this is super interesting! She wasn't the worst. I can't remember which one it is but one of the girls looks off camera and says something to someone in the midst of hers (probably  "can i do it again?" answer: NO.) THAT is embarrassing. I have soft spot for Kelsey too. The squad needs some really gorgeous, mature-looking "glamour girls" in the mold of Lauren W, Jackie Bob, Ashton, etc. and I think she would be one of those. To come back and reaudition after two tries and being somewhat humiliated on national TV - that takes guts. 

I dont know what it is about the audition combo choreography but a lot of these girls are super well trained dancers, many who danced for other pro teams, and everyone w/ exception of small handful looks a little choppy and awkward during some parts. I think the best ones like Cersten keep their bodies flowing and keep their poms moving smoothly from one move to the next, you cant really see the pauses between moves like you can with others. Know what I mean?

This is odd. The North Texas Dancers have three posts on instagram supporting their alumni as finalists.

There's NO mention of Joi, who is also a DCC finalist and was a NTD last year.

That's clearly her in the middle row.

What does "chasing the choreography" mean?  It sounds as if the dancer doesn't know it and watches what another one does before she does it.

Eh, respectfully disagree.  The only thing that is going to take Hunter out of the game is herself; she strikes me as someone who gets into her own head and psychs herself out.  I think she is probably practicing her butt off this week, getting pointers from Michelle and Kitty, and will rock it this weekend. Unless she pulls out a Vivian classic routine, we know her solo will be amazing.  

And if nothing else, I bet she wins fan vote.

If she can't do the choreo (which she obviously can't in the fan vote video) she won't make the team. Come on, a double pirouette? Minis and juniors can do that. Hunter being an experienced dancer should be able to do that in her sleep but she can't. She's not technically trained enough this latest and greatest technical wave of DCC

Yeah, she said she is honored by any fan votes she gets because she knows viewers probably consider her the dumb girl. I told her she has my support unless she writes K&J a poem...she promised not to LOL 

That's probably why they have that kind of choreography...to see if there is anyone who can make it flow and look natural. I think it is probably a lot harder than it looks. Yeah, they are trained dancers but swinging and spinning and having to stop without falling over all while smiling. I'd be a hot mess.

We shall see :) I've seen her do double pirouettes in routines before without a hitch so I am willing to chalk it up to nerves. But I am not a DCC judge so you may very well end up being right.

Although I think Hunter's dance style and body is more suited for NBA, I think she'll make DCC. 

Her experience with Mavs, her relationship with Kitty, and the fact that she's a CA Alum should work in her favor. 

I think she just needs to soften up for Pom style though. As Rycroft said... while popping, less booty and more ribcage isolation haha

I'll just add my two cents into the Hunter can/can't dance argument.

I think that probably all these girls can dance, with most being able to dance very well.  My thought though is that they may not be able to dance in the DCC manner, which is really all that matters.  It isn't a lyrical style or hip hop or ballet.  The dances they learn seem to be pretty basic, with lots of moves recycled for years, but the movements are big, showy and peppy.

So really, a girl can do the most gorgeous double pirouette ever and still not be a decent fit for the DCC.

I know it's been said already, but I'll say it again. Every year these videos get published and most of the girls don't look great. Then the show rolls around and it turns out that a lot of them are actually fabulous dancers. Personally I'm not willing to write any of these girls off for one forty second clip, other than the ones I've seen dance before and know already that they don't have it. So I guess the point is that just because Hunter messed up the double pirouette in her video doesn't mean she's not capable of doing a double pirouette. We even saw rockstar Hannah falling out of turns the year she was cut. Shit happens.

I'm pretty sure Hunter actually trips herself up right before she executes her turns in her video. As good dancers are trained, she keeps going. The rest of her Choreo is on point. I think she has what it takes to get into training camp. She does need to develop the DCC style. Big and Bold but not overdone. 

She is a bit on the short side. She will need amazing kicks and an HD face for this weekend. She reminds me so much of Loren, dance wise.

I guess the timeline for this is what it has to be, but it would be nice if the women could film on another day, so they could be well-rehearsed and confident. I'm not sure watching a bunch of women stumble through mediocre choreography does much for the DCC reputation as the best of the best. I would be more impressed if all of the dancers were fantastic.

I wonder how many girls will be on the team this year?  I hope 36 or more. I still do not understand why only 34 girls last year.  Then with Paige being released and Caila being under aged in bars with pics posted on social media...hmmm. I would think If that was during the regular season that would have meant a 33 or 32 girl team. 

I know Kelli remininses of her grandmother. Well, like my Grandma used to say to me when life handed me a few knocks, "Kiddo! It's time to get your house in order! 

Here we are the week before finals, with so many new and talented girls dreaming of making the team about to meet those returning vets. I wish them all the best of luck. I can't wait to see the new season later this year.

Some of the best dancers I know will mess up a simple turn every now and then - girls who can do quads and more can occaisionally fall out of a double because their balance was off at the moment.   Falling out of a turn when doing a single segment of audition choroegraphy is way less of a concern than someone who has horrible placement when they dance.  The turn could be a mistake, but bad placement or style issues usually are for real and are very hard to fix. 

I thought Hunter's dancing looked good and didn't care much about the messed up turn.  The bigger issue w/ her was her lack of facial expression and looking down at the ground almost the entire time that she danced - I'm hoping that was just a fluke.

Yeah I think the facials were just down to nerves. Normally when she dances with the Mavs her facial expressions are fine! Probably just psyching herself out.

So, I've just been thinking about Kelsey and the reply she gave to LaurenBrook.. She seems like a lovely girl .. and yet she's never made it to training camp?

My point being she must be doing something right for me to be interested in her. I only 'seriously' started following DCC this last year, though I watched the two previous series' (also just last year).

And yes she is stunning, but I'm sure there were a lot of other stunning girls but I don't remember or follow them. 

I vaguely follow a few girls who made it to training camp but didn't make the team (Madeline and Courtney Johnson). But other than that no one has made an impression on me.

I think it is a pity if she doesn't get a chance because if she learns all her Cowboys history she'd make a great ambassador as she draws in people like me, from the UK, who have no prior knowledge of Football (*ahem* American Football).

It's sad she didn't wow with her vote dance, but I was only really loved two of them I saw, the rest were non memorable for me. And at least she didn't do a shocker aka Shelbi (*shakes head* - SO bad). And as she uploads dances to Instagram - which not all DCC's even do, I know she can dance. I'm really rooting for her.

I hope they have 36 this year. That seems like the 'sweet spot' to me.  Enough that they are OK with injuries and what not but not to the point where they are taking girls that could have been left off. (though I will say I rewatched some of season 8 recently and darn it if Kaitlin LeRae and Morgan didn't win me over a bit this time...still think K&J had the right instincts about them but I could see more this time why they gave them a shot).

I almost think it speaks well of her, because they took girls with dumber answers (like Carla) just so they could cut for drama later. They must not have had any dirt on Kelsey to make a dramatic cut later on LOL  But I suppose I'm prejudice for Kelsey because she has been so friendly and down to earth. I don't expect that everyone would root for her just like there are girls other people here like that I'm thinking, really??? Love the diverse opinions!!!

Honestly my only concern with Madeline at this point is how some of it will clash with her Mormon faith.  I mean, don't they even have to wear specific types of underwear? How would that trashy swimsuit show fit in? Hard to have grace and poise during that LOL  Oh well...don't want to get ahead of myself!

In regards to Kelsey, who everyone seems to like, I just didn't feel it.  Her performance was soft and no spark at all.  I don't believe that K&J are keeping her out of TC solely because of her bad interviews.  I think that no matter how well she dances in video clips she posts and how beautiful she is, she just isn't DCC in style.  And that tired thing doesn't cut it with me - all of them had the same day.  If you want this bad enough, you pull it out for a 45 second clip.

So there are a total of 72 girls going into finals (48 new girls, 24 vets). How many do you think they will take into training camp?

If none of the 24 vets get cut, I'd say they probably bring in a little less than 50 and cut it to maybe 36-40. They did 46 last year, 20 vets and 26 rookies and there were 10 more girls in finals last year.

they usually take around 46 or so right? IF all the vets make it back to TC, that means only 10-12 of the finalists will actually make the team which seems really tough!

There are 23 vets trying out again. I think there is a slim chance a rookie vet will be cut. On the subject of how many girls will be picked for team. The team has dealt with injuries before and after the season starts, and the girls survived. Yes, I will never really understand why Kaitlyn made the team, but the team was fine with Kaitlyn on the sideline with her injury, weight gain, or the real reason why she stopped performing/making appearances in late October/early November.

For once I actually really like all the rookies and I can't imagine any of them being cut. (I mean i could see how a few would but really hoping not). I think some of the lower profile girls or weaker performers - simone, claire- are actually really fun. I know there are mixed feelings on this board about Kat but I just gotta give her a shout out. I love her. I think she is mature, fun, a great DCC ambassador and is clearly working hard on building her dance skills. So interested to see what her solo looks like. #teamkat

I believe Caila and Simone will be cut.  I also wouldn't be surprised to see at least 2-3 other rookies cut (several of them look like girls who just blend, and I think they'll be cut just like Courtni was a few seasons ago).
