S01.E07: Buen Arbol

The woman driver killing herself wasn't a real surprise, although I thought maybe she would be found after cutting her wrists with s scalpel or something and would be saved at the last minute.  Or Angus would have to talk her down from the roof ledge.

It's always good to see Christopher Cousins (the cheating husband), but I thought he looked like C. Thomas Howell during some scenes.

I would like to see Gabrielle Carteris eventually be given a larger role on the show than simply 'nurse in ER' with a couple of lines.

*twirls* My ship had breakfast! My ship had breakfast! My ship had breakfast! *twirls*

Ahem.

I can't say how much I enjoy a show where I like every regular character, and it's the case here. I don't sigh or roll my eyes at any of them. They're all pretty decent people so far, even Mario for the chip I see on his shoulder. And Angus is really growing on me, he's so much more than the cliché George O'Malley I feared he'd be. Even though I have my favorite (that may include bloody mary for breakfast) I enjoy every interaction. The Hudson/Mario one was lots of fun in this episode. At least Hudson had fun. Mario needs tough love, and Hudson is a good mentor for him imo.

Oh, Neal also used his loud voice...aaaand he's badass. Did I say I love him? Not yet for this episode.

The eye squick! Gosh, the eye squick. Good job, show!

I wasn't too fond of the mother and son case, though, it was bordering Good is Dumb for me. There's being decent, and there's suffering fools/assholes. Parents asking people if they have kids in order to validate or not their POV is one of my pet peeves, mainly for the very reason why I kind of hoped that Leanne would go all Gregory House on the mother: some people had children, and have them no more.

I'd like to see more cowboy mode Leanne. But in spite of the heavy-handed end, I kind of love how Christa is her number one fan. Again, positive relationship between female characters is something I appreciate to see.

If the show's ratings are enough for it to last (go up more, damnit, go up more!*) I think it will be the case. She was less of a "blink and you'll miss her" character in this episode, because this is the first one where I spotted her -I rewatched the others and didn't notice her yet again.

*Would it kill the network and producers to freaking promote this show? I don't think it even has a facebook page, the mainstream media or spoiler sites barely mention it. And a new episode is listed for next week, yet I can't find a promo anywhere. Usually, there is a preview for the next episode available after each broadcast.

It would annoy me so much if the show ended up canned because of a deficit of publicity.

I seriously wanted to belt that mother when she asked that. I hate how people think they can invalidate someone's opinion or feelings based on whether they've had children. And if someone has lost their child either they tell a complete stranger something personal or said stranger makes an awful assumption.

I think I had blocked that from my memory.  I have eye problems, so I have doctors and techs working around my eyes a lot (so I'm not squeamish about having someone--a professional, that is--near my eyes), but I still don't want to watch any scenes like that. It reminded me of a scene way back in the early days of 'ER' where I think they used a paper clip in some way to push someone's eye back in.  Eeeek!

The way they film this show is ridiculous. The procedures really do look realistic, except the CPR of course because doing real CPR can crush the actor's ribs. That eye scene was crazy.

Woo hoo they had breakfast! I would have loved a little longer scene.

That CF mom was annoying. Validating her kid's life, and then annoying everyone and animist causing Krista to puncture the kid's lungs. He will get the medical treatment he needs since his CF diagnosis will give him full insurance to pay for all the bills (CCS).

I don't usually get squeamish, but it took me a couple of minutes to get used to that eye.

I love the actor playing Angus (I actually like all of them and their characters).  He really makes me feel his insecurities and seems like a genuinely nice guy.  I was wondering, though, how did the patient get to the roof?  How did she get past the policeman who was waiting to question her?

The woman driver killing herself wasn't a real surprise, although I thought maybe she would be found after cutting her wrists with s scalpel or something and would be saved at the last minute.  Or Angus would have to talk her down from the roof ledge.

And if either of those things had happened, it would have been considered cliche, so even though I felt bad for Angus, I was glad to see something a bit different.

I watched the episode, but I think I missed something. Did it ever get explained what happened to the driver and why she couldn't remember.

Couldn't watch anything with the eye. I got a thing about eyes, to the point I can't even watch people put contacts in.

I was kind of meh on the show in the beginning. The chaos that happens drives me nuts. I don't like having my attention being scattered and missing things, but in general the show seems pretty good.

And uh.. I'm assuming the wide eyed intern is a lesbian from a previous episode I watched and the woman she was dealing with today is.. a lover?

Way back when ER was on, there was a reviewer who was so squicked out by eye problems that she would write "toe" instead of "eye."  If she is watching Code Black, I hope she had some warning about this episode.

I'm very glad old lady Dorothy lived. What a tragedy it would have been if the last book you read in your life was "Atlas Shrugged" and you died before you got a chance to tell your friend how shitty her choice of books was...

I think the doctor said (rather quickly) that her amnesia could be the result of a seizure, but she died before they could confirm anything.

It was either that or she was too traumatized. Unfortunately every week a specialist is not available to do their job- no wonder the ER doctors get such good training. Even that eye procedure is supposed to be done by an ophthalmologist.

Loved this ep. I have nothing smart to add, other than Mario being so squimish at the *gasp* penis was actually unprofessional and at that point of his career, I don't think it was believable. OTOH, he redeemed himself at the end. And I loved that he was having a moment while working on the woman with no legs. That's exactly why I like this show so much. They are all normal, as average as can be on a TVshow young doctors.

Also: ops, I ran into you at the breakfast bar! That was a very nice ending. I very rarely root for the show's OTP - not out of principle but because it just is - but those two are cute. Because I can totally believe they would like each other in real life.

Another thing: Marcia Gay Harden makes a wonderful doctor. She's one of the few I would go to.

Unfortunately every week a specialist is not available to do their job-

This hospital seems to have no staff except the ER personnel. No wonder they are in Code Black all the time. Nowhere to send patients to get them OUT of the ER.

I've become attached to this show. I quit Grey's this year. Finally. It felt like losing a friend. A really crappy, overly dramatic, smug friend. This show was my medical TV filler to help me quit, but I've ended up actually enjoy it. A lot.

This week the eye almost did me in though. I can type the word but I didn't watch one moment of that storyline. I covered my own eyes & listened to the dialogue. Messed up eyes & messing with eyes squick me out. I'd rather see blood gushing or someone puking. Eww.

I'm shipping the happy ship too. I hope it sails smoothly, but slowly. Breakfast was a good start.

Ha!  Me too. Actually, I quit Grey's as soon as I saw in the previews that Derek was getting killed off - never even watched that show.  After all the promises the M&D were end game, it pissed me off and I really don't watch these shows for the soap opera romance stories.  I'm loving this show so far.  I can deal with all kinds of cheesy/not real medical procedures because it is TV and I want to be entertained, and this one is doing well.

I also found myself really closely focusing on the captions during the eyeball scenes.  I can't watch those at all. ::shudders::
