  1. Michael Che worked on the last episode of last season. And he'll be on the first episode of this season, so it's like he never left. (Except for the whole Daily Show thing. Poor Jon Stewart -- he keeps hiring really talented people!) And OMG: 3 black males on SNL at the same time! Just pionting that out. And a 2-guy desk! This is truly the post-Seth Meyers-era!
  2. At least Lorne realizes he made some sort of mistake. Too bad he's sticking with Jost.
  3. holys hit http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/12/business/media/new-comic-to-anchor-update-on-snl.html
  4. Happy 39th anniversary! I wonder if Bill and Hillary Clinton will stop by this season, since they were married on Oct. 11, 1975, hours before SNL's debut. And since they're the most enduring public figures during SNL's time.
  5. Poehler says Pratt is the funniest cast member on Parks and Rec. This should be fun. (Wow! Just realized I've been following Pratt's career for 12 years, as I was an Everwood fan.)
  6. Has the rumor been confirmed? Because NBC has announced the 3rd episode yet.
  7. It would be funny if they did a Parks and Rec skit with somebody playing Amy Poehler.
  8. Wow! I actually think this video will do more to battle domestic violence than any anti-domestic violence nonprofit group. It is so powerful. As Lawrence O'Donnell said last night on MSNBC, this is a turning point in how we look at domestic violence. This video, as he noted, is like the Rodney King video. You have to see it to believe it. Keeping the video locked up is like maintaining the status quo. Exposing the video makes a huge difference. Also by saying they don't want the video out there, they're essentially backing Ray Rice. Because without that video, and the backlash against it, Ray Rice would be back at work in less than 72 hours.
  9. I'm so disappointed in Rachel's backhanded compliment of TMZ, equating it with tabloid trash like The National Enquirer and saying it occasionally breaks big news. TMZ is a legit 24/7 news operation. And like legit news operations like NBC News, it pays for video footage. But TMZ also is diligent in searching through every court record filed, being well-sourced on every arrest, nearly every death. They break news often -- and take bigwigs down -- because, unlike MSNBC or NFL reporters, they aren't beholden to the ones they cover. You may not like certain aspects of TMZ (the celeb Z-lister gossip pays the bills), but you can't doubt the impact it has had on the news business. (For those who don't know, TMZ has never lost a libel suit.)
  10. Holy shit! Jack Whitehall. I'm getting flashbacks of watching awful comedy.
  11. It was reported a month ago, and Les Moonves said he was one of the people in the running. Today, it's official.
  12. So far the video has humiliated Ray Rice, Roger Goodell, the Baltimore Ravens, Peter King, and many other NFL reporters who carry the NFL's water. So, you'd rather not have it released?
  13. Rich Eisen had my favorite tweet of the day -- seriously, couldn't we have more/better games in the late timeslot?
  14. So every year, I call DirecTV asking them to downgrade my NFL Sunday Ticket package from the "Max" to the regular. (The Max contains the Red Zone and some fantasy stuff.) And every year, they offer to give me the Max at the regular price. This year, when I called, I didn't even have to fake it. They right off the bat offered me NFL Sunday Ticket Max for $190 for the season (I think it's like $350). So that's about $11 for each Sunday. Meanwhile, it costs a family of four $660 to attend a game at Levi's Stadium. Despite living near 2 NFL stadiums, that's why I've never been and possibly never will* attend an NFL game. (*Actually, I probably lose my NFL game virginity next season when the Packers play @ the Raiders, which they haven't done since 2003, the week Brett Favre's dad died. But actually going to a game would mean missing out on all the rest of the NFL action....)

  16. Conan didn't have her on, either. I guess by the time Fallon came on, it was already like really, really, really old news. I was watching Johnny Carson's YouTube channel, which I believe is run by one of his sons, and they have full Joan Rivers interviews. But of course she was great.
  17. I've read he's doing really, really well in the ratings. Even beating Letterman in the demo. He's doing great. But Seth had 18 days off thanks to the Emmys and Labor Day, so that's why they used that time to put in a new set.
  18. It's so odd, yet fitting, that Joan would die months after the whole Tonight Show ban was put to an end. But I'm so glad Fallon had her on not once, but twice.
  19. Nicolle graduated from my alma mater -- UC Berkeley. Imagine that!
  20. I still follow Brooks and John Milhiser on Twitter (and that other fired chick -- I forgot her name). Don't ask why. Since they got fired, Brooks and Milhiser have been filling their Twitter streams with terrible jokes. Oh, man they are terrible.
  21. 3 women in their 50s (Rosie Perez turns 50 on Saturday) and one woman in her 40s. Yeah for age diversity!
  22. But as I pointed out, Poehler lives nearly half the year in NYC, with her kids. She's also has worked frequently in NYC in the past few years, from her new movie with Tina Fey to They Lived Together. If you look at her IMDb page, she has a ton of projects. So it's not NYC and it's not that her kids are keeping her from working. Maybe she doesn't want to host or maybe she hasn't been invited back. But it's odd that one of SNL's most celebrated and talented cast members has only hosted once.
  23. Yeah, but it shouldnt' be hard to get Amy to NYC for 1 week during hiatus. Look at all the other Parks and Rec cast members who are busy on other projects. Also, from any interview with Amy last year: http://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/parks-and-recreations-amy-poehler-on-nyc-her-costars-and-more Poehler is usually living in New York after Parks and Rec wraps for the season, so April and May, which is why she always appeared on the season finale Weekend Updates with Seth. Also, Parks and Rec's boss/creator is a former SNL writer who is married to a former SNL writer. So he'd understand.
  24. Anybody find it odd that Poehler has only hosted once (the 2010 season opener) in the 5 1/2 years that she left the show. Contrast that with Tina Fey, who hoted 3 times within 5 years of leaving the show. Yeah, Poehler has a sitcom, but so did Fey.
  25. Yeah, I wasn't impressed with the new set. I was so looking forward to the Colbert interview, but it was absolutely boring. There could have been potential! Also, you have Colbert and his close pal Amy Sedaris on the same show-- and there's no interaction between them! Not even a brush-pass!
