  1. Mulaney hasn't been canceled. It's still airing. But they just finished shooting 13 episodes, and Fox has reduced the episode order to 13, which is not a good sign. RE: Leslie Jones: I wonder what her trajectory will be...she could be huge for the show.
  2. Didn't know they go this far back...
  3. I was under the impression that the injury made Peyton change the way he approached the position. I mean, he is a totally different QB since the year off. So if he didn't lose that year, he might actually be not as good -- on the Colts.
  4. I think but am not totally sure that they repeated Bear City a billion times. Kind of like they'd occasionally do last season.
  5. I looked it up. When he hosted in October 1992, he danced in his opening monologue with Jan Hooks, who had left the show 2 seasons prior. I guess Hooks made lots of appearances. She played Hillary, even though Hillary wasn't really well known when she left the show in May 1991.
  6. Well, Nasim has nothing to do.... http://deadline.com/2014/10/mulaney-order-cut-13-episodes-fox-854490/
  7. They do 4 shows in a row occasionally. I remember they did it when the writer's strike ended in 2008. Also, looking at the schedule, they started with 4 shows in a row in fall 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saturday_Night_Live_episodes In fall 2012, they did 2 shows before taking a break.
  8. I (and others who know better) have predicted the end will be during May sweeps. That would be a year (and 1 month) after Dave's announcement. And it'll give Colbert the summer to fix the Ed Sullivan Theater and prep for his new gig.
  9. It was inevitable....but I'm wondering, wasn't Kimmel supposed to host at some point? Actually, his name was up there last year, before Ellen (his good friend) got the gig. (I'm a big Kimmel fan, but I can't imagine him ever hosting the Oscars.) One of the reasons NPH never hosted was because he was on a rival network. (But then again, so is Ellen, right?) With How I Met Your Mother over, NPH can be on ABC.
  10. Okay, who was the new announcer guy? That was weird, yet kind of cool. Here is Dave in 2000 after returning from heart surgery: "My favorite band playing my favorite song..."
  11. I really wonder about her competition. Was it her looks that got her over the top?
  12. For those who don't remember, this was Chris Rock's cold open from 2007. https://screen.yahoo.com/chris-rock-open-000000182.html
  13. When Prince last did SNL, Fred Armisen also did his "Prince Show" sketch, which didn't feature Prince. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XY5CxoGdrk
  14. 1. Hell yeah, I'm glad Rock is hosting, but are they going overboard with SNL alum hosts? (3 of 5)...and if you count people who've auditioned for SNL (4 of 5). 2. But maybe it's appropriate to have a lot of SNL alums hosting in the 40th season. 3. At least it's SNL alums who aren't your usual hosts.
  15. Let's start the "When will Fred take the next night off?" pool. I bet he doesn't last through the rest of October. Speaking of which, why is Seth spending his weekends performing in Vegas. Why doesn't he just stay home and relax and watch his Northwestern team?
  16. Yeah, but the ratings were an all-time low in the 18-49 demo. It's annoying that headlines don't convey that. It's always "the lowest-rated episode ever." I'm pretty sure that Nielsen hasn't been measuring the 18-49 demo for most of SNL's run. Yeah, demo ratings are most important, but when people see those headlines, they think of total viewership.
  17. Wow! That was an awesome vintage episode! I was watching SNL at the time, but I was in elementary school, so I have vague memories. The only annoying thing is they did 2 B-52 musical performances. Why not sub 1 out for a Weekend Update or another sketch? I don't mind having 1 musical performance in these old episodes, but 2 is too much. The focus should be in the cast. Besides, the first B-52s song wasn't even Love Shack, or a hit. Yes, the tribute to Jan was great. I am awestruck at how beautiful she was.
  18. Howard Stern told Bill Hader earlier in the week that the Puppet sketch was his favorite of all time, and begged him to bring it back. Hader said he'll try to get it on... Here's the direct link to that portion of the interview. (For those who don't know, Howard Stern used to trash SNL back in the 90s. He even had his own CBS show that went up against SNL. But over the past decade, he's become friends with Lorne. And sometimes they go out to dinner. So Howard is influential.) Also:
  19. Thanks, vb68. That was terrific and touching. Here are some articles. The New Yorker has a great appreciation: http://www.newyorker.com/culture/sarah-larson/jan-hooks-1957-2014-appreciation Kevin Nealon penned a piece for Time: http://time.com/3491489/kevin-nealon-jan-hooks/ And Time's TV critic says Hooks had a special talent as a live performer: http://time.com/3490022/jan-hooks-dead-remembrance/
  20. Maybe you've seen this, maybe you haven't... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDRdM_Ezwsc
  21. I have a feeling that's all we're going to get. I mean, Pardo was a huge part of the show and got that. I can't imagine Jan Hooks getting anything more. In other news....
  22. I don't think the league can get away with the pay to play scheme. The number of acts that are perfect for the Super Bowl are too limited. The finalists were reportedly Coldplay and Rihanna. But Rihanna hates the NFL right now after the Thursday Night Football deal. And picking Coldplay would be like Apple picking U2 to promote its products in 2014.
  23. Click here to listen to Kevin Nealon talk about dating Jan Hooks when they both audtioned for SNL..
  24. I'm not a really huge Fallon fan, but seeing her on his couch expressing appreciation for him really warmed my heart.
