are the same age. Neither of them were ready for a leadership position. There's an interesting interview with Ryan in today's online Parade. I don't have a link because it popped up on my phone. I didn't realize that his dad is a chef or that he had lived in Forida for a couple years before the show. The scoring for the semi-finals is a joke. I'm sure that Gordon has decided by that time who will be in the final two and who will win so acting like the decision will come down to a point or two is nonsense. Even more ridiculous is telling the last judge that the last dish needs an 8 to tie and 9 or 10 to win. I very much doubt that Gordon left the final decision up to Curtis Stone. Overall, I found this season to be the best one yet.
  3. I could see the clues being short things that identify a monarch - 6 wives, lost his head, last of the Stuarts, etc. However, the majority of the contestants look quite young so they'd all probably know Henry VIII and then.........duh, pass.
  4. I would know those categories too but not the ones you mentioned before that. My area of expertise is British history/the monarchy - which will probably never come up.
  5. This is my new favorite show. I look forward to it and it seems to go by really fast. I especially like that there's no OTT shrieking and jumping up and down and also no hugging. I enjoy playing along. I'm good at trivia while watching but I would probably go totally blank if I had to think fast in front of all those people and under that pressure. And I know very little about sports and popular culture so I wouldn't get very far. Yeah. Holy smokes. I thought everyone knew that line. I like Steve. I hope he continues to do well.
  6. I'm enjoying this show too. It seems to go very fast despite the frequency of commercials. I like quizzes and trivia but I'm terrible at categories that fall under the umbrella of "popular culture" so I wouldn't do well on this. I was hoping someone would pick "Junk Drawer" because I was dying to know what was in it.
  7. I couldn't stand that kid either. He didn't come on until almost the end so I was glad of that. I never did understand why Duff and Valerie loved him. Still don't. The most interesting thing was seeing Ellora. I didn't even recognize her until she spoke and I knew her voice. I'm glad she's doing well.
  8. I'm liking this show too but I've been wondering the same thing. I guess that's the risk the competitors take but it would feel unfair even if it isn't.
  9. I like everyone above and also Jesse James in Australia but my favorite realtor is Taniel in Puerto Vallarta.
  10. Yike!!!! I didn't kniow any of that about Joshie. I'm really disappointed because I liked him (now past tense).
  11. I've been thinking the same thing. These kids are messier and a lot less creative than most of the kids in previous seasons. Most of them copied Duff's version of a tree and many of them made sandboxes and little else. The one boy who was clever enough to make a swing set didn't seem to notice that it was very sloppy.
  12. Joshie. He was in season 2 and I think he was ADHD. I loved him. And he won. The first two seasons had real people and the show went slowly downhill from there then picked up speed until we ended up where we are now.
  13. This cast doesn't seem quite as manic as some recent ones. They seem to be a bit older overall so maybe that's why - and a good thing. I totally understand missing the paper on the sliced cheese. I did that once myself. Once. I actually thought the two men were the right choices at the end wrt possible potential but I was very surprised they were both chosen. I don't think Tiffany is one to put up with a lot of nonsense so she'll probably settle Serious down some. (Who names a kid Serious?! That has to be something he decided to call himself. Doesn't it?) It seems to me that Tiffany must have known what this show is like before she started but she's doing a great job of acting amused and astonished. I'm really enjoying her.
  14. I enjoyed it despite the over-abundance of commercials. I did find it a bit difficult to keep track of the scoring.
  15. She was supposedly dying of some kidney ailment back then but she's still around. She was on The Big Bake not too long ago. I loathed her so much that I was rooting for her team to lose. They did.
  16. I haven't liked Ashley since the first episode but I have to admit that she had the best cake at the end. Everyone else had issues and hers looked great. I wanted Kevin to win all along but I knew he wouldn't when I saw his cake. I wish I could taste it though. I'm very grateful that Justine didn't win. Nancy is so obnoxious. She and Duff seem to be friends so I guess we're stuck with her.
  17. Both teams did a good job but the elf house did need more contrast. I actually liked the houseboat better so I was glad that team won. I also liked the team members on that one. They worked well together all season without bickering. I liked the man on the other team but not the women so I wasn't sorry they lost.
  18. LOL I was thinking exactly the same thing. I will never understand why Gordon encourages disrespectful behavior. He's old enough to be a grandfather but he allows the kids to scream and yell and call him by his first name instead of Chef and stages stunts like letting them smash pies in his face. On the main show, he dumps food on their heads. So funny. Not. It's probably not real food but it looks like food waste. I just cringe. Last night on HK, he started and participated in a food fight in the kitchen area. Not amusing. I thought that expecting the kids to add a cookie twist with 30 minutes to go was unreasonable at first. However, after watching them, I'm pretty sure they were all given basic cookie dough already prepared and all they had to do was jazz it up and bake - sort of like the girl in the finale who made deviled eggs with eggs that were already cooked and peeled. :) I didn't care for the personalities of either of the girls in the finale so I was rooting for Elijah. All the final dishes were underwhelming.
  19. I've often wondered about the timing - what we see vs. what really happened. One thing I've noticed many times going all the way back to Cake Wars is someone taking something out of the oven and then, apparently a minute later, handling the hot pan or the cake layer or whatever with bare hands. No way. I've also wondered about the sheer number of cookies some of these people claim to make. Many of the displays of what they've made at home are beautiful and must have taken hours. I don't think you can crank out elaborate designs by the dozen in a short time.
  20. I agree but I was very sorry that Javier made that mistake. I had him figured for a finalist along with Kevin and (ugh) Justine. Interestingly, the local paper this morning featured a recipe for a pull apart tree - with twisted branches. Justine is going to win this isn't she? She gets more annoying every week and the judges don't seem to notice how much she's sucking up to them. She acts like they're her good buddies and they seem to like it. Jesse did seem off this week, especially with his comments to Javier about immigrating. In his defense, the producers probably assigned him to do that - but it came across very awkward and not really comparable. Asking people how they felt about not being chosen was awkward too. Maybe I misunderstood something but ...................... Kevin got a bit choked up when Jesse asked him about his kids. The family picture (which I saw for just a second) seemed to have just his son in it. Then he said something like "This is for you" with a name I didn't catch. Did something happen to a second child?
  21. I was sad to see them go too because I really liked the young guy in the glasses. I can't argue with the decision though. Their concept was interesting but it wasn't executed well and they had too much empty space. The dark tree was ugly. I think the remaining two teams are pretty evenly matched so I'll be OK with either winning.
  22. I think Ree and Eddie have to find something negative to say about everyone's cookies to keep a little suspense about the final decision. I thought Joseph was the clear winner. The woman with the camper that was missing its front and back had great side panels. She would have been a serious contender if she had finished. The third camper was kind of a mess.
  23. I thought the display with the penguins was a distant third place but the other two were outstanding. It was a shame one had to lose. The Diwali tree was gorgeous and I was very happy for that team. They were well organized and their detail work was impressive.
  24. I don't either and I hoped she'd be eliminated followed by Justine - which I doubt will happen. For some reason I don't get, the judges seem invested in Justine. I think she's way too perky and aware that she's on TV. The judges nitpicked most of the other desserts but went into OTT raptures about Justine's flavors and didn't even mention her messy display. I was astonished when they gave her the win. I'll be glad to see Duff back next week. Nancy is not objective and it galled me to see her with 50% of the "power." I loved Josh and hated to see him leave. I never thought he'd win but I enjoyed him and his great smile. The poor guy was crying when he left. :(
  25. Thanks, Grizzly. I wasn't sorry to see the all-women team go but I couldn't remember which display was theirs. I liked the other teams better anyway.
