S01.E02: It's All Her Fault
Amethyst replied to Stinger97's topic in How To Get Away With Murder [V]
Man, I really want to like this show because of Viola Davis, but it's so over the top that I end up laughing or rolling my eyes through most of it. The bad guy couldn't have have just asked someone to lie down on the bed, he had to make a show of it. I still don't know any of the interns' names except for Wes. Would it kill Annalise to call them by their first names occasionally, instead of Mr and Ms? Viola's BF is hot. I remember him from The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and he was hot then! Paris Geller's look is too severe. The haircut, the clothes, none of it works on her at all. Someone mentioned that Viola might be having trouble walking on those heels and I agree. Looked like she was going to topple over tonight. Try kitten heels, Viola! Rebecca is Wes' neighbor, right? She's the one he met up with at the hotel? It's only week two, so it's still early. I wish they would tone it down a little. -
While it wasn't as funny as last week, I enjoyed it. The Morgan Freeman line had me cracking up, as well as Andre catching Dre in the act.

I thought that, too. Creel definitely brushed Raina's hand when he took the jewel from her. Since the waitress barely touched Creel's arm and we saw what happened to her, I figured Raina was a goner. And IA that Creel didn't want to hurt the waitress, which surprised me. I wouldn't mind seeing him again.

This was pretty boring. It feels like they wasted Hartley so Lance Hunter would have an emotional reason to join SHIELD. Although she's improved a lot, I don't buy Skye as a field agent fighting alongside May, but they really don't have any other options. I really don't care about what secrets Coulson is keeping from Skye because they spend so much time in cahoots anyway. On a positive note, glad Fitz and Mack are becoming friends. So Coulson's problem is an intense desire to...draw? Who's gonna fix that wall once he's done carving on it?

I hated the new sheriff too, but I think we're supposed to. Her motives are definitely sketchy; she seemed to be OK with doing ECT on Irving, even though she said she had no pleasure from it. Speaking of which, poor Irving. I was also screaming at the TV "Don't sign it!!!" So many props to Jenny. That couldn't have been easy to go back into a cell, but she did it for the greater good. Couldn't blame her for telling Abbie not to wait another 13 years to come back for her. I didn't mind Katrina this week, at least she was trying to do something. I do think that she's going to fall for Abraham against her better judgement, though.

Same here. And after seeing this, I have no desire to start watching them again. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great, either. Once the meta stuff died down, it just got boring. The Peter/Homer fight went on way too long, and was only saved by the Roger Smith appearance, IMO. I was expecting more to be going on with the other family, but it really was centered around Homer and Peter. Besides the movie bit, did Marge and Lois have anything to do? Even thought the Meg bashing is old by now, screw you Peter, for throwing away her saxophone. Poor Meg can't have anything.
-
"You've helped me find my smile" had me laughing so hard. I really need to watch this show more.
-
I thought the latter as well, but the show's creator (Pete Nowalk, Shonda is the producer) confirmed that Connor is definitely gay. I was also thrown because it looked like he was flirting with Michaela several times during the pilot.
-
No, I thought the same. I was expecting to see Prof. Keating waiting for them in the woods with a stopwatch.
-
I found the students to be pretty two dimensional and aggravating except for Wes. Anyone else think Bonnie (aka "Paris Geller") was having sex with Keating's husband? I'll give it a chance. Shonda's shows are usually a turn off for me because of the soapy nature, but Viola Davis and Alfred Enoch are too awesome for me not to tune in.

House Hunters International - General Discussion
Amethyst replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in House Hunters International
Anyone see the Bali episode? The girlfriend was so grating. She must have whined "It gets really hot in Bali and we need a pool" a dozen times. My thought was, when you're paying the rent, you can have a say. She wasn't moving in either, so it wasn't like she had to live without a pool on a daily basis. Girl, sit down. I was pleasantly surprised that he went with house #2, since I figured that the girlfriend's brother would pull some strings to get one of the more expensive rentals at a cheaper price. -
That part bugged me, too, but I think the show will approach that again. The writing is strong enough that they can discuss it realistically and honestly. I really enjoyed the pilot. It's funny and it has a lot of potential. The tour bus bit really had me cracking up

FWIW, I don't think Hartley (Lucy Lawless) is dead, and even if she is, she can still return. Coulson was dead for quite a while before he was revived, remember? I don't think they would pull a TAHITI situation (Coulson probably wouldn't allow it) but maybe they'll cyborg Hartley or use robotics, like her friend mentioned. Or whatever that alien artifact that she grabbed got into her bloodstream and will help to sustain her somehow. This is Marvel, they've pulled crazier stuff than this. Coulson said Simmons left because she felt she was impeding Fitz's recovery, so it doesn't sound like she just up and bailed on him. But I think she's working on something to bring his mental faculties back, something that is probably against protocol and no one else knows about, LOL. This wouldn't be SHIELD if there weren't plenty of secrets being kept.
-
IA, the reveal was puzzling at first. It would have been nice to know the real reason for the mission, but in the end, it wasn't about the quinjet, it was about Fitz not being mentally capable of creating the cloaking device they needed. In addition to Simmons being gone, that was the bombshell they wanted to drop on the audience. But the tone of the series seems to be darker now and I'm cool with that. Coulson's been so self-righteous, and I'm hoping that being the new Director will knock him down a peg by seeing what Fury dealt with on a daily basis. Fury takes a lot of heat for what he's done in the name of SHIELD, but no one actually wants his job because of the difficult choices he's had to make, like the one Coulson had to do tonight.
-
The twist with Fitz and Simmons was really sad. While I'm sure they will find a way to restore Fitz's mind to what it once was, it's depressing to see him this way, and Simmons isn't even there! Sucks for Agent Hartley, huh? Got her arm chopped off just to get in a car wreck moments later. Still, not a good idea to grab anything alien related without gloves on. Any idea on what was happening to her? Thought she was turning into a Frost Giant. I see you, Agent Carter! That was an awesome opening. Otherwise, it was good, but not great. They were cramming a lot in; Coulson being Director, Fitz's problems, Ward being locked up...etc. I felt they did a poor job of introducing Hartley and her crew, although I guess it doesn't mean much since two of them are dead. They need to make Triplett an official SHIELD member, though. So glad they didn't have a lot of Skye/Coulson stuff, because they ran that into the ground last year.

Good catch! I was relieved that Abbie didn't drink the water from Not!Crane, but I totally forgot about the cupcake in the opening scene. Although I do want to see Crane's birthday party, along with Abbie trying to teach him how to drive.
-
I was loving Abbie and Crane, all the hugs and "I'll come back for you" stuff. Jenny is awesome and kicks ass. Honestly forgot about Katrina until they showed her. Although I did LOL at the horseman walking around shirtless. Was thrilled to see John Cho again. If Selfie doesn't work out, maybe he can come back?

"Oh HELL No!" Movie Moments That Anger Up the Blood
Amethyst replied to Spartan Girl's topic in Everything Else About Movies
The whole movie is a mess, but the dinner scene in The Family Stone is just ire inducing. It's like watching an accident in slow motion. I just wanted Sarah Jessica Parker's character to have a Scarface moment and say "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, I'm out." to those arrogant, self-righteous bullies, including her spineless boyfriend.- 620 replies

Word to your whole post, Stafford. The chandelier stuff was so obviously staged. Did anyone else think the realtor didn't give a crap that they were on TV? She didn't crack any jokes, she rarely smiled. I wonder if she just didn't care, or if she was camera shy. This is the first time that I've heard someone say they would rather not have an en-suite bathroom. She can't just close the door when she's brushing her teeth?

The Annual Primetime Emmys - General Discussion
Amethyst replied to susannot's topic in The Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
Wish I'd known about this thread yesterday. This show was so boring. It just dragged. The jokes fell flat, there were no real surprises. Count me in with those who are sick of the same people winning over and over. Jim Parsons...ugh. Modern Family...double ugh. Jessica Lange for that AHS mess...no words. I was ok with Julia Louis-Dreyfus winning because hers is the only show I watched in that category, and this was Cranston's last year, so that was fine. Anyone but McConaughey. Fashion-wise, just meh. Lena Dunham looked awful. The hair, the dress, none of it worked. Sarah Paulson's wasn't much better. Was it Kate Walsh or Debra Messing who wore a peplum? Ugh. I have yet to see anyone successfully rock one. Peplums need to go away. But Uzo Aduba's dress? Gorgeous. The color, the way it drifted to the bottom? Now, that was a dress. She nailed it. Best one of the night, IMO. Awards shows have really gone downhill, so I was happy that Sarah Silverman won Best Variety Special. The others are just so dull. Stop making everything about you, Julia Roberts. Quit demanding hugs and sit your ass down. -
IA that it felt like a copout. Even though the possibility of Bill turning human was lame, everything in the finale was clearly leading up to that. Bill turning warm, Sookie hearing his thoughts, etc. Him dying after all that makes no sense. It's like the writers changed their minds at the very last minute. And Bill and Sookie have discussed kids maybe twice in the series. If anything, I've heard Bill go on more about his children with his Caroline than with Sookie. It's never been a focal point with her because they barely fleshed her out beyond who she was dating. Sookie had no interest in school, work, a family...yet they were hammering "Sookie must have a baby!" all throughout the finale, as if not being a mother was keeping her from living her life.
-
Yeah, I took Bill's message to Sookie was to stay away from vampires, not all supernatural creatures. She can still have babies and a normal life with a shifter, wolf, fairy, whatever. Plus, they can all walk in the daylight.

I gave myself the night to think it over, and I still can't muster up any sympathy for Sarah. If anything, she just made me angrier. Her speech at the carousel was it for me. Her callously asking Pam to turn her so she could replace Tara was bad enough but then she made it ten times worse. Sarah thinks becoming a vampire makes sense because she's a lousy human being, and vampires do bad things. But she doesn't believe that she actually deserves punishment. It's the ultimate delusion. The gravity of her actions seems to have finally caught up with her, but it rings hollow because she has no real regret for them. If she had been remorseful, then I would have been sympathetic to her fate. I was also surprised that we didn't get one last Tara appearance from the great beyond. I can't believe the really ended her plot like that. But we did get one from Adilyn, Arlene's new BF, and even Jane Bodehouse. What a joke.
-
The whole spiel was tacky. Sarah's cheesy grin on the NewBlood can, the hammy infomercial. That just didn't seem like Eric or Pam's style. That was weird. It seemed like the actress was either being dubbed by a higher pitched Rutina, or she was just trying to sound like Tara. Whatever it was, it definitely took me out of the scene.
-
Well that was...something. Was genuinely surprised that they killed Bill. Not seeing Sookie's husband felt like a cop-out, but I think Kierya's right; the viewers wouldn't have been happy no matter what, because the lead-up to it was such a bust. And wow, it took Sookie forever to finally kill Bill; once she decided to go through with it. I was pretty patient with Bill throughout this Hep-V plot, but it was shitty of him to ask Sookie to do the honors. That's just too much too ask of her. Even though she's never cared about her fairy light before, I'm glad Sookie took a stand and said no. And now that it's over, there really was no reason Bill couldn't have just walked outside into the sun if he wanted to die. It might have even been more poetic that way. Well, it was when Godric did it. I did laugh at most of the Thanksgiving party being coupled with a vampire. Lafayette, Hoyt, Arlene, even Jane Bodehouse. Why was she there, anyway? So Sarah ended up being a cash cow for Eric and Pam. Figured as much. That "I'll be a lesbian for you" and "I'm a bad person so I'll become a vampire, too!" nonsense earlier had me rolling my eyes. Wished Pam would have killed her right there. That woman was delusional to the very end. Now Eric and Pam are filthy rich because of the New Blood, but I guess the Yakuza aren't chasing them anymore. Such a pointless plotline since Eric and Pam just had to wipe them all out in one fell swoop. Why didn't they just do that earlier after Eric recovered? And Mr. Gus' other partners wouldn't be searching for him, despite him being the head of the freaking company? So half-assed. I'm glad that Eric and Pam made it out OK, but that ending was wack. Talk about going out with a whimper. It's clear that they were scrambling to tie up loose ends and the show suffered even more for it. The viewers suffered, too.
