The story of the rapist was discussed before. I won't go into it again too much, but what was she going to say? He watches fucked up porn? In the "sex pozzie" Bay Area, she would have been laughed out of there. And ask Nicole Brown Simpson how much money protects you if you run. Look up Hedda Nusbaum, and what Joel the Child Killer did just to her face.  Again, I don't go in for blaming women for men's behavior.

Poor Hedda. That was a HORRIBLE case.

I'm looking for a episode of Forensic Files, I just realized that every episode is on Netflix. The episode in question was about a man who's Mom was killed in the middle of the night. He was a child and he grew up to become a police officer. Well, he wanted to solve his Mom's murder...and he did. He found out that his sister had something to do with it. I've been looking for this episode forever.

They were Black if it helps.

Also, has anyone ever noticed any difference when  Unsolved Mysteries and Forensic Files cover the same case? I'm watching the episode on Patricia Stallings episode on FF. I've seen the case on UM, but they left out a lot of things. A whole other child, she had a child before marrying David Stallings. She got lost and went to the wrong hospital... So many details left out.

I had to look this up.  Glad I did.  Take my "Like" tenfold, 'Kay?

Could this be Rod Demery, who had the ID show Murder Chose Me?  I don't see any FF that looks like it cover his case, but there are so many duplicates.

I don't see any sister.
I saw a show recently where the mother was killed by the daughter and her boyfriend, but I think they were white.  It was on in the last week or so somewhere.
There was a brother, and at the end the sister is out of prison, because she was a juvenile at the time, and she calls him but he'll have nothing to do with her.

I know Joel Steinberg  was released from prison some time ago, but I haven’t heard anything since.

ETA: Wikipedia claims he moved to Harlem and found work in the construction industry.

Thanks for the info.  IMO, he should never have gotten out.  He killed a little girl and disfigured/brutalized Hedda.  No mercy deserved.

I saw that too.  I didn't understand why they charged the daughter, who was the mastermind, as a juvenile.  Odd.  You really can see why justice is really screwed up.  Some defendants get hit with the full arm of the law and others get a wrist slap....often for similar crimes.   Yeah, I know that deals are made, often based on the strength of the state's case, but, even taking that into consideration, the differing treatments, punishments, runs wildly different.

Despite being majorly creeped out by the promo, I did watch Home Alone. Poor Katie got in over her head and just couldn't get out. I really liked what her mom was saying about not worrying if you have to be a pain in your kid's side.

I did read that her parents sued the sheriff's dept for not doing more to arrest Jason for stalking and child porn. I don't know if that would've made a difference in the end. They settled out of court and started a scholarship in her name.

I'd planned to take a brief shut-eye before the show had started, but I slept a little too long and wound up missing the first twenty minutes or so of it.

But I did see the rest of the show. I cannot even begin to imagine the horror and sheer helplessness Katie's poor parents felt upon hearing those gunshots. Just...damn. Even sadder considering she'd done what she could to announce she was in trouble when she first heard the noises in the house that night. What a horribly tragic story.

  • Love 7

I watched for the first time "Home Alone".  It was the one about Katie and the jilted boyfriend Jordan.  I have no words.  I really don't know if I can watch this show again.  Sigh, hard to call it a "show".

Just one thing I found odd -- not accusatory at all!.  Stepdad put a gun in kitchen so he could get at it faster.  Why didn't he tell Katie about the gun?  Teach her to use it?  She may not want to use it (why I don't have a gun as an older single woman), but she could have hid in the closet with the gun.

What a horrible story.  Or the other Are the other episodes like it?

OMG I am watching Deadline Crime for the first time, hosted by Tamron Hall.  WTF is she wearing??  Hot pink mini dress?  She looks like she should be on MTV!  This is a serious topic, murder.

And, what has she done to her face?  And her voice is very creepy, sounds more like Paula Zahn.  This is the wrong direction, I think.

Who else liked Unusual Suspects: Deadly Intent, about the real estate couple.
It was so strange, with almost everyone saying what a bitch she was, and we saw examples, and her mother pops up in these talking heads say how she'd always be ready to help anyone.
The saddest part was the young son being paralyzed by the shot.  For that, and for killing the father, the son should have paid, but the wife/mother was one of those "she needed killin'.

I like Kenda, but, man, when they do an ALL DAY back to back Kenda, then run it all evening.....it's too much Kenda, imo.

Here's a bio on the actor who plays the young Joe Kenda.  I like him, but, haven't seen him in many other roles.

Go to the library and borrow this book:

and you will figure out why you haven't seen him in many other roles.  He's a fabulator and a bit of a sleaze.  Good looking, though, yes - kind of comic the way he doesn't really look like a young Kenda.

I've set The Eleven to record. http://www.aetv.com/shows/the-eleven

It seems to be about a letter by an inmate, confessing that he was a serial killer.
I say "seems," because my program guide makes it sound like 11 girls were murdered following the confession of a serial killer.

That is what we thought it was about also.  Hmm.

Shitty serial killer show?  I'm in!  ;-)

The last Killer Instinct with Chris Hansen annoyed me a bit. A girl goes to college in Louisiana, leaves because of money, but stays in town to find work so she can eventually go back to school. She ends up murdered by the guy who employed her, and at the end, Hansen asks her father "what cautionary tale can young women take from this?" and instead of her dad cursing him out, he said "don't try to be on your own in a big city without family around."

The whole thing was so completely tone deaf. We're always teaching women how not to get harmed or killed. Maybe "don't trust men ever" is a better cautionary tale.

We continue to raise girls to beware of bad men.  Isn't it about time we raised boys to be good men?  Because, there's a disconnect here ...

This is the best quote of the year! I am most definitely raising my son to be a good man. He's only 1, but we have to start early.

Not saying that we shouldn't raise girls to beware of bad men, but we have to start raising our boys better.

THANK YOU!!!

I realize it is a complicated issue, and a problem with no easy solution, but we need to start somewhere ...

I couldn't locate another thread for the series Life or Death, so, I'm putting it here. Apparently, there is a marathon this evening with a new episode at 8:00 p.m.  on National Geographic channel.  It's a good series.  It focuses on death penalty cases. It's hard to watch, but, quite touching.  It's unreal how in the world some of these killers brutally murder with apparently no remorse.

Anyone catch the second episode of Home Alone about Erin, her man friend, and her babysitter being trapped in the basement by her ex?  It bothered me on two fronts: first, and most importantly, NO ONE WAS HOME ALONE!!!!!!  There were four people in the house when the ex breaks in.  It goes against the basic premise of the damn show.  Secondly, the ending was abrupt and devoid of good information; so the ex survived and wasn't tried because he had amnesia.  Well, how bad off is he?  Is is just an amnesiac who is wondering the streets, able bodied and able to snap again?  Is he basically bedridden and can't possibly pose a threat to anyone?  I shouldn't have to go a'googling to get a satisfactory conclusion.

  • Love 9

The thing that struck me about that episode was how, in the reenactment, when it showed the guy breaking into the house and starting the alarm, the mom heard the noises from the bedroom, but the young girl laying on the couch in the living room right near where the guy broke in was sleeping through all the noises until the guy forced her awake. Maybe she was a really heavy sleeper?

I missed the explanation at the end as well and no matter how much I google different phrases and keywords, I can't even find out who the episode was about. Any ideas to point me in the right direction?

The criminal's name is Terris Stahl, even though he was called Ryan in the show.  I found this when I did some digging, and it illuminates the amnesia/not standing trial issue.  http://www.illinoiscourts.gov/Opinions/SupremeCourt/2014/115804.pdf

I haven't found any more on the blood trail/GSR issue alluded to in the decision, and now I'm even more curious about that.

I too was so annoyed by them not actually being alone. Next week's episode is about a family of women who get taken hostage. Again--they are not alone. Producers of this show should've found a different name. This now seems to be about murder taking place in a home (which is probably at least 75% of all murders.)

@Lizzing...thanks for digging up the real names.

Or, they could've forgone creating a new show altogether and told these stories on some of their other shows. Not understanding why out 3 episodes, only one has truly fit the description of the title.

Saturday afternoon, especially a stormy one, is a great time to catch up on ID shows that I missed this week.  Right now I'm watching "Dead Silent" the one with Doug and Rozina.

Awful story, but when she got Doug's gun is exactly why I don't own one.  I hate guns and so did Rozina.  She seemed to holding it correctly in the reenactment and the brother just took it away from her.  I fear I'd point too and not be able to protect myself.  I  truly doubt I could actually pull the trigger, even with a lot of training and target practice.  I don't like camping either.

Same. Having a gun clearly did nothing to protect either of them in the end. Very tragic story indeed. Just so random and scary.

Speaking of that show, they replayed that one last night with the guy who went crazy while living in that small town in Idaho. That story is so freaking creepy and weird.

I've been doing a bit of catching up on ID shows today, too, 'cause it's cool and rainy here as well. Saw the "1980s" one-I remember that case on another series, too. And I caught the "Unusual Suspects" one from this past week, with the woman murdered in her new home, and good lord, what a bizarre crime scene that was.
