So, what's the blend on those wines?

Here's the description from the Drafthouse's blog from when they came out.

“Inconceivable Cab” is a 2009 vintage California Cabernet, with a deep ruby hue. The nose is all black currant with subtle hints of oak. Medium bodied, full of plum and black cherry fruit, balanced by firm acidity and tannins. On the finish, lingering notes of cedar and vanilla dominate. It is complex & intriguing, with no trace of iocane powder.

The “As You Wish White” is a light golden hue in the glass. This refreshing California blend has bright clean tropical fruit & green apple aromas. Medium bodied, with balanced acidity, it starts with bright tropical fruit flavors, leading to a long, citrus-laced finish. Perfect for relaxing after a daring escape through the fire swamp.

FYI, if anyone wants a kick-ass red sangria recipe, Bobby Flay's wins.

It's certainly quicker to prepare than the recipe I have.

Normandy because it was my first French cider. Nowadays, I drink mostly the Quebec ones which are similar. I like the dryness.

Ooh, a good Quebec ice cider... that would be special. I'm partial to a dry Breton cider, but they're both delicious.

The idea of mixing a red wine with a white to come up with a rose?

Mes excuses! I had to go there though, for the sake of the joke.

Anyway, while we're all enjoying our drinks and playing with (or for) the assorted animals, I think it's finally time for the unboxing.

Now, a few pictures.  I'll put them behind spoiler tags to help keep this post a bit smaller and less memory intensive for the mobile crowd.

First, the inverted Crate itself.

Next, the inflated crown and the tie.

Crown20and20Tie.jpg

Now the cards.  Several photos here.

First, the Aces.  Mainly to show the detailing for the suits. And I hadn't noticed before, but the blades on the long sides of the cards are also unique to each suit.

The rest of the face cards are the big draws.

Jacks:

Queens:

and Kings:

This last picture is of the Jokers, the back of the cards, and the other special cards in the box

Last, the QR code I mentioned at the start of the video.  That leads to this link, which is an old-school text game (like Zork, or the Hitchhikers Guide game, or Leather Goddesses of Phob-... I've said too much), featuring this very crate!  The items within are the items in the game.  I haven't gotten very far yet.  Like many of these games, I know what I need to do, but I don't know what the command is to make it work.

So, that's the April crate.  They'll be announcing the theme for the May crate very soon.

And it was a worthy joke, Bob. Nicely played. :)

Cool crate! Yes, the magnets would have been quite fun to have had during the last game, but what can you do?

Sweet!  Haven't gotten my crate yet (thanks, Canada Post!), but I've already been mostly spoiled about it, and what I've seen of it looks pretty good.

You know, I don't miss Canada Post.

Though I am posting it, nearly all of this story was written by the lovely stacey. She is a fabulous co-mod, so make sure you give her equal blame credit for it.

Night 2: Reckonings
Sunnydale General Hospital

Giles stood in the ER, shoulders slumped, as Xander left to meet up with Spike, and turn Dawn over to his protection. Angel stood with his back facing the cubicle where the body of Buffy lay, broken. Wesley came back through the doors, and walked up to Giles. “Apparently, Joyce died of a brain aneurysm, no supernatural cause there,” he said quietly to Giles. “That may be all well and good, but Buffy’s death was NOT natural,” Giles said tersely, as he removed his glasses, and absent-mindedly cleaned them.

He turned and walked towards the waiting room; Wesley reached out and put his hand on Angel’s shoulder; Angel turned and headed after Giles. “I will need to speak to Willow, she needs to know what happened,” Giles said distractedly, and once they were all gathered, he hit send and the phone rang. “Hey, Giles!” Willow answered, “We’re not at the Dollhouse place yet, but Adelle has shown me some---”

“Willow, enough,” Giles said not unkindly, “There has been a development here. I don’t know how else to tell you this, but...Buffy is dead.” There was a long pause on the other end of the phone, and then Willow replied, “Um. Giles, if this is supposed to be some sort of code, I don’t know what that really means.”

“It means she’s dead, Willow. As in deceased. Faith is our only Slayer now. And we haven’t time to discuss it further, but it’s all the more imperative that you are able to help Adelle get their systems on line, do you understand?” Giles said sternly. The quiet on the other end of the line was filled with a tiny sniff. “Okay, Giles. Umm, Faith wants to talk to you okay?” Willow said softly.

The phone changed hands, and Faith’s voice vibrated down the line, “Giles, what the hell? Buffy is gone? What happened!?” “Faith, I’ll explain more later, but right now, it is of utmost importance to get to the Dollhouse and get everyone in there safely, especially Willow and Adelle,” Giles spoke evenly into the phone. He turned and looked at Angel and Wesley, both with dazed and defeated looks on their face. “Do you understand?” “Hey, I got this, G,” Faith said smoothly.

Giles disconnected the call, and rubbed the back of his neck. Things going from terrible to worse, which is what he usually expected, but this was even worse than he could have imagined. “Excuse me,” a voice said from behind him. He swung around to find an attractive Asian woman dressed in black leather behind him. “Are you Rupert Giles?” “Um, why, yes, I’m Rupert Giles, and you are?” he said, as Angel and Wesley came to stand behind him. She answered him briskly, “May. Agent Melinda May. We need to talk.”

Offices of Wolfram & Hart, Attorneys At Law
Lilah Morgan escorted Ian Quinn into the large boardroom, complete with an excessively sized table and more chairs than the small group needed. “Ms. Morgan, I do not believe you have had the opportunity to meet our mole within SHIELD before now,” Quinn said, as the wall screen flickered to life, and the image of a man.

“Ms Morgan, may I say, it is lovely to meet you,” John Garrett rasped. He glanced at Quinn and gave a short nod. “Quinn. Welcome to California.” Quinn gave a terse nod back. “What have we heard from the rest of our team?” Quinn asked before sliding into a chair with Lilah taking another seat two down as she opened her laptop.

“Our Rossum partner should be joining us shortly; he indicated that he was successful in bringing this apparently latest creature over to our cause,” “Well, it sounds less like she joined our cause as we were all on the same side in the first place,” Garrett interjected. “You say ‘our side’, I say non adimpleti contractus,” Lilah retorted. “The fact is, she’s on OUR side now.” “Okay, great, now if we can move this little dog-and-pony show along? I’ve got places to be,” Garrett growled, glancing around the room he was in. “They’ll be looking for me any minute, what’s the plan?”

The door opened and in strode another man, who Lilah greeted, “Mr. Langton, welcome. I have just shared what you told me about the creature in Sunnydale. What news do you have for us?” “I can report that our newest member has successfully taken out the person known in Sunnydale as The Slayer,” Boyd responded. “She’s regrouping now, and will be heading out of Sunnydale as soon as she’s seen some guy named Ben. She was pretty wiped out when I talked to her,” he added, before glancing at this cell phone. “Keep in mind, this one is pretty high maintenance. She seems to think she actually IS a god. Oh, and that here on earth, she goes by Glory.”

“We will be keeping an eye out for her,” Lilah responded. “What of your concerns with Ms. Dewitt? Have you been able to reestablish contact, or discover her whereabouts?” “Not yet,” Boyd said, “But I have someone in place to deal with her if she returns to the Dollhouse.”

“Good. Garrett, you maintain there in Sunnydale, and once this ‘Glory’ has joined us here in LA, we will be in touch with the next steps,” Lilah said, before Garrett signed off. “Things are starting to look up, gentlemen. Let’s have a drink!” She rose from the table and headed to the small bar in the corner. “A lovely vintage from Oregon - I think we can all agree to toast on this!”

Outside the LA Dollhouse
The car pulled up outside the Dollhouse, and the doors opened to allow the passengers to alight. Faith and Gunn emerged first, and did a quick scan, before allowing a red-eyed Willow and Tara to exit the vehicle. Bringing up the rear were Adelle and Cordelia, both alert and scanning the scene. “There’s apparently some big encrypted message being sent out world-wide,” Adelle said curtly as they made their way to the front doors. “I am hopeful we will find out more now that we’re here.”

The group hustled quickly into the building, where they were met by quiet. “I am not liking this,” Gunn muttered, “Not liking this at all…” “Where is everybody??” wondered Adelle from the rear. She, Faith, and Gunn formed a tight perimeter around Willow, Tara, and Cordelia. “Charles, seriously, you know I can handle myself just fine,” Cordelia harrumphed and pushed herself past Gunn, before turning to face the group. “I’ve taken care of myself just fine for--”

There was almost no sound, as the gun had a silencer, but the mushrooming stain of blood on the front of Cordelia’s shirt left no misunderstanding as to what had happened. She looked down in a daze, and said softly, “Oh, crap…” as she tumbled forward. Gunn rushed ahead and caught her, before laying her gently on the floor. Faith started to head in the direction the shot had come from, before Adelle grabbed her arm. “No!” she yelled, “Stay with us! We need to stay together!”

Tara and Willow dropped to the ground next to Cordelia and Gunn, and Willow spoke frantically, “Okay, Cordy, I mean, we know you like attention and all, but this is a little much even for you, and Tara and I are going to see what we can do to--” to be interrupted when Tara put her hand on Willow’s and sadly shook her head. Willow burst into tears, and laid her head on Tara’s shoulder.

“Man, I CANNOT get a break,” Cordelia mumbled, as her breath grew more shallow. “Charles…” she gasped. “Right here, Cordelia. Go ahead,” Gunn said. Cordelia choked out, “Blood stains and bullet holes on my new jacket! What kind of...neanderthal would be so rude...Do you have...any idea of the...dry cleaning bill I'm loo…” Her breath grew faster, shallower, and then she stopped breathing altogether. The sounds of Willow’s sobs grew louder, while Tara continued to rock her. Sensing somebody else coming, Whiskey exited a side door and escaped into the night.

There was a sound from the corner opposite where the bullet had come, “Neat building you have here. I am assuming that one of you is Adelle Dewitt?” a man said as he emerged from the shadows, his weapon trained on the dark space that the kill shot had come from. “I am VERY hopeful she’s not the one laying on the ground bleeding out, but with my luck, that’s exactly who she is.”

Adelle stepped forward from her position blocking the group on the floor, while Faith backed her up. “I am Adelle Dewitt. And I must insist you tell me WHO you are and WHAT you are doing in my building?” The man cautiously approached her, his eyes continuing to scan the entire space. “Coulson. Phil Coulson. I’m with SHIELD, and you contacted us, I believe?  Nice welcoming committee you have here, glad I found the secret underground entrance first.”

Killed in Classic Whedon Style
NPC-Bennett Halverson, a HERO. Could have killed you with her brain, if Joss didn’t so enjoy killing characters in front of their loved ones
NPC-Joyce Summers, a HERO. She was a good mom.
Oinky Boinky-Buffy Summers, a HERO and LOVER. The Slayer and a damn good one. Her nemesis-turned-ally Faith brought her first love Angel back to her. Could communicate with ANGEL outside of the game.
TMunz-Cordelia Chase, a HERO and SEER. Had changed since she was last in Sunnydale, and was still learning to work with her new gift. A reformed ‘mean girl,’ the snark remained strong with her. Was told each Night via her visions where the clues in the previous two stories were.

So you will have 24 hours for Night, so it will end ~10:45 AM Eastern on Tuesday. The previous story contained two clues. Now I will go lament over the two winners candidates for Sunnydale's homecoming queen being offed first...

Sweet!  Haven't gotten my crate yet (thanks, Canada Post!), but I've already been mostly spoiled about it, and what I've seen of it looks pretty good.

Don't feel badly, I have watched two of my crates go fro California, to Martinsburg WV (which is like 10 miles from my house) to Owings Mills Maryland, where they sit for about a week, then to Linthicum Maryland, then to Baltimore, all about an hour from where they're supposed to be delivered... but THEN they get shipped back to Bell Garden's CA!!! And now I wait? I swear. It happened last month (my first box) and I gave the benefit of the doubt that FedEx screwed up or something. Now it's happening again and I'm annoyed. It's so fucking stupid I'm about to unsubscribe from the whole thing because how hard is this?

Day Three - Incursion

Outside Sunnydale
Fitz and Simmons pulled into The Bus and parked on the ramp. They were bickering about Fitz’s driving when Skye came running in, skidding to a stop in front of them. “GUYS! There’s this encrypted signal that’s been broadcasting world-wide for a while now. I decrypted it, and LOOK!” She showed them her tablet, and both of the so-called Fitzsimmons’ eyeballs bugged out.

“We have to tell Coulson and May!” Simmons immediately shouted. Skye shook her head, “The signal’s tampering with our communications.” Fitz turned back and beeped the car. “We’ll never get there fast enough,” Simmons said worriedly. Fitz protested while Skye gulped loudly. “I have an idea.”

Sunnydale General Hospital
Garrett had received the signal on his phone. It was time. He made his way out to where May was talking to a group of people. “Strike team move in” he whispered into his private communicator. Then he grabbed a large rack of medical supplies and toppled it, sending it crashing down onto the guys standing apart from May and the British guy.

“Well I haven’t spoken to Ms. Hand in some time,” Giles was saying as the doors banged open. May looked over at them. They appeared to be in SHIELD gear...but were moving in like it was an attack. “Hold that thought. Gentlemen? Are you here to backup Agent Coulson and I?” she asked, moving towards them. And one of them brought a gun up, but May was already diving into a side room. “Mr. Giles, run!” she yelled as she drew her blade.

Giles turned and saw another man stalking towards them with a knife. He stood over the fallen Angel and Wesley. Giles jumped at him to fight but was quickly beaten and shoved aside. Meanwhile, the strike team moved up to the room May was in. A room with a large window besides the door. Which May was currently crashing through to surprise them.

Giles watched in amazement as she tore through the commando group. Her fists and legs flew fast and furious, subduing the attacks one by one and knocking their guns away as they tried to apprehend her. Knives flashed and men yelled, and at the end of it May stood panting, bloodied but alive. And the sound of a jet closing in let Garrett know it was time to go. He made off for the secret exit he’d secured earlier. May’s eyes went wide, as she was the only pilot of their jet. “Did they get The Bus?” She frantically ran outside to see.

And May was greeted with the sight of The Bus, hovering over the street but drifting sideways, knocking into billboards and power lines. The giant jet spun and took out a lamppost, and had May been aboard, she would have heard the terrified screams that accompanied that.

“OhGodOhGodOhGodOhGod” babbled Skye, her whole body rigid as she attempted to keep the plane up, her hands glued to the controls. “Not THAT lever, the OTHER one!!” Simmons frantically yelled at Fitz. He yanked on a different lever as he retorted “I DESIGN these things, not FLY them!” Simmons huffed and turned another dial. May watched The Bus pitch dangerously sideways outside. “Don’t touch that!!” “Well ONE of these has to control the vertical thrusters!” The two young SHIELD agents continued to argue (as Skye was essentially catatonic) as The Bus drifted around aimlessly in the sky, May frantically trying to find a way to get back aboard. She groaned as The Bus slowly smashed nose-first right into a building. “Skye…”

Inside, Trip came upon Giles, checking him for injury. “What was that?” the older man asked as he motioned toward the decimated commando unit. Trip simply replied “That? Was the Cavalry.”

The LA Dollhouse
Once the introductions had been made, Adelle led the ragtag group to the Dollhouse Lab, with Gunn carrying Cordy’s body, and Coulson, Ward, and Faith bringing up the rear. Once there, Adelle discovered a shell-shocked Topher huddled in the corner. Tara set about putting him at ease, while Willow began work on decrypting the message sent out worldwide, and Adelle and Coulson spoke in hushed voices in the corner. Ward, Gunn, and Faith stood by waiting for further news while comparing scars.

“Ms. Dewitt?” Willow asked softly, as she wiped away the latest round of tears. “I--I think I may have figured this out, but I’m not sure what it means?” Adelle and Coulson turned and walked towards Willow. “What does it say, Ms Rosenberg?” Adelle queried. “‘Out of the Shadows, something the Light, something...HYDRA’? Is ‘hydra’ a corporation or something? I mean, I know it’s some sort of serpent-monster, but one’s not really here -- is it?”

“HYDRA?!?!” Coulson shouted. “You need to be very clear about this, Willow, and you need to be exact. What does the message say?” “"Out of the Shadows, Into the Light, HAIL HYDRA,” Willow confirmed. No one noticed Ward shift uncomfortably in the back of the room. “What does it mean, Coulson?” Adelle demanded.

Once again, Agent Phil Coulson removed his weapon from his holster. “As the kids these days say, Ms. Dewitt, it means that shit just got real.”

~~~
Meanwhile, a helicopter touched down on the roof of the Dollhouse, and Echo exited, staying low to the ground. The pilot hopped out and assisted Paul from his seat, and they made their way to the rooftop access, where the pilot handed over a bag and meds before returning to the helicopter, which then departed. Echo keyed a code into the pad, and frowned when it emitted a harsh noise and flashed red. “Seriously?” she muttered as Paul leaned against the wall, exhaustion etched in his face.
“We can just go with the retina scan, I ‘spose,” she mumbled, and Paul obliged. The door finally opened, and they entered and headed to the elevator banks; before Echo could push the button, Paul spoke. “Wait a minute, Echo,” he said, “There is something off here. When have we ever landed on the roof and not been greeted?” Echo looked at him, and said, “You’re right.” They turned to step back out onto the roof, and saw the encroaching agents, dressed in black, with shiny helmets and big guns.
“What the hell--” “You took the words right out of my mouth,” Echo said, pushing Paul to the side, and pulling the bag of medical gear off her shoulder. “Let’s see what might work as a weapon in here,” she spoke under her breath.
She opened the door and stepped back out onto the roof, facing the massed attackers. That assassin imprint was going to come in handy. She briefly considered how it had originally been given to her to attack Paul. Funny how things changed in a year. Now she wielded the medical scissors with deadly precision, dancing between the incoming soldiers and cutting them to shreds. She was fast and graceful as she destroyed them.
The fight ended with Echo holding the scissors in a man’s gut. And a voice whispered in her head, telling her to make it last. To get information from him, of course. So Echo twisted the scissors and the men screamed anew. A smile formed on Echo’s lips. The voice of the serial killer in her head encouraged her to do it again. So she did. More blood, more screaming.
“Echo!” Paul’s voice slapped Echo back to reality. She released her grip on the scissors, horrified. “Look out!!” From the ground, an agent Echo had thought dead raised up enough to stab at her with his knife. Aiming for her stomach, Echo turned just enough to cause it to miss her vital organs, and she cried out in pain. She withdrew the torture scissors and jabbed them into the man’s chest. Now he was dead.
Paul crawled over to her with the bag of medical supplies. “You’re hurt, here.” Echo breathed shallowly, flicking through her imprints. The midwife was the closest one to a doctor. She used some of the disinfectant from the bag, tossing the empty bottle away, and got out some sutures. Paul held her as she sewed it closed as best she could and used the last bandage to cover her wound. “Lucky we had that,” Paul mumbled from behind her. Echo nodded. “Lucky. Come on, let’s get you inside, you look like hell.” “And you look….pretty….” Echo shook her head with a wry smile as she helped him up again. The ill duo gave each other support as they headed inside.
