Who knew that all Gabriel needed to do was develop a milky eye and get a sweet hat, and suddenly become a ladies man?!  First Jadis, and now he's somehow landed Rosita.  Well played, Gabriel.  And, of course, it turns out Eugene is totally jealous about that development.  Some things never change.

So far, the Noobs aren't bugging me too much, although I definitely think the art teacher and his nebbish, nice guy antics means he's somehow going to be the worst of them all.  Plus, thanks to Hannibal, I know that Dan Fogler is actually capable of being creepy.  Still don't know any of their names though, although I just realized that the former prisoner was Luna from The 100.

Michonne has now harden to the point that she automatically distrust any outsiders and occasionally talks to "Rick" and "Carl."  Oh, boy!

I see six years of marriage hasn't stop Carol from burning a few fools when the time calls for it!

Yay, Negan is still around (/sarcasm.)

Judith's alright, although the actress seems to be about as rough as Chandler Riggs was at times.

Andrew Lincoln and Laure Cohan are no longer in the credits, but Khary Payton is!  Yay, Ezekiel!

Talking walkers?!

I really don’t understand why it’s hard to believe she talks to Rick and why y’all think it’s such a problem. Have you lost a spouse?  My husband died almost 5 years ago. I haven’t dated anyone or even considered it. I know quite a few other women who have been the same way. Why does she need another man?  What’s wrong with talking to him and talking thru things that way?  I am considering dating next year. I’m sure Michonne is lonely, but she is a catch and therefore should be very selective. There are very few men who would be comfortable with her!  Y’all don’t know what you’re talking about!

Was it ever established why Reg elected to place the diagonal bracing on the exterior of the wall? Going with any horde, or other form of pressured attack, rather than against it.

Don’t ask me - I never figured that'un out.  Maybe Reg had plans to turn Alexandria into a prison, and designed the walls to keep everybody in?  ;)

Michonne only knew Rick 2 or 3 years, and to her, he's been dead 6 years.

Now contrast that with Rick, whos longtime wife Lori dies, horribly, and hes in complete lust with Pete the Wifebeater's wife 1.5 years later and definitely ready to move on with living his life.

Same ZA universe.

My condolence on your husband's death. The talking to a late partner isnt the issue.

In this ZA universe, there seems to be a bias of which alpha character gets to move on with their life, based on gender.

Hope Im wrong.

Loose long hair can actually be very practical when you’re working the fields out in the sun all day - it helps keep both sunburn AND mosquitoes off the back of your neck. :)

Haven't we long since ascertained there are no mosquitoes in the South, not even in this perpetual summer? And long hair is extremely hot and uncomfortble on the back of the neck. I'd opt for very short, or stick it in a bun and scrounge a straw hat somewhere.

RE: Garbage people as Homage to Star Trek:

Cant' be tribbles. Tribbles relieve stress and make people happy! Must be the ep. "Miri" where those kids lived on a wrecked planet where everyone dies after going through puberty. "Bonk on your head, bad kid! Bonk bonk!"

Different people grieve differently.  In the same way I've never much liked trying to quantify which character lost more and thus deserved to be sad, I'm not really a fan of trying to quantify Michonne's or anyone else's sadness either.  None of these people should be remotely functional given everything they've seen and lost and everything that's happened to them.   So if one thing vs. another is the thing that breaks them, well, I don't find that wholly unrealistic.

The show's kind of in a no-win situation with this anyway.  The problem is the time jump.  It may feel implausible or maudlin to us for our original cast to still be stuck on Rick's death six years later, but some viewers are already unhappy we didn't get to see them properly grieve him with the immediate skip ahead.  So to catch up with them next episode all humming along fine and dandy with nary a mention would probably be upsetting to people too.  They pretty much have to acknowledge the huge Rick-shaped hole left in the story before they can move forward.

Deanna's husband was an architect which is how he was able to put up the walls in Alexandria and keep them up. Now he could design a house and would likely have some knowledge about how to build one. This reminds me how ridiculous it is that Henry wants to go to train with Earl to learn how to fix the boiler. Uh? Since when do blacksmiths know how to fix boilers? Hard to believe that they haven't encountered a plumber either. It is pretty convenient that the people still alive or involved in the group don't have any skills or knowledge about how build, fix or repair the most important things that they need now that the infrastructure is collapsing. They don't even seem to have any teachers so the children are not in school. You would think that they know that it is important to have the children in school learning math, science, social science, history, arts, before all of this critical knowledge is lost.

I’ve seen how they keep people with a shred of medical background alive. They definitely squandered those people at every turn. What I’d expect would be raiding sources of information, writing down things people with important knowledge know and lots of apprenticeships going on. Judith has that textbook, they got given the magical rebuilding book and Edith has the medical apprenticeship. Huzzah?

I don't know why they haven't raided libraries and brought all of the books back and built there own library to put them in.

Remember when they went to the veterinary clinic and merely picked and chose only the drugs Hershel told them to get, instead of sweeping everything off the shelves? That made so much sense.

Isn't that what they always do? We saw and heard no grieving over Glenn or even over Carl. Didn't we decide that's because the writers/PTB have no concept of profound human emotions, don't know how to write them so the best option is just skipping over all that stuff?

Standing next to Daryl would be even more helpful.

I would be gathering and hoarding everything at the point they’re at, but reading material seems like such an obvious thing to get your hands on and protect as soon as you can. Education, human history, useful skills, kill time, psychology, science, etc. Even just a reference to raiding or making a library would do. I’m not going to be pissed about missing out on watching the gang and assorted randoms going through a library and a Chapters.

I feel like they’ve been stupidly specific about drugs a few times. No, grab everything and sort through it later.

The only person I found to be intellectual to this level was Milton. I recall he had a notebook where he not only recorded his attempts at walker rehabilitation to see if he could bring back the walkers to a living emotional being; but also recording their "battle," telling Rick's crew that it was important to record their experiences as they'll someday be history.

Otherwise there's Eugene (meh, it's all already in his head for some reason or other) .

I have a few books at home of natural remedies and "the complete worst case scenario survival handbook." I love the latter and wish to collect the whole series. Entertaining, sometimes funny and def useful. When I pass these books on the shelf, I always think they're a couple of the few things I'd take with me in case the world came crashing down.

I don’t think it’s an intellectual thing. It’s a “this could be useful” thing. If they don’t want to preserve things on quantum physics then okay, it’s a loss but it probably won’t be useful for a long time if ever again. Math, physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, botany, etc. get that stuff. History would be becoming more and more relevant to look at how they did things and what went wrong.

God. I’d be some psychopathic hoarder in the apocalypse.

Excellent posts; might want to carry the discussion over to this thread, though, so the discussion doesn’t get orphaned in an episode thread.  I believe some of the points y’all are raising have been the subject of previous discussion in that thread as well.  :)

Finally watched this just out of curiosity to see where the show is going.  I did laugh at Rosita's remark to Eugene to not be getting weird when they needed to escape.  Other than that, just a bland setup episode.  This really is a spin-off show now using the same old title.  Walking Dead: TNG.  Kang is again doing a good job of making the characters a little more human and believable than Gimple did, but this still isn't high drama.  Just mildly entertaining but no longer must see viewing.

It has been years and they never did rebuild that bridge? Well this rebuilding civilisation is going great. Or was the bridge not that important afterall?

Eugene rather than call out "Rosita could you put back the ladder? I accidentally kicked it over." just decides to jump and break his leg. After their horses ran away, because they didn't tie them up well, of course. Yep, this show is still as dumb as ever.
