FormerMod-a1 June 11, 2014 Share June 11, 2014 Bay faces the consequences of her unplanned romantic encounter with Emmett. Will she break up with Tank? Will Bay and Emmett start a new life together? Meanwhile, Daphne sets out to find the person who vandalized her mom’s design studio. And Matthew continues to bully Emmett. 1 Link to comment
FormerMod-a1 June 17, 2014 Author Share June 17, 2014 I love this show and can't wait for next week, but dear lord how stupid were so many people today? They used to take turns being stupid, but so many people were stupid this episode. Bay with Tank, Bay and Emmet, Daphne and Bay with Nacho(?), Emmet about Matthew, Melody with Matthew... That said, I did like Katherine and John talking to Regina about standing up for herself and not backing down to the vandals/bullies. Are they really going to try to make Regina/Angelo work? What about his financial troubles? And all their other issues? I miss Toby. Hope he comes back from Iceland soon. I also miss Adriana. 1 Link to comment
flyngzebra June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 Does Regina even want the Regina/Angelo thing to work? 2 Link to comment

They used to take turns being stupid, but so many people were stupid this episode. Bay with Tank, Bay and Emmet, Daphne and Bay with Nacho(?), Emmet about Matthew, Melody with Matthew... I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. Don't get me wrong. I'm happy the show is back. I'm looking forward to seeing Emmett/Bay play out. At this point, I don't care about Daphne's stories at all. They have her repeatedly doing stupid shit & she never learns anything from it. 2 Link to comment
possibilities June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I like that ABC Family basically advertized the morning after pill. It's not like I think it's a great choice to wind up needing it. But TV usually acts like it doesn't even exist, to amp up the drama. I also liked that they made an effort to have some Bay-Daphne bonding. And Daphne finally called Angelo on his laziness about learning to sign. 3 Link to comment
Expat June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 My favorite thing about this eppie, besides the EBay, was the Wilke mention. I'm so easy. All they have to do is say that name and I get all smiley. :D Link to comment
meatball77 June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 They had a morning after pill episode last season in The Fosters. It's an important thing for these teen shows I think, and the discussion was good with the kids at least. We'll see what happens in the next episode. Is conservative dad going to flip out or is mom going to take her to the Dr for birth control. Link to comment
stopeslite June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I'm also jumping on the "why was everyone so stupid?" bandwagon. They really haven't done any character growth with Daphne at all. Wait, maybe they're trying to show how much she's like John, unwavering in her own beliefs no matter what? Probably not. I just feel so sorry for Tank. So, so sorry. I really felt the lack of Toby this episode. Bring back Toby! Link to comment
Lady Calypso June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 Yeah, I found that I didn't like most of the characters tonight, save for John and Kathryn, and that's really only because they didn't get much screen time (thank goodness; I hope their screen time is cut down and we don't have any more political/book storylines). Bay not telling Tank right away was kind of understandable, as he was blabbering on about his frat and how much Bay helped him. However, her going to Emmett right at the end instead of telling Tank first, in my opinion, wasn't the right call. Unfortunately, I know all too well how avoidance works and I am one of those people, so I can't put too much blame on Bay for being the same way. It looks like she'll actually break up with him, but I think she owes him the whole truth. I actually feel bad for Emmett. He's in a lose-lose situation here. I mean, there's a small chance that if he tells the truth that Matthew won't spread the picture (I'm going to hesitantly guess a naked pic?) but I think Matthew would be cruel enough to send it around as soon as they got out of the office, so I understand Emmett's dilemma. He's getting bullied, point blank, and he's also a teenage boy who makes mistakes. I didn't think Melody would get so physical at Matthew, and at school no less. I'm glad she got punished, as that is realistic, but to be honest, I was hoping she would whip Matthew's ass into shape. It took Angelo long enough to start signing. Geez. But I do think I like him a bit better in this episode. It was kind of cute when Daphne was teaching him signs. It sucks that he had to be prompted to learn, but at least he's learning. Scarlett45 June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 If the photo of Emmett is a nude one (which I think it is) would Matthew be dumb enough to start spreading it around as Emmett isn't 18 yet and we would have a child pornography issue on our hands. I know the laws are evolving to less strict regarding minors who take pictures of themselves and send to OTHER minors (versus an adult) but still it's so messy. I can understand how Emmett wants it all to just "go away" because he's embarrassed and Melody being her "mama bear self" is now suspended. Link to comment
flyngzebra June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I'm pleased that Bay was smart enough to get the morning after pill, but it seemed a bit ridiculous that she didn't know the name was the morning after pill. And neither one of them addressed STDs at all! Link to comment
joanne3482 June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I can't believe that Nacho kid was the 'big bad.' He was playing pool in a city community center for goodness sake. We're supposed to think he's somehow scary? Oh please. 2 Link to comment
Lady Calypso June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 Of course, Daphne is the one who wants to confront Nacho (seriously? That's his name/nickname?) and she thinks he'll actually stop because she talks to him. Unfortunately, Daphne's trait to see the best in everyone doesn't actually work, but I'm glad she did realize this in the end and tried to get her mom to quit again. I did love that Bay learned how to play pool from Wilke. I think that shows that the writers are aware how popular he is and maybe with Austin Butler's now cancelled show, he'll show up to support Toby and date Daphne again? I really do like Daphne best with Wilke and I totally forgot that she's in the relationship with Campbell until I saw the previews. 3 Link to comment
MaiSoCalled June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I'm pleased that Bay was smart enough to get the morning after pill, but it seemed a bit ridiculous that she didn't know the name was the morning after pill. I felt like Bay was being coy and nervous, and that's why her phrasing was a bit awkward. Like how teenagers will often refer to a condom as a thingie. When she did her Google search, she used the proper name. Yes! I think I said "I love you Wilke" along with Daphne. Wilke is the boy who would teach his best friend's sister how to not only play pool, but run a table. He would be finished with high school now, right? I did remember Campbell a bit earlier than you did, but not by much. Daphne mentioned having a boyfriend during the pool game, and about fifteen minutes later I realized who she was talking about. ElleTwoThree June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 I stopped watching this show like a year or more ago because I find it a bit halfassed and all of the storylines just kept going in the opposite of the "obvious" direction, but then the promo kind of pulled me back in what with the ebay reboot. Because of this I have no idea what is going on in like 90% of the stories. Bay seems to be dating the big bully from Glee while also the Emmett thing is going on, and Daphne... I don't know what the deal with Daphne is, Toby is gone to Iceland (is he in college? Is he in college in Iceland? Are they not college age yet? Daphne looks... well probably her age which is what? Late 20ies early 30ies?). I don't care about the adults, so I am not bothered about them. I also found it hilarious that the "baddy", the gang boss who throws stuff through windows threatening to basically destroy lives, plays pool in what must be the most well kept community centre in the world. No drugs and alcohol in there, just juice drinks and knitting grannies! Nacho is a fairly normal name in Spanish though, it is short for Ignacio. I did feel bad for Emmett and the bullying storyline, the picture must be a nudey of him... at least it teaches us all valuable lessons. Don't send pics of your junk to people you have never met. A good rule in life generally! 1 Link to comment
joanne3482 June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 @ElleTwoThree Quick recap of each character: Toby graduated last year and married this super Christian chick so they could have sex. 10 minutes later she went to Peru on a mission trip only to come back once to break his heart because she wants to stay in Peru and he doesn't want to move there. He's in Iceland putting his broken heart back together. Daphne did a lot of stupid things including blackmailing a senator. She met Campbell (her current boyfriend) at this clinic where she is doing her community service. She is set to graduate at the end of 'this' academic year and is considering pre-med (after she 'rescued' the doctor at the clinic). Bay was dating Ty after he got back from Afghanistan and then he had to go back to Afghanistan so he lied to her and told her he cheated on her. She's rebounding with Tank who she met at art class at the local college. She's supposed to go to Pratt (an art school) when she graduates. She cut her hand open at a party (very similar to Brandon's hand smash on The Fosters) and there was supposed to be an issue about it healing, but this episode didn't touch on that so apparently it healed just fine. Emmett got catfished at the season finale and he and Bay ended up having sex after Matthew left him there all beaten up. I forget what, if anything else happened to him. Travis is dating Bay's friend MaryBeth (a cute pairing) and working at the car wash. Theoretically he may go to college in the fall and he is living at Emmett's house. 2 Link to comment
CleoCaesar June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 (edited) Agreeing with the "all of these characters have been overdosing on stupid pills" train of thought. Emmett's predicament is at least somewhat understandable. Bay's is not (having sex without a condom AND not using incognito mode on her browser when searching for the morning-after pill? Dumb, dumb, dumb). I love that this show always portrays its scary hoodlum characters as clean-cut teen J. Crew models. No alcohol, drugs, or face tattoos here! When Daphne said she already had a boyfriend, I had to pause to think about who it was. Girl's had a lot of 'em. Also, it can't be said enough: I'm beyond sick of Emmett's Constipated!James!Dean face. Get a new facial expression, Sean Berdy. Edited June 17, 2014 by CleoCaesar 1 Link to comment
ElleTwoThree June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 Thanks Joanne3482 that was really helpful! And as expected I haven't missed anything all that major... none of the story lines seem to be about the switch anymore in the least, which makes me sad because this show had such a great premise. I devoured books about switched at birth type stories as a preteen and young teen, but all of the storylines that would have to do with it have just been kind of discarded. Everyone lives in harmony together and all drama is due to other factors. 1 Link to comment
CleoCaesar June 17, 2014 Share June 17, 2014 none of the story lines seem to be about the switch anymore in the least I don't really see what other storylines could come from the switch. They've integrated into each other's families, and are tentatively exploring their roots. They've all dealt with it, it seems. I'm more upset that boy drama has overshadowed the far more interesting deaf storylines and issues. I can get boy drama from any show; I can't get entire scenes in ASL with subtitles, which I still find cool and original. 2 Link to comment
possibilities June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Emmett needs to just own the photo, and in fact the entire situation, and ditch the shame. Matthew is the one who was conniving. Emmett's worst crime here is naivete. So what he needs to do is turn it to his advantage. He can strut around flexing and posing and offering to autograph it for anyone who has a copy. And he can do a PSA type thing warning other kids about how to be safe online-- or better yet, he could teach a workshop on how to verify info and expose catfishers. Suddenly he's a hero, not a loser. Adolescents worship power, and sometimes overlook compassion (and they revile innocence). But if you can combine compassion with power? You're a legend in the hallways. 4 Link to comment

You're a legend in the hallways. While I agree with you here for the most part, are we to believe that Emmett is 18 yet? Is Matthew? I don't know a ton about the laws regarding this, but if that was a naked photo, there are some serious legal repercussions if they are not yet 18. Many states have laws that can label a minor a sex offender even if the sexting in question was consensual. I wonder if that's where they're going to go with this story? Maybe I'm over-thinking it, though. Link to comment
MissScarlett June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 Yay! SAB is back! Poor Tank. He has been friend-zoned since day 1. The only reason that he is Bay's "boyfriend" is because she decided that she wanted someone loyal and sweet. Someone who would not cheat on her or hurt her. I don't even think she was really attracted to him persay. More attracted to the friendship and the fact that he is safe. It's not right or okay for her to use Tank in that way but it happens IRL. Tank is adorbs but at the end of the day I am EBay all the way! Don't send pics of your junk to people you have never met. This. This needs to be on a bumper sticker or something. I feel horrible for Emmet. Matthew is obviously some kind of psychotic mastermind. I am intrigued to see where this storyline goes. The mom in me definitely wanted Melody to give Matthew a giant smack down of epic proportions. The Regina / Developer storyline is ok. I'm not yet clear where they are going with it. Either Regina and the Developer will fall in twu wuv or everyone will die. It's a toss up. Something was definitely missing without Toby. :( Wilke!! I loved the Wilke mention! They need to bring him back! Link to comment
Athena June 18, 2014 Share June 18, 2014 I really hope they get Wilke back. He is the only person who could make Daphne happy again. Hilariously when Daphne was all, "I have a boyfriend so I don't want to go out with these guys," I forgot that she had a boyfriend and I didn't even remember him until after the episode aired. 2 Link to comment
bettername2come June 20, 2014 Share June 20, 2014 (edited) When Matthew showed his phone to Emmett, I automatically thought he had come back and recorded Emmett and Bay having sex. It would have made Emmett seem less idiotic and added a "protecting Bay" quality to the lie that would have made me go along with it more. Melody was definitely stupid in the scene with Matthew, but Marlee Matlin played it great. I understand why she has an Oscar now (and am off to Netflix to check out that film). Whoever plays Matthew has really grown into the role of smarmy bastard. So John found out because Bay typed "Where in Mission Hills can I buy the morning after pill?" Does that not seem like the most unlikely of searches Bay would use for that topic? Ok, before I came on here and realized just how stupid everyone had been, I was thinking how much I was loving the relationships. Great familial relationships by the usual players, awesome Daphne/Bay bonding, Daphne opening up to Angelo and him genuinely feeling bad about not signing well (although she told him she couldn't understand him the first time they met), John and Kathryn being completely on Regina's side, Emmett/Bay have won be back over, Emmett and Melody were great. The relationships are what keep me coming back to the show. That and learning new signs. Now I know the sign for "flirt!" I really hope they get Wilke back. He is the only person who could make Daphne happy again. Carrie Diaries was canceled! Please bring Austin Butler back! They can reunite Guitar Face! And I can tell you, there is nowhere in Mission Hills that you can purchase the morning after pill. It's strictly residential and country clubs. Edited June 20, 2014 by Saradactyl 1 Link to comment
