S3.E11: The Shots You Don’t Take

Recommended Posts

(edited)

Wihan du Toit is growing messy with many people on board. In response, Johnny Arvanitis angrily lashes out at Wihan, causing fear in the girl’s cabin next door. As he needs clarification, Captain Jason has no choice but to launch this investigation to sort out who needs to get sent home early on BDDU. Lara fills Captain Jason in on how Wihan also messed with Harry. Captain Jason heads off to interview Harry and then Tzarina Mace-Ralph, who equally blame Wihan, not Johnny. Wihan enters the galley, blaming everyone but himself, as Johnny reboards  (he was sent to a hotel for the night) to chat with Captain Jason.

First aired on 4/14/2025.

Johnny was fired (he said he would leave anyway), but at least he realized he lost his temper, and he didn't want to act like this again.

Wihan, on the other hand denied any wrongdoing (all the crew in Captain Jason's investigation considered him a problem), and he didn't take any accountability. I was glad he was fired.

Lara said that everybody was going to miss Johnny, a lot (but not Wihan, of course!).

The new bosun, and deckhand seem to have a positive attitude, but Nicholas, the deckhand managed to sabotage himself already.

I liked seeing the turtles (again).

Lara is still refusing having Marina in service, even after Captain Jason asked her to include her!

Adair was not upset (it was obvious in her confessional) Wihan left. She won't have to date him for a storyline.

Mob wife theme again? It was done already in the RH of Salt Lake City.

Now that Wihan is gone I want Lara gone next. Unfortunately, I don't think she will be, as she has already appeared on WWHL. But she's really pissing me off. I get that she doesn't want to rock the boat by putting Marina in service but she shouldn't have told her at the beginning she would have that opportunity. And now her excuse is that everyone is still "reeling" over the loss of two crew members and the arrival of two new crew members.

Uh, Lara? How exactly does that affect you? They are both deck crew. Nothing has changed on the interior side. Now you're just making up excuses. I'm starting to think something else is going on here.

Also she keeps interfering with Tzarina's work. If she doesn't like the plates Tzarina is planning to use then maybe she should have discussed plating beforehand. She may not be as bad as Wihan at her job but that's not saying much.

This episode really made a point of showing poor Nick stumbling at every step to show how green he is. The previews for the rest of the season only included him in one scene being told by Jason that he'd left him with no choice, suggesting he's going to be fired on Day 2. But I suspect it's a misdirect. Hard to believe they'd fire him after one day when it's supposed to be so hard to replace crew on such short notice.

Looks like Alisia is going to get over Johnny pretty quickly.

Sorry to see Johnny go.

Wihan, not at all.  It's never his fault.  I guess Harry will hang in there.

Fast on the newbies.  We'll see how it plays out.  They seem OK so far.  Got the women fired up.

Lara honey, don't dis the captain.  Do what you're told.  She's really become quite a pill.  Leave Tsarina and her plates alone.

Nic seems a bit clumsy.

Did Jason tell him about the No Drinking rule?

Nic was put in a tough spot.  Less than 12 hours on the job and a guest shoves a glass in his hand and says "Drink!".  Tough to say no.  I hope Jason gives him another chance.

Awesome turtles!

Mob wives?  Really?  Is that a thing?  Production driven?  I don't watch RH, so no clue.

Alesa is going to hook up with the new bosun according to the rest of the season previews shown tonight. It's a shame Johnny lost his job because of her.

Indeed!

There firings seem to be for cause, not concocted for a TV show.

Yet they happened to have 2 replacements ready to go next day.  What are the odds they have people who can take over on a TV show so quickly?

Maybe the Seychelles is a hotbed of luxury yachting industry, so plenty of able crew around.

Or maybe production had these guys stashed nearby the whole time.

But why would they bring two people all the way to the Seychelles, ready to replace cast members?  Because they either anticipated firings or planned for them.

Remember this is not a typical yacht charter operation but a TV show so it’s not a about staffing decisions so much as casting decisions.

Also remember that Wihan apparently didn’t have experience working on board yachts so much as selling or leasing them.  So how real was his job performance?

How real was his behavior?  Did being on camera make him act or do things he normally wouldn’t do?  Did producers encourage him to behave in certain ways?

Anyways he got a lot of screen time in these first 10 episodes so they milked a lot of drama out of his antics.

I really hated to see him go. But Johnny lost his job because of Johnny. He seems like a good guy and quite redeemable, though. I hope he gets over what’s her face quickly. He’s already better off.

Now that Wihan is gone, looks like they are making Lara the villain. She really thinks that she is a great Chief Stew but she isn't. She's always worried that she'll rock the boat if she switches up her stews' roles but it is her responsibility to train them if she thinks Bri is lacking in housekeeping or have Marina do the training. Lara is just a lazy Chief Stew. I'm glad she's not coming back next Season. Nate is doing a good job so far and I feel bad that they are making Nick seem so clueless. Poor guy, he means well.

I thought Johnny could have been written up but not necessarily fired.  His temper was bad but they’d all been drinking and Tzarina was stirring up shit for the deck crew. Then Alesia hops into Wuhan’s bunk and it was too much for him.  It’s a shame he had to go.
They show Tzarina complaining about Wihan to the captain when you know she would jump at the chance to be in his bunk if he would have had her.
It was great to see Wihan fired.
Looks like they brought on a hard working bosun and another goofball deckhand.
I knew Lara wasn’t going to use Marina for service. Like I said a few weeks ago, she wants Bri, her bestie to be with her and to basically banish the one she doesn’t think fits in with them.  She even compared Marina to Jan Brady. Now Tzarina is upset that teaming up with the mean girl against Wihan didn’t mean shit to Lara.

It is a shame. He was a good worker. Honestly, Jason could have let Alesia go for climbing into Wihan’s bunk. He went too easy on her. I’m not so sure it was an honest mistake. Now all she’s doing is standing around texting.

Alesa's not the reason Johnny was asked to leave, he is. He frightening lost his temper punching a cabinet & scaring many of the crew. His reaction is all on him.

That said, I do wish Jason might've taken into account how immediately contrite he was & given him a warning.

Also not going to shame Alesa for having interest in the new bosun. She'd met Johnny what, a week ago? They're not married.

Tzarina is like a bottomless pit of need or validation. I get secondary embarrassment just watching her.

He might be contrite but what if it happens again and they are in the middle of the ocean? There would be no where to separate him from everyone else. This time they were lucky and he could be sent to a hotel to cool off.

Yeah, anyone who gets that mad is not someone you want around. It's a red flag they can turn violent on a dime. Johnny even admitted he didn't think he was that way "anymore." So he's got a problem with his temper and he knows it.

I think he would have been fine with a second chance. His anger was directed at Wihan although Alesia set things in motion climbing into his bed. Most men would be upset to find their love interest in their bosses bed.

She is so very needy. The way she throws herself at every man on the boat is disgraceful. She even made a remark toward Jason. I don’t see him being interested in a subordinate. I won’t be surprised if she starts humping Harry should he stand still long enough in front of her.

Yeah, Tzarina is way too old to still act like the pathetic wannabe to Lara's Queen Bee. Tzarina: Lara is not your friend. She thinks you're weird, and I'm sorry you never got to be in the popular crowd in school, but that's the way it is. The more you try to make Lara your friend/like you, the less respect she'll have for you. Lara could stand to get over the Queen Bee behavior too. She's still acting like she's in high school. I did agree with her, though, about the plates at dinner service. Tzarina claimed that mob wives was her favorite theme, but then she seems to know nothing about it. She was thinking Russian mob, which I get, but the mob wives show were all Italian. She had to have known that those turquoise plates would clash with dinner. Those looked like lunchtime plates. Too casual looking for a formal dinner. But, if she felt that strongly, then just tell Lara to stay in her lane and serve the food on the plates you decide to use.

Tzarina says she hates plain white plates...interesting since white plates show off food really well, a chef does not like white plates?

That's what I was thinking! Almost all restaurants use white plates for this very reason. Maybe she meant she was tired of white plates? I can see that. But, like I said, use the blue plates for lunch. Or, get fancy blue/black/whatever color for formal dinners.

I started out this season giving Johnny side eye. Episode after episode he grew on me. While I believe he had to go, it still made me sad. I think he handled his firing well and his outlook on life will get him through.

My sadness turned to glee when Jason. ACTUALLY FIRED WIHAN!!!!

Put Marina on service. Dang it! Lara is a pill.

All season, I've thought that Harry has a Chris Noth vive, Adair has an Uma Thurmon vibe and now newbie Nick has a Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians hot boyfriend) vibe. Am I wrong?

Adair's confessional made me laugh out loud. She is very clear-eyed when it comes to Wihan's behavior as she, matter of factly, rattled off all his flaws, and lack of accountability.

Lara was behaving in a persnickety manner, especially when she was trying to tell Chef that mob wives are only in Italy. I guess she's not heard of the Russian mob...?

Yes, the turquoise plates were not formal enough for dinner, when she and Lara said the Mob Wife theme is all about furs, and gold jewelry.

I couldn't believe the way Tzarina squealed when Jason said the guests were requesting a mob wives themed dinner. She said that was her favorite theme. Uh, does she do a lot of those?

For what it's worth, at least Johnny owned up to his bad behavior and admitted he was wrong. Wahin will go to his grave believing he never did anything wrong.

The chef is above the chief stewardess. Lara needs to work on her own department.

I don't think it's a matter of hierarchy. It seems more about timing. By the time Lara asked what plates she was using, the food was already ready to be plated. If Lara had already laid out white plates at the table she should have told Tzarina beforehand. We've seen chief stews and chefs discuss what plates to use in the planning stages before.

Bottom line, I just don't think Lara is very good at her job. I don't think there's been as much emphasis on that because the show was so focused on Wihan and how awful he was. But the truth is, Lara isn't much better.
