ElectricBoogaloo September 29, 2014 Share September 29, 2014 As CIA Chief of Station in Kabul, Carrie makes a critical decision when her counterpart in Islamabad delivers urgent intelligence on a high value target. Back in the States, Saul struggles to adjust to his new role in the private sector. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/

ElectricBoogaloo October 6, 2014 Author Share October 6, 2014 I'm curious as to who Sandy was going to meet. Obviously it was someone shady since he was sneaking around to go see whoever it was. I wonder if that's who leaked his picture and identity to the news. Poor Aayan. Rahim had no right to take his video and have his cousin post it. I bet he's the kind of roommate who eats your carefully labeled stuff in the refrigerator too. Boundaries, people! In all seriousness, this poor kid just lost his family and now his video is all over the internet. He just wants to grieve in peace and his roommate won't respect his privacy. ElectricBoogaloo October 6, 2014 Author Share October 6, 2014 I'm willing to concede that what happened is not a private matter, but the video was made by Aayan of his own family on his phone. That makes it HIS video. He specifically said that he did not want it put online. Not wanting video or pictures of your dead family all over the internet is understandable, especially when he was talking about not wanting HIS video on the internet. In addition, his face was in the video so not wanting his face to be all over the internet was also understandable. Stealing someone else's video to post it online after they very specifically say they do not want that is a dick move. 11 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-440848
LotusFlower October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 Yes, of course it was his video, and there's no doubt his friend violated his privacy. It's an awful situation. But the video was part of a huge geo-political matter, so, y'know - the greater good and all. And then, of course, I watched the 2nd episode, which I'll say no more in case you haven't seen it yet... 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-440886
Big Bad Wolf October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 I was relieved that they went the less obvious route and made the nephew a pacifist rather than automatically turned into a potential suicide bomber because of what happened to his family. Much more interesting. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-440915
Trois October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 I was relieved that they went the less obvious route and made the nephew a pacifist rather than automatically turned into a potential suicide bomber because of what happened to his family. Much more interesting. Yeah, I was kind of expecting him turning into this season's villain. But was his reaction credible? (I don't think so.) Anyway, I enjoyed the atmosphere in today's episode. There was the moment when I realized that I really missed this show. And not because of the story! It's the tune and sentiment of this shows which deals with current issues. Best Scene: The bathroom-scene at the end. It came from nowhere, so unpected and yet it fitted. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-441051
Latverian Diplomat October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 Yeah, I was kind of expecting him turning into this season's villain. But was his reaction credible? (I don't think so.) . Well, Homeland being Homeland he has an ulterior motive for his stance . But even without that, I didn't find his reaction out of the realm of possibility. Not the most likely, but not impossible. And the thing that really rang true was having the friend who was less directly impacted by the tragedy be far more jazzed about politicizing it. I think that's very common. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-441999
ZulaMay October 6, 2014 Share October 6, 2014 I thought the friend was a dick too. Uploading the video didn't put HIM at risk...it put Aayan at risk. I can get him trying to persuade him to do it, but not basically calling him a traitor to his people and then going behind his back. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-442903

eyetotelescope October 7, 2014 Share October 7, 2014 Just as I was getting bored, they sucked me back in with the storyline about the Islamabad station chief. Welcome back, Homeland! I do admit to missing Damian Lewis though. He had such a presence on this show. Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-443513
scrb October 7, 2014 Share October 7, 2014 So the CIA was got played by ISI is apparently the season long plot and Carrie is going to hunt that down. I would imagine since Pakistan is still officially an ally, Washington wouldn't allow the CIA to run operations against the ISI. But that's okay, Carrie is going to assemble her own team of mostly caucasians working covertly in Pakistan. Okay. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-443912

Mozelle October 7, 2014 Share October 7, 2014 What a colossal waste of Corey Stoll. I know! I was so excited about him being on this season, and he didn't even make it past the first episode! Can Corey Stoll catch a break?! I'm just now getting to the episode. I'm currently watching episode two, but episode one was a great set up for what's to happen this season. Or as best as it can be a set up given how the show runners tend to have layers upon layers with this show. ElectricBoogaloo October 7, 2014 Author Share October 7, 2014 I had the same hat thought too. If I were in a country where I looked very different from the locals, I would have kept a smushy hat stashed in my jacket so I could blend in a little better. Plus it is so sunny there that if I were bald(ing), I would want to keep from burning the top of my head. But the show he stars in got renewed, so I guess not.I thought the friend was a dick too. Uploading the video didn't put HIM at risk...it put Aayan at risk. He's now a bigger target than Corey Stoll's character, Sandy. Sheesh. No wonder there aren't any decent doctors on the planet anymore. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/15794-s04e01-the-drone-queen/#findComment-450593

That's why polio is still circulating there. Unfortunately, the fact that hunt for bin Laden did use a vaccination program as cover made this problem even worse. John Potts October 14, 2014 Share October 14, 2014 (edited) Was I the only one going "The terror boss deliberately leaked the info so he could get the USA to commit an atrocity while everyone thinks he's dead". My unspoilt guess is that's going to be the Big! Shocking! Twist! for (say) episode 5, though quite why the CIA are so sure he's dead is beyond me (I can see why they want to trumpet it as a big success by "getting their man" but in private they should be all "yeah... we hope so, anyway"). And would the CIA agent really walk around Islamabad(?) so completely overt? I was reminded of Live aned Let Die when Bond's contact (possibly Felix Leiter) goes "Great disguise you've got there - the only white face in Harlem!" Dude, maybe if you'd worn a headscarf to cover up your bald, white head the crowds wouldn't have spotted you so quickly! ZulaMay I thought the friend was a dick too. Uploading the video didn't put HIM at risk...it put Aayan at risk. ITA. Aside from whole "Maybe I don't want the deaths of my family to be used as a recruiting tool for al-Quaeda," it probably puts Aayan in the CIA's "To Watch" list. I'm sure the CIA can work out who sent it, no matter what encryption he used. Wanting to get "The Truth" out there is fine, but it's rather less noble to endanger others rather than yourself (I will love it if it comes back to bite Rahim and not Aayan because it would serve him right). Superpole2000 November 16, 2014 Share November 16, 2014 Intermittent parts of boredom mixed with a depressing plot to make this a tough watch. The vehicle mob scene and overall setting were well done, though. I am going to need something special to resume my emotional investment in this show.
