As my uncle told us after his failed attempt, he thought he was leaving his family better off. He said that on that day, the darkness was so all enveloping and true rational thought was gone, he just needed to get out of the blackness and he thought the only way to do that was to take his own life. It's been years and lots of intense therapy and he still has hard days, weeks, but thankfully he's still here. -

He was one of those grand character actors, whose name you never knew, but who you always recognized. -

If Kris has commanded they figure out a way to have kids to improve ratings.....a kid or kids they will have. (dripping sarcasm) -

Kardea's twitter is pretty quiet. I did find it interesting that the one negative tweet I saw, she retweeted. Kind of makes you go hmmmmmm. -

Duff is one vote of three. All three of the judges should be held accountable. JMO. -
Spring Baking Championship - General Discussion

Totally disappointed with this season, Romy deserved so much better, but I don't think Duff can be blamed for not doing something. He isn't a producer on this show. He doesn't have the control/power to make those decisions. That being said he's the only judge I could tolerate. I ran hot and cold with Cardea and don't get me started on Nancy. Molly needs to go back to Minnesota, this hosting gig was not for her. -

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/david-birney-st-elsewhere-bridget-132926444.html I kind of remember Bridget Loves Bernie from when I was a kid, but I mostly remember him from multiple guest appearances and St. Elsewhere. While I thought he was a good actor, after reading some of Meredith Birney's statements about that marriage, I didn't really care for him much as a man. -
What a fascinating and heartbreaking documentary. I commend this man for his bravery, steadfastness and desire to help his country and his family for their unwavering support. It just reinforces exactly how diabolical Putin is. The detailed plan for his poisoning was amazing to hear, especially from one of the participants. I do fear that Putin has killed that particular individual in that he hasn't been seen in years.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Any of the 50 gazillion Medicare commercials. 50% of the Geico commercials. Limu is starting to wear out his welcome, too. -
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave. Keeps your interest and a pretty quick read.

The person who has gotten lost in this to some extent is Ahmir Thompson, who received his award immediately after the slap. The poor man received an academy award and I don't know how many people noticed. Everyone was trying to console poor Will at the ceremony and I'll bet those watching at home were saying "did you see that" and discussing Smith and Rock. As Jim Carrey said, no matter what the category, all of these people work extremely hard in order to even receive a nomination, let alone win and then the win is overwhelmed by the actions of others. May bet is the academy suspends Smith for a year at the most.

Sorry my information was wrong, don't want to create confusion. I'll be more careful with my responses in the future.

Interracial marriage didn't become legal in New York state until the 40's and the entirety of the US in 1967. My guess, Peggy's father believed the man was beneath his daughter, being uneducated and his employee.

I agree with this. I've never been a big fan of Nathan Lane on screen, but have seen him on stage multiple times and adore him in that arena. He's one of those actors that has a hard time making the adjustment from being big so the back row can hear you to pulling back so you don't overwhelm the screen. It's a whole different presence. Like Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon also makes the transition very well.

Turner had previously worked for a woman who was "old money", until she died. I think that may have been the reason Bertha hired her. Turner knows the ropes, but it's clear there's an intense jealousy and honestly, I think it's as simple as Bertha has what Turner wants and Turner believes she deserves Bertha's life.

Early on when George asked her about seeing their old friends, Bertha was honest when she said "I want new friends". Bertha is unabashedly a social climber. I have no doubt she has left a trail of forgotten friendships with each wrung of the ladder she's gone up. I also have little doubt that she will be looking for a titled gentleman for Gladys, it helps Bertha continue to climb, but at the moment, Gladys has not had her proper coming out, so she's basically off limits.

This peaked my curiosity, so I went fishing. There weren't student loans available (except for Harvard, which started loaning money somewhere in 1840). The department of education didn't exist until 1867 and federal student loans didn't come into being until 1958. These were 99% sons of rich, white men. Honestly, if I had been Peggy, I just might have slapped Marion up side the head. Marion truly can't be that dumb or myopic, can she? George Russell is a clearly man in love with his wife and Mrs. Turner is just creepy.

As a rabid Sopranos fan, this was my favorite commercial last night.
-
Another favorite is for Dish, I believe. Husband is searching all around for his glasses, which are on his head and wife, with the best facial expression says "oh, they're around here somewhere". She cracks me up with the subtle, bemused expression and response.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

The thyroid eye condition commercial. 7 or 8 times per program per channel. It's ridiculous. I'm glad the pretty lady got some help, but I don't need to hear about it over and over and over again.
