S01.E04: Resupply

Good old Turk!  I love how he keeps kicking around no matter which infamous characters he crosses paths with (and gets his ass beaten by.)

Micro watching Sarah/his wife clearly crushing on Frank was all kinds of messed up.

Since it looks like Lewis won't be joining Russo and his Anvil group, I continue to wonder what is going on with him.  I'm worried for Curtis now that Lewis knows he was the one that talked Russo out of it.

Not exactly Dinah's best first mission as the boss, but at least she's still alive!  But I'm guessing they are setting it up for no one to believe her when she tries to tell everyone that it was Frank who was behind the hijacking.

Awesome car chase on the end and I agree that Ebon Moss-Bachrach is killing it as Micro.  His getting into Frank's face by telling him that he got his hands dirty was a perfect reaction.  Frank also has really good chemistry with Micro's wife.

I'll say one thing about Billy Russo, he really know how to give a great sales pitch to his potential employees.

Turk was pretty funny in his scene but Comic Frank definitely would have blown Turk's brains all over that shipping container.

I made it through 4 episodes, but I cannot get into this.  I was led to believe there would be Punishing in this series.   Instead, it's ham-handed messaging, and it's boring.

I'm bored, too. What is Frank even doing? He just seems to wander from scene to scene. I thought he was more driven than this.

He was more driven.  It's like he was a totally different character in Daredevil, which I loved.  When I heard he was getting his own series, I wondered if it would work, because maybe he would be best as the spice, not the main course.   And now they've changed him into something non-Punisher-like.  What is even the point?  And I couldn't care less about this Dinah character.  The Punisher has always been my college son's favorite comic character, and he also gave up on this.

I'm the same I made it through 4 episodes where I was nodding off during most of it. I don't even know if I'll finish the series, I finished Iron Fist mostly because the supporting characters were interesting. No one is interesting on this show and it's boring. That is not a good combination to keep me watching. Then again I was never as enamored with the Punisher on Daredevil as some others. I liked him well enough and thought he was a good foil to Daredevil, I didn't miss when him when the show switched focus to other storylines. Also considering the traffic here, it doesn't look like the Punisher works for everyone.

I didn't read Punisher comics, so all I have to go on is a cheesy movie and the Daredevil eps, but this is the episode where I knew I was invested in what happens next.  I like this slow burn drama, and it has me guessing.  I also like that they are spending real time on side characters.  I know it's going to end in tears with Lewis, but it's hard to predict how.

In some ways this has more in common with Jessica Jones that with the other Marvel series in that it is as much about the tortured characters as it is about action.

Comic book and movie Punisher was motivated by his family's death to declare war on all criminals, which is almost by definition never-ending.

What has driven Netflix Punisher was exacting revenge for those specifically responsible for killing his family. This Punisher thought he achieved that revenge by killing Schoonover and all the members of all the gangs. So what we are seeing in these early episode is what happens to a warrior when he thinks the war is over. I at least am cool with the change.

I liked that look at post war/revenge Castle. I liked how they used it to draw parallels to the Soldiers at Curtis' meetings.

There was a lot more depth to the story and character than I anticipated.

So...the opposite of the Punisher.

No, more a "pre-Punisher" than anything else.  Of course the first targets that Castle goes after are the ones directly responsible for his family's deaths.  While he tried to move on after getting that apparent revenge, he clearly can't.  It didn't take much to draw him into killing the construction workers.  Now he has a new set of targets.  He's getting intel on them and equipping up.  Presumably this season will finish that storyline and Frank will finally achieve his revenge.  And season 2 will find that it's not quite enough, that he has to stay at war to stay functional.  And that will be the real Punisher.
