I’m wondering if they are gonna pull the NK and his white walkers are actually the good guys all along and Bran AKA the Three Eyed Raven is the Villain type of ending 😳

That's one of the dumbest theories some people float, and there isn't anything in the text supporting it.  The White Walkers' activities in the show mostly aren't even focused on the Three Eyed Raven, and they go around indiscriminately massacring defenseless civilians.  What possible "good" motive could there be for turning poor little Ned Umber into a grotesque art project?

So, there are 5 episodes left and we know 1 must be focused on the battle which really means only 4 for the characters to navigate relationships, etc. as they build up for war.

That seems like so little time, but I guess their worlds are smaller now with fewer paths to walk.

I rewatched the premiere and it struck me that, at the end of the day, there are 4 females running things - Cersai, Sansa, Yara, and Dany.  All the men are in mostly supporting roles now - including Jon, and despite being the ultimate king.

Cersei's plan has to involve the Iron Islands in some way.  She's playing Euron like a fiddle.  My thoughts are that she wants to escape on his ships and then trick the whitewalkers into following her so that they can die in the sea since they cannot swim.

If this is the case, it seems reasonable that Yara and Theon will be involved somehow.  These two have grown into my two favorite characters on the show.

Lmao I know . I’m just seriously wondering what other “ending” no one possibly got right? And what motivation the WW have? At this point they are making the ending  sound so out of this world I’m not putting anything pass them. If Cersei is actually A  Targaryen who becomes the NK and saves westeros I wouldn’t be surprised 😂🤣

Doubtful. She’s not playing him at all. I think she’s desperate and that’s why she slept with him. Look at her face in that scene. He’s also blackmailing her according to Lena and Pilou, and she doesn’t care about the WW at all to plan a defense to kill them by luring them into a trap. She wants to stay in  KL and rule, she’s not going to go to the Iron Islands. She’s betting on the golden company and Eurons fleet to defend Against either Danys armies or the AOTD.

I don't think that GRRM is subverting fantasy tropes at all. He's playing them pretty straight, except that he's very good in creating "red herrings" that diverted from the really important characters. But at this stage of the series, most of the red herrings are gone and the fantasy tropes can be easily seen for what they are.

But if the show or GRR Martin really want to subvert fantasy tropes, than the person who definitely shouldn't get the throne is Jon. He's so obviously this show's version of King Arthur/Aragorn, that people take him for granted, much more so than they take Dany's role for granted.

I stand by my opinion that there's not enough time to establish a rivalry between Dany and Jon, when there are still Cersei and the Night King to stop. At least until episode three Jon and Dany will fight together and probably lose together and suffer great loses together. And then they should suddenly start fighting each other with only three episodes left?

If Friki is right then neither Jon nor Dany rule Westeros

.Has anyone heard the three new songs on the For the Throne album? The full album isn’t released yet, but the first three songs are available. And let me tell you , Power is Power is very interesting. It’s by the Weekend. Apparently these artists all collaborated to make an album inspired by Game of thrones and the first three songs are very interesting lyric wise. Especially Power is Power.

I just listened to Power is Power. Sounds kind of spoilery if it means anything...

Davos running the trial suggests that Jon is king, doesn’t it?

But then why isn't Jon there?

".....the man who passes the sentence should swing the sword. If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look into his eyes and hear his final words. And if you cannot bear to do that, then perhaps the man does not deserve to die."

But hey, Jon could be king still.

Look up the lyrics . I’m not sure if I can post them here or if it would just annoy everyone. 😂 but personally it’s about Jon , Dany ,and the  NK IMO. That’s what i took from it. My interpretation. @SimoneS Listening to it while reading it is better because it’s sung with girl and guy parts and you get a better feeling for what It means.

Okay, I found it. It pretty much says that Jon will defeat the NK and sit on the Iron Throne. I can't interpret the meaning of the line about the queen and the crown though.

Did they work with D&D on this album? Because that would give some idea of how the artists know about the show's ending.

If you listen to the song as well, there’s also a woman singing, it’s like a duet. So Daenerys is in there as well. She’s the part with the crowns not heavy for a queen, dying for love, etc. it’s very interesting. It takes on a whole new meaning when you hear it.

Fascinating.  I heard that as Cersei and dying for love was Jaime.

That’s what’s really cool. It’s all interpretation. The reason why I think it’s Jon and Dany because the whole first verse is about wolves, and snow and being stabbed in the heart. That’s obviously Jon. Then it’s about Fire, and who to trust, and dying in the arms of love, and it’s all references to fire and ice etc and battling . The whole song really has nothing that symbolizes Cersei or Jaime or Lannister’s. It’s all wolves, fire, ice, and crowns and resurrection.

I think the lyrics could suggest that Jon is the one that melts the Iron Throne. “Power is power/Now watch me burn it down”. It could easily mean just that they’re going to destroy the Night King and his army with fire or it could be interpreted as burning the symbol of power. The female singer (presumably Dany) sings “Put me away, I die lookin up at your face” which could mean Dany dies with Jon next to or holding her. The Dany singer also sings “Only love could kill me, God bless” which sounds like she dies for Jon.

Yup that was my thought. Ugh my heart.  It’s not very happy that’s for sure .

Breathe, feel the air that I breathe (Yeah)
Air that I, air that I breathe (Ooh)
Who's hotter? Been a monster with a crown (Ooh)
Soul-swapper, high water, keep your head up, you might drown (Ooh)
Hit as well, it's way colder, by the day, we count it down
Been around, just been waitin' up, she gon' come around
I took a drag, bust it out the gate, smile lil baby, slay
I wore a flag, put that on my face, ain't nobody safe
Lift the mask, they gon' have to see what they can't erase
I took a life, so I took it back (Do-do-do-do-do, yeah)
Danger's on my mind (Ah)
Ain't no knife, dagger, bullet that can do it
'Fore you even know, oh, yeah, she'll do it, yeah, yeah (Ah)

But then this verse after that is interesting. I bolded the parts that I found intriguing. I interpreted it as possible resurrection 🤷🏻‍♀️ I could be reading way to much into it though😂😂

If they did actually spoil the ending in songs, I’d be shocked .

That’s how I read it honestly. Fits the part where she sings::

Heavy is the crown, but never for a queen

That line comes right after the other verse I posted. Interesting placement .

I just listened to it. Frankly, it sounds like a song left off the Black Panther soundtrack, maybe because  of The Weeknd and SZA. As for interpreting the lyrics, it is difficult. Initially it seems like Dany dies for love, but then Travis Scott sings, "Ain't no knife, dagger, bullet that can do it, 'Fore you even know, oh, yeah, she'll do it," followed by SZA, "Heavy is the crown, but never for a queen" which suggests that she kills the NK and comes back to life somehow.

We are parsing a song to figure out the end of GoT. You realize that we are officially "fanatics." Bwah.

If this is the ending then for me it will depend on the details. I could see an ending like this that was done really well and one that really pisses me off.

I don’t really know who the Travis Scott lyrics are supposed to be about. Jon? The Night King? Interesting that he sings “smile lil baby”. A reference to Dany’s bun in the oven or the babies the Night King turned into White Walkers. It really depends on who is supposed to be singing. If it is about Jon why have two different singers?

The Weeknd is Jon, SZA is Daenerys, and Travis Scott is the Night King. I am pretty sure the "smile lil baby" refers to the babies the NK turned into White Walkers.

Do the writers of the lyrics know the ending of the show (and why would they, since HBO has been ultra secretive about it)? Otherwise it means nothing as they would be guessing at the end, just like we.

The lyrics seem to stress Jon's undead qualities:  "my fire never goes out I rise from my scars, nothing hurts me now".

But that's probably just the authors take on what was already known up to S7.

So because we’ve all crossed the line into crazy.

Been a monster with a crown.   Cersei, Cersei, Cersei

It’s way colder, by the day, we count it down.  NK closing in on KL.

There was also a line about poison and I flashed on Jaime poisoning Cersei as he had poisoned Olenna - in her WINE.

So I’m standing by my crazy because once my brain takes a left it can’t go back.  For instance, I am still convinced that the old friend Bran is waiting for is the NK.

I certainly would have demanded S8 spoilers in exchange for contributing a track, but I doubt any of these artists did.

Who knows if it means anything. I also wonder if HBO would even release the song if it spoiled the season 8 but it’s fun to speculate. I love interpreting the meaning of song lyrics and dissecting Game of Thrones. It’s a potential spoiler like most other things we have talked about in this thread the past year and a half. I’m honestly not sure what I’m going to do with myself when Game of Thrones has ended. I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time reading the GOT content on this forum, and reading this thread in particular.

All I know is that someone is getting resurrected or else why would Beric still be hanging around.   Maybe Dany dies, Jon gives her the Kiss, then Beric says "Wuv.  Twu wuv" and then resurrects Jon.  Idk, I'm still at work and bored.

?? Question ??

In EP 2 preview I see many people talking about the scene between Danny and Sansa and they all say Danny said : he should never have trusted Cersei. ( I assume Tyrion ); Sansa reply's - you shouldn't either.

Yet I keep playing it back and Danny says you( Sansa ) shouldn't have trusted Cersei.

Am I hearing it wrong ?

I wonder if Sansa sniffing out and denouncing Tyrion’s treason is the reason for all these cast and crew interviews talking up Sansa as the smartest and specialest.

I certainly hope Sansa is doing something special this season to justify all the hyping the cast and crew are doing for both Sansa and Sophie Turner.

Are the only recognizable Northern leaders with dialogue on the show currently Alys Karstark and Lyanna Mormont?  I thought they would introduce more Northern house leaders to kill off as red-shirts like Karsi at Hardhome. But looks like that's not happening.

Over on Tumblr, folks were discussing this picture with the staircase in the back and the blue glow:

Plus Emilia doing more filming in Iceland in this costume:

Could we be seeing Dany and the gang go to the lands of always winter to track down that altar of winter in episode 4? The heroes would have to strike back after Winterfell is taken down and Maisie did bring up this scene of the NK turning the baby in one of her interviews - so it looks to be important.

In the books, we know that Bran is going to be exploring all this as per GRRM.  But since he is chairbound in WF, he probably sends the gang to destroy it.

Doesn’t make sense. There is absolutely no reason for Daenerys to say to Sansa she should have never trusted Cersei. Dany doesn’t know Sansa at all, and Sansa never trusted Cersei. So it would take an extreme level of bad writing and ridiculousness for Dany to say that to her. Also, judging by the previews Dany looks pretty pissed at Tyrion so just by common sense alone I’m pretty sure she’s talking about him . I mean, you can believe Dany says YOU to Sansa, but not to be rude, that just seems like bias to me. And if the writers actually go that route, then they are really pushing hard to retcon Daenarys character, because logically and story wise it doesn’t make sense.

Put close caption on and listen, they are both saying you.

I'm sitting here thinking Sansa was 11 -13 when she pleaded with Joffery, Varys told Ned Cersei will send him to the wall, and Joffrey confirmed that.

Dammit. In my subtitles Dany says “ you” too. So maybe this discussion is not about this current situation, but Dany and Sansa talking about the past. Which means it could be a bonding moment.
