In some cases, especially now that I am old, I can't ask someone's relatives. I may not know them, they may not be alive, whatever. I'm glad it is so easy for everyone else to "find" people's registries at Target, BBB, C/B. I'd personally love to have a big honking red arrow pointing "this way to the registry!" for me, I can have fun browsing the stuff, picking something out that suits my budget and that maybe they'll think of us when they use them, put in a credit card number and not have to worry (or forget).

This is true, and not just YOUR age, but couples are marrying later as well. They may have moved far away from their families, and established homes/careers/friends/work associates who have never met any of their family members.

However....in that case it's perfectly acceptable to ask the bride or groom "Are you registered? If so, where?" The point @Mrs. Hanson was making is it is a breach of etiquette to *volunteer* that you are registered or where because doing so means you expect gifts and/or that your guest's "price of admission" (as it were) to the celebration of your marriage is a gift. Even though most who attend weddings do provide a gift, it should never be implied a gift is expected because you were invited to the wedding ("We'd like for you to attend our wedding. Here's where we're registered [because we know you'll be buying a gift, so it might as well be something we'll really like]. Thanks, and hope to see you there!")

Yep - go on Pinterest and look up "Wishing Well" or "Wishing Well Wedding" and you will see truly cringeworthy poems asking for cash!!!

OMG ... I think you may have just given me a great rabbit hole to spend a few hours in!!! Thank you so much, and ditto thank you for the good wishes ... I'm just waiting to hear what they decide and look forward to a fun party (open bar! great food! dancing! no theme! nothing blan!) and moreso to my daughter having found incredible happiness and joy with an amazing guy.

I suspect it will be quirky and fun, like them.

ETA: Hubby is a musician and is just happy to go to a wedding where he DOESN'T have to play "At Last" again. Or play at all (pay, now that's another story!) Busman's holiday.

"Or if you can't make it, here's our address where you can send the check!" LMAO ...

And I've never even heard of a "money dance" and am almost afraid to google it ... have they done them on 4W and I've missed it? (I record batches of them and then let them work as visual Ambien, usually falling asleep somewhere between the tacky strut and the "MY wedding is going to BLOW THEM AWAY!" speech).

Perfectly put!!  Yes, go ahead and ask if you can't find a registry!!  Just don't volunteer the info.  Even people who put "In lieu of gifts we are asking for a donation" as that is just as bad - talking about gifts while patting yourself on the back at the same time.

If you are talking about the Dollar Dance - hold on a minute while I go turn my mom around in her grave while she spins in it.  It is....ugh.  DJ:  "Hey all you lovelies!!!  Get out your wallets, find your ones, fives, tens or larger and PAY TO DANCE WITH GROOM!  Hey fellas.....you are not being left out - get out your money as well!!!  Here comes the bride!!"    Then the Dollar Dance goes on FOREVER.

Cracked me up!!!  People wanted us to have that song played at our wedding as we were 52.  I was like, uh no.

We had no dance!!! LOL!  My hubby and I, believe it or not, have NEVER danced. He refuses, lol.  We had a pro musician play and we could have requested it from him.  But if we did by some force of nature had a dance it would have been......"Three Times a Lady" by Lionel Richie/Commodores.  LOVE THAT SONG.

(Hubby danced once at a wedding and some people razzed him, so......)

If Hubby did not want that song I had "Here There Everywhere in my holster, locked and ready to go!!!

When we got married, it was during Lionel Richie's heyday ... we went to one of those wedding band showcases out on Long Island and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM performed "All Night Long." By the end of that night, we put that on our "DO NOT PLAY!" list for our wedding LOL! Our first dance was to "Creepin'" by Stevie Wonder but we had two backups in case the band couldn't learn it (they did, and they KILLED on it!) ... we probably would have gone with "All This Love" by DeBarge.

ETA: Apologies to our patient mod ... I realize now in retrospect this convo should have probably been in Small Talk!

I love my Lionel  - saw him live last summer - and that is probably my LEAST favorite song, my absolute least favorite being "Endless Love" - that song causes cavities!!!

My least favorite for cringe-fest purposes was probably "Hello," but I always got a kick out of the famous video because the "blind artist" was my next-door neighbor in my college dorm my junior year and we also shared the same major, which was not heavily populated.

ETA and also getting back on topic (sorry!) ... I think I may have seen one of my very favorite weddings last night in "A Mouthful of Blue" ... I really liked this group of brides who seemed to all have fun without being bitchy (though I do think there was still, as always, some low-ball tactics going on with the scoring ... "I'm giving this wedding a 5 because I loved everything about it except that they had a band instead of a DJ") ... I really loved the Everything Blue wedding, the bride and the adorbs groom (they looked a little bit older) and all that blue was SO pretty! I think that was the same one with the crying groom who cracked me up as well.

I have about 15 more stacked up to go and am holding out hope for the BLAN bride ... does anyone happen to remember the name of that episode?

"And a Giraffe."  The fact that I knew that without looking it up is both sad and impressive at the same time.  The fact that my school year is almost out and I can watch reruns is pretty awesome, though!!!

I think the right bride won on that episode, she got married outdoors and her dinner was a huge barbeque buffet. The food looked fantastic and I loved her dress and her attitude.

I have it now! Aired last night/this morning! Can't wait!

BTW, watched the episode with the reception at Belmont Park and while at least one of the other brides was a total twerp about it, I thought the "reception gifts" of giving each guest a two-dollar betting slip was really awesome! (Going to the track for an evening is one of my favorite fun nights out!)

Mrs Hanson, you still have not been graced with BLAN Bride's presence?

Oh yes I have seen her but she is always worth a second viewing.  I saw a rerun today "And a Glass Slipper" which featured TWO unpleasant people:  Danielle (bitch personified) and Dawn (short, brunette and nasty.)  It was the one with a pig roast and lobster bisque and they got all offended that someone had placed sunglasses on the pig and there was a little lobster "staring at me!" in the bisque.  "Oh my GOD!!!  This is TORTURE!"  Really.  You are being fed many sumptuous foods and it is torture?

Kitty won - I was a little surprised she won as Cally (Kally?) the Greek bride seemed to knock it out of the park.  Dawn was short and she kept wearing VERY unflattering short (above the knee) satin shiny dresses that made her look even shorter.  And kinda....not slim.  She will watch re-runs and be like "Why did no one tell me???"

Danielle said, on camera, "If Kitty wins I will be speechless!"  Kitty won but she still had plenty to say:  "I could handle losing to Dawn or Cally but KITTY?"  Enjoy Italy, Kitty and Walter!!!  Bitchy Danielle came in fourth.  Loved it.

Just saw that one, too. She actually she would be OK losing to someone who DESERVED to win!! Incredibly rude. I am glad Kitty won. She called out the rude women for “acting up” and was very sweet in her responses to all the weddings.

I thought Kitty was sweet but her wedding was not the winner, at least from what was shown. I agree @Mrs. Hanson, that Kally should've probably won. Best part was Danielle coming in fourth, but unfortunately still not 'without speech' LOL.

Kitty's wedding, was, to me, a second place wedding.  420 people on a not so grand budget meant corners were cut someplace.  That is A LOT of people.  Her dress was not that "wow" either, it looked homemade (ducking tomatoes.)  Not homemade lie NYC bride with warm soda and cold pizza, but it was not just Kally calibur.

I notice some of the nastier girls end up in fourth. Wouldn't it behoove them to at least act nice to get a better score?

No, because you can't fix bitchy.

I just watched a new show on TLC that was similar to Four Weddings. The title was I want that wedding. An engaged couple is meeting with a wedding planner to determine what type of wedding they want. The wedding planner takes them to three different weddings and they have to determine which was the most expensive. I liked because we heard more from the groom and the engaged couple was gracious to the newlyweds.

My dvr did not record the end properly. How did the 3rd wedding go and how did the end turn out?  I watched most of the episode but missed the end.

The rerun today is the Zumba instructor leading a Zumba class at her reception.  Okay, this is so self centered, vain, self indulgent and WRONG.  Lady, I am a special ed teacher, I am not going to get up and lead an IEP meeting at my wedding.  No one wants to exercise, they want to sit, eat and drink.  You are fit, we get it.  My brother is a personal trainer and the thought of him getting up and leading everyone in exercise is laughable.

I agree it was a show-offey thing to do, it screamed "I work out, everyone! Look at me!" But, I imagine her thought process was that "zumba is a lot of fun, let's all enjoy it."

I've done Zumba, it's crazy fun. So if you didn't want to participate you could always slink away to the bar.

She probably did feel that way; I just think it's silly & hope they don't push people to be involved if they'd rather not.

But then I'm not a dancer in general & especially hate line dancing as well; two left feet LOL.

She was also a chiropractor - maybe she should have brought in her table and adjusted everyone!!  LOL!

Maybe at my wedding (heck, I have been married twice so let's make that weddings) the LAST thing on my mind is gonna be work.

Did anyone see the one that came after the Zumba Bride with the woman who was renewing her vows after 25 years?  I am curious about Holly, the sunflower loving bride who came in second.  She was 29 but was her groom a lot older or was he an early gray kinda guy?  I did not see the whole thing.

For the first time, I actually FF'd through an episode because I found one of the brides' voices so horrendously annoying I could not listen to it anymore ... and with my crappy memory I've already forgotten the name of the episode (and deleted it from my piled up 30-plus episodes ready to watch!) ...

I know she finished last (yay!) ... I think it was one of the Jersey weddings but am not positive (don't think it was the fist-pumping one though but maybe?) ... she had really long straight dark hair parted on the side and wore a flowered dress (not for her wedding but for at least one of the weddings and maybe the "everyone act all nervous waiting for the white limo" scene ... but she was not only bitchy and snotty, she had a voice that was worse than chalk on a blackboard.

Also, during the same mashup of watching way too many weddings, I finally saw THE BEST/WORST obvious down-grading-though-it's-not-allowed comment ever. No pretending it wasn't what she was doing. It was a mid-summer wedding and one of the other brides gave a wedding a 6 because ... "it was too hot out." Nothing else. Couldn't even come up with another (bad) reason. Just that. Well, yes, let's definitely blame that on the bride.

PS I just saw one episode of "I Want That Wedding" and actually loved it ... an LA-based couple who were actually likable and cute (plus, I liked one of the venues so much I found it online and sent the link to my gonna-be-married-in-LA-in-2019-but-won't-be-venue-shopping-until-next-month daughter.) I DO want to know, though, as the wife of a musician who plays a boatload of weddings, on what planet a solo acoustic guitarist who plays one song, even if it's a Hawaiian song, GETS PAID $750????? Even if he played all night, that's insane. My husband needs that gig when we relocate/retire.

Was it the outdoor venue? Is it Calamigos Ranch?

I think it was called the 1909 in Topanga Canyon? https://www.the1909.com/35e2lqx6uk0ci01azjyaqt6z31gnsa A LITTLE pricey (cough) but really nice ... I saw a sign which said 909 and googled from there. It was the first of the three venues ... I liked what they did with Madera as well, which is actually not far from where my DD lives.

ETA: Um, never mind on the 1909 ... I saw the estimated price for the 100-person wedding and thought, well, this will only be 50 people so it wouldn't be that bad, but just saw that DOESN'T INCLUDE FOOD OR ALCOHOL.

Next ...

I have known/still know a few people from New Jersey, they are perfectly nice people.  These "Joisey Brides!" do nothing for the Garden State.  The nasal fry, the fist pumping, the "That dress is total Jersey" (not sure what that means.....) but just bring it down a notch or twelve.  Glad you love your home state, I am a MN gal through and through - I would never say "That dress is total Minnesota!" as it would mean it either had snow tire chains on it, a road construction sign or a mosquito the size of a quarter on it.

Kara was on today - she who wanted SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!  She was even more unpleasant the second time around, especially with sweet Emily of the Christmas theme and Christine of the Chevron theme.  It was a bit of retribution as Shots Kara walked into the first church in her satin dress and let's just say the girl needed spanx.  Tummy bulging and you could see her belly button through the dress!!  Super unflattering, just like her personality.  Again, glad she came in fourth and sweet Emily came in second.  The other loud bride was first.

Kara was so wicked even her eyes looked evil!

What a garbage person, calling Emily boring and getting nasty over not being able to have shots at every moment. Then buddying up with the winning bride to be mean girls together. Wonder if she's still married, or if her husband likes that kind of person. Hmmmm.

Lots of reception sites will not allow shots because people get so hammered s o quickly.  The episode before?  With the....ahem....odd groom who wore a top hat when they won?  Odd duck for sure but a very sweet couple.

Kara and Emily are at polar ends. Kara is a crude hillbilly, even if she is a Jersey girl. Emily is a prig. Of the brides I dislike on a personal level I think Emily is the one I find most distasteful because I don't have the emotional payoff of watching her be universally mocked. At least BLAN bride and that cheating bitch Danielle from "and a Slipper" got their comeuppance, so I look forward to watching those episodes. Emily "snagged" the young Hipster Minister from a Hipster Church, making her The Pastor's Wife (which rightfully has a highly visible leadership role), but she seems to be one those Christians who keeps score and pulls rank and never ever lets you forget that she is The Pastor's Wife. That written, Emily's dress shimmered. It had gold details throughout the bodice and with her red hair/pale skin, I thought it was stunning -- one of those instances where that dress truly was perfect for that person.

I didn't get that sense reg. Emily & had no idea she married a pastor (guess I didn't pay attention in the intros). The thing that did bother me though, was when it came to her wedding she truly got competitive, in a bad way. She put "rowdy reception" in the invite which we all know was not there before (nothing about her, her people, or that reception was "rowdy"), & she changed the buffet to a plated dinner (the brides realized this change). She also took shots with them after being annoyed by it at the other weddings (for good reason; tacky crap IMO), & acted ridiculously juvenile about it ("let's do this before my family sees") - so she could've been a class act but when push came to shove she acted like an idiot.

Yes her gown was lovely & she was definitely the best dressed bride.

I couldn't stand the bride who won that one either; zig zag (or whatever it's called) bride stayed true to herself & was the nicest, but nice doesn't win this thing.

ETA: I LOVED the "no shots" sign at the zig zag (sorry having a brain fart on that pattern) bride's wedding - HA!  Freak out for those two crazies - they probably had to hit a bar to get their fix afterward.  Geez they were two horribly tacky brides!

Good ol "smilings not my favorite" bride Marie graced my TV this morning.  $160K for that wedding.  And the Indian bride that looked like she was marrying Borat got snippy with her.  I've never seen a 34 year old look like she's 65 at the same time.  Found ol Marie on Facebook.  Surprised she's got friends and family.  Her husband was actually good looking, IMO.

Count me in as someone equally annoyed by Kara AND Emily.  Emily just seems very cold, not a warm person at all.  And Kara had zero chance of looking pretty at her wedding.  She's just so weird looking.  I also thought it was telling at the very beginning as she and her dad pulled up to the church in the antique car her dad made a comment along the lines of "be on your best behavior, he comes from a good family".

Kara's episode, Zig Zag didn't win, did she? I thought the other Jersey girl won, the one with hot dogs at her reception? I thought she was just as low class as Kara, they seemed to really latch on to each other (did they already know each other?). Her makeup and demeanor were also a disaster, her eyes looked like she'd already been boozing and the eye shadow always looks like it sliding off.

Yes the other shots bride won  - she was from NY though; Kara was NJ.  Both were awful.

The discussion upthread about the brides not saying anything negative about the dress...I've heard plenty of negative said.  But it's always something stupid.  "Cindy's dress was my least favorite because it was lace and I don't like lace".  Well, no shit, it's not your dress.  Just yesterday morning one said, "I don't like the bow so I'm going to have to mark off points because of the bow".  Once again, NOT YOUR DRESS!

I think the brides need more guidance with rating the dresses, as in:  Was it fitted well?  Any wardrobe malfunctions?   lol

It's a personal thing & should probably be more hands off than the rest of the wedding; some have no common sense about their comments.  But I guess that would take the possibility of some real nastiness out of it (& they can't have that happen!).

I think I'm responsible for that! I guess I was just noticing that it seems to be a subject they dance around really stupidly ... like they have to score it and if they score it below, say, an 8 they need a reason why but they can't/won't say "she looks like a hot mess" or "it really emphasizes her potbelly/fat butt" so they find other faults like "it's really her style but there were too many ruffles on the train" ...

Whereas they can say the food was cold or over/undercooked to their liking or B L A N and it's somehow not as offensive.

Has anyone here been to a wedding where they asked guests (if plated dinner) if they wanted rare, medium, or well done? I'm thrilled just to get to choose meat, chicken, fish or veggie!
