Lizzie: As Screwed Up As Carl Should Probably Be

It was almost sad to see how far gone Lizzie was. With no meds or therapists in this new world, it's no wonder she went crazy as a child. But, I suspect she was a little unbalanced before the world turned into zombies.

I don't attribute Karen and David's deaths to Lizzie because frankly, they were the right call [they were dying anyways, they were just going to turn, the outcome could be seen from space, etc.]  Cold unfeeling rationality is more Carol's thing these days.  Lizzie's batshit craziness had a completely different character IMO.

I think she preferred Walkers to the living, as long as they weren't able to actually get her, anyway.  Poor Mika.

Speaking of Lizzie and how crazy she was, in the first episode this 1/2 season where she appeared, when she was holding a crying Judith and walkers were in the area, did it remind anyone else of that episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye is traumatized by his memory of the Korean lady silencing the "chicken" that was making noise with the enemy in the vicinity?

Or am I the only person pushing 40 here?  Heh.

I agree. The information Mika shared about Lizzie not being quite right and that calming technique seemed straight out of family therapy. My guess is Lizzie was unstable pre-ZA.

AMC is airing a marathon today. I'm watching episode 4.2 and even then Mika was trying to tell folks that Lizzie had issues. After their father dies Carol is telling Lizzie she can't be weak, she has to act fast. Mika tells Carol, "She's not weak, she's messed up." In hindsight I think this was her 8 year old way of trying to tell people that er sister is crazy.

Yes, I linked to the M*A*S*H video in the Particles recap.

Just realized something else. In the same episode when Carol finds Lizzie outside by the fence crying she's says, "They killed Nick". Nick was the walker she named. Kid's dad just died and she's more upset over a walker who got his head bashed in. Yeah, Lizzie was a nutjob from day 1.

"Terminus is not that. It’s a completely alien environment with very strange people that live in a very specific and strange way that is in no way any kind of remnant of what we knew before. They’re actually a lot more dangerous and a little bit scarier when it all comes to light."

The above was quoted in the episode thread as how Terminus was described as comapred to Woodbury by the people behnd the show, and I was thinking maybe they see the walkers the wy Lizzie did, as a sort of higher evolution, or whatever. Lizzie would have fit right in, perhaps.

I'm not so sure. I think the folks at Terminus have a different sort of mental illness going on. Lizzie had a fit if someone killed a zombie, I don't think she's want to eat one.

The silicone chip inside her head has switched to overload ...

I'm going to let you in on a shameful secret - I was fucking sobbing during the "look at the flowers" scene.  All I kept thinking was that Carol must find some soothing lie to make Lizzie stop crying before executing her.  I realize it may be silly, but I cannot bear the thought of an animal (or a child, apparently) suffering, much less dying in distress.  (It opens up some fresh wounds, I guess).  :-(

Unfortunately Lizzie's last episode was still sitting on my Tivo when I saw TWoP's headline for the recap was, "Tell me about the rabbits, Carol."  Or maybe they did even say flowers instead of rabbits.  But the allusion to Mice and Men was clear and it spoiled the outcome.  OH WELL.  The risk we run when we don't watch eventful programs live.

I was a fan of Lizzie from the outset, and The Grove is by far my favorite episode of the series.  Shortly after it first aired, kikismom posted the following takeoff to Starry Starry Night. I saved it and thought it worth re-posting here.

Creepy creepy Lizzie
Your new friends skin is blue and grey
Ice cold on a summer's day
With eyes that see you haven't got a soul

A little girl who kills
Keep looking at the daffodils
When you looked at Judith I got the chills
Don't touch the baby with your bloodstained hands

Now Carol and Tyreese understand
Why we're yelling at our screen
You had signs of real insanity
And yet they let you be
They didn't stop you, they did not know how
A little too late now

Creepy creepy Lizzie
Mortuaries that brightly blaze
Swirling smoke from a moonshine haze
Reflects in Lizzie's crazy Manson eyes

Nailing mice to boards
Giving names to zombie hordes
Delusions can't be changed with words
There are splinters in the windmills of your mind

For they could not cure you
You're pathological it's true
And when the brain cells were all dead
In your squirrelly little head
You took your sister's life like only nutjobs do
But we could have warned them, Lizzie
Even the ZA wasn't meant for someone crazypants as you

Now Carol and Tyreese understand
Why we're yelling at our screens
You had signs of real insanity
But yet they let you be
The characters never learn
They haven't learned much still.
Perhaps they never will

Wow, thanks for posing this. The grove is one of my favorites also and I am in awe of kikismom and her poetry skilz :) I was alternately tearing up and stifling a chuckle. Now if she could maybe get out of my head once in a while... It's a little scary.:)
