Resurrection In the Media

Recommended Posts

According to the Entertainment Weekly fall previewThe Langston family reunion gets infinitely stranger when Henry's mother and Jacob's grandmother (Game of Thrones' Michelle Fairley) returns from the dead to kick off the new season. "'Things take a darker turn in season 2,' says Executive Producer Aaron Zelman. Omar Epps' outsider federal agent Bellamy also takes a more active role. 'He's not just going to stand by and watch anymore,'" says Epps.

After hitting a series ratings low last week, Resurrection manages to beat that and set a new series low -- 1.4 (18-49) rating, 3 (18-49) share, and 5 million viewers, down from last week's 1.4 rating, 4 share and 5.47 million viewers.

By comparison, in the same timeslot, The Good Wife had twice as many viewers, but identical rating and share.

Resurrection takes another hit and sets a series low -- again -- losing 600,000 viewers from last week.  Dropping to 1.2 (18-49) rating, 3 (18-49) share, and 4.39 million viewers, down from last week's 1.4 rating, 3 share and 5.00 million viewers.  Which means it has dropped over 1.1 million viewers in the last 2 weeks.  Ouch !!

So now it's a toss up to be cancelled this season. That will be a shame, I would really like to see if they are going somewhere with this storyline.

It's too late to re-work the shows now, but really, the whole Tom and his look alike harem is such a dud.

I guess being sidelined for two weeks really built up anticipation for this week's return. Who am I kidding -- no one cared and the ratings dropped like a stone, losing nearly a million viewers from 3 weeks ago. 18-49 rating dropped from 1.2 to 0.8, 18-49 share dropped from 3 to 2, and total viewers dropped from 4.54 million to 3.57 million, which are all new series lows.  It lost nearly 3 million viewers from its 8pm lead-in.

While Resurrection's ratings were up week over week, it is still the low point in the ratings for ABC on Sunday nights.  Up from 0.8 to 1.0 in 18-49 ratings, up from 2 to 3 in the 18-49 share, and up from 3.57 to 3.92 million viewers.  I suspect it will probably be adjusted down in the final ratings.

But I assume it will be back on 1/4 as they said? I wondered why there were no previews since the shows must certainly be filmed by now. I have no doubt this is the last season, but I am still wishing they would give us some type of wrap up  come January. Not likely, but I keep hopiing.

Well, after Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and HTGAWM had season finales, I thought all the prime time shows were done for awhile too and it didn't occur to me that they'd still be going on.  I happened to tune in at 9:30pm Sunday night to find there was a new episode and then realized there'd been one the week before then.  Just caught up with them on Hulu Plus.

Despite directing that seems to have inertia as a focus, I really want to just follow the story to see where they have been going with this and I wouldn't have missed an episode had I known it was still on.

Ratings increased from the previous episode, but not by much.  Then again, there was no where to go but up from the dismal ratings back on Dec. 9, and still managed to lose 3.7 million viewers from its lead-in, Galavant.

Episode to episode ratings changes are: 0.8 to 1.0 18-49 ratings, 2 to 3 18-49 share, and 3.57 to 4.10 million total viewers.

Resurrection ratings return to tying series lows: 0.8 18-49 rating, 2 18-49 share, and 3.07 million total viewers (which is approx. half a million fewer total viewers than the previous low set three episodes ago on Nov. 30).  Ouch !

No surprise. It was on opposite the Golden Globes and Galavant. And that's just on network TV.

It wasn't on opposite Galavant.  Good old Gal was Resurrection's lead-in, which apparently didn't help it any.

Oops. I meant it was on opposite Good Wife and Golden Globes. Even stiffer competition. Regardless, I have figured since the beginning that this show would be like The 4400. It seems weird supernatural mysteries don't have endings, they just stop.

Maybe they should have put it on in the summer with Dome and Extant.  There might have been a little more patience for its plodding and low ratings when there's nothing else on anyway.  Oh well.  Apparently Omar Epps was on Jimmy Kimmel last night.  I wish I could have seen that.

I happened to catch the last minute of it, and Kimmel was congratulating him on renewal. Is that right?

Really!?  I think Omar Epps was on Jimmy Kimmel a year ago when they had been renewed for season 2, but he was also supposed to be on last night and from what I gathered there had still been no official word on renewal/cancellation and all Omar Epps could say was that there were 2 episodes remaining to be aired.  I'm so confused!

1. On Twitter, while much of the cast was hoping for renewal support, Frances Fisher tweeted responses:

   a.  https://twitter.com/Frances_Fisher/status/559672588503244800

"Not enough people care about #Resurrection That's the truth. We were killed by a bad time slot. RIP"

   b.  https://twitter.com/Frances_Fisher/status/559681021231132672
When asked "Won't it be back?"  Fisher answered, "Won't know till May."

2.   An article on the showrunner team responsible for both Marvel: Agent Carter and Resurrection

3.   Ratings show the "Season Finale" (ABC has been calling it that rather than Series Finale so far) up 25% over the previous episode.

And Revenge's ratings for that night were below Resurrection's...

So A & E is advertising The Returned beginning March 9th. I never watched the Series on Sundance because I dont get that chanel so I dont know of this is the same or not but I definitely plan to watch. Sorry to be off topic bit since Resurrection is not coming back in thought this might be of interest here.

That A & E series is the American remake (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230780/) of the original French series (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2521668/).

So, first there's the French series, The Returned.  Then there's the American "version" of the same type of story called Resurrection.  Now there's going to be an actual American series called The Returned, which I presume is based on the French series of the same name, but wasn't that already supposed to be Resurrection?  I'm so confused.

Believe or not it gets even more confusing because Resurrection was based on a book called 'The Returned' by Jason Mott (http://www.amazon.com/Returned-Jason-Mott/dp/0778315339) that is also about people coming back from the dead --- and has nothing to do with the French series. Hopefully this reduces the confusion.

2012 French TV series 'The Returned' was based on a 2004 French film of the same name (same name in French 'Les Revenants')

2014 US TV series 'Resurrection' based on the book 'The Returned' published in 2013

2015 US TV series 'The Returned' based on the 2012 French TV series 'The Returned'

@chlban -- you really should see the original French series.  It is haunting and creepy, visually compelling and the musical score is unique and awesome.  Here's a Wikipedia article about it -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Returned

The biggest difference between the US TV series 'Resurrection' and the French series 'The Returned' --

in the French series, it's not just people that come back from the dead.

@Hanahope -- hope that helps

So the show won't be coming back/ or resurrected?  How ironic. But I'm ok with it, there's too much too watch anyway.

Yeah but now we won't know who they are! :(
