Found this on iTunes tonight. It's been there since 28 Oct. It's part of the Season Pass and I never watched it before.

Thank you so much for sharing, that was really good.

@SueB, thanks for posting that clip. It was really good. I got the impression that she'll be sticking around after this season as well. I hope she does.

I have a lot of empathy for Mary. And I'm interested to see where the writers go with her. They could've made her the ultimate sympathetic character yet they chose not to go that route. I don't know if that was a conscious decision or more plot-driven.

Some of her actions have bothered me, but I'm glad the writers seem to show interest in her as a character in her own right and not just as an extension of the boys.

My thinking is that they were trying to create conflict by Mary acting like she did and with a lack of transparency.  If Mary's actions are understandable to the boys, then there's no conflict.

But I think they threw Mary's character under the bus by doing it that way.

In my recent binge-watch of S12 (to date), I found Mary to be MUCH more understandable.  I also saw a real SHIFT after American Nightmare The Foundry in her actions.  She really withdrew IMO.  It's more evident when you watch them back to back.  This is consistent with what they are saying in the video.  But we don't see it all at once, we see it metered out week by week (until the DVD or Netflix comes out).  So, this doesn't play as well IMO.

ETA: I did a little research based on "costume-fu", and it appears that they filmed this little extra DURING the filming of The Foundry based on the boy's suits.  But Mary's clothing is from 12.2 and her hair is from 12.3.  So, I'm confused.  But it was released the day AFTER The Foundry, so I think it all syncs up to that time period from the actor's POV.

Anyone know when the S12 dvd will be released?  I don't usually pay attention to such things, since I'm usually a season or two (or more) behind in buying show dvds anyway - but I am interested in getting this one and seeing some of the behind-the-scenes stuff.

Usually in the fall. But I'm not sure if it will be different this year since the CW put all their shows up for streaming on Netflix early this year.

ETA: or what @SueB said.

You can pre-order it on Amazon right now.

Behind Flash for sure, Supergirl probably but I`m not sure about Arrow. Legends might be ahead, though.

I thought Arrow had 1.7 million but I could be wrong. I forgot about legends. SPN may have been 5th then.

Yup, 8 days after the finale for all the CW shows now. :)

Well, dang - wish I'd known that before I preordered the dvd.  Lol!  I still want the behind the scenes stuff, but also really wanted to watch without commercials.  I figured the new season wouldn't be on Netflix until later this summer.  Well, now I can watch uninterrupted (commercials really do take the momentum out of shows) while I wait on my dvd.  :)

I purchase each season on Amazon so I can stream each episode the next morning with no commercials (on a 120" screen. Yes I'm blessed).

I find I see so much more of the facial acting on a big screen and it's easier to notice all the little things. Episodes flow much better without the commercials. I always like them a little better to a lot better when they aren't broken up so bad by commercials.

It was part of their deal with Netflix.  I  used to think it was a bad idea for the CW  but the more I thought I about it  I think it's probably not so bad, if live watch ratings are not the be all and end all of how the CW values it's programming now.

.It's great for Netflix users who no longer have to wait 5 months to watch the entire season in a couple of weeks  before the season premieres in October. This format also gives non-binge watchers time to catch up over the hiatus before the season premieres in October. For the CW, it also drives users to the CW app, which has ads, if viewers want to watch the most recent 5 eps.  It's not so great for folks who watched via Hulu.

Viewers who watched live over the winter but are out and about doing other things in April and May, or not keen on the SL, can wait a few weeks and watch those final few episodes without ads. If folks didn't tune in to watch those final episodes live but binge a week later, it's another week of renewed buzz with the finales not being so far out of viewers minds they don't care and are still interested to discuss it on SM and various forums. I'm expecting some folks who wait to watch to start arriving to comment after this weekend.

ETA: And for those watching over the hiatus, it's also ripe for SM buzz over the summer too.

I purchase the episodes on Amazon the next night, too.  Though I certainly don't get to watch on a 120" screen!  Holy moly!!  I thought I was living large with my 42".  I may have to upgrade...  Anyway, I absolutely agree that the episodes come off 1,000 times better without commercials.  I pay for the episode on Amazon, and I pay for Netflix, so I certainly hope they're counting more than just Nielsen households to calculate actual viewers.

When the Blu-ray comes out hasn't changed has it? They usually don't come out until a few weeks before the new season so that gives you a long wait @Wayward Son

It does and we often have to wait longer as the Blu Rays are typically released in October here. I've actually started to purchase the season pass lately! I've done this for seasons 11-12, which makes checking show facts while out and about easier haha.

Kind of sad that  I don't watch SPN for the actors looks. However, if I want company to watch an episode with me, all I have to say is "Have you ever seen Jensen Ackles on a 120" screen?"  Never had anyone turn me down yet. :-)

I thought Amazon counts on the + viewers. Netflix is a whole different ballgame as SPN gets their money from the contract for mass viewing instead of each time someone watches an episode. I may be totally wrong though.

If the CW is taking into account Netflix views, they're smart - and probably see a pretty big uptick on their 'ratings' that way.  (Really, imo, any network should include Netflix, Hulu, etc. views.  It's a different world.)

Sorry?  The entire season is already on Netflix - including the last 5 eps, so I'm not sure I'm understanding this correctly.  Also, no CW shows were on Hulu at all this past year.  I had to watch entirely by the CW app.

I pay for Netflix (that was probably pretty obvious - lol!) and if I also decide to buy the dvd/blu-ray I just can't quite justify buying the season on Amazon too.  (And I have Amazon prime.)  I'll just suffer through the limited commercials on the CW stream.  At least I don't think it's as bad as 'live'.

Before CW struck this deal with Netflix last year,  CW shows used to be on Hulu and eps would go up on Hulu the day after they aired and I think they stacked 5 episodes at a time, like the CW app does now. My point was that during the season, if a viewer doesn't want to wait to watch all 23 episodes after the finale, they could no longer do it through Hulu. So instead they could go to the CW app to keep up

The problem is that I've been pretty much streaming everything for the past 3 or 4 years.  SPN is the only show that I watch "live", and it kills me.  You get spoiled with no commercials, so when you actually have to watch something that is full of them, it's almost unbearable.  The only reason I watch live now, honestly, is so I can join in the episode conversations without having to wait until the next night.  I don't buy the HD version on Amazon, so I pay $1.99 per week.  It's basically the cost of a cup of coffee, so I can live with that.

I don't own any of the DVD's.  I can't tell you the last DVD I bought.  I know there are extras to be seen that you don't get with Netflix, so maybe one day I'll look into it.  I was going to try taking some out of the library, but I think I only did that once.  Not enough hours in the day to do what I'd like to do.

I went to a benefit for Random Acts last May to watch the finale on a full-sized theater screen - now that's a Jensen to behold! They also had a 67 Impala decked out just like Baby to take pictures of/with. Great evening for a great cause.

Two new featurettes were released on Friday for iTunes.  I presume they'll be on the DVD:

MqirGOs.jpg

Both are clearly completed post the finale with cast interviews towards the end of the season.

Hunters: Covers the individuals that Sam and Dean have worked with in the past. There is a TON of prop "porn", GORGEOUS shots of weapons and tools interspersed with the usual episode bits and writer/cast commentary.  Focus (IMO) is how each brought something different to the fight. Sam & Dean, however, operate at a whole different level.  Where normal hunters work individual monster hunts, Sam and Dean save the world.  They work against higher stakes and perform feats that no one else does.  Which is why they are legendary.

BMoL: Puts a wrap on the story-line from a S12 perspective. Much about the Black & White code versus the American 'shades of grey' and how our boys are the better heroes.  Leaves us in a state of detente.  Definitively place Hess as one of the few of the 'council of elders' who make all the decisions.  Confirm the notion that Mary hunted with them to rid the world of monsters for her boys. Indicates that Sam & Dean were tempted by the tech but it was the efficiency of the monster kills, the possibility of a different world that really drew in Sam.  Ultimately rejects the 'ends justifies the means' logic.  Toni is a sociopath, Ketch is a psychopath.

I enjoyed both.  Of course since the view portrayed is one of a cohesive perspective and ones that fits my own interpretation, I was bound to like these specials.

What the hell. It says it's out of stock already!?

I guess it's because folks could buy up to 10. That sucks.  People are just gonna turn around and sell these for twice or three times as much on Ebay or something.

Bummer

Guess I'll call my local HT tomorrow and see if they have any in stock.

Dean and Baby is so damn cute, I can hardly stand it.

I just finished reading Family Don’t End With Blood: Cast and Fans on How Supernatural Has Changed Lives. Amazon kept recommending it to me, so I finally broke down and bought it. Amazon clearly knows me. I really enjoyed reading people’s different perspectives about the show and fandom. The cast members’ chapters seem very sincere, and I think that shows how much they care about the show, each other, and fans. The chapters from fans are great too, with people showing how this show changed their lives for the better. Rob’s chapter about his stroke was definitely the most poignant part of the book for me, but Jared’s chapter was incredibly moving too. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who loves this show! Has anyone else read it?

Me! *yes, I know, no surprise*

Jared's chapter blew me away.  And I also agree about Rob's.

Jensen does an intro for those of you curious.

Jared's chapter was so raw and honest and terrifying.  Rob's was a miracle.  I loved the whole book.
