Temps can be over 120 degrees in this part of Columbia. Wow. I didn't know snakes could be 500 pounds, Did I hear that correctly? Why do women wear matching undies and bras? Bc they're on tv? Also, we are told that these folks did not choose their teams. Interesting. Wow, sexist much, Jeff? He said, upon seeing Hakim "HEY! Im so glad to have a man as a partner! More work, less drama," Well, we'll see. And his balls are, "the crown jewels?" Really, Jeff? Someone finally brought a mosquito net. I was wondering about that; but maybe it was bc there are 2 other people on the team, so there are 2 more items allowed - which all three would have access to (presumably.) Danielle's bug bites with fever would have been a tap out for me. That giant rock area where EJ, Hakim, and Jeff were must have been brutally hot. I don't blame him for tapping out. Maybe I missed some eppys here and there, but Hakim was dressed when he left. When a dude is taken out he is covered or dressed. When a woman is taken out she carried off or escorted out .... naked.... from the ones I've seen. Just an observation. I could be wrong. Also, how did the other two on Hakim's team go 4 days with a little water from the cactus? Since the deep cut was on Eva's finger and it needed stiches, there's no way I'd have stayed there. And are we to believe the medic had NO pain meds or anesthesia of any kind not even an injection? Also, there's a risk of decreased mobility in a finger... I wouldn't risk that. I don't remember Shane's original episode, but from what I saw last night his bark is worse than his bite. He talks all crazy, but then goes out of his way to get some fruit for his ailing teammate. I was curious why Hakim's two teammates didn't do more to help him to get some water? They seemed to just sit with him and talk about it. Interesting that of the four teams, theirs seemed to be the strongest and they were the first to lose a member. Poor Hakim, felt sorry for him. Forgot her name, was it Honora? The one who tapped out previously. Definitely there for the drama factor. Maybe her teammates will leave her in the jungle.... 5 Link to comment
Squirrely July 13, 2015 Share July 13, 2015 I've really been looking forward to this premiere. I had wondered how it all would work, so the 3 person teams were quite interesting. Hope poor Dani finds the other women soon! I'd be terrified to lay down alone like that, though the mosquito net was a genius addition. Looks like the insects in Colombia are going to rank right up there with the worst of the worst. Not gonna lie, as a woman i was feeling smirky that the first one out was a big "manly alpha male!" Why you would exert that much effort into a fancy shelter without even having a water source is beyond me. I'm also wondering how the other 2 haven't succumbed to dehydration. They need to find water, stat. Anyone know how many episodes this season is supposed to be? I tried looking online last night but couldn't find any answers. Wikipedia doesn't even have season 5 added at all, or a page for XL. I hope it's a decent length. Can't wait to see how it all progresses and how long it takes for all 12 to come together, and where it'll go from there. I'm a huge fan of Survivor, but the idea of no host, no organized challenges, and no food rewards what so ever is very appealing. My guess is 8-9 people will finish the challenge. My 9 year-old thinks 6 will. Anyone else want to wager a guess? 1 Link to comment
suzeecat July 13, 2015 Share July 13, 2015 I'll throw my guess in at 5-6 finishers. One already gone in the first few days with a couple others on the brink. As another woman, I think it would be cool to see the all woman team finish intact. Watching the three alpha males I did have a thought that they might want to out-alpha-male each other and overcompensate or take an unnecessary and possibly foolish risk just to show off. (hmm, smirk) On the other (female) side, I wonder if that mindset had anything to do with Eva slicing her finger open. The four camps seem fairly close, I thought it would be funny if Dani stumbles upon the wrong team and the crew has to intervene and say - "Wait! Wrong team! Go THAT way!" 3 Link to comment

She must have known FOR SURE what that plant was to put it on or near her eye. Again, for me.... eye swollen shut? Check please. Give me my matching panties and bra and hoist me onto the chopper. Straycat80 July 13, 2015 Share July 13, 2015 I didn't catch everyone 's names either but I felt bad for Hakim. The other two guys he was with didn't seem to want to do much to help him. They talked about water but when the one guy went to find some he saw he couldn't get through the black thorn trees, stated that fact, and just sat down again without trying to find an alternative route to get to water. I didn't see the medics put a bandage on the girl with the stitches. Even if they did how is a bandage going to stay clean and dry in those living conditions? It's not. I'd go home if I were her. And what did Dani see or hear while she was in the mosquito net? She was freaking out and then they never showed what she heard. Those bites looked vicious! Because the woman barely flinched (at least what was shown) If that's all on the up and up; she wins absolutely everything and is the baddest bad ass mutha fucka on the planet !!! How is it possible that EJ and whasshisname are not suffering as dire affects from dehydration as much as Hakeem? I didn't understand that one. She built a better temporary shelter than most of the other groups that decided to stay in one place. Dobian July 15, 2015 Share July 15, 2015 I was sorry to see the ninja go. That wasn't very smart of those guys, though, spending hours doing heavy labor in high heat with no water. Water is your first priority. I was impressed with swollen eye chick. I don't see how Danielle is going to pull out of it, having a fever and not being able to cool off is a bad combination. Even stitched up, that hand is going to be very debilitating for Eva. Looking forward to this series. The original show has to have so much heavy editing to fit 21 days into an hour. They'll be able to show a lot more on XL. They seem to do this in every episode. Drives me crazy because it's always manufactured drama! She probably heard a bug. Yeah, when you're sleeping in a jungle, it's guaranteed that every night you are going to hear critters bounding around and making some noise. It's a given. 1 Link to comment

How long will they continue to build before they get the water? Thai food has a lot of green mangos - why do the 2F1M team have to wait 3 days to eat them? They all did the same activity so why didn't all have same effect? And what happened to the cactus the one guy put in bag? And why did they not eat the mangoes immediately? Yeah they'd be tart but you could still eat! My money is on the girl alone going all the way. As to the matching bra and panties isn't that an everyday thing, if you wear them? Link to comment

As I've gotten older it doesn't matter that much, but I still like to. I wonder if the guide/driver has to keep up with their clothes & turn them in so the contestants get them back or if the clothes are junked. If so I'd wear my rattiest everything. I probably would anyway since it's not like I'd be walking around in my cute little matching undies. Ok I wouldn't even make it to the truck before I tapped out. KidHorn July 24, 2015 Share July 24, 2015 Hakim tapped out because of abdominal cramps. A lot of things can cause that. It may not have had anything to do with dehydration. Plus, being the only black person, perhaps black people are effected differently when dehydrated. I agree that not making water a highest priority was stupid. They probably thought the could whip up a castle in no time. I expect the all girls group, which started out with a we're a great team attitude, won't last. Men can let things go that women can't. Fever girl (Danni?) and pal seemed bitchy towards Shane despite him trying to help them with the mangos which can be eaten when green (may not taste good but it's food). Sure he says stuff that maybe better left unsaid but he is at least trying to help. His words remind me of a teenager but his actions seem like a nice adult (getting food for someone in need). I wonder if the showed edited out the alpha's searching for more water--they must have looked more than just the once that we were shown. Honora didn't finish her first time around so the opening voice over is lying when it talks about them all having increased their PSRs and surviving the 1st time around. So far I like them all except Honora. I'm sure that will change as time goes on since Shane and the 2 with him seem annoying (it's a shame since I really like Danni who has previously done Columbia--I was hoping her male partner was also on this season since he was great).
