But baseball is supposed to be pure and NASCAR has had ads for nearly its entire existence.  I don’t like the NBA crap either.

A combined no-hitter is not a thing and neither would be a combined perfecto.

My mother always said if you don’t have anything nice to say, to not say anything, so I will just acknowledge that Apple TV+ is airing a baseball game and leave it at that.

I'm not that old but I remember when every game was on free tv. I pay enough for cable so I'm not going to subscribe to streaming services to watch sports.

@ebk57 I know it can feel that way when they're in a slump, but that's not going to last. They're too good a team. They're at least getting a wild card and I'd bet that when the Orioles come into Yankee Stadium the week after next, that three-game series may still decide the division. Look, as a Yankees fan, I don't want to be right about this, but I'm not ready to write off the Orioles as possible division champs just yet.

I don't remember who it was on this forum who mentioned it back in April, but I'd very much like to thank the person who told us about the separate audio feed for the local team's radio broadcast. I was much happier listening to Suzyn Waldman than I was to the AppleTV people.

I did go back to the AppleTV feed when I saw Aaron Judge being interviewed by their on-field reporter. I was sorry I did. Her questions were cringe-worthy. Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network is so good at what she does, it spoils us as Yankees' fans.

I had no idea there was a Paw Patrol curse until the guy on Apple said it, and I still have no idea what that is.  Like I know Aaron did an animated dog show, but I have no idea what that has to do with a (16 game, they hammered that home) homerless streak.

My hubby did wonder why the Red Sox didn’t just walk him and give up one run, rather than pitch to him and risk giving up four.

That reminds me of a game against the Oakland A’s in 1999, when Bernie Williams trotted to first base, thinking he’d walked with the bases loaded, but it was only ball 3.(The look on Scott Brosius’s face was like “Bernie, what are you doing?”)

The next pitch?  Grand slam.

The whole Yankee bench lost it, Bernie laughed his way around the bases, and Tim McCarver said “The A’s should have taken the walk, it’s only one run!”

Ok, lemme think…

Mets - OMG cutout

Angels - light-up halo

Mariners - trident

Orioles - hydration station

Blue Jays - resurrected home run jacket

Padres - Polaroids

Tigers - pizza on a stake

Twins - Prince tribute

Marlins - straw hat they got from the team store

Nationals - president powdered wig

Pirates - pirate cutlass

Rockies - hockey helmet and goggles

Red Sox - home run medal

The rest either don’t have one or I’ve not noticed it.

The Brewers get the win against the Phillies and head inside to celebrate clinching the NL Central (thanks, Oakland) and there's all these non-alcoholic drinks in front of Jackson Chourio's locker  🤣🤣  The kid is only 20 years old.

I didn't think they had a chance for this type of record after trading Burnes, the injuries to Devin Williams and other pitchers, and Yelich missing significant time.  But they keep fighting.  Like I said in my earlier post, they are a fun team to watch.

You don't risk the health of your best offensive player so he can throw a few relief innings each week.  If he's not a starter then the risk isn't worth the reward.  Whether he should he be pitching at all when he's likely the best hitter who isn't named Aaron Judge is a separate discussion.  Yeah, he's getting paid a ton of money, but the publicity he brings in is well worth it regardless of whether he gets to pitch.

Whatever.  The Dodgers are not a team I root for even a little bit so I don’t give a rip about Ohtani or his stupid stats.  Would have been more impressive if he did it in Anaheim before the rules changed and helped the Angels literally do anything of note.

And if you only have to think about hitting and running the bases, and not playing defense, you better be good at it.

Well, bah humbug to you too.  (Just kidding, by the way).

If he had done this in Anaheim then people would have just bitched about how putting up big stats on a crappy team is useless - true greats (hello, Aaron Judge fans) do it for a winning team.  Baseball is a sport where one great player will have the least impact on overall success, otherwise the Giants would have won the WS all the time when Barry Bonds was at his steroid peak.

The best part of this (not that @mojoweenwill care about this either) is the anchor on BBC News-The Context who, in the middle of the report on Ohtani's game last night, said "not that I understand any of this".  And this was after the control booth had shown film of President Zelensky when she started reading the story, so she had to stop and start over again.  I was highly amused.

Meh, I'm okay with the DH.  I was fine with the different rules before the change, but I guess I can respect the argument of not wanting to see pitchers hit.  Though the strategy from the NL was unique to see when it came to batting changes on the spot.

Earlier in the week, Colin Cowherd once again mentioned how much better Ohtani is over Babe Ruth.  This time, he widened the gap, basically saying it's not even close.  IIRC, he did mention it 2 years ago.  No way I agreed with him then!

While I still have to agree to disagree, I might actually respect it somewhat.  It's probably an "In The Moment" comment, and while it's impressive what the guy has done, I'm not labeling him as the GOAT without a title.

At least he'll finally get to play games in October, but it's no longer correct to put Aaron Rodgers, Joe Montana, & Peyton Manning ahead of Tom Brady, and I agree there.  You have to win a title, especially if you're going to rank someone over someone else you were alive to see play the game.
