  1. Wow. I can't imagine Hader hosting SNL and not doing his signature character. But I also can't imagine him doing it without Seth. But I also can't imagine Seth returning with Stefon when there are already 2 male Weekend Update hosts. Anyway, Hader was on Howard Stern Tuesday, and Stern tried to get him to revive his (Stern's) favorite sketch, the Vietnam veterans' puppets one. So maybe we'll get that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=comdwuZPjiI
  2. The plagiarism accusations just hit the media a few hours ago...SNL didn't put the sketch online Saturday night/Sunday morning.
  3. Thoughts on this? http://defamer.gawker.com/did-saturday-night-live-rip-off-this-sketch-from-the-gr-1642875996/
  4. What do y'all think of this? http://www.buzzfeed.com/perpetua/the-current-cast-of-snl-ranked-from-best-to-worst
  5. I remember reading an interview with somebody talking about how if you use a copyrighted song in a sketch, you have to really think hard about it, because it's likely going to be lost to history. Seth Meyers wanted to show a famous Peyton Manning dancing sketch to his wife, but couldn't find it the conventional way ...until he found it on a Japanese website.
  6. Replying to myself to update: Packers vs. Vikings: Boring one-sided game Patriots vs. Bengals: Boring one-sided game I expect Seahawks vs. Redskins will continue this trend. Jim Nance said today that this week's Thursday Night Football game will be close. I doubt it.
  7. It would be funny if this became a recurring bit. Or maybe not. Next time Tina hosts, she should also answer questions from her younger self (Same for JB Smoove -- if he was ever that famous -- who also did asked a lot of questions when he was a writer.)
  8. Yeah, Smigel is a friend of the show and all, but it just seems so wrong to bring in an outside writer -- unless it's only for the monologue. The whole point of SNL is that you give yourself over to them for a week. You trust them. Some of the host horror stories I've read are when the host brings in their own writers. It would just seem wrong to depend on an outside person. It kind of reminds me of last season's finale when all the alumni came back.
  9. Yeah, Hader always credits the heck out of Mulaney for his (half) contribution to Stefon.
  10. I'm a Packers fan, and I was bored out of my mind before halftime. Poor CBS. They're paying $34 million for each of these blowouts. Sure, TNF games have always been bad. But never this bad. (Also, let's not count the Packers-Seahawks as a TNF game since that was the opening game.) I think CBS is just cursed. I used to really love ESPN's Thursday Night college football. But I've for the most part stopped watching due to the NFL's Thursday football. Tonight, I DVR'd both the Green Bay game and the Arizona/Oregon game, and I forgot how great Thursday Night college football can be.
  11. 10 years ago today, Weekend Update was freakin' awesome. http://www.buzzfeed.com/emilyorley/amy-plus-tina-plus-weekend-update-equals-magic
  12. This is probably not what you're asking for. But around February 2012, Abby Elliott joined a Fox pilot (apparently with Lorne's blessing). A month later, she was fired from the pilot. I don't think, though, that she ever left SNL during that period. She was of course fired from SNL over summer 2012.
  13. After reading all the negative Mulaney reviews, I've gotta ask: What are the chances Nasim returns this season?
  14. Perhaps it's me, but I'm starting to lose interest in nearly every primetime game. I barely made it to the 3rd quarter for tonight's game. So I looked up the last few primetime games -- is it me or have a lot of primetime games been boring this year? Patriots vs. Chiefs: Boring one-sided game Cowboys vs. Saints: Boring one-sided game Giants vs. Redskins: Boring one-sided game Bears vs. Jets: Interesting game Steelers vs. Panthers: Boring one-sided game Buccaneers vs. Falcons: Boring one-sided game
  15. Bill Hader is filming a movie with Amy Schumer directed by Judd Apatow. This young guy named Pete Davidson has a small part in it. Bill Hader calls up Lorne Michaels, and says this Davidson kid is pretty funny. And that is how Davidson ended up on SNL... http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/09/29/bill-hader-pete-davidson-snl/
  16. Speaking of Kyle Mooney, I find his hair annoying. What do you call that hairstyle? It's not a mullet, but it's really long and poofy in the back. What is it?
  17. Bobby noted in several interviews after Kerry Washington hosted last year that they were born on the same day. Kerry Washington was born on January 31, 1977. Also, in the first minute of this interview with Artie Lange posted on/conducted on March 22, 2013, Bobby says "I'm 36."
  18. Pete Davidson: Born November 16, 1993. Bobby Moynihan: Born January 31, 1977. Moynihan turned 17 on January 31, 1994 -- when Pete was 2-1/2 months old. Leslie had a bigger role on last night's episode than Sasheer, so why isn't she a featured player already?
  19. Some thoughts: —Aidy kept screwing up in the cold open. There was too much Aidy in this episode. —Darrell Hammond sounds too mellow to be announcer and it seemed like the music was overpowering his voice. The intro didn’t sound, um, forceful? —Pete Davidson looks like a very young Jimmy Fallon. (Fallon joined SNL at 24. Davidson turns 21 in November.) —Bobby Moynihan is nearly 17 years older than Davidson. Old enough to be his dad. —SNL’s Weekend Update Twitter page demonstrated all day Saturday how 400 jokes are whittled down to 12. https://twitter.com/SNLUpdate —I loved the rap battle. Chris Pratt’s rap skills became viral a few months ago, so that’s why they took advantage of it. What I really liked: The lack of alumni*. During the middle of the show, I was thinking it would be cool to see an alum? But at the end I realzed that Lorne and SNL are moving forward. They’ve become lazy with the alumni cameos. This was about a new generation taking over. Also: I liked Pratt. He showed his range. But then again, I’ve been following his career for 12 years now. (*Yeah, I’m saying this with Bill Hader coming back in 2 weeks. Hader, to me, is becoming annoyingly overexposed. Every talk show appearance produces many headlines. He was even in the news Saturday for an interview he and Kristen did with a Denver interview who hadn’t seen their movie.)
  20. I don't think Amy will appear, and I hope it doesn't happen. SNL-wise, Amy is a huge star. And I think she'll take away from Pratt hosting "away from the nest." The Parks and Rec nest. Oh god, I hope this doesn't become one of those shows with a bunch of SNL cameos. Like, um, the last show.
  21. Even though I like Andy Samberg, I got so annoyed listening to Seth and Andy bro it up. And talk about their SNL past. Again. Which got me thinking: How many SNL alums from Seth's era have been on his show? I don't know if I'll do this regularly, but: Last week: 2 (Tina Fey, Bill Hader) This week: 2 (Ana Gasteyer, Andy Samberg) Next week: 1 (John Mulaney)
  22. He filmed behind the scenes of a December 2008 John Malkovich episode. Speaking of which, A&E Biography aired a 2-hour episode going behind the scenes of a week at SNL hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow in November 2001. I wish I could see that again
  23. I was watching this clip this morning, and it is everything wrong with Fallon's interview style. Jeez, he can't stop interrupting and doing his shtick. Also, I learned from this clip that Fallon really hasn't been watching Game of Thrones. He's a few seasons behind. I thought that was interesting. (yes, I know he's busy, but still....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FjVunqjOuI&feature=youtube_gdata
