S03.E03: No Good Deed

Man this show is soooo much better than Iron Fist. One day and I am about to start episode 4. Iron Fist s2 has been out since early September and I have only watched 8 episodes. It just seems so much smarter and adult oriented.

Man that Agent Poindexter guy is super creepy what with the bartender stalking. Yes I know who he is.

Letting Fisk out of prison is super stupid. I mean if you want him to have more protection just move him to isolation ib supermax or something (or the raft). Also how did Fisk get a waterproof ankle monitor but Scott Lang had to wrap his in plastic?

Yeah, letting Fisk not just out of prison but on house arrest in a super nice penthouse was super dumb of the FBI. There were other places he could go, places that didn't make it seem like they were giving Fisk a luxury vacation. No wonder most of New York is pissed off. Despite us also getting to see the FBI's side through Ray and his boss, it could have been done more discreetly and in a better way.

So, this Dex guy seems really messed up, almost Fisk-esque, except Dex seems to be anti-Fisk for the moment. However, since I don't read the comics, I don't know what his story is going to be, so I am very interested at the moment.

Of course Karen will fight for the story. It was good to see her get some answers.

So, Foggy and Matt reunite, only for Foggy to witness his best friend's mental breakdown bit by bit. I enjoyed seeing Foggy's conflicting emotions. Yes, Matt, you are super dumb and you think Foggy is going to give up just like that? Nonetheless, it'll be an interesting power struggle. Matt seems insistent on taking himself down, and it seems like it could work. With Sister Maggie warning him to not become a monster, I fear that that's exactly what is going to happen. What worries me more if Fisk potentially getting into the good graces of New York through the actions of Daredevil. I also wonder what will happen to Vanessa.

I did enjoy the return of white suit Fisk. It's always interesting to see them dressing him like an angel when he's truly not.

So, Matt's actually hallucinating a taunting Fisk now?  That ain't healthy!  Then again, nothing about Matt is healthy now.  And he's gone full-tilt into his "To take out Fisk, I must fully commit to my mission and push those I love away!" ways, and reunites with Foggy, only to be all "We're done!  I'm just Daredevil now!  Oh, and could you please lie to Karen for me, even though it will probably cause you much turmoil?" about it.  Love you, Matt, but you can be the worst friend/boyfriend sometimes.

Figured Poindexter was lying about his bartender girlfriend, but I didn't predict that she was actually a real person and he's stalking her.  Creepy!

I do think Fisk truly loves Vanessa is the main reason he is doing a lot of this, but I'm with Karen that there is more to this and he has other motives as well.

The FBI really should have found a less fancy safe house, because even if it is for protection reasons, the optics just don't look good here.  Or was this part of Fisk's negotiations?

I think Fisk negotiated the penthouse, because he secretly owns the hotel in which it's located. He has some plan cooked up, I'm sure.

I love this portrayal of Fisk/Kingpin. He's brutal, ruthless, and manipulative, yes, but he has recognizable human motives.

I liked them showing how Fisk being released really impacted on all three of our heroes, that it was just as upsetting to Foggy and Karen as it was to Matt. Easy to forget how involved they were in bringing Fisk down, in season 1. And that they each attacked the problem in their own way - Karen wants to write a story (and probably ruin her career in the process), Foggy wants to use his legal weight to put pressure on the DA, and Matt wants to throw his life into the meatgrinder to bring Fisk down again.

I didn't expect Matt to just reveal himself to Foggy, especially not for him to then say 'I'm not back, I'm just Daredevil now.' It felt more like a cry for help, than sincerely warning them. Because of course Foggy and Karen would know Fisk was a danger to them, and of course they won't back off, just because Matt tells them to. Dude needs an intervention.

The Fisk hallucinations were corny, but probably the best way of showing Matt's internal monologue as he blames himself for everything, and fixates on Fisk's release as the proof he did it all wrong. I don't mind voice overs, as long as the actor doing them has the chops, and I think Charlie Cox could have done the Fisk lines himself, and had it work. Fisk, meanwhile, is tortured by silence, by not knowing where Vanessa is, or what's happened to her. Trapped in an ivory tower, with no knowledge (that we know of) about what's going on outside.

I honestly don't know if Fisk does have a larger agenda than just Vanessa, or whether Matt is so blinkered that he can't see Fisk as having a motive that isn't about furthering his criminal agenda. But between him and the Albanians, it seems like the New York FBI office is going to have a real shortage of healthy, active agents.

I really like how Charlie Cox plays Matt pretending he can see. It would be really easy for an actor to just slip back into their normal body and facial language, but Cox still has the slightly exaggerated head movements, the overly wide eyes, not making eye contact.

Dex certainly doesn't seem like the most stable individual. I liked the implication that law enforcement officers might be pissed that vigilantes get to to stuff that they are never allowed to do, but still get praised.

Wilson Bethel really looks like Billy Crudup, to the extent that I kept thinking that's who it was.

I couldn't stand the hallucination of Fisk, I hate that trope so much. It kept taking me out of the show. I really hope he was just having internal discussion and didn't actually think he was there or something. I was disappointed how short his reunion was with Foggy. There is no way Matt believes he (and Karen) would ever let this go. I hope that Foggy is able to somehow get through to Matt at least that he doesn't have to do this alone. I hope Foggy tells Karen the truth and it doesn't drag on much longer.

Dex is creepy. I honestly thought it was like he went to a bar and "the girl" was going to be his drink. I didn't see the stalking thing coming.

I hated this and fast forwarded. I also hated fast forwarding any part of this show. I was so looking forward to it. So far overall it's pretty solid for me but the ghost thing really didn't do it for me. Maybe Fisk is dead and it was a ghost haunting Matt. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn't mind it that much, although I did wonder what exactly what was going on in Matt's mind with the Fisk visions and what he would be seeing. Since he is blind and so even with his powers I am not sure he would be able to see Fisk and know what he looks like right down to the colour of his suit.

I don’t understand all the angst over moving Fisk. Nadeem said last episode that ten intel brought down the Albanian leadership. Where is the news coverage of that? And why aren’t we seeing more intel from Fisk? The “penthouse” is an empty big room. The show is ignoring logic for the sake of plot.

That said, I love Fisk. What a much better villain than anyone else on these Marvel TV shows. I like how he isn’t a moustache twirler. And if Matt really knew Fisk, he would know what Fisk’s motivation is. That’s what makes Fisk so different. And who is this Dex guy?

First you break his heart, then you steal his wallet? Not cool, Matt.

Boo to Karen's editor for setting her up with his nephew without her knowing. Yay to finally being annoyed with her!

Broccoli on pizza--BLECH!

Did the writers know JESSICA JONES was going to use the same trope of villain hallucination?

Since I am not binge watching but more like a daily syndication type of schedule these years after the fact when I saw the Fisk Ghost all that I can think of was Jessica Jones just  did that. And this just days after watching the villain in Iron Fist 2 seemingly doing the same thing as Punisher from DareDevil 2 only his superpower didn't allow him to do it as efficiently as Frank Castle's machineguns.

For the Defenders as a whole it was like the same story told with just a different martial arts style. Maybe Jessica Jones being the most different than the boys, along with Colleen and Frank

I've had enough arguments in my head with people and if I had to represent them visually that is how I'd do it. So I don't automatically think Matt is hallucinating. I do like Foggy "I'm 75% sure you aren't a hallucination." You see, everyone does it. Stealing the wallet is really cold, though.
