S08.E15: Lab Rats

I didn't see Bobby's death coming at all. I don't like it. He and Athena were my favorite couple.

I'm glad Ravi didn't die.

Before this episode I assumed it would be Daniel after Maddie's dead brother. But now it's probably Bobby.

I don't know if I'll be back for next season. I've been thinking about quitting the show all this season. It's just not fun anymore. The writers don't seem to come up any good storylines for any of the characters except for Bobby and Athena building a house. Maddie in trouble again. I was interested when Buck started dating Tommy. Then it fizzled out and his story has been all about Eddie. I haven't liked Eddie's storylines since he switch from a fireman to work at 911 because he thought Christopher wanted it and needed one parent not in danger all the time. I don't even remember what Hen's storyline was or was it just finally getting the councilwoman? Has she had anything since then?

I watch the show in reruns and it was so much fun. Crazy rescues, crazy storylines and fun ones like Ocean 911. Touching ones like the One that Got away or the zoo without power. Lion killer getting killed by a lion.

I really hope this is all a hallucination or a fake out but I’m not holding out hope. Even then, the whole thing would still feel too cheap. I haven’t liked the direction of 8b so far to begin with and this doesn’t help.

I don't remember if it was last season or the season before when I posted:

RIP Robert Wade Nash, Sr.

and that turned out to be a fake out.

The whole time they were running around trying to find Moira and the Magic Medicine, I was thinking "maybe they could use Polly's antibodies to the virus to come up with a treatment for Chimney."

Chimney took Polly home with him, so maybe there still is a Hail Mary for Bobby?

I was very surprised they killed Bobby off, especially with the series so close to the end anyway. I like all the characters, but I admit Buck and Eddie, and Athena and Bobby, were the main things I watched for, so it sucks having one half of the show's draw get neutralized. I had just assumed the actor wanted to leave, why else would they kill that character? The only thing I could think they could do with that is (assuming next season is the last) having Buck try to fill Bobby's shoes and eventually become captain at the end since Bobby was a father figure to him.

This episode is still sitting on my PVR, unwatched. I'm not sure I ever will.

And not even a thread for yesterday's episode yet? Presumably the funeral?  I really, really think TPTB blew it with this move.

I think the ep is tonight.  Which is kinda funny because when I checked last week and didn't see an ep thread then I had a similar thought to you.

I feel like I want to read about the ep on here before deciding whether to watch... Or at least having it on the DVR so I can skip over the extra painful parts. And I only started watching this about a year ago (caught up on past eps)--can't imagine what it would feel like for those watching from the beginning. Well, I can thinking of shows I watched that long with major character deaths (see: ER, Grey's, and, well, Six Feet Under).

I thought  this episode  tonight, was so well done. I started crying  when I saw Chimneys  tears, and I haven't  stopped

I loved seeing  them all in uniform,  the way the camera seemed  like it was with them for every step of the way, from the sorrow to the anger, then honoring  Bobby Nash.

I admire real firefighters,  they run in, when we run out. This show did them all justice.

Rip, Captain  Nash.

I was totally unspoiled and unprepared for what happened in this episode.  IMO, this was a huge miscalculation by the show runner.  Killing Maddie, Ravi or Buck could have caused good drama for this viewer but, Bobby was integral to this show.  For instance, when he was not captain of the 118 and worked for the "show"  it was mildly entertaining, in a smalzy "hollywoodish" way and the other meanie who was captain created drama the for team, but it was flat.   Although I like JLH, Maddie has worn me out.  Just let her be happy and do a great job at her 911 phone.  Having whole seasons devoted to her "troubles" has sort of soured me on the character.  I miss Eddie and Christopher.  Now that Eddie finally stood up to his parents and got HIS son back, it's time for him to come back to LA.  But the point is moot for me now.  After the end of the season I am as gone as Bobby.  His death killed the show for me.

I rewatched this episode today. There's so much I missed.

At the beginning Maddie tells Bobby what the symptoms of hemmoraghic fever are. That's how Bobby will know he's infected when he says "I started feeling it hours ago."

Then there's the moment when we see that Bobby sees his breathing apparatus has broken. It's about 13 minutes in. From that moment on everything he did was his way of saying goodbye.

Watching Athena hand the cure off to Bobby...

Athena: "I'm here to make a deposit!"
Bobby: "You are a remarkable woman!"
Athena: "I love you too. Now go save Chimney!"

Bobby: "I don't want to go. If I could choose, I would stay with you. Always."

He told her what he needed her to know.
