Be careful what you wish for.. Yesterday it was reported that Aaron Civale requested a trade because he was moved from starter to bullpen. Today the Brewers traded him to the White Sox.

Just found this on Facebook.

Worse, Aaron probably won't be able to come back to Milwaukee and extract vengeance, like Jesse Winker did in the NLWCS after Polar Bear's home run.

When do the Yankees get their alternate uniforms? 🤪

They could just go like the Cardinals and have CCs that are basically simple tweaks of past spring training uniforms.

Which I'm fine with, BTW. At least they aren't hideous. And they fit my own personal logic that the Cardinals don't need to put steamboats or toasted ravioli on their uniforms to connect with the city, because the Cardinals and St. Louis are already deeply embedded within each other.

Some lady at the Brewers Cardinals game I’m sure got her phone blowing up if anyone she knew saw her when the camera was taking crowd shots. Because she was clearly making a blowjob joke at the time. Goes to show, you never know who can see you…

I like, blinked and was all, did I just see what I think I saw? (rewind) Yep!

And then it occurred to me to see if someone on X saw it. Oh yeah…

Tonight, the Red Sox are wearing neon yellow jerseys with "Boston" in stenciled light blue letters across the front, and a "617" patch on the left sleeve. I recognize 617 as Boston's area code. (How unimaginative.) Their caps are light blue. Yellow and light blue? I got the green connection last night, but tonight's unis have me scratching my head. 🤔

Thank you for warning me last night that they were still wearing these or I would have been surprised, in addition to sad, to see them tonight.

That’s what I was talking about when I said Boston retired their blue jersey because they wanted to keep the first set of city connects (they’re the only team with new city connects that kept them, all the other teams retired their first versions).

The teams are only allowed 5 uniform sets. So for Boston, it’s home white, road gray, alternate red, city connect yellow, city connect green.

Does ANYONE from St. Louis call their city “The Lou”? I wouldn’t think so. Too easy to make toilet jokes.

It's honestly a matter of some debate. Some people will swear that no one has ever called it that, but I mean... I call it that? Not sure where I got it, but I definitely didn't make it up on my own.

The Cardinals specifically got it from Nelly's Country Grammar: "I'm from the Lou and I'm proud." They even used Nelly in all the promotional material. Some people will say "the Lou" is only "a young Black thing", but I'm neither young nor Black. So I think it's more wide-spread than those people think it is.

And yeah, I've seen the loo references from fans of other teams online. But I think it's mainly one of those things that proliferates on social media. I doubt many of Americans would make that connection organically.

It kind of reminds me of this old WGBH station ID, but I don’t know if it’s intentional.

Well Happy Fucking Father’s Day.

I blame the husband.  Because even though there are books and pillows and towels and flags and plywood wall hangings and videos of the Yankees in this house, he doesn’t actually like them.  He manifested this.

The Mets’ weekend isn’t much better. Tampa Bay is about to sweep them at home, and they’re heading to Atlanta. Bad things usually happen there. I know the Braves are stuck in the second division, but I can’t count them out.

I hear ya, mojo.  I was married to a Mets fan,

(I can’t believe he’s been gone twenty years now.)

This trade is insane. Allegedly Devers wasn't even shopped around the league

Boston is not really out of contention only a half game out a wild card spot and they just took 5 of 6 from the Yankees . Jordan Hicks has a 6.47 era .

The Phillies swept the Blue jays today but the jays left fielder made a amazing catch and hit the wall so hard he left an eye black mark on the wall

I love the yellow jerseys they were a symbol of recovery from the Marathon bombing.

Somehow they have an ungodly good winning percentage when wearing the IKEA employee uniforms. 37-16 if the AI summary is to be believed.

On the one hand, Devers and the management were at odds. They have a lot of young position players coming up and competing for playing time, and Devers is only a hitter and not an asset in the field. The taking his salary off the books could result in a more balanced theam.

On the other hand, no one has anything good to say about the players they acquired for Devers, so what the actual fuck? We couldn't get a decent set up man or actual prospect or something?

Boston wasn't getting to the World Series this year. This move sets them up well for next year onwards.

There's plenty of good to be said about them - check out Giants forums. There's one flier, but two pitchers are still quite young and can work things out, and Tibbs is tearing it up in the minors and should get to the majors next year. But also the Red Sox unloaded Devers's entire contract which gives them a lot of flexibility for other players. It's been reported that other teams are surprised Boston was able to get much talent back in the trade given that.

Now they can give Bregman whatever he wants.

I say it’s win-win. Giants finally got that longed-for big bat super star that has eluded them for years. Red Sox got rid of an albatross contract and a disgruntled player.

By the way, I bet Netflix is kicking themselves that they didn’t do all the filming for their documentary THIS year instead of last year.

The previous front office regime did it. I’m guessing that the current regime found it not worth it, considering that it hindered them on signing other, more flexible free agents. And if you’re gonna pay someone 300+ million dollars, shouldn’t he be a bit more amenable? Every single other player I’ve ever seen that got their big paycheck was very flexible about where and when to play. But Devers dug in his heels and mouthed off to the press every chance he got.

If Devers thinks he’s getting to play 3B in San Francisco, he’s greatly mistaken, as that’s the team with the one of the OTHER great gold glovers in the position. And also has a big void at 1B. He’s basically in the same boat.

Ok so I don’t work in a baseball front office so there are nuances that I will never get, but if Devers’s contract was so shit, why did they give it to him?

They had to sign Devers because the fans were upset about trading Mookie Betts. I don't understand the local media. Earlier this season they were mad because Devers was overweight and wasn't hitting now they are mad because the Sox traded him make up your mind.

Giants management hasn't burned bridges with Devers yet, so he'll probably happily play first there is my guess. Or else SF might be happy to leave him at DH.

The Red Sox let Betts and other stars of his generation go, so they signed Devers to an extension so that they could point to somewhere they spent money. And Devers did hit well, so it wasn't money wasted.
