How Excited Should We Really Get About This Report Of A Deadwood Movie?

Recommended Posts

If I may simply quote myself from August 13, 2015:

If this is just another cock-tease by the Hoopleheads at HBO, I swear I will hunt them down with all the intensity of Jane tracking her next bottle of booze, pull their fucking heads off their pox-ridden bodies, and piss down their throats.  And then sprinkle their corpses with some unauthorized cinnamon.

So, I will not get excited about this news.  It's just another HBO trolling.

Tara, you're right to point out that this is not a done deal. Just want to correct one of your points about what could go wrong. Milch is well-known for not really writing scripts. If that sounds mad, it is. But that is how he works. He has things in his head to some unknown extent, and then writes dialog at the very last minute, as in, at most, the night before shooting. And then, during shooting, he often changes lines. This is part of why he had to leave network TV (NYPD Blue); most crews, actors and TV production schedules are not equipped to work that way. At HBO he was able to surround himself with people who understood what they were getting into and joined willingly. IF something throws this off the track, it will not be him spending too much time on the script.

In all the years since Deadwood finished i don't think i have ever heard anything from Milch trying to get the show to come back or movies made. Even at the very beginning hbo suggested movies and i don't remember hearing anything. Makes me wonder if he would even be interested.

I'm not going to hold my breath, for sure. And if it's not true, I will hunt some people down - you know who they are. But golly, geewhiz, wouldn't it be wonderful (assuming the finished piece reflected the awesomeness of the series.

In the meantime, while we wait, a message for George Hearst. You're a dick, George.  You're welcome

I remain convinced we are more likely to see a Deadwood Babies Saturday morning cartoon than for HBO to wrangle Milch and the cast back together for any sort of reboot,

Maybe more like "Dr. Whowood". Raylan & Boyd time travel back to South Dakota, while Seth wakes up in 2016 L.A.  where he finds Al - who already did a time jump- in prison for murdering a guy on Ray Donovan.

Today I was on a tram in Melbourne (Australia) going about my day, when I realised Franklin Ajaye was sitting next to me! (He played N***er-General, for those who don't remember.) As I have been doing a rewatch, I had to say hello to him and tell him how much I loved him in Deadwood. We had a very short conversation as he was getting off at the next stop, but he did say 'They're making a movie, you know. The script isn't finished yet.' I also discovered that he lives in Melbourne now.

Look, I know it's not definitive proof that we're getting a movie, but I got very excited!

Rewatching

S1E1  "Loopy Cunt" is born

"Loopy fuckin' cunt" is my favorite term of endearment, to this day.  ;-)

I wish HBO would re-ait this series, so I could rewatch it again.

So break out the canned peaches and give me a shot of whiskey!! Looks like Deadwood may back from the dead. But I will remain at least slightly sceptical until they actually start filming. Advances, none miraculous.

Eh.  I'm whelmed.

Season 1 was, in toto, one of the most perfect *Westerns ever made. But for me, each season rolled further downhill from there.  So why restart?  Did Sex and the City 2 teach these people nothing???

*yes it was a Western.  Don't @ me. Bill-fucking-Hickok = Western.

Short And To The Point: This massive media conglomerate owns a pay cable channel. They are going to regret hiring this once B+ list mostly movie actor for his first role in years. He has been partnering with a photographer in LA to shoot child porn. So, maybe cast someone else other than the person with the history of doing exactly what he is doing now. Jeffrey Jones ("Deadwood" movie)

Canned peaches and cinnamon for all! Should we start a new thread for the movie WHICH SEEMS TO BE REALLY TRULY ACTUALLY HAPPENING AT LONG LAST?

Not until it's "actually a movie" and not "allegedly a movie."

Is David Milch involved?  Because, I need him to be, but do not trust him to be ...

Yes he is. He is slated to be the show runner for the film. As the original creator, I’m sure that he will guarantee us a good ending.

Oh dearie me.  That man is one fuckball of creative genius, and is incapable of finishing a brilliant thought.  Just ask me, and the REAL denizens of the El Camino Motel (my next pet will be named "Butchie" and the one after that will be "See God. Kai").

Says the only person who fucking LOVED John From Cincinnati.

Skippy!  Kiss, kiss.

Yes. Even though HBO has made the official announcement, I don't trust those hoopleheads yet.

In other news, W. Earl Brown (Dan Dority) posted this on his Instagram today. There's another one featuring Richardson, but I can't get it to load.

They have instituted a swear jar on the set of Deadwood and at day 2 it was already up to $700

I imagine that as showrunner, Milch collects the pot; and as writer, he pays back the actors, dollar for dollar.
