Hired Friends: Whitney's Social Barnacles
John M replied to Toaster Strudel's topic in My Big Fat Fabulous Life
Yeah, that I do not understand. I get that there are some "traditional marriages" were spouses didn't spend an extraordinary amount of time together or were even sexual before marriage but that does not seem like Whitney. Oh how many relationships/marriages have exploded because two partners realize they don't like spending much time together, much less living together. And I have seen no indication that Chase genuinely seems to enjoy spending time around Whit, even as a friend, frankly he seems repulsed by even touching her. -

The Knot registry was almost certainly a product placement tie in, they did an "exclusive interview" with her after the engagement was announced, they were almost certainly going to do a Say Yes to The Dress! tie in, probably with a plus size bridal line that was product placement was well. In the Knot "exclusive" she says they only thing that had figured out was the venue, I'm guessing more product placement, some destination wedding event venue. For the right "celebrity" there can be good money in wedding product placement. I really think the plan was for them to actually get married, I just can't understand why they would think that such a horrible idea was a good plan. I dunno, maybe Chase was trying to gain fame by proposing to Whit and the whole thing just got out of hand. -

I was wondering the same thing, does he have like, clinical developmental delay issues? Like, he doesn't seem all there in the head, every conversation is like talking to a confused 12 year old. -

I'm interested in how they really live, the family seems upper middle class and dual income upper middle class households are a relatively new thing. We have a childless friend couple and her husband just, doesn't work, because she makes more than enough to provide generously for their lives and retirement. -

You can get one the same day if you have a legitimate emergency, I had to do this many years ago when I had a trip booked to China and realized about a week before I left that my passport was expired. I had to go to a completely different city (I already live in a major US city) and wait in passport office all day but it happened. -
Furthermore, if this was a real long term relationship, surely both parties would understand that taking social security early for it was FUCKING NUTS and figure out an alternative plan. As someone with a career in public service I know that money does not equal happiness but being able to pay for food and housing goes a long way in not being fucking miserable.

As I approach middle age as a man married to another man with my straight peers, it's really startling how different gay marriages seem to function compared to straight ones. There is so much gender baggage that just seem like pervasive baked in tension in hetrosexual relationships that just, don't have a gay relationship equivalent. I especially see it with my sister-in-law, who is almost a clone of my husband in temperment, struggle with her stereotypical straight husband aloofness to household duties and emotional care, there just seems to be so much more agreeable give and take in gay relationships across the board, from household chores to sexual desires.

I was just really taken aback by the suggestion that gay relationships would be an issue in Mexico, it a lot of ways it is much more progressive than the US as far LGBT rights go, it actually came off as ridiculous prejudice. Yeah, not everywhere is perfect in Mexico, but overall the US has a pretty appalling record on LGBT rights, even right now, I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in Mississippi. Puerto Vallarta is a world wide gay destination and Mexico City has a thriving gay village.

I believe at least Angela is a nurses assistant, basically a janitor that has little involvement in unsupervised direct patient care, they live delivery food or clean up human waste, it's a unskilled, barely above minimum wage job. -

OK, that clears a lot up because I always assumed that she roped in a gay friend of hers for drama. I mean, not to bi-erase, but that guy was clearly not straight and from what she said on this episode, he sounds about as bi as Stephanie from BT90Ds. -
I just feel I need to point out that Ash is very emotional, he really needs to get a better handle on his emotions.

He claimed to be an interior architect, which in California does not technically require a 4 year degree, he almost certainly has one to hold that job. California doesn't even technically require you to have a J.D. to join the bar and practice as an attorney, but for obvious reasons it is exceedingly rare. But I know plenty of people that hold 4 year degrees from accredited universities or even advanced degrees that are some of the dumbest people I have ever met, like, shockingly dumb and incompetent and also plenty of people in jobs that typically require a degree, even a specific degree, that don't have one so, who can say.

Darcy brings all of this on herself, including completely unrealistic expectations of a fairytale romance and then denies any culpability for the situations she finds herself in. Darcy needs therapy and medication, not to keep embarrassing herself on TV.
-
I have so many thoughts, the Steph's terrible friends, it looked like Darcy had put a lamp in her sofa after she put on that discount drag queen ice dancer costume, they are all wonderfully terrible... But what gives me the most joy overall is how every last one of them is a smug jerk about the terrible choices they have all made, they all deserve exactly what has happened to them and it is beautiful.

Cooking isn't even that hard! I never, ever, ever cooked, ever, before I moved in with my now husband and became default cook by virtue of our schedules. Now I cook 3-5 times a week. And even if Whit can't spend time away from doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to learn like the basics of basics of cooking, there are pre-made sauces, and spice packets, and meal kits, and Instapots and Rice Cookers, you can buy goddamn precooked frozen chicken breast, microwave it, boil some pasta and put some basil pesto and marinara sauce from a jar and have an Instagram worthy meal that you can claim you made yourself, even if making it from scratch is barely any more effort. The laziness and entitlement of this woman, you can make chicken breast in the oven, it takes like 4 ingredients and you can even line your bakeware with aluminium foil so there isn't even a mess to clean up, why would you say this you want to be fit lifestyle guru? Are you that dumb? Or, Whit in her crazy mind:

Is Buddy like, officially Whit's home health aide? Because the job description sounds identical.
-
I'm still trying to understand why she can't leave the house and thus needs Buddy to care for her, they have grocery delivery in Charlotte and don't tell me she doesn't know how to heat up a Lean Cuisine (lol, OK, heat up a giant frozen pizza). And Whit's obesity and I think she said she has high blood pressure as some point, puts her at higher risk, she is still not in a super high-risk group, at least not compared to someone with years of heavy drug and alcohol abuse. She should be limiting her name in public and wearing a mask, not becoming Bubble Woman.

So filming of her episode of My 600-Lbs Life has started, how exciting for her!

Basically everyone I know that could conceivably work from home, including myself, was sent home months ago. Remember, companies currently have no idea what their potential liability is if workers that could work from home aren't allowed to and contact COVID-19 at the workplace. I actually have a super essential job that wouldn't have ever been considered for work from home because of Rora, turns out they found a way for me to do so pretty quickly.

'My Big Fat Fabulous Life alum Whitney Thore and Ryan Andreas initially crossed paths on a dating app. Although they might have first connected from them both swiping right, they quickly realized a romance was not in the cards for them. Rather the pair discovered a mutual love of fitness was their common denominator." Anyone that believes a single word of that is an idiot.
-
Also Whit's personality is, not great. She doesn't understand boundaries, personal space, not to drop a subject that is causing strife, she doesn't seem to have an particular interests, she isn't nice to her friends, she is constantly attention seeking, she is controlling, she has poor hygiene, doesn't know how to dress appropriately, she doesn't seem very kind, doesn't understand compromise, I could go on an on.
-
No, they do not, they deserve to live their lives in a way that makes them happy and fulfilled, fat, thin, assigned the correct gender at birth, scared emotionally or physically, chasing "fabulousness" is a fraud that Whit sold her soul for. She should be disgusted with her very unfabulous, pathetic life and try and be better. Elizabeth Taylor wouldn't have been caught dead in that engagement ring.
-
Basically forced him to come out of the closet against his will because she would not shut up about him being borderline obsessed with her romantically and too embarrassed/shy/awkward to admit it. And that was a plot line for what, an entire season if not longer? Then we had the browbeating to get Buddy to admit that they had sex once. Honey you are almost 40 goddamn years old, we believe someone fucked you once, we don't care because is this fucking high school and your V-Card? I'm pretty sure everyone I know, thin, fat, single, married, conventionally attractive, not conventionally attractive that is over 30 damn years old has fucked someone before, many have children to prove it.

I'm just confused a what we are supposed to believe, that this was a whirlwind meant to be fairy tail romance for the ages, engaged in 6 months in Paris, when you know, you know, or this is a troubled up and down relationship from the start, driven by so much relationship drama and distance Chase couldn't manage not to stick his penis in another woman for 6 month. Whit just looks like an idiot either way. That or the whole thing was made up, which is just pathetic. You've backed yourself into a corner, which one is it, pathetic lovelorn idiot or pathetic liar?
