  1. I had been saving the finale to watch at the right moment. (I think that I really did not want to be done with the show.) Loved it - although I could have done without David's "happy ending". Thrilled that all of the townspeople were included - especially Ronnie, whose hatred of Patrick will never be old for me, and Ray. Teared up as the wedding started and did not stop until the show ended. The sign! Perfect and brilliant. Such personal development and growth from all of the Roses - and Stevie. The themes of acceptance, love, tolerance, friendship are really needed now. I hope that the show cleans up at the Emmy's. Going to start a re-watch.
  2. Finished Season 3 of Unforgotten. Excellent series. For me, ranks up there with No Offence, Vera, Balthazar, Shetland and Trapped as my favorite foreign mystery shows. The acting and story were great. I particularly liked that, unlike so many other shows, there was almost no depiction of violence. I did not have to cover my eyes during any gory stuff. ETA: Started watching River last night on Amazon Prime. Unusual British police drama - 1 season, 6 episodes. Well done so far.
  3. Halfway through a binge of Season 1 on Amazon Prime. Fabulous show so far. The two detectives are terrific and I love how the 4 stories of the potential suspects wind throughout. ETA: I thought that Season 1 was excellent. I really liked Beth's redemption story. I'm still not sure that I buy Claire as the killer but I can live with it. Really did not like her son's horrible tormenting of her in the care home. Started Season 2 last evening. I like how they seem to be following the same formula: we are shown a cold case together with 4 seemingly unconnected - and interesting - people who will ultimately be involved with the dead person. Cassie and Sunny are terrific, as usual, and I enjoyed seeing some of the cops (especially Murray) from Season 1. ETA: Finished Season 2. Terrific... Even better than Season 1. Loved seeing Holly Aird and Mark Bonnar. Mark Bonnar blew me away in his final scenes with Cassie.
  4. Started watching Mystery Road on Acorn. Set in the Outback. 2 missing teen boys. Judy Davis as the Senior police officer. ETA: Finished Mystery Road. Quite good. Looking forward to Season 2 which should be out on Acorn this year. Am in the middle of Season 1 of Unforgotten on Amazon Prime. I'm not sure how I missed this one before. It is excellent so far. Male/female detectives on the trail of a 40 year old cold case. Highly recommended so far.
  5. Finished Season 3 - did not like it nearly as much as Seasons 1 and 2. I agree with Scrb in that the villains were not believable at causing the kind of technologically adept mayhem - the video with the Doughnut Man's girlfriend, the gas in the truck, etc... The villains in Seasons 1 and 2 were more of the criminal mastermind types; these two were not nearly in that league. Clearly a lot of time passed between Seasons 2 and 3 given the age of the daughter who was now living with Karl. I would have liked to have known why Karl and Laura finally separated. I did like BB and Louise - as well as seeing the new Commander leave his job. I kept hoping that Elise somehow managed to survive and was not obliterated.
  6. Coroner, the Canadian series, premieres tonight on the CW. ETA: Finished Season 3 (final one) of The Tunnel. Not as good as Seasons 1 and 2. Now looking for the next binge. ETA: Have now watched first episode of Hinterland (which I liked and will continue), the first few episodes of Sommerdahl (which I also liked but had a bit too much focus on their marital issues), and the first two episodes of Murdoch Mysteries (which reminds me a bit of Frankie Drake Mysteries perhaps because it is also set in Toronto). I can see binge watching Murdoch while also continuing with the other two shows. I was disappointed in the first episode of Coroner.
  7. Finished Shetland - excellent! Looking forward to Season 6. Very similar to Vera in a lot of ways. I'd like to find another series similar to these two. Watched first episode of Grantchester. It was a bit slow. Watched first episode of Fortitude - not for me. Going to try the new Harlan Coben mystery, The Woods, as well as The Doctor Blake Mysteries. ETA: did not like The Woods. I quit midway thru the first episode. Now starting The Tunnel. Binged The Tunnel all weekend. Quite good. Now starting the sequel The Tunnel Sabotage.
  8. So funny....I had exactly the same question! All of a sudden - a new diner set. I'd like to know more about Flo's family in Season 4. We've see Frankie and Trudy's mothers and know about Mary's dad, the policeman.
  9. Just started watching Shetland. I love Vera so I figured that I would enjoy this too. I watched the two episodes of Season 1 and just finished Raven Black from Season 2. Quite good. I like the atmospheric mood and the beautiful scenery. Also appreciate that, so far, the violence isn't particularly gruesome. The relationship between Perez, his stepdaughter and his stepdaughter's biological father is quite interesting. Just finished Season 3. I was surprised that there wasn't any resolution between Rhona and Phyllis once the latter was arrested. I thought the Tosh rape storyline was well done. The biggest character growth is Sandy who, in Season 1, was a uniformed cop with limited skills. Beginning in Season 2, he has been shown to be a DC with serious computer and tracking skills.
  10. I agree with you regarding parts of Season 4. I love the show - particularly Appa and Umma - but I found myself more annoyed at Shannon than previously. I'm not sure that I love Shannon/Jung. I could not stand Chelsea so hopefully she is gone for good. I really enjoy the scenes in the Convenience Store with the various customers and even with Janet. Not as cracked about the Car Rental scenes - although I do love Kimchee and Terrence.
  11. Finally finished Season 3 and eagerly looking forward to Season 4. I liked how they resolved Flo's dilemma. Also liked how the Team brought Mildred and Nora to Miami with them for vacation. Mary has made real progress as a detective; would like to see her make progress within the police department next season. The show is the perfect easy escape from the current world craziness.
  12. I liked it too. I think that there is a Season 2 coming soon. I finished 3 seasons of Frankie Drake Mysteries last night. Fun, easy show which is perfect for the current world craziness. ETA: Finished Season 1 of Marcella last night. It was okay - the resolution of the mystery was good but the heroine (Marcella) is a bit too unlikable for me. I think I will skip the next two seasons and find another mystery to binge. ETA: Started Shetland last night. Watched the first 2-part mystery and am all in.
  13. Just finished the first episode of Season 3. I don't mind the blonde hair but the cut is very distracting. I liked Agatha but having Frankie separated from the other 3 women for almost all of the show was not helpful. Just watched the episode where the team were assisted by a young student at a girls school. Quite good - especially the use of Flo as a role model. I also particularly like Trudy's mother - perhaps because the actress was in Schitt's Creek? The funeral home scene in the episode where Trudy faked her death was very good. Mildred has come a long way in her acceptance of Trudy's job.
  14. Just started watching season 1 and was thrilled to see Chelsea from Kim's Convenience in episode 2 as the maid. Also Ronnie from Schitt's Creek playing Trudy's mother. Great casting.
  15. I started watching seasons 1 and 2 of Frankie Drake Mysteries which are available now on Amazon Prime for free until 7/31. (Previously they were only for purchase on Amazon. I had found season 3 on Ovation for free but wanted to start at the beginning.)
  16. I've been trying to find Forbrydelsen (the original Danish version of The Killing) as well as Bron/Broen (The Bridge) for free on any of the streaming services. No luck. Anyone been able to find them?
  17. I agree about Wilkes. He used to be my favorite character because he was bumbling and funny. Now he is just annoying. He outranks Bill.
  18. Just finished Season 3 of Bordertown. Hoping for Season 4. Quite an interesting main character. Going to start Season 2 of Deadwind and then move on to Marcella, which came highly recommended.
  19. I just started watching. Finished the Season 1 series; I have to admit that I had to FF through most of the serial killer violence parts. Too gruesome/dark for me. I really like how dedicated Cardinal is to his wife.
  20. Season 2 of Deadwind drops on Netflix on July 1. ETA: I started Cardinal last evening. It is on Hulu and stars Billy Campbell as a Canadian detective on the trail of a serial killer. There are 4 seasons. I have two episodes remaining in Season 2 of Bordertown. Except for the occasionally dark murder, I am really watching the characters grow and interact with each other.
  21. I tried Episode 1 of Wallander last night when I took a break from Bordertown. I couldn't get into it. Stopped about 3/4 through.
  22. I loved Trapped and really enjoyed The Valhalla Murders. I have to FF through a few scenes on Bordertown because holding girls captive is not a good storyline for me. I do like the characters on Bordertown and am sticking with it to see where they go. For something less dark but still quite good, I can recommend Balthazar - which I found thanks to a recommendation here. Good blend of humor, mystery and medium dark.
  23. I am in the middle of Season 1 of Bordertown - a police drama set in Finland. The protagonist is a genius detective with Sherlock-type abilities to figure out clues that nobody else can put together. So far, it's been almost too dark for me but I'll keep going.
