I'm watching solely for Naturi Naughton. I've always liked her.

This show is not as good as Empire, but I'm not really inclined to compare them, mostly because they're trying to do totally different things. Empire is straight-up crowd-pleasing soap opera. It knows what it is, and it's ok with that (as am I!)

Power, OTOH, seeks desperately to be Very Important Television. Like so many cable shows, it thinks graphic nudity and violence + swearing = gravitas. *smh*

Of course, that means that the laughs I get from this show are strictly unintentional, and so enjoyable in their own way.

I am curious to see what happens

when Ghost/Jamie finds out Angie is a US Attorney.

The only things Empire and Power have in common...

Urban setting

Predominately cast with POC.

Otherwise from my POV, they're nothing alike

Sikora's comment, reminds of a pet peeve I have with Empire.

Why not film in NYC, like Power actually does?

There was some mention about additional tax credit breaks for filmmakers in Chicago, I believe.  We had something similar in Miami for the past 5-7 years, where everything was being filmed down here because it was cheaper.  That ended last year, I believe, and now most of the smaller companies that filmed down here have moved to other places like Atlanta where the incentives are better.

I guess this is the best place to put this information.  Soooo....Power is filming as I type this literally up the street at a Bronx Courthouse (I work at a different courthouse).  They're filming episode 1 for next season.  Han from F&F was there.  He's playing an attorney...can't tell which side for sure but if I had to guess I'd say he's a Fed.

Charlie Murphy was also filming.  He looks to be a Marshall or some kind of law enforcement person.

I got a picture with Proctor.  But I saw pretty much all the major players: Tasha and Ghost (in an orange jumpsuit), Mike, Angela, Saxe, and the judge.   Everyone was kept in the hallway while they filmed in the actual courtroom so I couldn't hear any dialogue.  But the crew was really cool with us taking pics (as long as we were discrete about it).

One major thing about all these actors is that they are a lot shorter than I thought. Especially Omari.... and Naturi may as well be a little person.  She is shhoorrttt.

You can tell Omari is short. (I love tall men - I'm tall myself - and am generally turned off by short men, but he could still get it.) And I don't think Naturi has appeared on the show in anything shorter than 4" heels and she STILL looks short, so ... yeah.

Very cool sighting!

Lol. No me and the coworker I went with (me and her talked about Power every Monday morning....she's my roadie) was shocked at how small Omari was. I assumed since he used to play football he would be a lot bigger. It's amazing the amount of size the camera adds, IMO.  So much so we started thinking about the girl who played Precious  (I think she's on Empire now)...like that chick might not be as big as it seems. Anyway.  Dude is just small all around.  A different coworker said she was kind of disappointed by that revelation.  She had it in her head Omari was some 6'5 Adonis. I'm not naw girl he's more like 5'6.?

But yeah, it was super cool seeing everybody.  By the time we got there (around lunchtime) there were just barely a few stragglers.  A crew guy said it was madness earlier that morning. So many people taking pics and video, etc.

She is on Empire, and I also think she's lost some weight. She's still big but not as big as she was in Precious.

I've had a bunch of celebrity sightings and they were all either thinner, shorter, or both, than they appeared on TV. (I think the only exception was Liev Schriber. I stood next to him on the subway once and he's tall.) People who are "tv chubby" are, like, size medium in real life - the camera really does add ten pounds. Omari is so muscular and broad-shouldered, James/Ghost carries himself confidently, and they dress him beautifully (those coats!) so he seems like he'd be tall, but you can tell he's short. And like you said, Naturi is tiny and he's not that much taller than she is. Tommy looks like he might be at least average sized, and Angela looks like she's average height and very thin. 50 Cent looks short too.

Lol...see thats the thing that threw me...Omari just looks small all around.  Not just his height, but he doesn't look as muscular and broad in person either. Now maybe the baggy jumpsuit has something to do with it.  But I just wasn't impressed at all.  But yes, his wardrobe on the show is fire??. He can wear the hell out of a suit.

Angela and Saxe are the only ones who look like what I expected in real life.  My coworker said Charlie Murphy looks kinda sick....like he's really thin.  I dont follow him like that so I just took her word for it.

On the show Tommy seems to be around the same height as Ghost so yeah I'm sure Joseph is probably short too?.  50 cent would be a surprise because I always view him as this big gorilla (pun intended).

Speaking of 50....was Power his idea or was it Courtney's and 50 just signed on early?

Brandon Victor Dixon (aka Ghost's lawyer & Tasha's lover, Terry) really did steal the show in NBC's "Jesus Christ Superstar Live" concert. He was hands down my favorite part of it. Since I haven't seen "Hamilton," I had no idea what a big stage star Dixon is. Anyway, if you get a chance, see the JCS concert on demand or on Hulu. It's fantastic.

This seems to be becoming an annual thing at The Root:

Power Is Finally Back. I Can't Wait For Every Character to Die

I have to say, the writer makes a pretty good case for all the major characters to give up the ghost (I'm not ashamed) at least by the end of series. Some sooner than others. The comments on the article are pretty good too.

Oh man.  I literally replied to someone's instagram post (a person who just started watching season 1 and asked if it was good) that the only reason I continue to watch is because I'm waiting for people to die.  And all the eye candy......

This paragraph

Quote

Like, after every.single.episode, I get upset that Angela is still alive. She should have been dead seasons ago. And Tariq ... oh, Tariq. If there was a spinoff of Power called Killing Angela and Tariq that was an Inside the Actor’s Studio-type show, where different writers and industry insiders talk about how they would have had them both killed, I’d watch it religiously. That’s how in I am for either of them dying.

and this

Quote

But when Holly (spoiler alert) caught that L by his hands, well, I started to like him because Holly had to go and I was glad somebody took her out.

both spoke to my soul.  Actually, I was nodding to everything he said.  Most of these people gots to go!

The main crew (with Lala but without Dre) was on Strahan and Sara today (don't mock me) and 50 announced the show will be back August 25 for the LAST SEASON but there will be 15 episodes. And Lela Loren shared a funny story about passing gas during a sex scene at around 3:15.

https://youtu.be/glDyv4YBGAk

Six seasons is a good run. At least they get opprotunity to wrap up properly.

Spinoffs? Please don't let one of them be about Tariq!
