The OJ Case Personalities In Real Life: Interviews, Videos, Other Facts

Seems to me we could flood other topics (particularly the media topic) with this stuff, but that should really be more about the actual show & episodes.

But there's so much video and print on these people now, perhaps a dedicated place to talk about it would be good, even now after the show is actually over (because hashing out the case now, since we just were reminded of how it ended, seems to be the order of the day).

The prosecution, the defense, the Kardashians (when they've talked about the actual case), the Jurors, the prominent press people who reported first hand on the case at the time and continued to be pundits on it for years, cops, witnesses, the families... they've all had so much to say.

Not sure if this belongs here but what sticks with me all these years later is the reactions of both Shapiro and Kardashian to the verdict.  And seeing a post in another thread, Jason Simpson's reaction isn't far off theirs either.  There is absolutely no relief, no joy . . . just absolute shock, amazement and (dare I say) discontent.  That says an awful lot to me -- you would think Simpson's best friend, (lead) attorney (at one time) and son would be overjoyed that he wasn't heading to prison.  And yet, they're not.

Okay, I have talked about this a ton in the last few episode threads. But here's the actual video (albeit this being a slightly tinkered with version someone did some minor edits on as some kind of joke). As I've said, I think we really got cheated by the show not seeing Marcia Clark's reaction when some press got her at her house after the OJ verdict came in so early.

Before people rail on "what a bitch" she comes off as, or other similar things--and fully admitting that I personally think she bungled this case incredibly (letting an actual Black Panther onto the jury, for example, unchallenged), I also think we need to think about what those days were like. While paparazzi had long existed, it was kind of a new thing that they'd be this relentless, and I think Clark was protective of her home life. So this guy gets in her face in a moment where she's pretty damn sure she's being called back to be told she lost the case.

WARNING: strictly because of VERY strong language, this is a work unsafe video:

The second person in that video is some Ohio politician named James Traficant, who has nothing to do with the OJ case. I guess this video maker just finds people cursing about trials fascinating and linked these together.

Some other stuff: This posts' theme: GUILT (not OJ's but other people's guilt)

First, here's Kris Jenner sounding sincere and human for one of the few times in her life, talking to Ellen about the murders:

Harvey Levin, another person like Kris Jenner it's hard to like normally, nevertheless has a fascinating story here... about how a domestic abuse charge for OJ just disappeared into thin air:

The common theme between these two clips is guilt. Kris feels guilty about not knowing about the abuse, and Levin feels guilty for getting tricked and not reporting on the abuse charge when it happened (thinking that may have changed things in the future).

I didn't think the Clark video was that bad? The way people were describing it, I was picturing a tirade. What she said...that's me on a good day. And I've had professors that have used more profanity while teaching a class than she did there.

I don't think it's bad. I think it's enlightening--which is why I wish that scene had been part of the show. It shows how hurt, how angry, how freaked out she was when that verdict came in early, and also strongly alludes to how frustrating it was to have her personal life invaded.

Oh, not saying you specifically, but others in other threads have described it as "cursing a blue streak" and other such things, so I was expecting her to really go for it. Maybe being the daughter of a sailor and growing up watching HBO makes me more immune to profanity, but "Why don't you get the fuck out of here, you fucking asshole?" and "Can I fucking hit him?" do not a blue streak make. I've casually said both of these things on countless occasions.

And I know some people were like "I wish they'd dramatized this to show the REAL Marcia" and I agree, but not because I think it would have put her in a bad light. If anything, it makes me like her more. But I'm a bitch and proud of it, so maybe that's an unpopular opinion.

But I agree, it's very enlightening in regards to how she was feeling in that moment. Much more interesting than the calm, almost hopeful route that the show decided to go with.

Has anyone watched Marcia's interview with Oprah?  You can find it on youtube.  It really turned me off her.  It's hard to pin down why.  Mr. CRS gave her the side-eye for her huge advance for her book, especially considering how much she railed against Kato for the possibility he might write a book.  I thought she seemed kinda giggly and focused on how the trial affected her with not much thought to Ron and Nicole.  Now, to be fair, I didn't read her book (I didn't read any of them because I didn't like anyone making money off this) and Oprah is by far one of the worst interviewers in history.  It's possible that she comes across well when someone asks her decent questions.

Saw a clip of Fred Goldman on I think "Dr." Phil. (Dr. Is in quotes because, well come on!). That Fred Goldman is a class act. Tobin was pontificating about some passage from his book and Fred is looking at him with this expression. His look seemed to say "ok, say your piece, justify making money off my sons murder, go on, whatever, loser". Just priceless! With the circus sideshow that this entire debacle turned into, Mr. Goldman has never lost his resolve. His son was murdered and he wants justice. Not fame or notoriety, that's just part of the deal as he seeks justice. Anyone raised by Mr. Goldman would have been a remarkable human being. The entire world lost out by Ron Goldman's death.

I don't think anyone publishing a book is making money out of Ron Goldman's death. Clark and Darden published books and so did many others. Are the producers of this show making money also? I think all who published books and gave interviews clearly pointed the finger at OJ and I'm sure the Goldmans agree OJ is a murderer.

Fred Goldman wrote a book and he trashed Ron's mother in it. Yes, they were estranged and she probably was a bad mom, but she is also the reason Ron lived and his attack on her was unnecessary. He let OJ's book get published once he got the rights to the profits. He sued the Brown family for millions. I don't know that he holds that much higher ground than everyone else involved in the case.

If I remember from other posts on this case, Denise was asked about their relationship with Goldmans and replied that Fred sued the Browns. Something about the Heisman trophy? Can someone help out please?

Ron had little contact with his mom for most of his life yet she tried to profit from his death. Sure, it might have been more noble to not trash the woman, but I can understand Fred's disgust towards her for that and for the pain her indifference towards the kids caused them during their lives.

Why not publish the killer's book? There was no justice for his son at the criminal trial so the only small measure of justice Fred can get for his son is to be a thorn in the killer's side. It had to have pissed OJ off to see Fred get the profits he hoped to pocket. Not to mention that the book made OJ look like even more guilty and showed what a vile man he is.

The Goldmans and Browns had a falling out over the publication of if I did it. When OJ announced the book, they both worked together to stop the publication. After they blocked OJ's publishers, the goldman's found another publisher and the Browns were angry because they wanted no one to publish the book. Here's a link with Denise Brown's side of the story, fwiw.

Me too.  "Fuck off you fucking asshole"  Meh.

Besides, the guy was an asshole and he should have fucked off.

Here is an interesting quote from Nancy Grace on the -Oprah: Where Are They Now?- "The People Vs OJ Simpson" episode.

"The new Simpson, I guess docuseries has been a huge hit....I really don't consider it entertainment. I don't think the story of two people getting practically beheaded in the front drive is entertainment. But hey, that's just me."

Yet she has a satirically entertaining news program where she discusses/debates Florida murder trials to ad nauseam.

I am confused by this quote. But hey, that's just me.

Thanks to the person that corrected me about the lyric to "Everybody Everybody" that was a fun fact.

I wish the insufferable Nancy Grace would get off my tv. But hey, that's just me.

Ron's biological mother filed suit against Simpson in late July 1994.  That was not even two months after Ron died.  It's disgraceful.  Wouldn't you still be processing his death at that point?  Would money even enter your mind?  I would think I would be more focused on getting Simpson convicted.  Who would care about money?

So yes, I understand Fred Goldman there.  She wasn't around for Ron when he was alive but she was looking to make a buck off his death.  It's gross.

I don't blame the Goldman family for publishing the book.   Let everyone who still believed Simpson was innocent read his actual words and see what a cruel, cold killer he is.

I do recall hearing that was the justification.

And I think the form the book was put out supports that agenda. Look at the cover on Amazon. Pay close attention to what it says. Oh, and also a former cover from an older edition (with an extra barb aimed at OJ at the bottom):

Yes, "If" is still there. IF you have a magnifying glass. That's on purpose. And "He did it" on the older edition.

As for the profits? I suppose the Goldmans justify it as replacing the money they were supposed to get from the Civil suit. Admittedly it sounds like this screwed over the Browns a little bit, but I don't see why the Goldmans and Browns need to be unified in everything they do for all existence. These are people who didn't know each other--not at all--before the murders. There's no other "part" of the relationship to protect.

Marcia Clark On The A&E Docuseries, "Marcia Clark Investigates The First 48"

Quote

Led by expert prosecutor and former defense attorney Marcia Clark, A&E’s new original docuseries “Marcia Clark Investigates The First 48” delves into some of America’s most shocking crimes that have remained unsolved or ended with controversial outcomes. The show pores through controversial cases including: the death of Casey Anthony’s daughter Caylee; the murder of actor Robert Blake’s wife Bonny Lee Bakley; the disappearance of Drew Peterson’s wife Stacy and more. By looking at these cases through the lens of the critical first 48 hours, Clark strives to discover the truth behind how and why these murders happened.
