OK, Native American is better, but "Indians" is certainly less racist than Braves or Chiefs. Because the Braves and the Chiefs were able to convince local indigenous tribes to endorse their team names by giving them free advertising $$$ for their casinos and other business ventures. Since there are no reservations or local tribes near Cleveland, or Washington DC; those teams were unable to cut a deal and had to change their names. Interesting that the two teams that promote the most offensive gesture in sports, the Tomahawk Chop, are allowed to continue to do so. The fact that the original name 'Indians' was meant as a tribute to native American Cleveland player Louis Sockalexis, is irrelevant too, it seems. Back in the day, fans used to exhort the rest of the team to 'play like the Indian' who was their best player and this lead to the name being changed to The Indians. 1 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/574/#findComment-8528649

The former Redskins changed the team's name amidst the 2020 national protests about racism and their former owner having a number of cascading personal controversies which, in addition to being a terrible owner, ultimately led to his selling the team. While I appreciate that an actual slur is no longer the team's name, it was one of a series of distractions that Daniel Snyder put forth in that time period like the hastily arranged tribute to Sean Taylor meant to draw attention away from his awfulness. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/574/#findComment-8528747

Tony Romo > Joe Theismann Probably is rather simple to say so as I've grown on Romo. Like Gus Johnson, he's toned it down. Still can do without, but there's a difference for me. With TB12, I'm used to his material on MNF (Westwood One) so I actually don't hate it. Speaking of Brady vs Romo, I'll give credit to the former as he actually contributes to the league outside of calling games. Romo gets paid a ton of money for 3 hours of work. Can't really blame him but I'm more of a fan of people like Simms, Collinsworth, Olsen, Gruden (when he was calling games) and several other people. Carey December 14 Share December 14 I'll get to some nobody quitting the game later (or not). Football is a brutal sport, and at the end of the day, even in defeat there's a chance at something good. That depends on where you go. On that note, this here sucks. For those who may or may not know, Pro Football Hall of Fame member & ESPN analyst Randy Moss took a leave of absence from the studio show on the network mentioned within this sentence. Figured it could've taken a couple weeks, or the rest of the season. He's added a ton on the field, and in his NFL analysis. Carey December 15 Share December 15 We're pretty much in agreement. Man, that "error" at AT&T was a nice gift 31 years in the making. Carolina doesn't suck as much as they have recently, but they still do in fact, suck. That's more of a reason why they lost to Kansas City than the latter getting the legacy treatment. But enough about those crap-ass teams. Less about bad teams (except for one exception) and more about historic winning teams. For instance, the Steelers. They'll be playoff bound if they win one of their final four games. Of course they could lose out, but they'd still get in ASAP if Houston clinches the AFC South title today. I'm not a Ravens fan, and overall I admire the New York Football Giants. That being said, I think it makes sense to see Baltimore winning before the end of the first quarter. So I have to see the 2023 AFC North Champions leaving Met Life after scoring anywhere from 62-77 points. That way normalcy can return to the sport. That above is with apologies to the fans & community of Big Blue. However, I think I'm definitely still upset over some of the decisions made over the past half dozens years. I'm not optimistic that's going to change in the off-season, but we'll see. Philly gets the title if both Pittsburgh and Washington lose. The Western PA team hasn't won on the East of its state in about six decades, and I don't see that changing today. However, the last time the Steelers played in Philadelphia, the Eagles had the previous week off while the former was playing a night game against a team that had a homecoming of sorts. To add insult to injury, their offense was horrible, and they were without the face of the team. So it should be a closer game, but a blowout also will not be a surprise Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/574/#findComment-8533283
