  1. For me, it was the opposite. I liked Sif in the first film, but she didn't outshine Portman to me, and she wasn't supposed to; they're entirely different personalities. I didn't see Jane as being limp or muddled at all, and she was plenty assertive in her own right. I thought she hit a great balance between the excitement of meeting an alien vs. the pragmatic scientist she was. I would have loved to see Jane and Sif actually having a conversation or hanging out without the cloud of the stupid love triangle in the way. The majority of the complaints I have heard was that Jane was in the way of the more-natural Thor/Sif pairing, since that followed the mythology, and Sif was more popular. And Branagh confirmed that Sif did have feelings for Thor in the first one, (although it was far too subtle to make any kind of dent) so that only fed into the hype. I guess what bothers me is that even if Thor and Jane didn't have any chemistry, that doesn't mean Thor and Sif automatically do. Portman didn't have a problem with playing Jane, she was upset because Patty Jenkins was supposed to direct the sequel and pulled out or was fired. The details aren't 100%, but Portman was pissed. I'm thinking that the lukewarm reception towards Jane in addition to the switch in directors were why she wanted out. But it didn't matter, she was contractually bound, and she was pretty vocal about that, too.
  2. For the most part, I agree. I actually like Sif, but the constant Jane hate in favor of Sif has really put a damper on that for me. I don't think Thor and Sif have any more chemistry than Thor and Jane, because Thor has made it clear that he has no romantic interest in Sif at all. They're not following the comics right now where Thor and Sif are together. There haven't been any implications that he sees her as something more, and any scenes of a love triangle in the sequel was ditched for time. Although I am not complaining about that. Love triangles are such a tired trope, and I would rather see Jane and Sif on the same side instead of fighting over a guy. I would find it annoying if Thor ends up with Sif, because again, there's been nothing that implies he feels that way for her. And Thor has been in three films now, and Jane is the only one he's pined for. I think one reason Jane gets all the hatred is because Natalie Portman was so vocal about not wanting to return to the franchise, and that soured a lot of viewers on the character. But I like her and Thor together; they're a sweet couple. I do think that Jane was more impressive in the first film, though. I can appreciate that in the midst of the craziness, Jane is still a brilliant scientist who was trying to get shit done. In the sequel, she's completely reliant on Thor and is in damsel-in-distress mode for most of the film. I would have liked to see her getting acclimated to Asgard, but again, stuff was cut for time. They could have added on an additional 30 minutes to the sequel and it would have helped immensely. Give Jane something to do, flesh out Malekith more, etc. TDW is actually the shortest Marvel film to date, and it shows in the editing and cuts. Here's hoping for a director's cut.
  3. I missed the first segment, but I loved the second and third. Seeing the people from Burning Man (as opposed to Birmingham, AL) was hilarious. And she ended it perfectly: "How are you, cup?" Sometimes the drunken parts are funnier than the segment itself. EDIT: Just saw the whole episode. Jordan was fantastic as Julian. Allan MacLeod should always narrate, and Amber Ruffin was a hilarious drunk. I hope she makes another appearance. "I'm sorry for burping, but I'm not sorry!" Still cracking up.
  4. I knew Tara wasn't going to be the only death in the cast since this is the last year, so that's not surprising. But hooking Eric up with some random chick and claiming she's the love of his life? More forced fake romance. Give me a break.
  5. Hell, even a basic UV lamp would help.
  6. Let's hope so. Hearing him tell Eric that he was crazy about Violet was really depressing. It's less like a relationship and more like Stockholm Syndrome.
  7. I think the writers are trying to humanize them. Until now, we've seen the Hep-V crew as monsters killing the innocents, so they're saying that some of them are just scared and desperate, like Betty Harris. They know they're dying, but at least they don't have to die hungry. I agree; why don't the townspeople just leave? They have at least 10 hours of daylight, it's plenty of time to escape.
  8. The whole plot in St. Alice was so boring. They could have just driven through the town to confirm everyone was gone, not do an intensive search. FFd through the diary scene. Pity that Jason and Eric had more chemistry than Eric and Sookie did in their romance a few seasons ago. Total fanservice, but I don't care. Why are we seeing more of the supporting characters than the main ones? But no Violet, so...yay? Eric being infected truly sucks. Is he suicidal or did it happen by accident? I'm thinking Tara is trying to warn the people of Bon Temps about the Hep V vampires through Lettie Mae. There has to be a point to this.
  9. While I think Grimes was hotter, Nathan has good chemistry with Lafayette, and that's important if they're going to hook up. What doesn't make sense to me re: Grimes departure is that anyone who's seen True Blood knows that the vampires have always been sexually fluid, and that most of the relationships don't last longer a season. Even Bill has been involved in a same sex fantasy scene. Can he really say he didn't know what went on this show?
  10. Silver Linings Playbook. After seeing it, I couldn't imagine why this was getting all the awards. Co-sign on Frozen. It was just OK.
  11. The Kevin Hart one really is baffling. It sounds like a commercial an athlete would do for Gatorade.
  12. How funny would it have been if Emma walked into the room while Sam and Nicole were getting busy? "Hey Sam, maybe we can pick up my mom's body later...hey, why are you on top of that lady?" In all seriousness, I wasn't a fan of Luna either, but this is flat out gross and disrespectful. Plus, Sam playing happy family with a woman he literally just met makes his whole plot for the last two years to be a complete waste of time. I've seen soap opera characters with a slower turnaround. They can spin Sam/Nicole into some "true love" pairing all they want, but it's crap and they know it. Just call it what it is: some grief sex/one night stand that ended up in a pregnancy. I'm thinking that the writers knew TBs days were numbered and scrambled to give Sam a happy ending. You know who he could have been happy with? Tara. I'm just sayin'. LOL! Maybe shifter babies have quicker gestation periods? Six months could be like nine months to them. But this is True Blood, where logic is nonexistent, so the baby just might be big. I didn't really see Nicole's stomach. Maybe she's carrying high. That can make a baby look bigger.
  13. Yeah, I didn't want to say it, but I was definitely getting post-mortem vibes. I hope that's not the case.
  14. I was surprised that I actually liked it. Yes, they used "world" way too many times, but they kept the nostalgia to a minimum, and made it very clear that this is about Riley, not Cory. Rowan did an amazing job as "Cory jr." basically. Maya was good, but that girl does not look 12, more like 15, and the kid playing Lucas looks too old as well. But they acted fine, they just don't look like young kids. Farkle was annoying as hell. That kid was amped and needs to bring it down. While their brownstone looked really pretty, I was glad to see that it didn't look enormous and unrealistic like most tv homes. Wish they would ditch the laugh track. Felt really out of place. Loved the last scene with Feeny. Talk about passing the torch. Can't wait for Shawn to show up.
  15. I'm fine with Sookie and Bill ending up together. I actually like them together. Frankly, at this point, I can't see her with anyone else. They completely botched the romance with Eric and any chemistry between him and Sookie has been lost. I really don't care one way or the other about Alcide, but they don't have much chemistry either. I'm also thinking that Sookie is going be turned, finally. Because seriously, there's nowhere else they can go from here. As it is, they can't have any children, regardless of her being mortal or not. And although Bill can actually commit to a relationship (unlike all the other vampires) he will still outlive Sookie if she remains a mortal. They've been tap-dancing with this since the beginning, and now that we're at the end, they may as well make Sookie a vampire and be done with it. Unless her fae blood means they can't turn her, but they never mentioned that. If Hoyt returns, I'm thinking he might be turned as well. Not for cruelty, but because it looks like James and Lafayette are hooking up, and it would be an strange sort of unity to have Hoyt and Jessica back together and finally able to understand each other on a vampire wavelength. I love Hoyt, so I'm hoping that his return will be nice. No more fairies, werewolves, or werepanthers. Ever. Even though the werepanther plot was poorly resolved (shouldn't Jason have at least a dozen wolf cubs by now?) it was so terrible that I'm willing to forget it even happened. Eric and Pam have been so weird the past two years, I'm just hoping neither of them gets staked. That's pretty much it.
  16. Sookie reminds me of Claire Bennett from Heroes and Skye from Agents of SHIELD. She's special because her blood and abilities make her so, not because she's a fascinating person. These characters are supposedly so wonderful, so important that people will literally kill to save them (although Skye has improved). And for some reason, the writers make these special snowflakes the focal point of the show, and then wonder why viewers don't want to watch them. Pretty sure there's a trope for this. Long time ago (season two, I think) Sookie and Bill were talking about what their life could be like if they left the town to start somewhere fresh. Bill wanted to be an elementary school teacher, and Sookie wanted to go to college. I was thinking "And do what?" Even now, she has zero interest of the outside world beyond Bon Temps and she's shown no inclination in leaving, even as she whines that she's sick of vampires. Considering that Godric has made several appearances since he met the true death, I'm thinking the writers were kicking themselves for killing him off so soon. Sam and Tara were the best pairing that never happened. It makes no sense why the writers decided to end it. Such great chemistry and they actually made sense. However, Sam hooking up with Nicole (Jurnee Smollett) has to be one of the worst pairings in the history of the show. We knew it was going to happen, but Luna hadn't been dead a full day before they shacked up. And Nicole got pregnant, to boot. Even for True Blood standards, this hookup was tasteless and tacky. Much as I like Jurnee, I was hoping Nicole would get killed off in the premiere.
  17. Another one: that Woolite commercial with the clothes literally being tortured on some desolate farm. Those poor clothes!
  18. I'm glad that Jessica and Adylyn aren't hooking up. Not all chemistry is romantic, and they work great as friends. They tried that with Pam and Tara, who were slowly building up a great mother/daughter relationship and they had no romantic chemistry at all, yet we were supposed to believe they were in love. I never bought them as a couple. Lafayette being a medium means that just about any dead character can return as a spirit through him, and I'm thinking that's what Tara is going to do. But the fact that they confirmed Tara's death without Pam or Eric having any knowledge of it is garbage. Tara deserved better than a weak, off-screen death. Terry had a whole town mourning over him, and Tara doesn't even get a tear from her so-called best friend.
  19. LMAO! Again, I love that commercial, but these comments are killing me! I hate those kinds of commercials. There's just too many accidents caused by distracted driving, and they like to play it for laughs. Have you seen the one with the teenage boy staring at a teenage girl on the sidewalk, and the boy nearly crashed the car with him and his dad in it? I was hoping his dad would say "Ok, you clearly aren't ready to be driving, especially my car, which was expensive as hell. Learn how to stop rubbernecking and maybe I'll let you drive it."
  20. I definitely noticed that. Even when her grandmother Adele died, Sookie was hearing everyone's thoughts and was still openly grieving. But this time, she just kept going. At least Jessica shed some tears for Tara.
  21. This. The whole relationship with Cal is convenient, and he's too perfect to be convincing.
  22. Well, that was something. Even though what happened with the Hep V vamps wasn't Sookie's fault, she's so damn annoying that I can't feel bad for her. I'm assuming Tara isn't dead, because Pam should have sensed it in Morocco. And if she is dead, then that was a bullshit way to get rid of her, and even more bullshit with Pam not knowing about it. I'm already aggravated that Pam and Eric are separated from the rest of the show doing who knows what. I like Willa so I'm glad she didn't die. It's nice to see a character not lose themselves in hysteria. You know who could have died? Violet. Why is she still here, and why does Jason even want her? Also, Kristen looks great when they're not caking her face in makeup. The past two seasons, she was looking like Baby Jane. Let's keep this look for a while, writers. Assuming the wannabe mayor is the season's villain, because I was hoping that one of the Hep V vamps would finish him off.
  23. IA that the whole thing was too easy, especially with the pencil thing. That could have gone wrong pretty fast, or ended up in Rachel's leg or something, as opposed to her eye. But I'm glad it went down that way, because the finale last year was all about Kira, and I wasn't here for a repeat of that. Kira ended up being a small part in the grander scheme of the episode, and I was grateful for that. I also agree that while this episode was enjoyable, it didn't answer any questions, and they need to stop introducing plots and characters without any resolution for the old ones. Yes, everything is connected, but the plot is becoming more and more convoluted. I think the only finite stuff we got out of the finale was Duncan's death and Delphine's departure. And even that stuff isn't concrete, because we didn't actually see Duncan die, and Delphine will probably come back. This season was nowhere near as good as the first, and I'm hoping next year, they slow down and work with what they've got instead of introducing new characters and plots every week. Although with the introduction of the male clones, that possibility seems unlikely.
  24. Wow, I was losing my shit during this episode. Count me in the party that thought the male clone was Felix and that Cosima was actually dead. Glad to be wrong on both counts, but wow, Ari Millen really has his work cut out for him if he's playing a clone. That dance scene was everything. The clone bonding moments (plus with brother Felix) were desperately needed this season. Also glad that Felix wasn't poisoned by Rachel, he was just out of it. However, I wish they had killed off Rachel. As Marian said, Rachel was just one of the many who were after the clones, so it's not like there aren't any more enemies. After Rachel destroyed the bone marrow, I was fine with her getting a pencil in the brain. She'll be back next season, even more pissed off. I have a feeling that Paul and Mrs. S are going to hook up eventually. I prefer him with Sarah, but Mrs. S is still awesome. I just don't want them to kill him off. I didn't see Kira as healing Cosima, but rather Cosima having a near death experience, combined with the fear of never seeing Delphine again. At this point, Kira is basically invincible and brilliant, so adding 'healing hands' to her resume is a bit much. I'm ok with Delphine being gone because she's done too much stupid shit. Something tells me that when she does return (and she will, only death keeps people off this show) she'll be a badass.
  25. Ben Foster wasn't in Cold Mountain. Are you thinking of Charlie Hunnam? :) Foster is a great actor, though. I've liked him since Liberty Heights. He works a lot, but most of his films are indies and quick to VoD type stuff. I personally think he has the talent and the looks to work in mainstream, but the market is so oversaturated now. When Hollywood has their favorites, they push everyone else aside. Someone else who I always thought deserved better success is Giovanni Ribisi. Seeing him in Seth McFarlane's crap show Dads was just depressing. Ribisi was amazing in Boiler Room, which was vastly underrated. I know he was in Avatar, but he was a mustache twirling villain in that overrated mess. I just realized that McFarlane casts the same people in his shows/movies: Seth Green, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi, etc. Kind of like Adam Sandler.
