ari333 March 28, 2016 Share March 28, 2016 I had to Google this, since I didn't didn't know. Unfortunately, I'm at work, and full access to Urban Dictionary is denied - but I did see this much: "The noise made after Billy Gunn's "Mr Ass" theme tune and now signifying the end of a joke that rhymes with 'Ass Man' made famous in meme form." Unfortunately, this doesn't help me at all, so...perhaps someone else can chime in! Bless your heart for trying. I still have no clue what it is :-) 1 Link to comment
Rick Kitchen March 28, 2016 Share March 28, 2016 Well, Billy Gunn was a professional wrestler who also used the name Mister Ass, but other than that, I have no idea. And where did you see the word? Link to comment
TheGreenKnight March 29, 2016 Share March 29, 2016 It had nothing to do with Simon leaving or allowing instruments. AI hasn't been purely a singing competition from almost the beginning. Heck, Simon pimped contestants based as much on looks as talent. Coincidentally, the people I remember him pimping could sing pretty well (Tamyra, Fantasia, McPhee, Melinda Doolittle, Archuleta, Lambert). Link to comment

27bored March 30, 2016 Share March 30, 2016 The popular music industry has always had its performers who were weak on vocals but strong on sex appeal. And if Dalton achieves a career, he'll be another one of them. *shrugs* Although I must say the point of Sia's lyric "I don't care if I sing off-key" was not that it's OK for a professional singer to sing off-key. And Dalton was definitely off-key. I think this is a bit of an oversimplification. There have been plenty of pop stars with more sex appeal than vocal ability, but I would say those days are mostly behind us (when even talented artists struggle to go Gold) and the ones that do it now are being propelled moreso by scandal, gossip, and social media fandom than mass sex appeal. Plus, I think that generally works better for female pop stars. Girls think Dalton is cute. That's cool, but I doubt the media for the most part care. Cute boys are a dime a dozen. Shoot, I bet they'd care about Mackenzie's geeky appeal than Dalton's guyliner and surfer hair. It had nothing to do with Simon leaving or allowing instruments. AI hasn't been purely a singing competition from almost the beginning. Heck, Simon pimped contestants based as much on looks as talent. That's true, but Simon was harsh with the criticism. Sometimes it made him a massive hypocrite -- I actually couldn't stand Simon most of the time -- but a sharp enough criticism from him could get people sent home back in the day. Now that the judges aren't as acerbic with their judgments, the contestants don't seem to try as hard to impress. sorry, what is bewp? I had to Google this, since I didn't didn't know. I still have no clue what it is :-) This was the bewp-filled post. I think this was the same person who asked if Avalon was "a stud" multiple times a few weeks ago, and didn't clarify when asked what exactly that was supposed to mean. I assume bewp is some new exclamation maybe like "doh" or "yikes"? I love you guys. I was the one who would ask if Avalon was a stud (meaning a mannish lesbian, in slang terms). I stopped because I didn't want to offend anyone, but I was getting the idea that she was given the tomboyishness and singing songs by boys (Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, etc). I wasn't asking like in a bad way, but just in a curious sort of way. Bewp is less touchy, though. It's onomatopoeic. It's like a dismissive sound you would make to something that's lame, stupid, wrong, or whatever. So like if you think La'Porsha should win, and someone thinks Dalton is a better singer, you would probably say bewp to that. Link to comment
Souldeep69 March 30, 2016 Share March 30, 2016 (edited) . I'm also still trying to figure out how God Only Knows qualifies as a rock classic. Did it come to be during the rock era? Sure. So did Feelings. Neither is rock. The Beach Boys, just using the measurement of singles chart performance, are the most popular American group of all time. They started with straight-out Chuck Berry-inspired rock and roll. Certainly they moved through and experimented with other styles, but they had a Top 5 hit in 1976 with their cover of Berry's "Rock and Roll Music", so they never abandoned their rock roots. Their lead guitarist, Carl Wilson, idolized Berry from the beginning and did his best to emulate his style. Carl became a pretty mean guitarist in his own right. His guitar solo on "Fun, Fun, Fun" is considered one of the all-time best. Still, he became better known for his beautiful singing voice — the clear as a bell lead on "Good Vibrations", shifting seamlessly between his full voice and his falsetto and back again (although some believe that the entire vocal is in his full voice), and his lead vocal on "God Only Knows" is beyond legendary, often making lists of the best lead vocals ever recorded. In any case, whatever they were doing at any particular time, Carl and the Beach Boys had genuine rock cred. Is "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner a rock song? Despite some electric guitar, it most certainly is not. Is it classic rock? It most certainly is. Edited March 30, 2016 by Souldeep69 2 Link to comment
proserpina65 March 30, 2016 Share March 30, 2016 Coincidentally, the people I remember him pimping could sing pretty well (Tamyra, Fantasia, McPhee, Melinda Doolittle, Archuleta, Lambert). There were some early ones where it was all about looks. Can't remember the names, Cristina somebody was one? Link to comment
rereader2 March 30, 2016 Share March 30, 2016 He also slammed a great many people--mostly women--for their looks. "You just don't look like a star" is a far cry from "You can't sing." 1 Link to comment

Jextella March 31, 2016 Share March 31, 2016 I have never been more bored by a final on American Idol than now. I just am not excited about any of them. I'll watch, but it's sad that this is how it all ends. Just my opinion. Totally agree, but I'll watch to the bitter end (and it is bitter). According to this site, the schedule is as follows: http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/american-idol-season-15-broadcast-schedule-announced-by-fox-19117.php The Grand Finale Week will switch things up again, as it will kick off Tuesday, April 5 from 8-9PM ET/PT with a retrospective episode in which host Ryan Seacrest, current and former judges and contestants, and the behind-the-scenes team will take a trip down memory lane and share their favorite memories. On Wednesday, April 6 from 8-9PM ET/PT, the remaining finalists will battle it out live from the Dolby Theatre for the shot to becoming the next "American Idol." A winner will then be named on Thursday, April 7 during an 8-10PM ET/PT broadcast on Fox. The finale episode, which will serve as a tribute to everyone who has been involved with or watched Idol all these years, will likely be an emotional ending to an incredible 15-season franchise.
