TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
Temperance replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I'm watching. I've enjoyed that this week they did some non-Trump segments. Sent Tuesday's (5/16/17) segment about flying cars to a friend who feels the same way. Showed it to other people. I also will point out they keep getting more serious guests and a lot more books/authors are discussed on the show. -
Sierra started out somewhat fundie or maybe very fundie and is converting to Duggar-level fundie. She is also a groupie, who will do grunt work for little if any pay (probably the Duggars don't pay, but TLC does since she appears on the show). She clearly thinks the Duggars are wonderful, amazing people and they love hearing how great they are and what an inspiration, etc. A friend of my friends (who remind me of the Duggars) had ovarian problems where she had a lot of systs. There were many problems with her ovaries to the extent they removed one while she was pregnant. She lost that baby (late-term) and had another one almost two years later. I don't remember all the details though. Not sure what's going with Sierra. The friends I mentioned are religious too.

S42.E20: Melissa McCarthy / Haim

One more thought I adore Kate McKinnon, but felt that sometimes she is in so much and had to do so much and I thought it was nice to see other people really get showcased in this episode. Also I liked the review from the AV Club. -

I love Debette sketches and this one was no exception, except I did wish that they had differentiated Gaye and Debette more. Given that Hollywood treats women differently by size maybe go that route? But maybe they didn't want to do that with Melissa. The lead stuff would have seemed far-fetched if I hadn't seen the Nightly Show's deep dive on lead. Rip Nightly show. I feel the approach was go hard as possible with the political stuff and then give sort-of soft and obvious humor to give us a rest. I liked Che as Holt. -

I love Cathy Anne! She is one of my favorites. I'm paraphrasing below, but she has been good this season. I loved it during the campaign when she said: "If you're not hanging out with any blacks, gays, mexicans or hispanics, then you're not having any fun! I loved it when she told everyone to get off the internet for few days and go outside including Trump. and then she said "I know he's watching." Tonight she was great especially calling out the House and making fun of McConnell. When did they refer to Blake and Ryan as the Livelys? Fewer short sketchs this week. I liked the animal one too! -
The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah

Jeremy is not WASPY. His ethnicity is at least partly Italian as is his last name. Italians are not "WASPS". (Not that there is anything wrong with not being WASPy, I don't consider myself WASPy.) WASP stands for White Anglo Saxon Prostestant. I don't know much about Jeremy but I don't know him to be particularly Anglo Saxon. -

I barely remember two of the guys that were on last night. I love Sam, John, Jon and Stephen, but wished they had also included Aasif and Jason to make 6. I appreciated Jon's crack about diversity. I also adored the cold open with Trevor. One of the highlights for me. I wish it had been included in the best of the last's episode. -

While 19 K &C was on the air, Josh was photographed holding a gun with another man. (The first gun photo of the Duggars.) Was that Jonathan? -
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that if you check the SNL story (here on Previouslytv) about the recent Chris Pine episode (5/6/17), they did a skit that was tribute to Ru Paul's drag race. (it's the mechanic skit). I know how much some of you love Ru Paul, so I wanted to let people know that it was there. Stay strong, @Arwen Evenstar!

Those bridemaids' outfits are funny and they always remind me of cartoon Jesus. Famous footwear, DSW, and payless are common enough around here in the northeast.

Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp

What's weird is that middle green shirt looks checkered and not flannel to me somehow. It looks odd, but if it makes them happy. Also the group photo in particular looks they could take the shirts off and take pictures with just the dresses. Maybe they don't wear the flannel the whole time. I also don't mind the idea of cowboy boots for a wedding. Northerner so I wouldn't do it, but they might be comfortable. The first dress Catlyn posted is gorgeous. -
The tabloids called a honeymoon baby, but she's been married close to 6 months and I find it hard to believe she could be that far along and they didn't tell everyone. How far along do you think she is (if she is)? (I have to admit that I tend to think Duggar women are usually pregnant based on the values and role models they were raised with.)

I loved Jessa's dress and she wore it the way it was designed.(I think she was barefoot as well). Only Jill had the modesty pieces and I don't think they will go there again. We talked about this before, but I tend to think her salary (from being on tv) goes into some kind of family trust. If so, she will have to plan a wedding with JB and Michelle holding the purse strings. I agree that since Austin grew up in the same world as Joy his parents won't be much help. Jessa's wedding and even more so Jill's wedding reflected the way their parents wanted the wedding. (Since it costs money see above.) Jinger's probably bent more towards Vuolo sensibilities. This wedding will probably be more Duggar. -

Austin is 22 and was 21 when he started dating. Ben was 17 when they met and married at 19. Both these boys had never really lived away from home except that Ben lived in the Duggars' pool house. -

I think like a lot of people in America they are weight conscious. Anorexia (while dangerous , unhealthy, and ill-advised) is actually mainstream for them. One thing our generation is always worried about is the chin. However skinny and fertile doesn't always go together. People who are seriously over or underweight have more fertility issues. Guiliana Rancic was told (on her reality show) that gaining weight would help her chances of getting pregnant (right before she found out she had cancer). She didn't want to gain weight lest Hollywood think she is fat. Jinger was so skinny I wondered about that. Jill R takes that to the next level. -
@Arwen Evenstar My best wishes for you and your friends and family!

I like that she looks less orange in that picture. I don't think she necessarily needs highlights. I did notice Jana Marie on the name tag. Maybe it's her idea? It's possible she had to register using her full name and since her first name is short, the organizers included her middle name. -

I think that changed almost immediately. 1) I really believed she honestly believed that Josh would be able to support his family without their help. I think the father swooped in when he realised Josh and Anna needed more help. 2) She always needed the kids to do the show. It was 17 and counting back then, but the point was they were a family with a dozen and half kids. Then there's the fact she was pregnant with #18 and expected to have at least 3 or 4 more. When she stopped having kids, they needed those kids to show they were a huge family. As to who would walk first, maybe the three boys immediately after the twins. -
Bronson Alcott talked the same way about his daughters that Jill and Derrick talk about Israel. (I had book where they said when she was about 1 or 2 that her father complained she had "trouble controlling her impulses.) She actually had a pretty crazy background (for example they joined a very weird sect at one point where they were supposed to forage for food in the middle winter (didn't go very well)).

I see this more in the vein of the people on Shark Tank solving a problem nobody had thought to deal with. Basically marriage retreat is sometimes a kind of service that has marketing and money opportunities. You can sell books and pamphlets about improving marriage, you can host day seminars, and even hold weekend marriage retreats all of which you can charge for. Latin America may be new to these kinds of services, which makes it an untapped market.

Kind of. I looked it up yes, Ephesians chapter 5 has lines to the effect you mentioned. But it also has lines about wife's submitting and being obedient etc. I was thinking today that Amy was allowed to wear pants around the Duggars, even when they were at the most conservative. I bet the pants thing doesn't bother her parents as much as the fact she doesn't seem to be pregnant. Her parents may even like that everyone thinks her wearing pants is shocking (and getting her/and the show press) when in reality they don't care that much. (Now that she is married and on her own.)

I'm not southern, but I would image it's to do with weather. It probably goes back to when there was no air conditioning. Assuming the people could afford shoes they would probably get all sweaty and smelly etc. Shoes were expressive unlike today, and mostly leather. So hot sweaty leather shoes. It makes sense. Whatever the reasoning, I'm from the north and I find this interesting. @AUgirl Thank you for sharring your culture!
