Cast in Other Roles

Sara2009

Lea was hired by Micheal Mayer Broadway Producer/Director/writer at least 7 times and no one ever worried about that.

Yet it sees this new role is 180 from that of Rachel Berry.   So again, it's the role itself, not who offers it.

Hardly any actress over 40 would refuse to play Mary Tyrone, regardless of who produces it which I guess is Ryan's association.  The play is a modern classic.

Plus, google tells me Jessica Lange is missing a Tony in her awards collection.

Jessica Lange  was nominated for an  Olivier award for playing Mary Tyrone in the West End a few years back.   So I could certainly see why she would (hopefully)try to replicate the same success on Broadway.

What can you say about Naya Rivera’s addition to the cast?
That was a big get for us, we were very excited to have her join the season. We had this pivotal role for a new housekeeper who is friends with our established group, and when we were trying to cast it Lifetime was very interested in having a name actress play the role. Naya was the first name we came up with. I wasn’t even sure that would even be a possibility so when she signed up we were very excited.

Amber's movie sounds right up my alley, because I LOVE Christmas movies.  They make me happy.  There's way too much "dark and edgy" on TV these days to suit my tastes . I can't watch most of it.  I'll take hopeful and inspirational any day over violent and anarchist.

ETA: I left out the "d" in edgy.

Agreed!  I don't understand how the entertainment paradigm we've lit on these days--both in scripted and reality tv--is to show how vile and outrageous people can be rather than how awesome.  Thank goodness for Humans of New York.

"They Might Be Kennedys": Update

“A major agency has taken TMBK under their wing and they are in the process of attaching elements to secure distribution. This is great news, but now they have the wheel – which means it is becoming a much larger project than we previously had planned. We are in very good hands. Stay tuned for updates. ‪#‎6afilms‬ ‪#‎tmbk‬”

Lea's character looks like the Rachel Berry

Yea I see that a little bit in the face area.

Looks can be deceiving.

4. Which actor/actress surprised you the most in it?

Hands down, that title belongs to Lea Michele as the neckbrace-bound nerd Hester. Glee's former queen-bee promised ET back in March that this new role would be nothing like Rachel Berry, and she was most certainly telling the truth. Michele -- who barely says more than six words in the entire first hour! -- is an undeniable scene stealer as the overly-knowledgeable Kappa pledge who doesn’t let Chanel's intensity stifle her enthusiasm to support her sisters.http://www.etonline.com/tv/167186_why_scream_queens_is_to_die_for_7_answers_to_the_internet_most_popular_questions/

Yeah but that's from the same journalist who raved about season six of Glee, not exactly a reliable source.

Lea's character is the awkward one, jealous of the popular blonde girl. As did Rachel.

Let's face it, it's a Ryan Murphy show, he's not exactly a great writer. He should really stick to directing.

I guess if you want to twist and turn you can come up with similarities between tons of stuff.    You can also find many ways they are not similar.

Lets face it 90% of what is being produced is hardly innovative.  Just look at all these procedural shows  or now a big push for superheros  most stuff is rehashed and reinterpreted.

But in the end in wardrobe and hair I do not see how this character looks much like Rachel Berry who was prim and proper in little skirts and loafers.

I get it now.  Obsessed with death = obsessed with Broadway.  Totally the same ;).

I actually think Ryan Murphy is a much better writer than director.  He doesn't care about attention to detail or long-term plotting, but he has some really creative ideas and can write well when he wants to.  He's come up with some rather interesting and very successful shows over the course of his career.  I don't think people can deny that.

I wouldn't call RM a great writer, especially for episodic TV.  He can barely keep an anthology show from being a hot mess.  I would say he is a great creator/ideas man.  He comes up with great ideas and fleshes them out well enough for a 10-13 episode run at the most but anything longer than that is beyond his writing, directing, and show-running abilities.  On the other end of the spectrum you have Vince Gilligan who is both a great writer and show runner, especially for TV.   Breaking Bad was a very tightly written show with a recognizable throughline througout.

As for Scream Queens being similar to Glee, I think he is using many of the same arch-typical characters but that doesn't make it an exact replica.  As for Lea's character in particular, she doesn't look like Rachel but I am betting she gets a make-over somewhere along the line to where she is much more preppy like Rachel was.  Still that doesn't make her exactly like Rachel.

You pretty much nailed it.

Either that or a Keyser Soze moment in the final episode where we find out she is the killer...

A makeover

is not much of a secret if you follow any social media that may pertain to glee,  Lea or Scream Queens.  Even if Ryan does get his Eve Harrington moment this time  a safe bet to assume a makeover.  I mean pictures were even posted on entertainment sites.

Dianna is a busy girl.

"Glee alumna Dianna Agron has landed a lead role in Hollow In The Land, an indie drama from writer-director Scooter Corkle. She will play Alison, a tomboyish lesbian who works at a pulp mill. A year after her father was put away for murder, she’s in a troubled state, but her troubles get worse when her brother goes missing. She sets out to find him. Along with her regular-then-recurring role on Fox’s Glee, Agron recently has appeared in the features Tumbledown, Bare and Zipper. She next stars in the indies Headlock and A Conspiracy On Jekyll Island. She is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson."

I said it about Lea Michele and I'll say it about Darren, there are far worse things in life than to have Ryan Murphy in your corner offering you employment/opportunities.

Predicting now the next Glee cast regular to get a RM production gig will be Chord Overstreet.

Sounds like it will only be a one episode appearance judging by the wording, which makes me think Kathy Bates' character will off him in the episode. But still not a bad gig because as shitty as I think RM and company are, the critics still love American Horror Story if their multiple Emmy nominations is anything to go by.

Really, I never got the sense that Ryan liked Chord that much..particularly after the contract issues.

Darren and Lea? Yea, he obviously liked those two. I've been told American Horror Stories is great, and I want to check out Scream Queens..but I don't trust Ryan.

American Horror Story has big Emmy cred, the question is now how it will do without Jessica Lange as the lead/.anchor. I thought the last season was a misfire and a dud, but what do I know, it got 19 Emmy nods.

Hasn't AHS gone downhill?

I don't watch it, but I've seen comments to that effect.

Because of the anthology nature of the series, some people have liked some seasons better than others. For example, some viewers have said that Freakshow, the season that just ended wasn't so great but I've read many comments of people who loved it and definitely thought it was better than Coven, the season before. Similarly, there were many comments that Coven was awful, but some loved it and it still got nominated for a number of awards.

I haven't watched all the seasons (I avoided Freakshow and Asylum because I don't do gory, creepy creatures) but of the ones I watched, I thought, true to Ryan Murphy and company, it had its strong parts and it had its weaknesses. Without question, the cast, particularly Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and later Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett truly elevates the material. So yes it has its weaknesses but thankfully because of the show's format, Murphy and company haven't entirely fucked it up yet. So I guess what I'm saying is that no, it hasn't gone downhill yet - ratings are still strong and critical success/praise is still strong.
