S05:E06: Air Drop

Recommended Posts

If you don’t have $.10, you are shown the door in this new US.

How did Kelsie escape after getting hit by a car? I guess the owner got the hot dog back, felt proud/went back to the store, didn't bother call for an ambulance or police and just left her cut and bruised on the pavement.

Those soldiers didn’t see or hear a large package landing near them?

Where did the battleship go? Maybe it's a ghost.

I am so glad Sasha braved it out with that “deep” cut.

Chandler goes all John Rambo to heal his own wound, while Sasha manages to airdrop out of a plane looking as put together as ever.

Sailing the NJ directly into the mouth of that harbor was just plain stupid -- in broad daylight no less.  They know it's an Iowa-class battleship with 16-inch guns -- that's what took the big hunk out of the NJ bow a couple of episodes ago -- and it's huge, so where did it go ?  I'm not giving Tavo enough credit to pull the battleship fakeout.  Unless Tavo also found a cloaking device.

Did we really have to sit through watching Cuban redshirt piss on the plants ?

Every season of this gets worse.  Season 1 was pretty good - but now we have what the poster ahead of me said.

I was really hoping Martinez was going to save his friends son... and end this dictator too.

Why did Kelsey decide to turn her phone on knowing it was being tracked?

Here's another stupid question -- if the US is at war with Gran Columbia, why do they still have interconnected cell phone systems between the two countries ?
CyberEnsign says he swept the cell towers in BOTH countries looking for Kelsie's cell phone.  Even in CyberEnsign's display where they locked into Kelsie's cell phone, it showed that the call originated in Columbia.

It also said that the time of the text message was 5:38am.  It was awfully bright out for 5:38am.
Does CyberEnsign never sleep ?

Well, Aunt Kelsi is a lot worse than we thought. Her daughter's probably better off though.

Wolf's leg almost got shot off and now he's parachuting out of planes.  Is he supposed to be  some kind of superhero?

Gustavo is nucking futz. Hope his wife/girlfriend Melisandre doesn't convince him that his son is a traitor.

She probably just slapped some BB cream on it. She probably doesn't go on even short missions without a small makeup bag. Priorities.

I always wonder why people stand in line, waiting to be executed.  There's all of them, and one guy with a pistol.  What do you have to lose?

Sasha really laid one on Chandler at the end, there.  It's good to be the king.

CyberEnsign was looking really upset that Team Tavo hoodwinked him. Is he hiding something? And did that battleship really hit a fast moving aircraft with a naval artillery round?

My DVR cut out just as Kelsi was answering her phone.  What happened, if anything?  I knew she had been tracked.

You missed last week's episode Wolf is a weapon! Beyond that he was a pre plague Australian equivalent to a US Navy SEAL. and making a character a SEAL in this century is to give him superhuman abilities

This show gets stranger every season and with every episode.

Kelsie got hit head-on by a car, she gets away with a cut on her hand. For a double-agent, was she never warned by her Colombian contacts who were supposed to be tech savvy enough to initiate a cyber war that cellphones can be tracked?

A weapons cache lands in the middle of an apartment courtyard in dead of night, no one heard a thing. That shipment was half the size of that courtyard. Did no one hear Danny Green counting out loud when they were cutting down the straps?

Half of that shipment probably contained Sasha’s make up supplies.  I’m curious too as to how many lines of dialogue Azima gets every episode. Wolf is a superhuman of few words. Seems like his love interest is a superhuman of ever fewer words.

Chandler gets stabbed by a piece of metal from a burning airplane, he can stand and walk as if nothing happened. At least they put enough soot on his face to make him look as if he was trapped in a burning airplain for a few minutes and spent the night next to a bonfire. But he gets a big kiss at the end.

I forgot about whatever happened on the ship except that if you knew that that was the only way out of the harbor, why would you go that way too?

Martinez is gonna kill Tavo with that dagger. It would be a shame if someone else kills him first.

Speaking of super SEALs. If Lt Greene, an actual SEAL, last jumped from an aircraft 7 years ago when did Chief Miller pick up that skill? And they saved their one S bomb for Miller's "holy shit" at that moment?

Wasn't there a 5 year time jump?  Green wouldn't have needed to train and re-certify, but that would have given a lot of other people time to learn lots of things.

I've thought about this.  The benefit is that you do not subject yourself to a dragged-out and much more torturous death.

Nothing happened, but she bolts without her sister seeing or hearing her.  She's obviously an Iowa-class ghost.

Now, that right there is funny!

Why in hell was Chandler aboard the plane?  No personal beacon?  The plane had made the drop and changed course back to water.  Chandler ends up on the beach, with parachute.  Impossible for him to have swimmed to shore from any distance whatever, especially with a chute.

Again, we got a single shot from a well-outfitted foe.

Seems to me, the single biggest piece of intel crucial to the interests of the USA military was that battle ship.  We saw a savvy president asking cogent questions.  He did not ask, along the way of the intervening weeks as the NJ was being refitted, about the biggest surface weapon known on earth?

If Tavo and Martinez are perfectly aware that they would lose a war of attrition, how on earth did the USA leadership not make that very same assessment?  The greatest advantage America has enjoyed is the arsenal of democracy.  Given the invasion of Mexico, there is no question of a lack of political support within the USA for a major commitment to cranking out more planes and all manner of arms.  So....wait them out.  But. noooooo.  we choose a strategy of invasion?  Seriously?

I dropped this after season 3 but saw it was on the other night, so decided to check in here to see the general consensus on it....doesn't look like I missed much by skipping out on the rest of it. Shame, the show was kind of guilty fun for maybe 1-1.5 seasons.

I think they oughta send Sasha to sniff out Tavo and "sanction" his little nut job self. She's the resident superwoman after all - punctilious polyglot, whiz-bang weapons specialist, crackerjack computer expert, lingually limber tonsil jockey, and, most importantly, she can flawlessly apply her makeup whilst under heavy fire - so she'd be my first choice as bloodhound-slash-assassin for that particular mission. Screw all of this JSOC shit; all that we've seen so far from the combined military force is a whole lotta group masturbation. (And do drunk guys really pee on a tree with their eyes closed? What's up with that? What if they accidentally pee on a bee hive? The subsequent retaliatory apiary assault on one's tender little tallywhacker would make a herpes outbreak seem downright ticklish by comparison. Talk about chafing one's willy! *shudders* Sorry, guys; it had to be said. But the fact is, and the other ladies here will back me up on this one, we gals always look before we micturate al fresco. We have a care for the environment and for the little critters that populate it.)

And while we're on the subject of dumb pricks, why is it that the more insane TV tyrants are portrayed to be, the more dedicated are his followers? Even after Tavo's narcissistic, sociopathic, paranoid rant at his Smokin' Hot Number Two Guy, replete with threats, recriminations and gross rationalizations, SH#2G reaffirmed his commitment to the psychotic former potty porter by killing all of those innocent people. Which, of course, makes SH#2G somewhat less smokin' hot, because he, too, drank the Kool-Aid; nevertheless, I feel compelled to point out that, if I were a 'shipper - and I really hate 'shippers - but, if I were one, I would definitely 'ship SH#2G and Tavo's wife BIG TIME. But I'd lose the kid; I don't trust 10-year-old boys with Jackie-O bouffant hair-do's. Besides, he looked too much like my ex-husband did when he was that age, and everyone knows what a worthless, cretinous, asshole my ex is. But I digress...

After Sasha has dispensed with Tavo, she should then be tasked with going after Kelsi (my closed captioning spells her name with an "i," so that's how I'm spelling it, dammit!). In any event, I would love to see an honest-to-God, girl-balls-to-the-walls, hair-pulling, bitch-slapping, hormonally-driven smack-down betwixt the two. They could forever solve the Great Tampon vs. Minipad Debate, a polarizing, hot-button issue that has plagued women since the invention of cotton.

"Cloaking device." Ha! Could be, huh? My thought, after watching that scene, was holodeck tech, similar to what we saw in ST:TNG "Unification, Part ll." But I do love your critical thinking skills, Big O.

That scene bothered me, too. When Tavo held up that very large knife (or whatever it was) I was hoping Martinez (a/k/a SH#2G) would snatch it out of Tavo's hand and eviscerate him, whispering "Don Corleone says 'buenos dias, m*th*rf*ck*r!'" or some such.

I'd comment on this one, but I've already slagged off on Sasha enough for one day. Good one, anyway.

You make a very good point here; however, I believe the thinking behind the "invasion strategy" premise is that we, the US, are no longer a super power and are still vulnerable. Another argument may be that Tavo is not "unifying" Central and South America; he's conquering them, or otherwise forcing or coercing them into becoming part of Gran Colombia. Let's face it, Tavo's tactics haven't exactly been subtle in his dealing with other nations. But we, as a nation (and when it suits us) have always tried to look out for the little guy, those who are vulnerable to exploitation and unable to protect themselves from those who would seek to "govern" them. Plus, Tavo launched a vicious, unprovoked attack on the US and is an on-going threat, one that must be neutralized.  Besides, we wouldn't have a show without murder, mayhem, bombs exploding, planes getting shot down, Navy ships being sunk, and other mischief making of that sort. Otherwise, your assessment of things is spot on; good thinking. Cheers!

So is Whiz Kid who took over for Granderson secretly working for Gustavo?  No one knows what he's doing anyway.  I guess he would have to be working with Kelci too.  I've probably been watching conspiracy theory TV shows too long.

Ugh, Kelci - I don't care that she gave up her kid to her sister and has a sad backstory.  Don't care, don't care.  The only interesting thing about her was going from being hit by a car to magically turning up in sister's backyard with only a little cut on her hand.

I'm always entertained by a good cauterize your own would scene (you go , Chandler) but less by men peeing scenes, of course embellished with sound effects.  Yuck!

It was pretty funny though how the large box of weapons landed on top of a building, complete with webbing dangling down, and no one heard or saw a thing.   Well there was a party going on with just a few people, after all.

I'm so tired of hearing the bad guys drone on an on (thanks, Walking Dead).  Wish we could just have a bad guy who wants to rule everything and proudly admits it.  "Hey I like being in power!  I don't have to do manual labor and people bring me whatever I want" The End.

I'm also curious how an air drop of a large box, which went out directly after the para teams, ended up miles away from where they landed.  Even without the shootdown of the cargo plane, that would have happened.  Poor logistical planning.

A sailor was steering the chute remotely from Nathan James when the C-130 was hit. I will head canon that the data relay was lost so the  cargo just dropped while the Marines steered to the planned landing zone. Then again they were not on oxygen when they jumped so they couldn't have been high enough to fly very far.

I was just surprised that Tavo didn't kill Martinez after Martinez told the tale that Tavo "used to be a janitor at Disney World, could barely speak Spanish when he arrived in Columbia, and his brother had to teach him to speak Spanish properly".

I wonder how many followers of Tavo know that story.

So now I'm thinking that Tavo probably is the father of Kelsie's daughter/niece and they probably met at Disney World. It's something right out of a soap opera but I wouldn't put it past the show's writers at this point.

This bugs me too. Miller does not wear Parachutist Badge on his uniform, not even the lead sled. Now he is doing military free-fall? MFF is a complex and technical subject. One can not just take a one day ground school to be able to do it.

I think I answered this above - there was a 5 year time jump before this season.  I'd assume that everyone learned a lot of things in 5 years, badges or not.

No, when Miller did his visit to the Southern family, he wore his Service Dress White and he clearly did not wear Parachutist Badge, and he did not wear anything else on the secondary position. OTOH, if you think that a member of the military does not wear a qualification badge that they are qualified and authorized to wear, then I do not know what to tell you. And again, MFF is a very technical subject which service members need to be qualified. It is not something one can pick up at local skydiving club.

It's a fictional world.  I guess I just assume that it's not the same as it is now, or realistic compared to what we know in the real world.  The show is a world where 75% of the population died 5-6 years ago, and they barely even had a military at all.  The capitol is in St. Louis, isn't it?  It' isn't real.  Plus, I'd be surprised if they still do everything exactly the same as before the apocalypse anyway.
