did anyone stay up for the special! coverage! last night, it was sooo goood.

Honestly my favorite part was the Velshi & Ruhle reunion. I can't believe that used to be a live thing everyday, it's so goooood.

Such a beautiful balance between the two of them combining craziness and hilarity and with this kinda peaceful harmonious vibe.

anyhoo! ---> now watching MJ aaaaaaand.... mirabile visuuuuuu.... Joe & Mika & Wille are all in the same freakin studio!!!! for the first time in a gazillion years. I did see a commercial yesterday about "Morning Joe Special coverage" but I was skeptical because of the thing where they promised a 15th anniversary special for a whole year and then it never even happened and it was super disappointing, but this SOTU special actually happened and so far is a really good show!!

---> Mika, Joe and Willie in DC Rivendell.

Joe looks cute, by which I mean, he'll never reach Barniclean heights of Sartorial Splendor, but he's fully clothed below the waist and this is points

I think Mika is mad at Joe bc she's super tense and keeps crossing her arms in his direction whenever he's speaking --- > whatever it is, probably he deserves it  #teammika.

buuuut also please apologize asap Joe bc I'm such a snowflake about tense energy agggh

Eugene Robison's giggle is adorable and needs to be a ringtone

Elisabeth Bumiller is here! I love her! I just looked her up and she's Danish, which makes sense temperamentally. I wish she'd introduce christiania cargo bikes to DC, this would solve a lot of the traffic issues.

I feel like I must be in some sort of bubble bc I'd totally forgotten who Sarah Huckabee Sanders even was.

now realizing she was somewhere in between Sean Spicer hiding in the bushes and Scaramucci not lasting very long and definitely not doing the fandango

crazy how all these ghosts of administrations! past! keep randomly popping up. I feel that way every morning when you wake up and no matter what the news of the day is, within 5 mins of 6 a.m. there's an intense close-up of former!guy! and his pores, just because. I understand why it's necessary to keep talking about him, but visually it's like having your ex's face creepily pop up in your bedroom window every morning.

I always wonder how many more years, for how many more people, his is the first human face we have to look at every morning. and how healthy that actually is for the rest of our day 🥴 there must be ways to discuss him intellectually without letting him loom dementor-style on a visual and emotional level agggh

good god *small voice* for some reason Mika is really really bad at pronouncing Polish names 😂 she just said, "welcome Mr An-jay-chuck!" and the chyron read "Andrzejczak"

ETA: at the end of the segment she asked him and he politely lied. good god 🥴 but other than that it actually was a great interview

Joe repeated that Trump is a loser.

Joe said Trump should not have won the election in 2016.

He blamed Comey & NY Times leaks.

The lady from the NY Times didn't respond to Joe.

Joe got mad at Sarah Huckabee Sanders for giving a depressing speech. It was the American speech.

Joe should look in the mirror before he blames Comey and the NYT. Did they take Trump's phone calls live everyday during their morning cable show?

Nancy Pelosi is here! the chyron reads "speaker emerita" is that the correct title, it sounds weird. man I missed her so much sitting there during the SOTU she has this super calming presence. this year I kept having to turn off the volume with all the jeering and anger and shitty energy ugh

Hilariously Lemire started out remote and then suddenly he was at the table. Did he jump on the amtrak during the show? lmao

OH MY GOD this guy Miller. Waffle, waffle, waffle, waffle

Mika was right to go for the jugular, Joe should've backed her up rather than step in to undermine her

thank god for Katty's question at the end

ETA: just gonna leave this here ->

Stoltenberg got it right. tbh this is a fair request, no country deserves to be named after a giant bird

Had the tv on mute.  A former general was on talking about his book, and he seemed slightly feral, very goofy, NOT ready for prime time telly.
Barnicle was trying to put words in the General's mouth to denigrate Trump's insurrection, and then the General made a long winded joke for Barnicle's benefit and then mute happened.  I've got no time for nonsense!

Joe and his panel can never focus on the important things. Instead they have to commiserate on the nonsense of what stupid nicknames one candidate calls his opponents and what stupid nicknames the opponent should retaliate with.

Mika said she was triggered because Trump is using the name of her cat Meatball to insult Ron De Santis.

Joe likes to use personal insults against against politicians he disagrees with.

Joe said DeSantis should call Trump a loser because the GOP lost elections every year from 2017-2022. He repeats this on every show. It must be in his contract.

He lost in 2017, he lost in 2018, he lost in 2019, he lost in 2020 . . . Joe simply cannot say he lost every year since 2017.  Drive me NUTS!  But then again, it's a short trip.

It's a very annoying habit . He gets a few catch phrases & repeats them every show. He also keeps talking about the suburbs of swing states voting patterns.

He repeats the usual patter endlessly because there are four (four!) hours to fill every blasted day. He doesn’t seem to care - he says what he wants, repeats endlessly, vanishes for hours, sometimes days. And gets paid mountains of money for that extra hour. It still annoys me.

oh here's the right one

#wherearethewomen

but at least the guest list this morning was  17 men and 4 women, so that's kinda sorta an improvement 🥴

I will never understand all the Abu Dhabi segments couched into *this* context. In general I'm positive about the knowing your value thingy in the sense that I know I'm not the target demographic but I think the advice is very specific and actually very good for older ladies who need it in the media/corporate world, which in fairness in that world women are not treated well. and I think Mika kinda sorta knows how to navigate it and can help in that respect? within her field i mean

----> but man oh man if so much time is gonna be spent promoting this stuff *on* MJ, the lessons from it have to be applied *to* MJ without the whole thing coming across as completely paradoxical 🥴 all symbolic action is interpreted in context, context, context, that's teh bratty lil art girl advice for this week gaaaah

Probably I'm the only one, but genuinely hoping the unidentified! flying! objects! *are* actual aliens. Imagine how much we could learn. Their scientific advances, their off-planet art, music, literature, honestly this planet is f-ing dull, bring on teh ETs

The thing about KYV is that it should not have a targeted “age” audience. But with 50 over 50, they pat themselves on the back for Making It. Kris Jenner (married money twice). Mika and her family connections.  Maybe they are exceptions and most of the women have succeeded on their own. I never watch the segments so I am probably wrong about all of this.

Well, I think it was last Friday when Mika had a roundtable with six female governors.

wait, what, when? I think I watched Friday's show I didn't see it?

ETA: ....ah ok, I checked my DVR and they basically randomly aired this during the 8.30 rerun time?

Without announcing they were gonna have an original segment for once so probably tons of people missed it bc we all skip that half hour, honestly their promoting of things is so baaaad, just why.

Also I take offence to this cornering of female politicians into a "Ladies Afternooon Tea" segment during the time no one watches instead of incoporating their human selves into actual serious discussions in an organic way.

But other than that it was actually a great segment that they could have actually told their viewers they were gonna do instead of the usual rerun 🥴

I get what you're saying but IMO, the "older ladies in the media/corporate world" most likely got where they are today at age 50+ by putting in decades of hard work. Actual work vs using a famous last name or marrying their boss to get to the top of their field. Mika is the last one they need to hear a lecture from regarding tips and tricks for climbing toward the glass ceiling. Mika's place in the breakfast nook, either looking adoringly at her husband or scowling at guests/her audience, is not the pinnacle of success she thinks it is. YMMV.

i'm still catching up on yesterday's show, and you know who would've been a really really great guest on this segment about *checks chyron* rates of mortality in childbirth for black women?

an actual! black! woman!

image.png.328f93ee55bf535cd788ed4dc78f622e.png

or, you know, just an actual woman. either one of those --->

image.png.ed128c2d0c5f805b87ab4d06d1d3d8f3.png

it cracks me up that at no point did these three dudes look at each other and think, hey maybe someone who has birthed or might in the future an actual child should be at this table? maybe maybe? and Mika didn't say anything at all during the whole segment, it was just the men talking, I can't even 🥴

ETA: coming back to this, because I've been thinking about it.

it's honestly a genuinely interesting example because the whole point of this study was that in healthcare black women aren't given the required standard of care, for social, economic and other reasons, but also I think, because they aren't *listened to*.

And the reasons they aren't listened to is probably the same reasons these people did an entire segment like this without *talking to* or *including* a single black woman in their discussion, paradoxically proving the whole point that article was trying to make.

I wonder so much how this happens and how they don't notice before putting a segment like this on the air? like what their process is and where their eyes are

i also just realized that Kurt Anderson, who I thought they had on because he was a researcher on the study they cited, had nothing to do with the study at all? am I right in this or did I get mixed up?

and bizarely at some point said "there's something different about pre-natal and neo-natal care in this country, but I don't know what because I know nothing about it" ----> so the main panelist brought in for this discussion had nothing to do with the article being discussed, is....not a doctor...not black... aaaaand not a woman.

make it make sense, honestly 🥴

btw this is no shade on Vorsicht! Kurt! who I actually adore, just their profoundly insane and inappropriate guest booking choices

ok so i feel like I've been cranky lately, and I'm not a great believer in darkness and negativity especially in winter

so I'm gonna say something nice for once ----> Joe on his own in studio in DC Rivendell is actually *chef's kiss* when he's being kind and respectful and listening and interacting with guests.

when he decides to be, he's actually very very good at this tee-vee thing. I also kinda like it when he's being ridiculous and clever and funny as hell

also Willie looks so cute. blues and grays balance so well with his hair and makes it look more natural. also he's a master of teh pocket! square! which I imagine he gives to crying women on park benches during his lunch break bc he's a perfect and adorable human

I wonder where Mika was? Also Joe disappeared at 7.30 a.m. and didn't reappear at all in the next 2.5 hours. #theplotthickens re: all these random unexplained weekly absences, hmmm

Alexi M and Elisabeth were here!! Also Fiona Hill!!

actually cheered when our Khaleesi Katty took over at the head of the table! in DC Rivendell, Galadriel-style

Did anyone happen to catch Morning Joe Weekend on Saturday? I was clicking thru all the channels about 6am central time and low and behold there was Lemire (of course) and later Willie. Is this a real thing? It looked to be similar to the weekday MJ; so similar, in fact, that I couldn't waste my time watching. Perhaps it was a re-run? Didn't see the duo...

I have never heard of Morning Joe Weekend; maybe because it was a holiday weekend? Perhaps four hours a day, five days a week is simply not enough Joe and Meeka.

Tuesday recap. Joe is in Washington with Eugne, Jen,& David. Mika was absent.

Everyone agreed with Biden visiting Kyiv. First time since the Civil War.

Joe called Biden courageous to take the 10 hour train trip.

Joe called some Republicans buffoons for saying Russia doesn't pose a threat.

DeSantis said that russia has a third rate military.

Jen Psaki said it was top secret plan the trip.

I haven't heard of any weekend! MJ! either but apparently they are doing an evening! special! on thursday at 8 p.m.

hmm. well hopefully it's in the same vein as the other MSNBC specials eg with Rachel, Joy & Nicolle etc? Those are honestly the best.

At least it will be great to see Joe & Mika & Willie all together at the table again, it's so damn rare in the mornings that they are in the same place, so in that sense a special is a good thing

Joe was very impressed with Biden's speech in Kyiv yesterday. First time that a President spoke in a war zone since Abraham Lincoln.

Joe is mad at the GOP for not supporting Biden.

Joe was excited that Mika's brother was at teh table with Biden. He is Ambassador to Poland.

Joe said Poland is the center of gravity of the war in Ukraine.

Mika spoke about her dad.

Just wait til Jimmy Carter's passing.

I was kind of expecting to hear she'd showed up in Poland this week to "support her brother" during Biden's visit. Maybe the Thursday night MJ Special will include a feature on the Brz family's connection to the world's timely topics.

i wonder what's happening with all the location! shenanigans?

they finally made it out of Florida, but only to paradoxically fragment the show by randomly sending Joe and Mika to..... different locations?

Joe to DC for many days, Mika to NYC for many days?

For no actual reason? What on earth could be the actual strategy of them apart when actually on the East Coast, I don't get it?

I mean maybe there's some backstage drama, which to be fair, is their personal business, but man I hope it won't affect the rapport on the show 🥴

but this weirdness has lasted the past two weeks and it's totally inexplicable?

at least there's the thursday special to look forward to with all three of them

ETA: That Julia Ainsley story today really shocked me. I'm so glad she's staying on this, it's terrifying

Hm... That's not how I picture it.  The way I picture it, she's in a tres chic Lily Pulitzer-ish boutique in the Boca Raton Resort & Club swanning about with a pal.  Mika is carefully, expertly, eyeing thumbholes in mixed use yoga / political TV gear.  Her pal sees the TV and says "hey isn't that your brother?"  Mika looks up, shrugs.  "Ehh. I dunno."  Then tosses a very bright long scarf over her shoulder, poses in the mirror, nods.

I'm watching Nicole just now and they put an ad in the corner for tomorrow's Special which is basically just Joe's Used Car Salesman Face looking weird and stern lmao

image.thumb.png.1f314cb46d51a9cbef5b7af9868c88d9.png

I mean probably Mika and Willie worked just as hard on this and deserve to be included in the ad, it's almost insane to me that their photos aren't included?

Wtf even is this new cult of Joe thingy I can't keep a straight face about it.

I mean I adore him but mainly as part of the 15-yr-old brand developed thru *team work* which actually does include the other two humans

I think MSNBC has run out of "talent"...(industry word, not mine, for sure). I still think they should recruit Shep Smith to liven things up.

Regarding the promo: Yeah, it is quite odd that it focuses on Joe. We usually see that same photo of the 3 of them. Perhaps they're teasing a permanent time slot change for the show? That will only feature Joe? I must disagree about "Mika working just as hard..." though; See Lowcountry snark's comment. Did her Peacock show ever materialize? Do you guys watch it?
