Well, the Browns are officially eliminated (so are the Jets, so yay!), but I can 'console' myself with this:

Cleveland has the

1) reigning NFL Coach of the Year

2) Newly minted MLB AL Manager of the Year

3) Leading candidate for NBA Coach of the Year

Maybe someday these awards will end up with a championship.

To be fair, 3-1 = Championship!

Thanks to the Chiefs, I now hate football.

I just hate them.

They have not won by more than 13 points this season.  10 of their wins were by a TD or less.  And this with Patrick Mahomes at QB with all his weapons.  They play Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Houston and Denver the next four games.  They could lose two or three of those games.

And I know we have talked about this before but I just can't with the tomahawk chop the fans do at their games.

. I'll even gladly take Romo over him.

Not me.  I do think Brady has loosened up a bit.  No one's as bad as Romo.

As a Guardians fan and a wife to someone w/Arapahoe & Cherokee bloodline, this ticks me off.  How is that not racist, when the term "Indians" is a GENEALOGICAL TERM classifying a people's?  OK, Native American is better, but "Indians" is certainly less racist than Braves or Chiefs.

Because the Braves and the Chiefs were able to convince local indigenous tribes to endorse their team names by giving them free advertising $$$ for their casinos and other business ventures.  Since there are no reservations or local tribes near Cleveland, or Washington DC; those teams were unable to cut a deal and had to change their names.

Interesting that the two teams that promote the most offensive gesture in sports, the Tomahawk Chop, are allowed to continue to do so.

The fact that the original name 'Indians' was meant as a tribute to native American Cleveland player Louis Sockalexis, is irrelevant too, it seems.  Back in the day, fans used to exhort the rest of the team to 'play like the Indian' who was their best player and this lead to the name being changed to The Indians.

The former Redskins changed the team's name amidst the 2020 national protests about racism and their former owner having a number of cascading personal controversies which, in addition to being a terrible owner, ultimately led to his selling the team. While I appreciate that an actual slur is no longer the team's name, it was one of a series of distractions that Daniel Snyder put forth in that time period like the hastily arranged tribute to Sean Taylor meant to draw attention away from his awfulness.

Tony Romo > Joe Theismann

Probably is rather simple to say so as I've grown on Romo.  Like Gus Johnson, he's toned it down.  Still can do without, but there's a difference for me.  With TB12, I'm used to his material on MNF (Westwood One) so I actually don't hate it.

Speaking of Brady vs Romo, I'll give credit to the former as he actually contributes to the league outside of calling games.  Romo gets paid a ton of money for 3 hours of work.  Can't really blame him but I'm more of a fan of people like Simms, Collinsworth, Olsen, Gruden (when he was calling games) and several other people.

For what it's worth, someone created a mute button for one's remote control, so there's that

Regarding Daniel Jones, the local gossip here in Minneapolis is that he came to the Vikings for "quarterback camp." Seeing the success Sam Darnold's had this year after being washed up for a while, people think Jones wants some mentoring and coaching to set him up for success. We'll see.

It seems like all of a sudden I'm watching games where someone touches the football too soon after a kick and the other team recovers the ball.

Sometimes it just takes a different coach and a different system and a QB gets better. Justin Fields came to Pittsburgh and had a 4-2 record before Russell Wilson took over.

You lost me at Collinsworth.  LOL.

Credit to the Cowboys, they keep finding inventive ways to lose.

And Micah Parsons looked mighty frustrated with that.

I sure did haha.  I know a ton of people in our area hate him.  I used to be included there.  While the disdain was super pure, I guess I've become "nicer" in a way.  Plus, a ton more people with legitimate egos entering the Sports Media world probably makes Cris look "favorable" IMO.

Speaking of Sports Media, it shouldn't last too long for Coach Bill.  Didn't really talk about his UNC future here as that's really a College Football subject

I'll get to some nobody quitting the game later (or not).  Football is a brutal sport, and at the end of the day, even in defeat there's a chance at something good.  That depends on where you go.  On that note, this here sucks.

For those who may or may not know, Pro Football Hall of Fame member & ESPN analyst Randy Moss took a leave of absence from the studio show on the network mentioned within this sentence.  Figured it could've taken a couple weeks, or the rest of the season.  He's added a ton on the field, and in his NFL analysis.  While I don't focus on studio shows as much anymore, that's a voice that'll be missed.  Whatever is next for him, I wish all the best in a situation far more important than the sport.

Moss' cancer is a particularly awful one that is fatal in most cases. It does sound like his was caught early since he was able to have surgery, most aren't found before it has spread.  However, even with disease confined to the liver, the mortality rate is around 75%.  Prayers for him and his family.

Until recently, it looked as if a football game in Carolina would be a nightmare for the team that plays there, but I'm not so sure anymore

It still is a nightmare. Both teams suck & both teams have very scummy owners who i don't ever want to see anywhere near a Super Bowl.

Speaking of absolute scum, I know that the Jaguars flat out suck. But, it would be very nice today if they bring some more misery to that scummy green team & their scummy useless big mouth quarterback.

We're pretty much in agreement.  Man, that "error" at AT&T was a nice gift 31 years in the making.

Carolina doesn't suck as much as they have recently, but they still do in fact, suck.  That's more of a reason why they lost to Kansas City than the latter getting the legacy treatment.

But enough about those crap-ass teams.  Less about bad teams (except for one exception) and more about historic winning teams.  For instance, the Steelers.  They'll be playoff bound if they win one of their final four games.  Of course they could lose out, but they'd still get in ASAP if Houston clinches the AFC South title today.

I'm not a Ravens fan, and overall I admire the New York Football Giants.  That being said, I think it makes sense to see Baltimore winning before the end of the first quarter.  So I have to see the 2023 AFC North Champions leaving Met Life after scoring anywhere from 62-77 points.  That way normalcy can return to the sport.

That above is with apologies to the fans & community of Big Blue.  However, I think I'm definitely still upset over some of the decisions made over the past half dozens years.  I'm not optimistic that's going to change in the off-season, but we'll see.

Philly gets the title if both Pittsburgh and Washington lose.  The Western PA team hasn't won on the East of its state in about six decades, and I don't see that changing today.  However, the last time the Steelers played in Philadelphia, the Eagles had the previous week off while the former was playing a night game against a team that had a homecoming of sorts.  To add insult to injury, their offense was horrible, and they were without the face of the team.  So it should be a closer game, but a blowout also will not be a surprise

ESPN tells me the Giants lost a QB for the third time in four games.  I used to be bummed we no longer get most Giants games in my market (but of course I understood it; sucky teams don't get a national audience), but now I'm just glad to be spared.

(But, good grief, my morning game options suck -- Cowboys-Panthers on FOX [of course I'm rooting for the Panthers, but they're terrible and I have zero interest in them outside of beating the Cowboys] and Chiefs [of course; heaven forbid a week ever go by without a Chiefs game]-Browns.  Thank the universe for Bloody Marys.)

(edited)

The Giants just need three more TD’s and one 2 pt. conversion in the next six game minutes and we’re set!

So I just found out today that Tim Boyle is a Giant, and if that doesn’t mean Schoen should be relieved of his duties, I don’t know what does.

If anyone out there says they knew Josh Johnson was still in the league I don’t believe you.
