  1. If it were up to me, the Russians would not be able to compete in the Team Event. How can they be a team when your country has been (officially) banned from the olympics. It is pretty clear that many, many people dope, both in ice skating and other sports from all countries. I think the IOC needs to be stricter, but I am guessing many backroom deals are made. I need to watch Icarus....

I think the USAG would look terrible if they left Simone off the roster because she didn't go to the ranch. USAG will be forced to make changes as long as people keep making noise (and good for Aly leading the way!) Is Liukin the head coach now? I think he would welcome the good will he would generate by moving the training camps.
  5. If they want to make a statement, I say they should wear black dresses to every award event this year.
  6. I saw a copy of "50 shades from Christian's perspective and/or prequel" at the airport and ran screaming from the bookstore. I truly, fervently hope that doesn't get adapted into a movie.
  7. How many Ice Dancing Teams can go to the Olympics for the USA?
  8. I cynically wonder if some of the US skaters will be (understandably) tired from the Olympics and withdraw from Worlds (like Yuna Kim did after she won her gold), leaving a spot (or two) for the alternates. The odds are against it, but I wonder nonetheless. Have they announced 4CC yet?
  9. Turn down for WHAT?? dies laughing and dancing
  10. She is the next best thing according to NBC, but I suspect she will come in 4th at best. Carolina Kostner always gets super high marks. But I am rooting for Mirai, the ShibSibs and Rippon. I root for Nathan too, but I don't think he needs it because I think he is a lock for Gold. :) I feel for Ashley. I think she was underscored, and I think she has a right to be pissed off, but wish she was a little less vocal in the press. If she had been scored a little more fairly, I think she would be less angry. I think the behind the scenes people pretty much assured her a spot (I am cynical about politics in the skating world). I wish she could go to 4 continents and win, just for herself. But that is unlikely.
  11. I don't know WHY one of the Blue Brothers didn't die. At least one of them should have bit the bullet, I think.
  12. /small voice: I care about the team event.
  13. Lucifer needs to play more piano and sing in 2018. Make it so, Fox TV.
  14. Maybe we should call them the Iron Ovaries?? Or perhaps that's the name of some cool band. goes away to think some more/
  15. I caught the Torino pairs programs: the chinese couple that won silver after her scary scary fall was very impressive.
  16. I operate on the theory that in the Olympic year, whoever wins the gold at the Grand Prix final does not win the gold. Especially when the results are so close. I have no horse in the ice dancing race, but for excitment’s sake, I hope that somehow the Shibs get the silver. Any news on how Javier and Hanyu will look when we see them perform next? When they rewrite the rules, I hope they limit the backloading of jumps, hands over the head, and limit the number of quads, and start rewarding the spins and footwork sequences more. More artistic stuff, less jump jump jump in the last minute of the program.
  17. Steroids wouldn’t help a skater, but HGH would. It’s not detectable in a urine sample, only a blood test. HGH helps immensely with physical recovery time, sort of like how meldonium was so helpful to other skaters before it was banned (and it’s why it’s banned). I would suspect that many skaters use it, especially when they compete a lot during a season.
  18. I suspect that they'll allow the Russian Women figure skaters to compete individually, but that they won't skate in the Team Event. I have zero tolerance for doping; if it were up to me, I'd ban the Russians from the winter games. Yes it sucks for the clean athletes, but the fault lies with the country they compete for, not with IOC. Of course, the IOC needs to be very strict with the rules and not play favorites, as they are certainly guilty of that as well. The olympics may have gotten more interesting today.
